I let my mind wonder as i walked home from school, luckily the school was only a few blocks from my house. The library is in between and most days I stop in and read for a few hours before heading home. This day was no different. I walked throught the front door and said hello to Ms. Morrison. She just looked up with that 'Be quiet Thomas' look, which got a grin out of me.
I headed to the fiction section browesing over book after book untill one caught my eye, not because of fancy colors or shiny binding, but because the lack there of, you see this library is new as of last year. and for what ever reason they decided to not get any 'old' looking books. I gently pulled it down from the shelf along with some random sci-fi or fantasy books and headed over to a chair. The dragon book was the standard 'Boy finds egg, boy hatches egg into dragon, boy raises dragon, boy rides dragon, boy kills bad guys from ontop of dragon, boy becomes hero in the memory of all as he flies into the sunset.' At least that's what it looked like from the back of the book, I started the pile to check out. The next book turned out to be incorrectly labeled as fantaisy, it was in fact romance, this sent it right onto the not checking out pile. And now the book that cought my eye, it was entitled 'The Five Rings'. I opened the front cover, then the back looking for any type of summary that the book might have. But there wasn't one, so I opened to chapter one, and found that the book was hand written. At this point I realized that this was a really old book, or just some kids prank, but at this point I knew I had to have this book. I sliped it into my backback. I was lucky that I lived in such a small town. The library didn't even bother to put up thoes book dector things by the door, and Ms. Morrison had started to trust me as of late.
Reshelfing the badly labled romance I grabed my backback, and the cliche dragon book and headed to check out, where i realized that I had forgoten my library card.
"Um. Ms Morrison, I forgot my library card." I said looking guiltly and raising my hand behind my head.
"Well I just look up your number, but dont make a habit of this, what's your last name?" She asked as she sat down next to the computer typeing in some commands
"Smith"
"Alright you have the book for 4 weeks. Have a good day Thomas."
Walking out of the library, I looked around nervus. This was the first time that I had stolen anything. It was way to easy, well if you didn't count the shakeing of my legs. I quickly got my legs under control and walked home
