Nick and Ashley- Chapter Seventeen

AJ and Jacob had left AJ's home in West Palm Beach, Florida. It was January
9th and AJ McLean's 24th birthday. Jacob took AJ out to eat for lunch as
the start of his birthday present. He pulled up to the Orlando home of
O-town. It was about 7:30 at night and after Jacob put the car in park, he
felt a hand on the back of his neck. AJ pulled Jacob into a long, deep,
sensual kiss. A kiss that meant thank you and a kiss that meant that he
enjoyed their relationship.

"I enjoyed spending today with you. Thank you for lunch." AJ said as he
pulled out of the kiss.

"Yeah well that was just the first present. This is the second one." Jacob
said as he pulled out a small, wrapped box from his jacket pocket and
handed it to AJ.

"Jake, you didn't…" AJ began but was cut off by Jacob's finger on his
mouth saying, "Shhh."

AJ shook his head with a smile and began to open the gift. He pulled off
the top of the box and pulled a thick-chained, silver necklace.

"Oh wow Jake this is awesome." AJ said in awe. "No one's ever gotten me
something like this."

"I think you look good in silver." Jacob said.

"I'll look good in anything you get me." AJ said with a smile as he handed
it to Jacob to put it on him.

Jacob fastened the clip and watched as AJ turned around and looked in the
mirror.

"How do I look?" AJ asked.

"Beautiful." Jacob said simply.

AJ leaned in and kissed Jacob again, cherishing the gift. He pulled back
just a little to say "Thank you" through a smile and then continued to kiss
him. Jacob ran his hand over AJ's face and lightly traced the well-defined
goatee. Both men pulled out of the kiss and stared into each other's eyes.

"C'mon birthday present number 3 is inside." Jacob said as he got out of
the car.

"J, this is too much." AJ said.

"Shh. Just come inside with me." Jacob said grabbing AJ's hand and pulling
him to the door.

"Go ahead open it." Jacob said with a smile on his face.

AJ approached the door with trepidation and as he opened it he was greeted
by about 25- 30 people yelling "SURPRISE!!!" which was immediately followed
by a singing of "Happy Birthday."

AJ looked back at Jacob as he shuffled into the room and closed the
door. He silently thanked him with a wink and walked around the room to say
hello to everyone.  The crowd included all the members of Backstreet and
O-town, along with producers, friends and managers among others.

AJ made the rounds around the room as the music started and the drinks were
passed out.  He made his way over to all of his friends, who hugged
him. Eventually he got to Nick and Ashley and after hugging him Ashley
handed him a gift.

"What's this?" AJ asked

"Just a little something from us." Ashley said. "A way of saying thank you
for all the support from the beginning."

AJ opened the gift and saw the diploma from his alcoholic rehab class in a
laminated frame and at the bottom of the frame was engraved, "January 9th,
63 days sober."

AJ looked at the gift and his eyes began to tear. When he first realized he
had a problem, it was his friends that confronted him and pleaded with him
to get help. He realized once he got out that his brothers from BSB were
still there for him and he saw that he could lean on them for help when he
needed it.

He hugged Ashley and then came over to Nick and just looked at him. Both
men began to cry just from looking at each other.

"We're proud of you Bone." Nick said through tears.

AJ grabbed Nick and pulled him into a strong embrace, a tower of friendship
and support.

The furniture was all cleared and the middle of the largest room in the
house was wide open which made for a very nice dance floor. The techno song
"Darude Sandstorm was being played through the speakers and all the boys
were letting go on the dance floor. AJ saw Jacob in the corner of the room
with a party cup in his hand, watching AJ on the floor. He walked over to
his boyfriend, admiring the way his reddish-brown dreadlocks fell over his
face.

"Ya know, that stuff will kill ya." AJ said pointing towards the cup.

"This stuff?" Jacob played dumb looking at the cup.

"Yeah." AJ said beginning to get annoyed.

"My mommy always said apple juice was good for me though." Jacob said as he
took another sip of the juice.

