After the last transcript of Alex's hypnotic recall session was played
in the National Security Conference room, Gorman requested the analysis of
the heads of the bio-science and medical teams on the task force, Dr Perry
and Dr Blumenthal.  Dr Perry went first - " We've all heard by now about
DNA, especially with the prevalence in the news about its use as evidence
in murder trials.  To use a simple analogy, DNA is the software of life, it
programs everything about us, what we'll look like, our intelligence, and
every other quality that makes every living organism in this universe
unique in itself.  In looking at all the medical records of Alex previous
to the abduction, we find that there are numerous traits that are
identical, such as skin,hair, and eye pigmentation, allergies, blood type,
dental patterns and even fingerprints.  As you know from basic biology,
every human embryo starts out female, and only later in pregnancy does the
penis form on the fetus, and that most basic outward characteristics in
male and female children are basically the same until puberty, when genetic
and chromasomal programs in the body induce all the obvious changes.  If
you were to inhibit testerone production in a male child before puberty,
the child would lack the genetic instructions which would develop adult
male characteristics, and would develop as an adult female by default.  The
inverse would not happen to a female child.  It appears in Alex's case that
after removing the penis, all the body's design instructions were removed,
kept on artificial life support, and had any Y chromosomes and other male
traits in the DNA removed, then returned in a default, which would be
female, condition.  When the aliens instructed their medical computers to
return the DNA to the body, all the traits were returned and restore the
body to a functioning condition, it was with all the genetics that were
inherited, but minus the Y chomosomes which would instruct the body to
become male."

   Dr Blumenthal theorized on the medical procedures used.  "When Alex
recalled the braces and the body suit, I believe that the aliens used this
to keep the body in a basic form due to the softening of the skeleton. 
Remember, they had tested this by pulling the toe backwards, to check for
rigidity.  It would appear that most of the calcium in the bones was
removed in some way to do this.  When the calcium was returned, it was put
in a matrix which the DNA instructed it to, giving the body a wider hip and
pelvic region, smaller hands and feet, no adam's apple, smaller facial
features, and a loss of about 2 inches in height.  All the muscles and
tendons were rerouted and resized of course to match the new bone
structure, and the body fat was redistributed.  We also believe that the
aliens developed a method to speed up the process, being that Alex's hair
had grown more than 16 inches in 2 months.  What was amazing was the
ability to grow the necessary organ, the uterus and ovaries, to complete
the change.  We have made strides in regeneration of skin for burn victims,
and we have made great strides in our research on the cloning of organs,
which would be of great benefit to heart and cancer patients.  Imagine
being able to grow your own replacement heart or liver, without having to
wait for a compatible donor or running any risk of rejection.  They were
able to take samples of Alex's tissues, and grow an entire new organ to be
transplanted into her body."

   " All our examinations of her show that there was nothing immediate done
on the brain or nervous system, but the female traits are progressing, and
the male traits are in regression.  She is no longer able to simultaneously
perform dexterity drills while conversing, which she could do when she
first arrived, her facial expressions and movements and speech have also
developed quickly into a feminine mode.  The mathematical and logical
portions of her brain have regressed, while the intuitive side is now
dominating.  All the testing has indicated that the brain functions and
hemispherical relationships are those of a woman, while her memories and
life experiences are those of a man.  Her prospective of her memories is
adapting to a female point of view, and as Dr Levin explained before, her
acceptance of her new condition is growing daily, and in a short time it
will feel totally natural to her."

   Gorman concluded the meeting and asked Dr Levin and Greer to stay. 
"Julie, I want you to fly back to Nellis tonight, and tell Alex that she
can leave the base tomorrow.  There's no reason to keep her there any
longer, and word from the C.O.  there is that the personnel are circulating
some pretty wild rumors.  Charlie will give you all the documents you need
and fill you in on all the instructions.  Have a safe trip and I'll see you
next week."

   Greer handed Dr Levin a manila envelope from his briefcase and she
examined its contents.  Driver license, credit cards, bank account, social
security, birth certificate, and a wholly created credit history, tax
returns, high school and college records, medical history, family doctor,
the works, all provided courtesy of the witness protection program.  Greer
gave Julie instructions on what to tell Alex.  " There's been some
questions asked about Alex's disappearance by some reporters and we've
gotten some calls about this at the bureau office out in L.A.  We've been
able to come up with a pretty good cover story on this, and we got lucky on
a few things to match it up.  We found out for real that Alex had worked on
a screenplay with a college buddy back in New York about the life of the
Boss of the biggest Mafia family in the country.  His college buddy,
Anthony Palumbo, had grown up in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, and
they hung around the old neighborhood getting to know all the Gumbars so
that they could get the right dialog and flavor for the movie.  After the
movie came out, the characters and most of the incidents in the movie came
a little too close to the truth, and the Dandy Don and a lot of the Capos
and consiglieres and the like got totally pissed, and Alex and Anthony got
some threatening calls, especially when the FBI started putting pressure on
the mob and the US attorney was calling for indictments on some of the
incidents that really happened.  We dont think they were really going to
whack them, but our official line is that our investigation believes that
Dell was murdered as a warning to Palumbo.  After all, its been 21 years
and we still dont know where Jimmy Hoffa is.  Our explaination for picking
her up from the LAPD is that she had his ID and credit cards on her and the
FBI believed that she had information on the disappearance and was put into
witness protection.  I want you to remind Alex that if she should tell
anybody the real story, we can add to her file that she became delusional
because of the stress of the case, and has a history of making up wild
stories, and bring up her career as a topless dancer and the porno films
she made.  Everything she needs to resume a normal life has been provided
for her, and life will stay normal as long as she denies any stories about
aliens and UFO's.  If that doesnt convince her, then remind her if she goes
public with this, that the Mafia might want to come and chat with her about
her conversations with the FBI"
