Review:

The Game is standard fare when it comes to mainstream erotica. The plot centers around a contest between the narrator, a high school senior named Jack, and his best buddy Barry, to see which of them can score the most points by having sex with their fellow students. The story is advanced through a number of sex scenes and naturally it's over-the-top escapist fun. There's no apology needed or required. It's pure stroke porn and honest in its presentation. The author isn't selling us anything deep or mystifying here.

The main character, Jack, is written well and fairly consistently. He's confidant and popular and the big stud in his small town high school. He gets some good dialogue as we watch him seducing the various girls he encounters, from Plain Jane band girls to varsity cheerleaders, and so he's our archetypical porn hero. He makes very few missteps and gets what he wants; he's the good guy and he suffers no false modesty, that's for sure. I think I dated his brother once.

Jack's competition is Barry, his friend and rival in their little game. I would have enjoyed seeing a little more of Barry he didn't seem like a very serious threat to Jack, and so I never really doubted the outcome of their game. Other characters were all female, all of them Jack's conquests in one shape or form, and the author did very well with those characters. For the short time they were center stage I enjoyed them and the girls really provided the sparks. Not so much with the sex itself, but with the dialogue leading up to it. That's pretty much my thing. I like teasing and talking before jumping into bed and thankfully The Game gave me plenty of that.

The sex scenes themselves were fair. I don't think they were scorching hot. They were paced rather quickly and it depends on what you like. I like longer scenes of the sort to make me reach for a beach towel. I wasn't emotionally invested in any of the sex, which was disappointing to me, and the reason for that is simply because Jack himself had no emotional strings attached to the girls. That was part of the story, he was having sex for selfish reasons, it was part of the game.

For other readers that may not be an issue. It's down and dirty sex, purely physical and the scenes are quick, following each other in rapid succession. So if variety is what you like, and the physicality of sex, then this is right up your alley. Jack moves quickly from girl to girl, makes no excuses for what he's doing, and the girls seemingly love him for it.

Technically the writing could use some editing, a good proofreader would be very useful for this story. Almost all the things I noticed were grammatical errors and those can be difficult for any author to pick out in his own work. Without wanting to give too much away, as to the underlying main plot and the two characters involved, Jack and one girl in particular, I really would have liked to have seen some additional scenes there. Some additional motivation and emotional content to get us more involved in that aspect of the story. I think the plot had more potential and it felt a little flat to be perfectly honest.

Summary: It's middle of the road pornography. Teenagers having as much sex as often as they can. It's a well travelled road and The Game is a bit above average for the genre. It's not an outstanding piece of fiction, it needs more attention to characters and plot for that, but it does certainly read well enough as erotica to merit a look. If teen sex is your thing, and in particular anal sex, which is one of the driving forces in this story, I suggest that you add The Game to your reading list.
