In the Beginning...
Bible Black (バイブルブラック) is an eroge PC video game developed by ActiveSoft and published on July 14, 2000. Sei Shoujo was the original artist and penned the game's script.
Milky Studio has since adapted the game into several hentai original video animations. The first adaptation, simply titled Bible Black, consisted of six episodes animating numerous scenes from the video game. Since then Milky Studio has released Bible Black: Origins, a prequel set twelve years earlier and Bible Black: New Testament, a sequel set ten years later. The latest adaptation, Bible Black Only, consists of gaiden stories explaining what happened to various characters during the plot of Bible Black.
The Japanese game was republished in 2006 as Bible Black Slim featuring extended scenes, followed by a short sequel named Bible Black Infection in 2008. Neither of which the games original artist/writer Sei Shoujo was involved with as he had left Active Soft by this time.
The game and anime series feature frequent sex and scenes of extreme horror. The main story revolves around a college which is rumored to have been the home of a secret student-run coven, which met a gruesome end on Walpurgis Night 12 years previously.
Taki Minase, a high school student, finds a book of black magic in the isolated storage room of his school. He begins practicing black magic, which has extreme sexual effects that benefit him and his friends, until evil comes forth from the dark craft. Eventually, the origins of the book are revealed, as is the incident on Walpurgis Night twelve years prior, when the evil force was at its strongest. After coming to his senses, Minase struggles to get himself out of the darkness into which he has put himself and his best friend and secret love, Kurumi Imari.
The game has twelve different endings and the storyline often diverges based on choices made by the player, which influence "Neutral" endings, "Evil" endings, and "Bad" endings. However, there is only one outcome regarded by its developers as the "True" ending. Bible Black was published in English in 2006, under the name Bible Black: The Game after Active-soft ceased operations.
Taki Minase (水無瀬 多喜,)
Minase is just your average guy, a mediocre student who wants nothing more than to sleep the day away. That is, until he finds the mysterious book called the 'Bible Black' while investigating rumors of occult activity in his school. Almost overnight, he begins to transform into someone that even he can hardly recognize. Will the power contained inside lead him down the dark paths of evil, or can he overcome the urge to use the book for his own pleasures?
Kurumi Imari (伊万里 胡桃,)
Minase's childhood friend (and de facto girlfriend), Imari is a strong-willed girl who holds a black belt in shrinji kempo and is very tough. She's afraid that if Minase learns her true feelings for him, she will lose him forever. Will she ultimately be betrayed by the man she secretly loves?
Hiroko Takashiro (高城 寛子)
The school art professor. She’s in charge of the art club of which both Minase and Imari are members. She’s very popular among the students for her good looks and personality. A surviving member of the cult that attempted the ceremony 12 years ago, can she prevent a recurrence of those horrible events?
Reika Kitami (北見 麗華)
The mysterious, seductive school doctor is a favorite subject for gossip among the students. She becomes interested in Minase after hearing of his magical abilities. She's connected to the events from 12 years ago, but how could that be?
Kaori Saeki (佐伯 香織)
Minase’s beautiful, but introverted classmate is obsessed with the occult and has established a small coven based on the magic club from 12 years ago. She became interested in Minase after he cast a love spell for Murai. Is she really just an amateur or is she out to gain true power?
Rika Shiraki (白木 里香)
The head of the student council and the 'idol' of the school. Her breath-taking beauty, outgoing personality, and wealth make her popular with all of her classmates. She also has a crush on Minase. Her status makes her an appealing target for Minase's magic.
Jun Amatsuki (天月 純)
A member of Saeki’s occult club.
Maki Kurimoto (栗本 真紀)
A member of Saeki’s occult club.
Miyuki Nonogusa (野々草 美由紀)
A member of the school swim team. She was once in the same class as Minase. The other members of the swim team envy her. Will Minase use his new powers to help her, or will he take advantage of the situation?
Shinobu Kobayashi (小林 忍)
The Captain of the school swim team, her position at an upcoming meet is threatened by Nonogusa. With the help of her lesbian lover, Mikimoto, she looks for a way to force the virginal Nonogusa to quit the team.
Atsumi Mikimoto (美樹本)
A member of the school swim team, she's Kobayashi’s secret lover and faithful sidekick.
Yukiko Minase (水無瀬 由起子)
Minase’s live-in cousin and current guardian, they were raised together as siblings from an early age - He refers to Yukiko as his "big sister". She’s strong-willed, much like Imari, but enjoys tormenting Minase with her sexy body and perverse innuendo. She learned Latin and French in grad school and helps Minase translate the Bible Black.
Mika Ito (伊藤 美香)
Minase’s classmate and one of Saeki’s followers. Something of a hothead, Ito idolizes Saeki and defends her when Minase mocks their interest in the occult. The first victim of Minase's new-found power, she seeks revenge on him after learning the truth.
Ayumi Murai (村井 亜由美)
Minase’s classmate and one of Saeki’s followers. Known for her friendly disposition and naiveté, she has a crush on a boy who is uninterested in her. After Saeki refuses to help, Minase offers to cast a spell causing the boy to fall in love with Murai.
Author's Note: I was stuck in bed for a long time recently and I had nothing better to do than play some old Japanese anime game called Bible Black.
I liked it. I would have liked it more if the story contained some bestiality, but even I don't get everything I want all the time. Hard to believe, I know. That's why I like to write. It's a cheap, easy way for me to get exactly what I want, no strings attached. Except I have to do the work. It's a labor of love and I want to talk about it a little.
First of all, Japanese anime has a style all it's own when it comes to the language. I decided to try and emulate that style for my novel as much as possible, and yet still provide a coherent story that is interesting and easy to read. Some people won't understand the joke, because it is one, believe me. Others, those few who know me, will quickly understand that I'm having fun with the genre and the language, and not hurting anyone in my madness. You can decided for yourself to which of those two groups you belong.
More importantly, I'm not writing a text version of the Bible Black movie. I'm not even writing a version of the game in the sense that I picked a specific ending and am loyal to that path. I'm taking all twelve endings, all of the characters and scenes, and mashing them together to create a new story. Okay? Don't get confused if you notice differences between my story and the source material. I'm corrupting it. I'm evil.
That's probably a clue as to the direction my novel takes.
And lastly, I'm posting this story in small pieces while I write it. I'm making the web pages as I need them. I'm grabbing the graphics out of the game and using Photoshop to make them pretty.
