Disclaimer: Don't read this if you're not old enough or don't like gay male
relationships. This isn't meant to imply anything about anyone in N Sync or
Blink-182. In fact, there are some blatant lies in here. Mark is engaged,
and totally in love, not randomly hooking up with girls on the road for one.
For two, Travis doesn't have a girlfriend. And three, Tom has a
girlfriend, not a boyfriend.....But that's why this is fiction, so if you
like this sort of thing, read on.

Travis rolled over and buried his head under his pillow to drown out the
shrill beeping of the alarm clock.
"Ugh," Tom groaned as the noise filtered through his sleep, bringing him to
semi-consciousness. He rolled over in the hotel bed and one tattooed arm
emerged from under the covers to make a feeble attempt at shutting off the
alarm.
Just as he achieved success, the door connecting his hotel room to his
bandmate's burst open and Mark charged into the room and started jumping
from Tom's bed to Travis's chanting, "Get up! Get up! Get up! Get up!"
with each bounce.
Realizing he was about to be crushed to death, Travis unearthed himself from
his pillows and sat up in bed, rubbing his eyes and squinting at Mark.
"Someone must have gotten laid last night," Travis mumbled under his breath
as Mark continued his trampoline like antics.
"Wouldn't you like to know!" Mark responded playfully, coming to a rest on
Tom's bed, "But seriously, you have to get up. We have to be at there by 10
to get set up because we're doing a run through of the entire benefit show
at one. That leaves an hour to get packed up and on the bus." He added
pointedly.
Grudgingly, Tom rolled out of bed and shuffled towards the shower scooping
up the cargo pants and red Hurley shirt he had carelessly thrown on the
floor the night before. Shutting the bathroom door, he rested against it
for a moment before pulling off his plaid boxers and stepping into the cold
shower spray.
"I really hate how chipper Mark is in the morning after he's hooked up with
some girl." Tom thought to himself as he rinsed the shampoo from his hair,
"I wish it were that easy for me to hook up with someone all the time.
Maybe then I'd be happy in the morning too."
He turned off the water and stepped out of the shower with a frown as he
compared his odds with the others. It was easy for Mark; girls were all
over him after shows. Hell, girls were all over HIM after shows too, he
just wasn't interested. But it wasn't that often that guys hit on them at
after parties. Not that he was into the random hook ups anyway. It would
be nice to have someone the way Travis did, though. Travis and Ashley had
been together since before they'd invited Travis to join Blink as its
drummer, and Tom wanted nothing more than to have that kind of secure
relationship.
"All I want is a nice guy who loves me as much as I love him." Tom said out
loud to his reflection in the foggy mirror, "Is that so much to ask for?"
Tugging on his clothes, he left the bathroom to start packing his things.

Lance sat in his corner of the black limousine as it drove towards the
arena contemplating his situation and writing in his journal. After
overhearing the guys making guesses about his sexuality the night before,
Lance was more confused than ever. He knew he wasn't attracted to girls,
but was he really attracted to guys?

July 15th, 1999

The guys were talking last night after they thought I fell asleep about if
I'm gay or not. How can they make guesses like that and think they know,
when I don't even know. I don't think I'm attracted to girls, at least I
haven't been yet. But I haven't really been attracted to anyone but Tom.
Well, that's not really true. I definitely find JC attractive, and would
have jumped at the chance to have a relationship with him, if he hadn't
found Justin. They make each other so happy, I'm really glad for them! But
maybe I only felt like that about JC since we're so close. Maybe it has
nothing to do with me being gay. But Tom, I really do have a crush on Tom,
and we've never even met. What am I going to tell the guys? They really do
care. I feel like I should tell them something, but what? That I'm gay?
But am I gay? Am I gay and I just can't see it? Or don't want to see it?
I wish things could go back to the way they were, before I started feeling
this way. When all I had to think about was learning the dance moves for
the tours.

