_________

Part 1 - It's only natural
_________

Nick sat in his seat, looking out through the large tinted windows of
the bus. He was listening to a CD. He didn't feel like talking. He wanted to
disappear in to his own private world. The music offered that sanctuary.
Around him in the bus were the rest of the Backstreet Boys, doing there own
thing.

Nick looked to the other side of the bus. A couple of rows in front of
him sat Brian. He also sat looking out, Nick saw. For a minute there, he
couldn't help but wonder what went through Brian's head. What was he thinking
about? Probably nothing Nick would be interested in. Nick sighed. Probably,
Brian was thinking about Leighanne. His new 'girlfriend'. They had met when
they recorded their latest video, "I'll Never Break Your Heart".

Nick was jealous. There was nothing more to it. He admitted it to
himself. If he'd only known what would happen during that shoot, he would have
refused doing it.

If necessary, he would even had laid down and cried like a child on the
hotel room floor to get what he wanted. The guys would never have let him
forget about it if he would have done something childish as that. But at least,
then Brian wouldn't be sitting in his seat and be thinking about Leighanne now.

He sighed once again. It felt as if the whole world was against him.
That nothing he did was good enough for anyone. If it wasn't for Brian, Nick
didn't know if he'd still be with the Backstreet Boys. Or anything else for
that matter. To Nick, Brian was the reason he got up every morning.

The sun was barely over the tree tops. It wouldn't take long until it
would be dark. Nick closed his eyes. Another night in the bus. Another night
in the bus would mean yet another night where he wouldn't share a bed with Brian.

That was what Nick loved the most about touring. Not performing, or
hearing the fans screaming their names. Even though that was cool. No, what he
loved the most was sharing a room and bed with Brian.

To someone who wasn't in his place it seemed weird that all Nick wanted
was to be with Brian. He didn't care about touring or the fans who couldn't
stop loving them. But Nick already had that. Why wish for something he already
had. No, what matters to him was being close to Brian. Then he was happy.

It always amazed him that Brian didn't seem to mind sharing with him.
A fifteen year old boy who was afraid of the dark. Nick had always thought
Brian would prefer any of the other guys to bunk with, but had now accepted the
fact that Brian actually would choose to bunk with him instead of anyone else.
But tonight, they wouldn't bunk together.

It was probably for the best anyhow, Nick thought. But he couldn't for
the life of him figure out how it could be.

The rythmical movement of the bus was soothing. When his eyes were
closed, he almost fell asleep at once. He wouldn't have any problems getting
some sleep tonight.

***

"Hey, Nick." Brian sat down in the seat next to Nick and gently placed
his arm around Nick. "How are you doin', bud?" Brian said and brought Nick
closer. Nick leaned his head against Brian's chest, his eyes still closed.
Brian had woken him. But it didn't matter. Nick loved being woken by Brian.
It made him feel safe.

Feeling safe. Being safe meant that somewhere you had a place, most
often your parents or even the privacy of your own home, where you felt as if
nothing could ever harm you. Nick felt safe when Brian was there. If he
could, he would make the world stop turning just to make it last.

Nick dug his face deeper into Brian's sweater. He never opened his
eyes. He took a deep breath and inhaled the scent originating from Brian.
God, he loved that smell.

Brian looked down at Nick. The young blond was almost trying to hide
all of himself in Brian. Brian was amused. Nick looked so cute when he
snuggled up upon him. It was as the world couldn't bother Nick when he did
that.

"Nick, you can't sleep already. You won't get any sleep tonight if
you don't get up now." Brian spoke softly.

Nick didn't move and Brian didn't make an effort to make him. They
both enjoyed the moment.

Being on tour as often as they were, deprived them of a lot of both
emotional and physical contact they'd otherwise recieve. By being there for
each other instead, they managed to regain some form of mental health. The
human body and mind craved human contact.

The constant touring made life especially hard for Nick. He was
growing. He was, in many aspects, still a child. He needed someone to be
there for him. To look after for him. And most of all, he needed someone to
be his friend.

Brian was proud to take on that role. He never felt it to be a
burden. Nick brightened his life. Made him feel young. Not that he was
old. He just wasn't as young as he used to be.

Brian sighed deeply. He sat with Nick resting against his chest.
He knew he had to get Nick going. Otherwise Nick wouldn't sleep tonight.

"I wanna watch a movie or something. You'll join me?" Brian asked
Nick.

