Review:
"Mark" is a flash story, under a thousand words in length, and it serves as an excellent example of what can be accomplished with a minimum of words. Flash writing really is an artform unto itself and if you're unfamiliar with it you may find it frustrating in some ways. The brevity requires certain sacrifices and a sense of restraint not usually found in the erotica genre. But when it works...It is beautiful.
This story, "Mark" by Scheeme is such a story. It opens with an introduction of the characters in BDSM scene which will leave enthusiasts (such as myself) ready to cry for more. It hooked me, right from the start and that's what flash is all about. This story grabs the reader and holds us by the throat until the end and it leaves us breathless and hungry for more.
This is not a stroke story, but it is erotic. It does stir the senses and like a good appetizer "Mark" prepares us for a feast on whatever we would care to follow this with. But I warn you to pick your main course carefully, because this story is excellent and will easily overshadow weaker stories ten times its length.
Technically the writing is superlative. Everything is tight. Very few words are wasted here, and each sentence, unlike in normal fiction, is essential and must be read. The plot is remarkable for its deceptive simplicity, but also for the style with which it's played out.
I give this story my unqualified recommendation. It's on my must read list. It rarely gets any better than this no matter what the length.