AJ laughed and put his arm around his boyfriend.

"I'm sorry for doubting you Jake." AJ said as he kissed his boyfriend
tasting the juice on his lips.

The sounds of the music slowly faded and everyone stopped to see Ashley up
on stage and holding a microphone.

"Hey everyone. Good party huh?" Ashley asked to the crowd.

Everyone screamed out in agreement.

"First I just wanna say Happy Birthday to AJ." Ashley said as the crowd
responded with cheers. "I also wanna say thank you to the Backstreet Boys
for bringing us along on this wild ride they call touring. We're having a
great time, besides almost dying and stuff."  Ashley said as everyone
laughed. "But anyway, we're gonna have a little fun now. We're gonna do a
little Battle of the Boy bands. We'll let the crowd decide who they like
the most." Ashley continued. "O-town is home field so BSB is up first."

The five members of the Backstreet Boys stepped up to the dance floor as
the crowd cleared a circle for them in the middle. They attached handless
microphones to their heads and had a quick huddle and decided what songs
they wanted to perform.  Kevin ran outside real quick to his car and
grabbed the necessary props he needed, which he just happened to keep in
his car as sort of a memory as Nick went to the DJ and requested three
songs in order. AJ, Howie and Brian went to the other room and got 5 chairs
and set them up in staggered order. Kevin came back in with a bag and
pulled out 5 hats that looked like something Indiana Jones would wear.

All 5 men put the hats on and sat backwards in the chair putting their
heads down. "All I Have to Give" came through the speakers and the boys
began their routine, utilizing the chairs by spinning them around and
hopping over them, giving them a very sexy appeal.  As they kicked the
chairs out of the way, the boys did a very familiar routine rolling the
hats off of their heads, on to their arms and back on their heads. This
routine was one of the reasons that they were famous now and each man did
their section of the song as it came to an end with the crowd cheering. The
men threw the hats over towards the bag they came from and a new song came
through the speakers. The song began with a piano drift and the crowd
immediately recognized it as their latest single "Drowning."

It was a beautiful ballad that seemed to catch the crowd's attention. It
was a song that spoke volumes of messages and was sung with conviction by
each man. Nick stepped up to the front of the 5 men and stared right at
Ashley as he began his part of the song.

"I can't imagine a life without your love And even forever don't seem like
long enough

Every time I breathe I take you in And my heart beats again Baby I can't
help it You keep me drownin' in your love

Every time I try to rise above I'm swept away by love Baby I can't help it
You keep me drownin' in your love."

The boys finished up the ballad and stood in position for the next song.
Suddenly the lights went out and "Larger Than Life" came through the
speakers. A blue strobe light kicked on behind them giving an extra sense
of intensity as AJ stood in front of everyone.  The boys performed as hard
as they could, proving that they may be the oldest boy band in the business
but that doesn't mean that they've lost a step. They were perfect. Each
member showed why they had become so famous. They were together on each
step as the song ended and the crowd cheered wildly for the boys.

O-town clapped in respect as they walked onto the dance floor, each holding
a stool. The Backstreet Boys left the floor, receiving hugs from O-town and
the rest of the crowd. The 5 members of the younger band set up the stools
in a row and sat on them with a microphone standing in front of them, with
their handless microphones around the backs of their heads, as they were
not needed yet.

The sounds of "Baby I Would" came through the speakers and the boys did
their body routines, also pushing their microphones back and forth as the
routine called for it. The boys performed this beautiful ballad, which
started the crowd off slow. This was a song for lovers and Dan, Ashley and
Jacob all knew it as they stared out into the crowd directly into their
boyfriends' eyes.

As the song came to an end, a familiar song kicked through the speakers yet
the crowd noticed it as a BSB song and not an O-town song. This was done on
purpose of course as the 5 members of O-town began to do the dance to
"Everybody". The crowd not only had a good laugh at his but also began to
respect the range of the O-town boys as the song faded out halfway through
and faded into the chorus of "Every Six Seconds", which was obviously one
of theirs.