'Damn', Brian wasn't letting him of the hook easily. But Nick didn't
want to break the contact. What if he insisted on seeing a scary movie?
Then he could say he was scared and Brian would hug him, saying it was all
just a movie. The more Nick thought about it, the more convinced he got.
A scary movie it would be.

"Sure. How about Silence of the Lambs?" Nick heard himself say.
'Damn.' Had he said that? He really did not like that movie. It was creepy.
But it was also a perfect movie for his intentions.

Brian was surprised. Silence of the Lambs was exactly the kind of
movie Nick didn't like to watch.

"You' sure about that? It's kinda scary...?"

"Yeah. I'm sure." Nick didn't budge. He reluctantly lifted his head
and removed his earphones. He saw Brian looking at him.

"OK, let's head back then!" Brian said. In the back of the bus they
had a small lounge where you could watch TV or play a video game. It was
frequently utilized by Nick and Brian in their constant video game battles.
To Brian, it seemed as if Nick could play the videogames forever.

Brian got up and was followed by Nick. On their way back they passed
by Kevin, who also sat in his seat.

"Hey, Kevin. Me and Nick will watch a movie in the back, 'K?" Brian
said as they passed.

"Just keep it down, 'K? I don't wanna see or hear any wrestling
matches or something goin' on back there. AJ's gotta headache." Kevin said,
already dismissing them. He had other things on his mind.

The lounge was empty, as it often was when the two of them weren't
there. It seemed as if the rest of the guys did other things most of the
time. They didn't really know for sure. Some time was spent writing letters,
or talking on the phone. But for some reason, the lounge had become Frick
and Frack's.

Ten minutes inot the movie, Nick began moving slightly towards where
Brian was sitting. Nick really didn't know how he'd get closer to Brian
without it looking suspicious. But he moved anyway. Not that he needed to
move much. The room was small. Just about the size of the couch.

Nick glanced to his side. Brian was watching the movie and didn't
seem to have noticed anything. It was dark in the room. When Nick thought
about it, and especially in contrast to the movie, it was kinda scary.

Brian could both hear and feel Nick's breathing increase. Nick was
getting nervous. Brian smiled and held up the blanket he had on top of him.

"You wanna share?" Brian said, giving Nick an easy way out of having
to admit he was afraid.

'Yes!' Nick was almost screaming with joy. And relief. He quickly
scurried beneath the blanket and pulled it up under his chin. It was nice.
Brian had his arm around Nick's neck and Nick rested against Brian's side.
Suddenly, the movie wasn't as scary any longer.

They both lied on the sofa. The tv sat in the front of the room,
casting shadows on the walls. At times, Nick didn't watch the movie. He
lied watching the ceiling, thinking of other things. Nick felt so good right
now, he couldn't wish for anything more.

The movement of the bus was soothing. Nick had trouble keeping his
eyelids from falling down.

There was a scream. Nick opened his eyes and turned his gaze to the
TV. He knew he shouldn't be watching, yet he did. He couldn't keep his eyes
away.

From now on, Nick would have trouble sleeping tonight.

An, to Nick, eternity later, Hannibal was captured once again and
the movie was finally over. He stirred a bit and then rolled on top of
Brian, giving him a hug. He did it without thinking. It was something Nick
did from time to time. Just hug somoeone. OK, mostly Brian. That's because
Nick thinks he's so nice to hug. Nick really liked that. Contrary to what
one might think, there was nothing behind the hugs. It was just hugs that
said, 'hey, I care you know.', 'it's nice to hug.' or 'you matter to me, I
know you exist'.

Brian hugged back. Nick was so open, and honest. You could always
tell what he thought of things. To Nick, mostly everything was in black or
white. There were no grey zones. He was either happy or sad, things were
good or they were bad. He was talkative or he didn't speak a word. Most of
all, Nick was simply a breath of fresh air, Brian thought.

A couple of minutes later, Nick had almost fallen asleep. But he
was interrupted by Brian's voice. "We better get to bed, huh?" Brian said.
Nick sighed. There just didn't seem as if he'd ever get a chance to just be
with Brian.

"Aw, come on! Give me a smile!" Brian said when he heard Nick sigh.
"I know you got it in you somewhere!"

Nick sighed once again. But he couldn't resist smiling. When Brian
was like that, all he could do was to smile. He could feel the smile
spreading in his face and the joy that actually came with it.

He loved to smile. It always made him happy. It felt as if nothing
could go wrong. Then, of course, he remembered Leighanne. But Brian seemed
to always know how to cheer him up again somehow. Nick smiled.

