This story is purely fictional. I am not implying that any of the

The Broken Hearted

Three

It was four in the morning, Ronan's eyes were transfixed onto the
phone "RING DAMN IT!!" he yelled. Just then it started to ring, he
leapt forward and answered it eagerly, hoping for the best.

"Hello?"

"Hi, we found him" Kian said happily.

Ronan sighed with exuberant relief, he steadied himself before
replying "that's good, where was he?" he asked, cautiously.

"He drunk himself silly Ro, we found him lying on a dirty floor" the
bitterness in Kian's voice was evident. Ronan didn't respond, he was
the cause of this, he knew it. He had never expected Shane to react
so badly, he had not intended to cause him so much pain.

"Something's happened Ro, someone has hurt Shane badly, I wish I
could get my hands on that person" Kian said, furiously, before
hanging up. Ronan let the receiver crash to the ground, he walked
over to the bed. Resting his face in his hands, he began to cry "it's
all my fault, Kian" he sobbed "I have hurt him.. I have hurt the
person I love more than anything else!"

The following morning...

"Is he up yet?" Mark asked

"No, still sleeping like a baby" said Kian, rubbing his eyes with his
knuckles.

"Looks like you could do with more sleep yourself" said Mark, looking
at Kian with concern.

"Nah, I'm okay, I'll just get some coffee, and I'll be fine"

Kian had hardly slept a wink after calling Ronan. He lay in his bed
thinking of how depressed Shane looked that night. How helpless he
looked. Kian had never seen his best friend like that before, and it
scared him... "What have we got on today?" he asked, gulping down his
cup of coffee.

"Erm, I think we're supposed to meet with Ronan before he flies off
to Montreal" Mark said

"Gee, I wonder what that could be about?"

"We'll I think he said he wanted to be more involved with our tour,
he's gonna take a little break and join us" Mark said, excited. Ronan
was hardly ever involved with the group anymore and it would be fun
to have him around more often.

"That'll be great" said Kian "Shane and Ronan are close, if there is
anyone who can help him get over this, it's Ronan".

----

Ronan was debating whether to cancel his proposed meeting with the
guys or not. He knew it would be easier to stay well away from Shane
for the time being, especially after what he has put him through. But
he enthused about this endlessly to Nicky and to Mark, assuring them
that he would spend his break with them. If he pulled out now,
without good reason, they would get suspicious, wouldn't they? But he
couldn't face Shane, he couldn't pretend like nothing had happened.
It was a real dilemma...

----

"Come on" said Kian, nagging Shane to come to the meeting.

"I don't feel up to it, Ki" Shane protested, it would have done him
good to get out, but there was no way he was going to meet with
Ronan.

"Ronan will be there, come on" Kian pleaded

"So??" Shane snapped

Kian glanced over at Nicky, helplessly asking for some help.

"It's okay Ki, I think he should get some rest" said Nicky deciding
it was a lost case. Kian followed Nicky out of the room, exasperated.

Shane closed his eyes, his mind filled him with images of Ronan
standing at that window, saying all those horrible and hurtful
things. 'How could he?' Shane asked himself 'just sex, is that all it
was for him?' he refused to believe that, but deep down he was
accepting it as the unthinkable truth.

----

Ronan glanced at his watch, then looked around nervously. He had
decided that the best thing to do was to pretend that nothing had
happened between him and Shane, he couldn't exactly avoid him
forever. He was very apprehensive about this encounter with Shane, he
did his best to summon up the strong willed character inside him to
keep in control of this situation.

The guys arrived laughing and joking. Ronan heard them from across
the room, he looked up, Nicky followed by Mark, Kian and then Bryan,
No Shane. Ronan sighed with disenchanted relief.

----

After the meeting was over, Kian pulled Ronan to the side for a
'quick word'.

"What's the matter?" Ronan asked

"Umm, I was wondering if you would come and have a word with Shane,
ask him about what happened, try to get him to open up a little
maybe"

Ronan felt a sharp pain rising in his gut. "I'm not sure that's such
a good idea" he said, cautiously. There was no way Shane would agree
to see him.

"Oh come on, he won't open up to me, your the best bet Ro, you guys
are close" Kian said

"I have to go to Montreal for a few days, I don't think I have the
time" Ronan was making excuses

"Your going tomorrow morning Ro, you have a bit of time, come on.
please, he needs you" Kian pleaded.

Ronan tried in vain to convince Kian that he wouldn't be able to get
Shane to open up, but Kian was just as determined. He insisted, and
Ronan gave in. He would go and talk to Shane that evening...
