Westlife Romance - Part 5

The night was long for Kian. Even though he was weak from his fever, he
could not find any fitful sleep. He was waging a battle in his mind. On
one side, voices condemned him for betraying Nicky but on the other side,
voices encouraged him to pursue his relationship with Derek. All of these
forces only confused Kian. Was his so-called relationship with Derek worth
destroying what he had with Nicky? His thoughts were interrupted by the
phone ringing. Groggily, he reached over and grabbed the receiver.
"Hello?" he mumbled.

"Hey baby, it's me!"

"What time is it?"

"It's almost 8 already. Then again, you were never a morning person," the
voice responded cheerfully. "So? Did you tell him?"

The question posed to him immediately jolted Kian awake. "No...I didn't get
the chance. I mean...it just wasn't the right time."

Silence.

"Oh...I see." It was an obviously disappointed reply.

"I'm sorry, Derek. I promise I'll do it soon, though."

"It's okay, Kian. I didn't mean to push you. Anyways, I'll see you later
at rehearsal."

"Okay, baby. You're not angry at me, are you?"

"Of course not, Kian. Don't be silly. I love you, baby."

"I love you too," Kian replied. Hanging up the phone, he tried to get back
to sleep, but it was a losing battle. Just as he was about to finally dose
off, the phone rang again. With a growl, Kian reached for the phone.
"Yeah?" he answered with obvious annoyance.

"I'm sorry, baby. I didn't mean to wake you up."

"It's okay, Nicky. Didn't mean to snap at you."

"No worries. How are you feeling this morning?"

"A lot better, baby."

"I'm really sorry about waking you up. I just thought you were awake
already 'cause your line was busy earlier."

"Don't worry about it, Nicky. I was just chatting with my parents." Kian
immediately felt a wave of guilt wash over him. "I just lied to Nicky
without even flinching," he chastized himself silently.

"Well, if you're feeling better today, we have to go finish up that group
photo shoot."

"Okay, I'll meet you guys at breakfast."

"Great. See you then, baby."

Kian slowly got up off the bed and proceeded to get himself ready for the
day. He was more confused than ever, and feeling increasingly guilty over
what he was doing. Yet he could also feel the situation slowly slipping out
of his control.

Bryan woke up to bright sunshine. "Another new day," he thought to himself.
As he got himself ready for the day, he was surprised to find himself in
such a positive mood. Only several hours ago, he was devastated. "Did
Nicky's approval of me mean that much?" Bryan thought. "Does he really have
this power over me?"

Bryan opened his door to head for the breakfast room, only to see Nicky
emerging from his room. The older boy saw Bryan and flashed a smile.
"Morning, Bryan. Feeling better?"

"Much, Nix. Thanks for last night."

"You're welcome, Bry. Anytime."

The two boys walked to the breakfast room in silence. Not an awkward
silence, just comfortable silence. As usual, Shane and Mark were already
having their breakfast.

"Morning lads," Shane greeted cheerfully. "Where's Kian?"

"He's going to be here shortly," Nicky answered as he grabbed a plate of
food. Walking towards the table where the rest of the lads were sitting,
Nicky noticed that Bryan and Shane were subtly yet deliberately ignoring one
another. Pretending not to notice, Nicky sat down began eating his
breakfast as Kian walked into the room. One look at the blond singer and it
was obvious that Kian did not get much sleep last night.

"You feeling better, Kian?" Mark asked.

"A bit. Still not 100% but I'll live," Kian replied as he joined everyone
at the table. "So when do we leave for the photo shoot?"

"In about 30 minutes," Shane answered.

"You don't happen to have any friends to meet today, do ya, Bry?" Mark
asked.

Nicky cringed as he heard the question. He gave eye signals to Mark, who
picked up on it quickly and kept his mouth shut. Bryan kept his eyes on his
food and just shook his head. The rest of breakfast continued in relative
silence.

Before leaving for the photo shoot, Mark went back to his room to get his
sunglasses. Kian also went back to his room to freshen up. Nicky followed
his boyfriend.

"You sure you're gonna be okay with this, Kian?" Nicky asked with concern,
knowing how gruelling photo shoots can be.

"Yeah, I think so," Kian answered with a smile. "Plus, you're gonna be
there with me, so I think I'll do just fine."

Nicky smiled at Kian's answer, his heart melting at the sight of his
boyfriend's smile. "I'll meet you downstairs then."

"See you in a bit."

Nicky walked back to the breakfast to see Bryan and Shane sitting in an
awkward silence, neither of them talking to or looking at each other.
Sensing the tension, Nicky tried to break the ice a bit. He could tell that
Shane wanted to tell Bryan something. Just as Shane was about to speak,
Bryan got up from his chair and grabbed Nicky. "Come on, Nix, let's meet
the guys in the lobby." Nicky could see the disappointed look on Shane's
face. He looked at Shane with sympathetic eyes as he followed Bryan.

"He doesn't even want to be in the same room as me," Shane sighed. "Have I
lost him for good?"

...to be continued....
