Westlife Romance - Part 13

"Nicky," Shane explained, "I know you're concerned about me...and I
appreciate that. I'm just tired, that's all. I haven't been sleeping
well...and the last few days have been kind of emotionally draining."

Nicky still looked skeptical, but he didn't push the issue. "Just remember
that I'm here if you need anything, ok, Shane?"

"I'll remember that," Shane answered with a smile. "Thanks, Nix."

Nicky returned the smile and got back to studying his music.

Shane's smile soon faded as his misery returned. "Damn you, Shane," he
cursed himself silently, "you just betrayed your band mate. You're just as
guilty as Kian..." The voice kept condemning him, preventing Shane was
concentrating on anything. He was glad when the rehearsal was over, glad
that he could try to get away from everyone so that he could be by himself.

As the lads rode back to the hotel, Shane was lost in his own world. He was
overwhelmed by feelings of guilt. Every time he looked at Nicky, he would
see Kian hugging or kissing him. Every time, he would feel more and more
guilty.

That night, Shane could not sleep. No matter how hard he tried, he just
could not escape his guilty conscience. Even taking a sleeping pill did not
help. Finally, he gave up trying to fall asleep and got dressed instead.
He took the elevator down to the bar and sat alone, trying to clear his
thoughts. He was so deep in thought that he did not notice someone taking a
seat beside him. Looking over, he saw that it was Kian.

"What do you want?" Shane asked in a hostile tone.

"Couldn't sleep, huh?" Kian asked softly. "Want to talk about it?"

Shane glared at his band mate. "Just drop the act, Kian. Just drop it,
okay. I'm sick and tired of it. You know damn well why I can't sleep."

Kian placed a hand on Shane's shoulder, but the older boy moved away.
"Shane, you're my best friend...don't do this to me..."

"And Nicky is your boyfriend. Did you ever think about what you were doing
to him?" he replied in a hushed yet angry tone.

"I already said I was sorry, Shane. And I swear I won't hurt him again."

"You're hurting him by not telling him," Shane retorted.

There was a moment of silence. "No matter what you say, I just wanted to
thank you for not telling Nicky..."

"I'm warning you, Kian, if you EVER fuck with someone behind Nicky's back
again, I'll tell Nicky everything," Shane threatened. His face said it
all...he was dead serious.

Now it was Kian's turn to get angry. "I don't know what is your problem,
Shane. Why can't you believe me? I told you I won't do it again!!"

"Because I know you, Kian. I know you all too well..." Shane replied.

"Well, if you don't want to believe me, suit yourself." With that, Kian
turned and left the bar, leaving Shane to deal with his guilt in solitude.

Morning came all too soon for Shane, who only fell asleep as the sky began
to brighten. The phone ringing rudely interrupted his brief sleep.

"Ugh..." Shane muttered into the phone.

"Wakey, wakey, Shane!!" It was Bryan's familiar cheerful voice.

"Okay, okay...I hear you!!!" Shane hung up the phone, got up groggily and
walked to the washroom. "How does he get so cheerful in the morning?" he
asked himself. After washing up and getting dressed, Shane made sure his
bags were packed. This was the day they moved to Chicago, the next stop on
the tour.

As the lads gathered by the tour bus, the tour staff was getting the bus
ready. Shane stood with the rest of the lads, chatting away. As he talked,
he saw a guy bringing his bags to the bus. "Where have I seen him before?"
he thought. Then it dawned on him. This was the guy from the stairway!!
This was the guy giving Kian the blowjob. Excusing himself from the lads,
he walked over to the manager of the backstage crew. "Bill, who is that lad
over there?"

"Who?" the man answered. "Oh, him!! His name's Derek. He joined the tour
a few months back. A really good kid. Why?"

"Oh, nothing really...just that I haven't seen him around before," Shane
answered. "Thanks anyways, Bill."

The bus ride was long and boring. Soon after the bus left the hotel, Bryan
and Mark fell asleep. Nicky was with Kian, as usual. Shane was sitting
alone, reading the paper and occasionally just staring out the window. He
must have dozed off for a while because the next thing he knew, he heard
soft sobs a few seats away. Glancing over, he saw Bryan wiping tears from
his face. Concerned, he made his way over to Bryan's seat.

"What's the matter, Bry?"

Bryan dried his tears and looked at Shane. "Oh, nothing much."

"Come on, Bryan, talk to me..."

"I'm just happy that Kian and Nicky are so happy together..." Looking over,
they could see Nicky asleep in Kian's embrace.

Shane cringed as he heard Kian's name. "If only you knew..." Shane thought
to himself.

"I wish I had someone who loved me like that," Bryan said longingly.

"Oh, Bryan. You will...I promise you'll have someone to love you..."

"I hope so...I really hope so..."

The rest of the bus ride went by slowly. When everyone finally woke up,
Bryan was back to his cheerful self and Mark was just getting his
orientation back. Shane was finishing a phone call and Kian and Nicky were
still in each other's embrace. Arriving at the hotel, they quickly went up
to their private floor. Because they could only get four rooms this time,
Kian and Nicky decided to share a room. This arrangement suited them
perfectly. Everyone decided to rest for a bit before meeting for dinner.
Once in their room, Nicky went to take a quick shower. Kian was watching TV
when his cell phone rang.

"Hello?"

There was no answer. All Kian heard was the sound of sobbing.

"Hello? Who's there?"

"Ki...Kian..."

"Derek??? What's the matter?"

"Kian...I...I just got fired...I have to leave for Dublin in 48 hours..."

...to be continued....
