Chapter 10
Inuyasha wasn’t the only one thinking about that Christmas. While catching up on the scrolls that were sitting on his desk Sesshomarus’ mind wandered back to it as well. It was that day he realized, well not realized really, more like admitting it to himself, that he did indeed love Kagome. It was the head over heels, loose your mind, act the fool in love.
Yes, he had received gifts in the past, lots of them as a matter of fact. As the Western Lord he was deluged with gifts but those kind were to curry favor with him. But that cape she had made for him was the finest gift he had ever been given because she did it because she wanted to, not as a bribe or that had a caveat that went with it. She had just wanted to do something nice for him and expected nothing in return. It astounded him and rendered him speechless for the first time in his life. Just by looking at it he knew it was something that took a great deal of time to make.
When she had asked if he liked it and he didn’t answer he could sense her anxiety growing but he was too awestruck to immediately say anything. Once he found his voice again he assured her that he most certainly did like it.
When Inuyasha had offered him some time alone with her it had taken all the self control he had to not snatch her up and run off. Instead he calmly led her to a small cove with a hot springs in it. After making sure they were in no danger and that they probably wouldn’t be disturbed, he shed his armor and swords then scooped her into his arms and held her tightly to his chest. Running his claws through her silken dresses he nuzzled her with his cheek. “Kagome, that was the most magnificent gift to me. Thank you,” He told her, voice tender.
Relaxing against time, she sighed contentedly and smiled, looking up at him, “I’m glad you like it. I was worried you wouldn’t.”
Kissing her tenderly on the temple he relied, “I will treasure it always my Kagome.” It wasn’t until those last two words ‘my’ slipped out that he realized what he had said. Instantly he decided it didn’t matter because he had meant it. She would be his, no matter the cost. Then he did totally out of character. Sitting down on one of the rocks at the edge of the spring he pulled her into his lap than did something that could only be described as cuddling. No, he wasn’t proficient or even what you could call good at it but she seemed to understand what he was attempting because she smiled, leaning against him. Then, in turn, she slipped her arms around him, sighing contentedly.
Holding that small human woman brought him a pleasure he couldn’t explain. It felt ‘right’ was the only term he could think of to describe it Then and there he vowed to himself again that Kagome would be his mate no matter what. If he had to move both heaven and hell he would do so, she was going to be his.
For many years he had thought Inuyasha a fool for being involved with human women. First there was Kikyo, something that ended in disaster, now there was Kagome. It was Kagome that was showing him the error in that prejudice. There was no demoness he had ever encountered like her.
While sitting there, both he and his beast trying to come up with ways to ensure that she would stay with him when the time came to put it into action.

After a quick check around the camp and tossing some more wood on the fire Inuyasha hopped back into the tree he had chosen to be his bed for the night.
Sitting there he had to suppress a grin and a chuckle when he thought about what was going on with Sesshomaru. He almost felt sorry for him, almost being the operative word in that sentence.
Long before Sesshomaru was in the picture he had noticed something about the little miko that was now the love of his life; she was completely, utterly, and totally oblivious to the reaction of men and the effect she had on them. One would have thought with as many people had tried with her or become infatuated with her she would have noticed. But she remained as clueless as ever. He also doubled that she would ever be able to see it.
At this point he had a better relationship with Sesshomaru and he didn’t want to screw it up. Every time he saw they taiyoukai now there was no fighting or insults just some polite conversation and information exchange. He would see that look when he gazed at Kagome and it made him wanted to laugh his ass off then say told you so.
Another thing that had been good for a deep, hearty laugh was when he tried to order Kagome around like he did everyone else. Yes, she would listen to him if there was danger present but any other time good luck! He would glare at her, she would glare back. He would start ordering her around, she would snarl at him. He would demand, she would dig her heels in. Hell, he growled at her, she growled right back. Inuyasha had to walk away and get out of his half-brothers’ hearing range because he was going to laugh his ass off.
The little miko might be human but even the mightiest demons didn’t intimidate her, as the taiyoukai discovered quickly. She would stand up to them no matter the danger to herself. That led up to him starting to ask not order and explain tings. If you could reason with her chances were that she would do what you wanted.
Although he had been with Kagome longer, much longer, and their relationship fairly was stable, he discovered he was jealous of Sesshomaru. His stoic half brother had a way of dealing with Kagome. He could easily ride out her fits of temper easily then could get her calmed down without much of a problem. Her tears would always throw him into a state of panic, not knowing what to do about them, they didn’t Sesshomaru had a way of soothing her and stopping the waterworks. The switching of emotions at light speed didn’t seem to bother him either. That stoic, emotionless mask of his served him well with the little miko.
Hunching down a bit to get comfortable, Inuyasha sighed. Shutting his eyes he tried to slid into sleep but it didn’t seem to be working.
