Chapter 2

I awoke the next morning with disbelief. It felt like all of
yesterday was a dream. Am I actually hear in Vegas? Taking my surrounding
in, I answered my own silly question. I'm always a wreck in the morning,
takes me a couple of minutes to even remember my name. Guess I'm not a
morning person. I glanced over at my alarm lock. It read 10:04am. I had
my first class at 12:30. I figured I better get a jump on the day. I
looked over at the bed on the other side of the room. Empty, but it was
made. 'Wonder where Justin is' I thought to myself.

I got up and picked out some cloths to wear for the day, then
headed to the bathroom to take a shower. I took my shower and got ready
for my first day of classes. I emerged from the bathroom and saw Justin
out on the balcony. He had a coffee mug in one hand and looked to be
starring out at the sky. I walked out onto the little balcony.

"Good morning there.." I said still a little sleepy.

"Hey. Did you have a good sleep? I was so worried you would have
nightmares and not get a full night's rest." Justin said tenderly.

"I did thanks, I guess I was just overwhelmed with everything ya
know? New school, new environment, practically new life style. Any coffee
left?"

"Yea..big ol' pot on the counter, help yourself" Justin informed
me.

I went back inside to get me a cup of coffee and came back out on
the balcony sitting in one of the lounge chairs.

	"Hey Justin..."

	"..yea?"

	"thank-you."

"For what? the coffee? No problem."

"No, for last night...I really needed that. I don't know how to
thank you."

"being happy is a suitable thank you." Justin assured me.

We sat there for a couple of minutes taking in the view. Sipping
the caffeine induced coffee. Just living.

"The view is amazing.." Justin stated.

"Back in New York, you couldn't just walk out of your house and see
mountains. It was just something you didn't see. I guess I exchanged the
view of the ocean for the mountains." I told Justin.

"How is New York? What was your life like back there?" Justin
Inquired.
I took a long sigh, thinking back to what I left behind.

"I mean if you don't want to tell me, it's more than
understandable." Justin assured me again.

"No, no it's all right. It's nothing terrible, much. Not like I'm
running from the law or anything. My life back in New York was dull.
Unfufilling. You wouldn't think that, I mean I lived in New York, one of
the most popular cities in America, and I didn't feel like I was living.
So back when I was 15, my family came here to Vegas for a little vacation.
What can I say, the city left a lasting impression on me. And when I
learned they had a college right in the middle of Vegas, I knew it would be
a perfect college to go." I started to unfold my past. I took a sip of my
coffee. Justin was right there, hanging on every word. Listening to
everything, like he wanted to know the most he could about me. Why, was he
into me? What am I thinking? The coffee must be really strong if I'm
thinking about that.

"Go on..I want to hear more.."Justin pursued.

"So what else..hmm..Well by the time I took my PSAT's, I knew where
I exactly wanted to go to college, what I wanted to do with my life. The
other kids didn't know that. The most important thing they worried about
was the junior prom. Time went on and I did my high school thing. Got
parts in the school shows. Got reasonable grades. I didn't really feel
connected to the whole high school thing. Maybe I wasn't living in the
'now', I was too worried about the future. So when the time came to apply
to here, I got all the opinions possible. I had to deal with a lot. I
went for a long time without one person saying anything positive about
where I wanted to go to college. Nothing positive about my career.

"I know just how you feel, trust me." Justin said.

" I got all the comments, "UNL what? where's that?"--"Las Vegas?
You're gonna gamble all your tuition away."--"Vegas? Are you gonna major
in showgirls?"--"An actor? Better start waitering now."--"And what happens
when you don't make it as an actor, then what?" I took another long sigh..

"Guess you had it rough..I'm sorry" Justin said.

"It's more than ok....I think I needed to talk about that. I mean
I went here for me. Not anyone else. My parents thought it was a joke, my
friends thought I was betraying them in some way. But ya know what? I
don't care anymore, I'll just prove them all wrong."

"That's a great attitude. " Justin told me.

"I hope it works.." I said wearily.

"It will...look at that determination you have, you'll go places"
Justin told me sweetly.

I looked at my watch and it read 11:40am. I had to go.

"Well, ironically enough, I have to go to psych class. Thanks for
the chat. I think it'll help. Thanks for listening Justin" I said.

"Anytime, anytime...anything to help a friend." Justin assured me.

