It is 2020 and Alex has made his home in Ashton Lovelock, a New Town in the Midlands, which a decade or so later becomes home to Betty and her fellow Green activists. Despite the many attractions of Ashton Lovelock, Alex is compelled to follow the demands of  his career and settle in Rickmansworth in North West London where he meets Gabrielle and discovers the joys of agriculture and polyamatory sex. Alex is never satisfied and soon becomes involved with Diane who, long after her relationship with Alex, discovers a deep and committed love for the Church of England, for Charity and for Other Women.
