Subject: chapter 5 - twisted history

Hi there everyone. I know it's been ages since i posted anything on this
story. I'm so, truly sorry. I had a combination of writer's block, heaps of
schoolwork and some more stuff. It's been a hectic time and all. I'm not so
sure that the next chapter will be out until december because I'm going
away to Belgium soon for a week and there are alot of preparations to be
done for that week. But I will try harder this time and try and write every
so often. Please bear with me ok?

Twisted History

Chapter 5 - Lost and found

I woke up sitting in a chair in what seemed to be a study. I had a terrible
headache and there was blood on my shirt. On the desk in front of me was a
letter. I leaned forward to read what the letter said but I didn't
understand the words. I looked around the room instead and rose from the
chair. The door to the room was open so I walked out of the room. I walked
down the hallway and it ended where I lost my conciousness and where Lance
fell over the railing. I couldn't see any blood on the stairs. I leaned over
the railing and I couldn't see anything strange at all.

-"Lance?" I yelled but there was no response.
-"Janet?" I continued but nothing happened.
-"Donna?" I waited for some seconds and then could I hear footsteps coming
from below.
-"Who's there?" I yelled as I began running down the stair to the second
floor. I stood on the second floor, out of breath; trying to hear from what
direction the footsteps came. They still seemed to come from below so I ran
down the next flight of stairs to the first floor.
-"Where are you?" I yelled to whoever it was. I still received no response.
I listened hard to hear from what direction the footsteps were coming from.
It came from one hallway leading away from the main hallway. I ran to check
the first hallway but there wasn't anyone there. I ran to the second one and
it was empty as well. The footsteps were becoming louder, probably because I
was coming closer to its source.

I ran and checked the third hallway; I could see a person walking down the
hallway.
-"Who are you?" I yelled at him or her. The person ignored me and kept
walking. I started to walk towards the person. I walked faster and faster.
As I came closer I noticed it was a man and when I got really close I saw it
was Lance.
-"Lance? Answer me Lance?" I spoke loudly. Lance didn't turn around, I
walked past him but he didn't look at me, he just kept on walking. I firmly
gripped his wrist with my hand and pulled him backwards but he jerked his
hand away and kept walking.
I took a firmer grip this time and pulled him around to face me.
-"Lance!" I yelled at him but he didn't even flinch. I took my free hand and
smacked him across his right cheek. Lance stood still with hos mouth open. I
shook him lightly and he came out his trance.

-"Lance?" I asked again.
-"Yes? What is it?" He asked me.
-"Are you ok?"
-"I think so. What happened?"
-"I don't know. I honestly don't know."
-"Where are the others?"
-"I don't know. I heard footsteps and that was how I found you."
-"My god, Martin! Are you ok? There is blood on your shirt."
-"I'm fine. All I know is, it isn't my blood. But I'm worried about you. You
fell down three floors. Are you sure you're ok?"
-"Of course, I'm fine. I didn't fall down any floors."
-"Yes you did, you fell down three floors. I saw you fall over the railing
myself."
-"But...I'm ok. Right?"
-"Seems so, yes. But I swear I saw you fall over the railing. A lot of
strange things are happening here..."
-"I don't like it here at all. I'm a bit afraid."
-"We all are. You're not alone in this."

I pulled Lance into a hug and stroked his back with my hand. He leaned his
head on my shoulder and I could here him sniffle. I couldn't show him that I
was afraid too. I had to be strong for him. At least, I had to look like I
was strong. I led Lance out of the hallway and when we reached the stairs we
heard a loud scream. A girl in a white dress fell from four floors above us.
She hit the floor right in front of us and a pool of blood was forming under
her. This girl was a stranger to us and I thanked god it wasn't Donna or
Janet. I looked up hopefully to see the person who pushed her over the
railing. I couldn't see anyone up there. I bent down to check her pulse,
even though she fell four floors down. There was no chance that she would
have made it through that fall but with everything that had happened here, I
was ready to believe almost anything.