"Every six seconds My body starts begging Your sweet thing wrecking me

The crowd was pumped up after hearing this cover/fast-paced song and went
even crazier as they heard a very familiar piano riff that made this band
famous. "All or Nothing" was being blasted through the speakers and each
member gave their all in each of their parts as if to show that they are
the boy band of the future and they're here to stay. As Dan stretched out
the last note of the song, the crowd of friends cheered wildly.

All 10 members of the two bands came together on the stage in one big hug.
Bands may separate and music may grow out of style but friendships never
die.

Jacob was lying on his bed in AJ's arms, as most of the people had left and
the party began to die down.

"I had such a good time tonight. Thank you very much." AJ said as he kissed
Jacob's forehead.

"Well, I've got one more present for you." Jacob said.

"What else could you possibly give me?" AJ asked

"Myself." Jacob said.

"What do you mean?" AJ asked

"I want you to make love to me." Jacob said.

"Are you sure Jake?" AJ asked his boyfriend.

"I'm positive. You've been nothing more than the best thing to ever come in
my life and I want to show you how much you mean to me." Jacob said.

"I love you Jake." AJ said.

"I love you too." Jacob said as he leaned in and kissed his boyfriend and
slipped his hand underneath AJ's shirt. He felt the hard chest that had a
trail of black hair down the center.  He played with the dark nipples that
AJ sported and then moved down and began to unbuckle his belt button to his
jeans. He pulled down the zipper and put his hand into his boxers as they

"Who's the new guy Carter?" the younger man asked.

"Yeah that's what I figured." The other man with a trace of hair on his
chin said.

"Huh? What? Wait, what the hell is going on?" Ashley asked getting
thoroughly confused.

All of the sudden Nick and the two strangers began laughing hysterically.

"Ok now I'm really confused." Ashley said.

"Ash let me introduce you to Justin Timberlake and Lance Bass of N'Sync"
Nick said as Lance and Justin took off their hats and sunglasses and
revealed their identities.

"Wow, well I just went from confused to star-struck." Ashley said as he
laughed a chuckle of relief.

"Sorry about that, I figured I would play a trick on you." Justin said as
he shook his hand and then Lance extended his and they also shook hands.

"Aren't you guys supposed to be like worst enemies?" Ashley asked Justin
pointing towards Nick.

"We're supposed to be but we're not. We don't let the fans in on it but J
and me have always been tight. Lansten on the other hand I'm not too sure
about." Nick joked.

"Thanks Nick. So how's the head man?" Lance said towards Ashley.

"It's good actually. All healed up. We're heading back out on tour
tomorrow." Ashley responded.

"That's good. We were all worried about you. We gotta stick
together…even though you are competition." Justin said.

"Thanks a lot." Ashley said.

"So, I guess the rumors really are true about you two huh?" Lance asked

"Yeah that's my man." Nick said.

Once again Ashley was confused.

"You guys know?" Ashley asked

"Ash, they knew about me before I met you." Nick explained.

"Wow there's still a lot of stuff I'm in the dark about huh?" Ashley said.

"Nah, you'll get it eventually buddy, trust me though you're on the right
track with Carter over here." Justin said.

"That's funny" Ashley said.

"What?" Lance asked

"I've never heard anyone call him that," Ashley said with a giggle. "So are
either of you guys gay?" Ashley asked a personal question

"I've got Britney Spears as a girlfriend. It would be a sin for me to be."
Justin said with a laugh. "Yeah that's not a rumor." Justin answered
Ashley's question before he could ask it.

"What about you Lance?" Ashley asked.

"Yeah I've been known to indulge in the same sex every now and then." Lance
said honestly with a laugh.

"I can't say I've never done it either but I truly do love Brit so it's
been a while for me."  Justin said.

The boys enjoyed the time together catching up and eventually embraced each
other in friendship and said their goodbyes. Justin telling Nick that he
and Brit would stop in every now and then when they were home. Nick and
Ashley had to head back though to start packing for the flight tomorrow at
noon. It was time to get back to work.