I thought ' a friend '. My first new friend in my new life. A
smile came across my face. This isn't going to be bad at all I thought.

"So I'll see you at acting class later today?" I asked Justin.

"Yea, def. I'll be out mostly this morning, I think I'll work out
at the gym today before my afternoon class." Justin said.

"All right, thanks again, bye" I said.

	"later..Brett" Justin said to me.

Justin sat there, he felt lonely now, now that Brett had left for
class. Brett was so fascinating to Justin. Justin felt bad for the
trouble Brett has had to endured. He wanted to make it up to him. Justin
was all confused. Was he feeling what he thought he was feeling? Justin
felt confused, but he had to go work out before he'd make himself late for
his English class.

I arrived back at my dorm around 1:30pm. My psychology class was
very interesting. I was always fascinated with they way one thinks.
Justin wasn't there so I assumed he was at his class. I had about another
hour and half before our acting class. I was really looking forward to it.
I loved acting. It was my escape from reality. And with Justin in my
acting class, made it even more enjoyable.

I put on some music and got settled with my laptop. I wanted to
see if I had any e-mails. I signed on and had some mail. All of it was
junk, except one. It was from me friend Madison, back home. I really
didn't want to read it. Her and I never fully got back to the friendship
we had before. I clicked on the mail and read it.

***************************************************
	Dear Brett,
Hey honey, it's Kim, remember me? I hope you don't forget
us all while you're out there. I still can't believe you actually went
through with this..you're insane! Boston is fun, I'm having a great time
here. It's cold here, but I bet you don't care b/c you got sunshine the
whole year. Miss ya!

Love, Madison

P.S. please write back, please...
****************************************************

Was I insane? Why did she have to say that? She always knew how to
make me feel like shit. Disregarding her p.s. I deleted the mail. I
didn't want to deal with her, not after what she did. I didn't want to
ruin my life here. I started to get hungry, so I decided to check out the
college food. Maybe it won't be that bad.

The food wasn't all too bad, could be better, but it also could be
worse. So I'm not gonna complain. I started to get ready for acting
class. Justin left a message saying to meet him at the theater building so
we can go to class together. I got my stuff together and went over to the
theater complex. I spotted Justin sitting under a tree, with his hat and
shades on. Trying to blend in I assumed. I thought I'd have some fun
here...I snuck up behind him and..

"OMG, OMG, OMG it's Justin from N*SYNC...ahhh!!! OMG!!" I said like
a hyper teenage girl. Justin nearly had a heart attack on the spot.
Scared as ever he turned to see who spotted him out. He had the biggest
look of relief on his face. That's when I started to cracked up.

"Do you want to die? Because I will do it....don't doubt me funny
boy." Justin joked back.

"Nah...you can't get rid of me that easily" I retorted back.

"Ok funny guy, ready for class?" Justin asked.

	"oh yea.." I replied back.

We got to class and the teacher started to go over the course and
what was expected. It seemed pretty intense, but I knew I could handle it.
We had projects due ever 3 weeks. Scene analyzing, monologues, an original
one-act, basic stuff. The class was pretty small, only about 13 of us
including Justin and I. We started class with some basic improv games, to
get us used to each other and our varying styles. Ken, our teacher, called
two names at random to go up and do an improv. Justin I could tell was
nervous about the whole impov thing. i don't think he did any really.
Unless you count MMC, but I bet that was all scripted so he didn't have
much improving experience. He was sitting next to me, I grabbed his hand
and told him..

"Don't be nervous...you'll do great, I'll be right next to you.."

Justin smiled. I thought that'd do the trick to make him less
nervous. With that said Justin and I went up to do a scene. I was so used
to doing improv's it came naturally to me, Justin could tell I was good at
this first three seconds in. Justin was a store clerk and I was a customer
trying to return a blender, simple enough. The scene was pretty funny.
Justin did great. He got over his fear of people judging him during the
scene. I guess I put him at ease. We sat back down.

"That wasn't so bad know was it?" I asked Justin.

"Not at all..I never knew you were so good at improvs. I'm
impressed, I don't think I could have went through with it without
you..thanks" Justin told me.

"Hey, no problem, it's the least I could do.."

Professor Ken told us about our first project. We were to do a two
person scene with our choice of a scene and our choice of a partner.
Naturally Justin and I teamed up. He asked me if I had any scene's that we
can use. I smiled at him and told him 'yea.' I had the perfect scene in
mind...

to be continued...