"That's better! OK, get up or I'll have to make you!" Brian exclaimed
with laughter in his voice. It was time for some serious wrestling.

***

"You guys are unbelieveable! Didn't I specifically tell you two not
to make any trouble!" Kevin had walked in on Nick and Brian in the middle of
their wrestling match. He shook his head and turned around to leave. "Make
sure you get to bed soon, 'K? We've got a lot goin' on tomorrow." he said on
his way out.

That kinda brought the fun out of it. Nick and Brian soon both agreed
on a mutual cease-fire. They'd continue some other time.

Nick straightened his outfit and followed Brian out of the room, into
the small gangway leading through the entire length of the bus.

Both had their bunks in the first row. Brian had this time gotten the
top one. Nick quickly stripped down to his boxers and got in to his bunk. He
said good night to Brian and closed the drapes.

***

'It's dark' was his first thought when he lied there. It was very dark.
And cramp. Nick closed his eyes. But he opened them again almost immediately,
'What's that noise?'. His heart was pounding, and he began sweating. The
images from the movie was coming back to haunt him.

Nick laid there completely still, listening and scanning the small
alcove. But all he could hear was the hissing from the airconditioning, the
humming engine and his own heart beating. Nick swallowed. He closed his eyes
to try and get some sleep.

But the movie wouldn't give up it's strong hold on him. He turned
around. And once again closed his eyes, but opened them again an instance later.
He was facing the wall, that meant he exposed himself to the only way in to the
alcove. Immediately he turned around again. Perhaps if the pulled the cover
over his head? That could make him feel safe.

He pulled the cover over is head. That was actually quite nice. It
felt a lot better. Nothing could get to him now.

Just one problem. Air. Not long after he sheltered himself with the
cover, the air began to go sour. His exaggerated breathing didn't help to ease
the situation.

This was no good. Nick needed air. Once again, he found himself being
alone and vunerable when he escaped the confined area of the cover. He didn't
like this. Not one bit. Nick couldn't take it any longer.

"Brian." Nick whispered and waited for a few seconds. "Brian!" Still
no answer. Why didn't Brian answer? He couldn't be asleep already, could he?

"Brian!" He said a little louder. There was movement heard from the
top bunk. Soon followed Brian's voice.

"Yeah...?" Brian yawned. "What is it, Nicky?"

"Can I sleep with you?" Nick whispered. He hoped Brian wouldn't make
too much of a fuss. He didn't enjoy standing here. The bus rocked when it
passed over holes in the pavement and the wind grabbed hold of it from time to
time. Nick had to support himself against the walls to remain standing.

"What?" Brian was surprised. "Why? It's so cramp here."

	"But I can't sleep."

"It's just been like, what, 20 minutes?"

	"I know, but I'm scared."

Brian thought it all over. He knew he shouldn't have allowed Nick to
watch the movie. He knew this would happen. And yet he let it. Now he had to
take responsibilty for it. Besides, perhaps it wouldn't be too cramp. He
didn't know, he had never shared a bunk in a bus before. It was so ridiculous
no-one had ever come across the idea.

"OK. Come on." Brian opened the curtain and moved in next to the wall.

'Yes!' Brian had agreed. Nick rushed to get into the bunk, before Brian
would change his mind, or some spooky person would come and take him away and
eat his face. His body shivered just thinking about it.

"Thanks, Bri." Nick said when he had settled in the bed. They laid
next to each other, their bodies meeting everywhere. It was a very small bed.
Nick could feel Brian's breath when he exhaled.

"Err, Brian?" Nick had just realised something.

"Yeah?" Brian's voice was soft. Nick was amazed that he didn't sound
one bit annoyed or irritated when Nick interrupted him. Well, in fact, Nick
couldn't remember anytime when Brian had sounded annoyed about him. A bit mad
perhaps, but just as a joke.

"Could we trade places?" Nick said.

"Why? What's wrong with the one you have?"

	"It's creepy."

"Creepy? You afraid you'll fall down? It's no risk, there's nets and
stuff to keep you from falling."

"Nah, not exactly." Nick's voice lowered. He was embarressed. "It
feels as if someone will come and take me away if I lie here. And he'll eat
my face." Nick finished the last sentence whispering.

"OK. How about this; You roll on top of me and I'll try and move at
the same time?" Brian said.

Cool. Some more physical contact. Nick laid himself on top of Brian
as he had been told.

"Nick, this ain't working. You need to lift with your arms. Otherwise
I can't move!" Brian laughed.

