Synopsis: Immortals live among us driven by their need for the psychological life.
Where it came from: [I know, I know. One chapter does not a book make. However, I have the story all plotted out already...I'm just looking
for time to finish it. Trust me...it IS coming...]
A RL event started me thinking about my own mortality -- and how perilous is the thread we call life. I started to think about what it would be like to be immortal; what
would change about me? What would be the differences in my character?
From there, I just had to determine how one would come to be immortal and what would you need to remain there. So, the idea of needing to leech 'life' from others came to
me -- but that had already been done, in one sense, by vampires. What I needed was to be more specific than what a vampire requires. Historically, vampires were attributed
with biting off the noses of their victims (in Roman times) and then to sucking the blood of their victims. This all coincided with what we took as 'the requirements of
life' at the time (the ancient Romans thought life was centered in the nose, because that is where we breathe and the middle ages thought that life was centered in the
blood because without blood, we'd die). I just took it a bit further.
I think this is, by far, my darkest work and one that has/will stretch me as a writer.