-"Let's go find Donna and Janet." Lance said from behind me.
-"Ok, let's go find them." I said as I rose.
-"Where do we begin?"
-"Second floor? That was the floor we lost Janet on."
-"Yes it was. Let's head up then." We got up to the second floor and
searched through every hallway. We opened every door that wasn't locked but
we couldn't find her. Neither was there any trace of her.
-"Where can she be?" Lance asked.
-"I haven't got the faintest idea." I answered after awhile.
-"Martin! Lance!" We both heard from behind us. We turned around and saw
Janet running towards us.
-"Janet!" We both exclaimed at the same time. She ran into us and hugged us
both at the same time. She was crying as we hugged. We parted and tried our
best to console her. Janet was on the verge of a breakdown. She couldn't
tell us what made her scared but she promised us it was horrible. We came to
the conclusion that this was a truly strange house and that it must be
haunted. That was the only logical explanation for all that had happened to
us here. Janet looked down to the first floor and saw the girl that had died
due to falling from the fourth floor.
-"Nooo! This can't be happening!" She screamed and began to cry.
-"What is it?" Lance asked her.
-"This can't be happening. This shouldn't be happening" Janet was trembling.
I took a firm grip around Janet's wrists. She had to tell us what she'd been
through.
-"Tell us now, Janet. You've got to tell us what happened or we can't help
you." I commanded.
-"This is too horrible." Janet fell to her knees. Both Lance and I went down
on our knees as well and comforted her. I patted her back as she was cried
on Lance's shoulder.
-"It's a feud. All this is a feud between four families."
-"What? What do you mean?" Lance was quick to ask.
-"A feud is taking place here between four families."
-"And what has this got to do with us?"
-"I don't know but I do know that people are going to get killed."
-"How do you know all this?" I asked her.
-"I ran as fast as I could and when I turned around a corner a girl stopped
me. She told me what that is going on here."
-"A girl? Who was she?"
-"I don't know. But when she'd told me what was going on in here, a man came
out of a room and screamed 'Sarah!'. The girl started to run away and I
followed her. We ran around another corner and there stood this man. I don't
know how he got there but he took a firm grip around the girl's neck. She
screamed at me to run away and I did so. That was when I found you."
-"What happened to the girl then?"
-"She's lying there." Janet pointed at the dead girl on the first floor.
-"But how could that be her? We saw her fall from the fourth floor and not
from the second." Lance was confused.
-"I don't know. But I'm positive it's her. I promise."
-"We believe you." I said and rose to my feet.
-"We've gotta find Donna before something bad happens to her. Then we can
consider leaving this house."
-"I'm game for that." Lance flashed a weak smile. We all headed up the
stairs to the fourth floor. That was where Donna had run to and we figured
that would be a good place to start looking for her.

All three of us now stood on the fourth floor. We looked around to see if
anything unusual could be seen. We saw a door far away that was half open.
Only a few seconds after we noticed the door, loud laughter could be heard
from within the room. It was the laughter of a woman.
-"That could be Donna." Lance stated and began walking towards the door. We
followed in agreement. As we came closer to the door, we heard more laughter
followed by two distinctive voices. One voice was female while the other was
male. They spoke to each other. They were speaking to each other, but were
speaking too low for us to hear what they talked about. As we got closer to
the door we tried to listen to the conversation-taking place inside. Every
now and then there was a laughter. And for the first time the man in the
room laughed too.
-"You mean that Mr. Richard is after the fortune?" The female voice said in
the room.
-"Yes. He wants it all for himself. I've heard he's going to invest it all
in a tools manufacturing plant in Atlanta." The male voice cut in.
-"Tools manufacturing? With the war and everything? They have no right to
come here and tell us how to run our own country!"
-"You're absolutely right. This will be a disaster for everyone here in our
beloved states."
-"I totally support your cause. It's important we don't let the states up
north take over. They're against everything that we stand for."
-"Let's toast to celebrate our companionship!"
-"It's nice to meet someone who is prepared to fight for the greater cause."
The voices stopped. Nothing could be heard from inside the room. Lance dared
a look inside the room and it was empty. He entered the room and we
followed. It was a study. There was a desk and a bookshelf, leather chairs
and a large leather sofa. I walked over to the desk to search through it. I
sat down at the chair in front of the desk and began looking around. I
opened every drawer but I couldn't find anything. Lance and Janet inspected
the rest of the room. The shelf held everything from the bible to business
papers, lists of different businesses and the whole workforce. It looked
nice and clean but the gut feeling told us differently. I rose from the
chair and walked over to the small table along one wall. I saw a strange
ring flash in the light on the table and I felt over it with my hand. It was
a liquid of some sort and I brought it up to my nose to smell it. It was
wine or champagne. When I thought about it, I could smell perfume too, a
weak scent in the room. I told Lance and Janet about it and they thought so
too. I got the feeling it would be a lot harder to find Donna than I thought
in the beginning. But we had to continue until we did so we exited the study
and continued down the hall. We searched every room but we couldn't find
anything to help us.

We returned to the stair after we'd searched the whole floor. Donna was
nowhere to be found. We were just about to give up searching the floor when
we heard a female voice scream. The voice came from downstairs so we quickly
walked down the stairs and saw Donna walking towards us. She looked calm and
didn't look afraind at all. She asked why there was blood on my shirt and I
told her the whole story so far. She couldn't understand what we've been
through. She hadn't seen anything horrible or strange herself. She's lost us
somewhere on the way and had spent all this time searching for us. She
couldn't find us anywhere until now.