Lance stopped writing abruptly as the limo turned into the parking lot of
the venue and the guys sitting around him began to stir. Justin opened his
eyes and raised his head from where it had been resting against JC's
shoulder to peer out the tinted windows at the screaming fans. Hearing the
high pitched squeals woke JC, and he instinctively inched away from Justin,
almost ending up in Chris' lap.
"Get off me, man!" Chris yelled, playfully pushing JC across the seat and
into Joey, still dozing with his mouth hanging open.
"Huh, what? Is it time for breakfast yet?" Joey asked, looking around the
limo in a daze.
"No Joe," Lance replied, placing his journal inside the navy back pack his
sister had given him as a going away present the first time he'd toured with
N Sync. "We ate breakfast half an hour ago, remember? You ate almost
everything on the buffet."
"I'm a growing boy!" Joey pouted, patting his now growling stomach.
The limo pulled to a halt and security was ushering them backstage before
anyone could comment on Joey's eating habits any further.
"Justin, Justin, he's my Juuuuuuuuuustin!" A trio of girls screeched.
"I love Lance, I love Lance! I love Lance!" A girl shouted, waving her
arms in the air and running towards the guys, causing the bodyguards to
tighten in around the guys and move them towards the door faster.
With all the commotion, the guards failed to notice that Blink-182 was also
using the same entrance.
"Shit!" Travis shouted as he and his band mates collided head long into
the members of N Sync.
For a moment there was mass chaos as the eight guys sorted themselves and
their belongings out, and exchanged apologies.
"You ok JC?" Justin asked, extending a hand to his sweetheart on the
ground.
"I'll live," he answered, rubbing his butt where he fell.
"Where's my backpack?" Lance asked nervously.
"I've got it," Tom replied, walking over to Lance.
"Thanks." Lance said, trying to control the excitement in his voice. He
couldn't believe he was face to face with Tom.
"I can't believe we're actually face to face with N Sync!" Mark jumped up
and down mimicking the crazed fans. "I even touched Justin!"
Laughing, the guys gathered up their things and began walking towards the
dressing rooms together, chatting.
"Thanks for saying such nice things about us on TRL, guys." Lance spoke,
looking directly at Tom. Right into his eyes, the way he'd done so many
times before, only this time it wasn't a flickering image on TV, this was
real.
"We were just being honest!" Tom answered quickly. Caught off guard by
Lance's probing eyes he wasn't sure what to say next.
"Yeah, we respect your kind of music. We like you guys a hell of a lot
more than those other boy groups. The others are all totally put together.
They all come out sounding the same, having the same images. It's all shit.
They don't even all like each other! You're all friends, like us. And
damn, can you sing! We gotta respect that." Mark finished ranting as two
other boy groups performing at the benefit concert walked past.
"Why you gotta have such a big mouth, dumbass?" Travis scolded.
"It really means a lot to us to have you respect our sound, because we feel
the same way about you." Chris articulated, "I just wish I could jump
around on stage with a guitar like you do!"
They approached their dressing rooms and parted ways. Tom surprised himself
by letting his gaze linger on Lance a little longer than necessary, while
finding himself hoping he would meet up with Lance after the show.
"Well, I always thought he was the most attractive of the guys in N Sync."
He thought to himself, trying to rationalize the emotions that flooded his
being, "But this isn't physical attraction I'm feeling, it's definitely
more."

"I really enjoyed their set." Travis commented on N Sync's performance
after the show. "I know, I know, have me committed!" He laughed as Mark
and Tom stared in surprise at their drummer.
"They sure seem like nice guys," Mark added, "Let's see what they're up to
tonight. Maybe they want to hit a bar with us."
"Great idea!" Tom jumped up from his chair. "I'll go ask them." He
called over his shoulder as he made his way towards the N Sync dressing
room.
Knocking on the door, Tom was suddenly nervous. What if they didn't want
to go? What if they had already left? What if-
Suddenly the door swung open, interrupting Tom's thoughts, and he was
staring into the same gorgeous green eyes as he had been that morning. They
were just as disarming now as they had been then, and he began to fumble his
words, alternately playing with the hem of his red hurley t-shirt and
shoving his hands in his pockets. Finally collecting himself, he managed to
invite them out for drinks.
"YEAH!" Chris yelled, jumping up on the couch and onto Joey's back, "We're
going to party with Blink!"
"Yea, yea, yea, yea, I'm gonna pee my pants!" Joey darted around the room,
Chris in tow.
Justin looked upside down at JC whose head was in his lap. "You wanna go,
Josh?" Justin questioned, "Or would you rather stay in tonight? I don't
mind chilling at the hotel and watching a movie, if you're tired."
Josh sat up and gave Justin a quick kiss on the nose, "Nah, let's go out.
It'll be cool."
"You sure? I'll stay in with you, if you want me to." Justin took JC's
hand as his gaze lingered over JC's handsome features.
"Definitely. Let's all go. It'll be a lot of fun." JC said, getting to
his feet and pulling Justin up with him.
The group arrived at the bar, hoping to remain inconspicuous for the
remainder of the night. They sat down pulling two tables together and
started ordering drinks. Lance snuck a brief look at Tom out of the corner
of his eye. He had never experienced such extreme emotions! Lance was
incredibly nervous sitting next to Tom, to the point he almost wanted to
leave, but at the same time, all he wanted was to spend time with the object
of his affections.
Their drinks arrived and Lance sipped his beer perusing the scene before
him. Joey, Chris and Travis were goofing around, discussing the best pranks
to play on the tour bus. Justin drank his coke with one hand; the other
rested on JC's leg, while the two talked music with Mark. That left Lance
and Tom to talk to one another, something Lance wasn't sure he could handle.
"What did you say?" Tom shouted over the noise.
"I asked if you liked touring!" Lance yelled back, the speakers behind them
making it almost impossible to carry on a conversation.
"I can't hear you, wanna go outside?" Tom asked, excited at the prospect of
being alone with Lance.
"Sure, let me get another beer first." Lance replied, downing the last of
his Sam Adams and beckoning the bartender. Tom got another beer as well,
and they made their way out onto the patio.
"That's better," Lance sighed, sitting down on a bench, making room for Tom.
"Wow, and I thought our shows were loud!" Tom remarked, sitting facing
Lance.
The two sat in relative silence for a while, enjoying the cool evening,
their drinks, and one another's company.
"Lance is such a sweet, honest guy," Tom thought, finding himself lost in
Lance's eyes for the third time that day, "I never realized what a dynamic
personality he has. He really makes me laugh."
"How long have I thought about this moment?" Lance asked himself as he
focused intently on Tom's face. "This is more than just a silly crush. I
like the way I feel when I'm with Tom. I like the person he is, and the
person I am when I'm around him."
Slowly the distance between them lessened until only inches separated their
lips.
