Author’s Introduction
This story is set in the Grand Duchy of Upper Danubia. If you don't know
what the Grand Duchy of Upper Danubia is then please go back and read
EC's excellent novels Maragana Girl, the second half of The Freshman,
and The Courier, first since those are the original works that my story
is based on. The characters in my story are original but nearly all the
customs, history, and settings were borrowed from EC's fiction.
Why did I write this story you might ask. I became interested... Ok
obsessed with this fictional country of Danubia that exists in EC's
head. Everything about Danubia seemed connected and real, as though the
place could actually exist. But I wanted to know more about their
customs, their religion, and details like why the Rika Chorna River
didn't go through Rika Chorna. So I started pestering EC with a long
series of questions and comments about Danubia. Encouraged that he
didn't block my e-mail address I submitted an idea for a story set in
his fictional country. In a rare moment of bad judgment EC gave me
permission to write my own story using Upper Danubia as the setting.
The Not so Secret Agent is set in the Eastern Provinces, with most of
the events happening around the city of Rika Chorna. The year is 1992,
which is several years before Kim Lee and company arrive in Danube City.
The main character is Arthur Liggett; a twenty-three year old American
who made an unfortunate career choice and ended up with a lengthy
criminal sentence. Due to the nature of the crime he was involved in
most of the residents of Rika Chorna are understandably suspicious of
him. There might be ways, though, that he could improve his situation
and win over at least some of the people. The story opens eleven months
after his arrest with Arthur trying to explain to his fellow criminals
at the Rika Chorna Socrates Club his side of the story.

Arthur Liggett, the occasionally heroic star of The Not so Secret Agent
is back; starring in a newly declassified adventure that takes place
early in his second year as a Danubian criminal. Experience the
excitement as Arthur performs manual labor in a national park! See his
struggles with disgruntled rangers, needy campers, drunken Frenchmen and
angry horses! Awkward conversations, embarrassing failures and devious
plots unfold as epic mysteries are revealed!
Arthur vs. is not a sequel or a prequel; it's a side adventure that fits
in chronologically between chapters 9 and 10 of The Not so Secret Agent.
And just to be difficult, I wrote this story in reverse, with chapter
one occurring after chapter two and so on.

It should be noted that due to my vain and self-centered nature I
greatly enjoy praise. But not unlike a Danubian criminal, I'll never
change my bad habits unless I'm forced to, so constructive criticism is