Nick did as he was told and Brian could move. He moved slowly. It
wasn't easy manuevering in the bunk, no matter how small the movement.

There was a bump in the road, which made Nick move sideways and lowered
his body a bit.

The movement caused his penis to brush against Brian's. Nick was
wearing boxers, so it was pretty much free to roam around. And when gravity
did it's part, well, it was contact. Not direct physical contact, the clothing
kept them apart. Nick let a small moan escape his mouth. And then the moment
had past. But not in Nick's head. He knew what he had felt.

When Brian had moved enough, Nick slumped down on his part of the bed.

"Phew. Well, that was easy." Brian said with sarcasm. Nick didn't
know if he hadn't noticed anything or if he just kept the mood up high.

"Yeah, good night." Nick said. He didn't know what else to say. He
couldn't keep his mind off what just had happened. How it had felt. The
touch.

Nick closed his eyes and pictured it all over again. He was getting
hard. It was extremely arousing. That was the most sexual thing Nick had
ever experienced. And he liked it.

Brian turned around. Brian had turned from lying on his side, he now
rested on his stomach. But his leg touched Nick's groin. Nick was panicking.
Brian must feel his excitement. Nick swallowed and felt his heart once again
started beating roughly.

"Watch it, Nick. Or you'll bust your boxers." Brian mumbled when he
felt Nick's hard on. Brian turned around so he faced the curtain. He had
almost fallen asleep.

Nick's heart was pounding, it was unbearable. He couldn't believe
what just had happened. He was too afraid to even breathe. Now, Brian would
never bunk with him again. Brian would distance himself. As would the rest
of they guys. Even more than they already did.

Nick didn't move an inch. He lied there, not moving. He was just
waiting for the reaction from Brian to come. Nick saw in front of him,
how his whole world was falling to pieces.

The anticipated reaction from Brian didn't show.

Suddenly, it came to Brian's mind that Nick didn't move. In fact,
he did nothing. Brian rolled to his other side so he could look at Nick.
Their faces was now seperated by only a few inches. Brian could see the
face of a very scared teenager.

Brian spoke, "It's only natural, Nick." he waited a few seconds.
"There's nothing more to it. It's part of growing up, ya know." Nick still
didn't move or say anything. "Your hormones are raging. Soon, you'll be
going around like that all the time. If not already." Brian spoke
compassionately.

Brian felt sorry for Nick. It must've been embarrassing. It
annoyed Brian that he let his tounge slip before. He should have thought
ahead. Nick was a teenager. Still not accustomed to his body and how it
would act.

Brian hadn't rejected him. Nick couldn't believe what he was hearing.
Instead he was comforting him. Nick felt the tears starting to well up. He
couldn't hold them back. He started crying softly.

He didn't cry because he was sad. In fact, he didn't know why he
cried. It made him feel like a child. But he couldn't help it. As with so
much other things happening to his body. It was as if his body was rebelling.
He felt all these strange feelings and he was moody. Uncertain about things
in general. Uncertain of who to trust.

Perhaps he cried because he had believed the one who he trusted in
most, would turn his back on him. Perhaps he cried of relief. Perhaps it was
just his body and brain's way of letting go of some pressure. Perhaps he just
cried, because he didn't know what else to do.

When Brian saw Nick crying, he embraced him. He hold him as they lied
there in the bed and let Nick cry. Brian had been a teenager too, and he
remembered what it had been like. Nick cried silently, calmly.

"Aw, Nicky. You're cool, you know that?" Brian said and stroke the
hair off of Nick's tearstained face.

	"What?" Nick mumbled.

"You're cool. In fact, you're the coolest person I know." Brian said.

"Why do you say that?" Nick said and looked up.

"Cos it's true." Brian tightened his grip.

They lied in silence, Nick once again, as he did so often, rested his
head on Brian's chest. What would he do without Brian?

A few minutes later, Brian broke the silence and asked Nick how he
was doing. To Nick's amazement, he was actually feeling good. In fact, he
was happy. Something he thought he'd never feel again just a little while ago.
But of course, he was still embarressed. Both for the hard-on incident and
for crying.

Confident that Nick was back to his usual self, Brian spoke again. But
now to ease the tension which, to some extent, still remained.

"So, do you jack off? Every now and then, I mean?" Brian asked and
let out a muffled laugh.

	"Brian!" Nick whined.

Nick felt so embarrassed, he could feel his cheeks turning red. But
then he laughed too. Brian had said jack off. Now that left something for his
future sessions with himself.
