Death to Understanding
As you touch the old wall
You can feel the spirits still there
Hear them cry
Feel their pain
This is a place of death
A place that is a grave
Living and breathing
Kept alive by those trapped here
Long abandoned
It no longer is what it used to be
But that pain remains behind
It is trapped within crumbling walls
It was built with hatred
With inhumanity
With prejudice
With pain
Red brick
Barbed wire
Wood
Cement
Walking through it
You can feel
The pain
The torment
So many lives destroyed
The old
The innocent
The young
It is a horrible place
You can feel it all around you
Permeating your spirit
Cold and uncaring
Yet from all that bad
The good has come
To educate
So it never happens again
Those lives are not wasted
They do live on
They teach us
A lesson we can't afford to forget
Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, Dachau, Treblinka.
Those names still affect a horror
Just by speaking them
Knowing what they were
Death camps
Extermination
Torture
So much pain and suffering
So many deaths
All needless
All so cruel
Mans inhumanity to man
Now they are places of learning
Show us what hatred brings
What prejudice can cause
How the past can teach us
So many lost people
So many bad memories
So many evil people
So many people that hate
Remember..
Those that were lost here
Those that suffered
Those lessons that taught..
