This is the story of the life of Julius Crassus, merchant son, gladiator trainee, legionnaire, officer in the Reconnaissance Cohorts and after a life of servitude to the Empire under the Flavian Dynasty now a full citizen of Rome, as told by himself to his scribe. /* No name of the scribe itself is mentioned but it is generally assumed that is was Funnius Plaiatora Cammus */ With the Empire, 15 years after the assassination of our beloved Domitian Flavius, being bigger as ever before, now may be a good time to tell my life to the public. For those who hold an interest in those things, my career as a regular legionnaire started at the siege of Jerusalem, during the reign of Vespasian Flavius, by his son Titus who commanded the massive legions that conquered and destroyed that city in the end. My efforts during that event were noted by Tiberius Julius Alexander who, in the years after this victory, repeatedly send me, as Centurion of one of the newly formed Reconnaissance Legions, all over the Empire to weed out anything that needed weeding out. This could be a small disgruntled local noble who was about to hire some mercenaries, or a village on the outskirt of the Empire that still kept contact with barbarians. The spies who informed Tiberius were quite adept in their tasks and there was no lack of work for all of the Reconnaissance Legions. Despite the current wave of criticism aimed at its mere existence already, it is still my belief that the work of those Legions was, is and will be indispensable to the everlasting glory of the Empire. Before joining the Legions that besieged the rebellious town of Jerusalem, I followed a short training a gladiator in the school of Xandros the Greek. This appeared to be the only escape after a dispute between my father and one of the local magistrates regarding the improper relations between myself and the nubile, but at that time underage, daughter Livia of said magistrate. But more about that later. After a few years of gladiator training under the tutelage of the Greek, a night out in the Rome, too much wine and a legally signed contract saw me marching as a regular legionnaire into the Legion and out to the Eastern Territories. For those who are still interested, I can tell that the majority of my stories will be those of the period in the Reconnaissance Legion. After all, this are the 25 years years of service that earned me the citizenship. ==== Reactions, corrections, praise, criticism, encouragements, etc...: funplaycam@gmail.com
