fears were realized.  For an unknown reason, the baby had passed away.  Joe
held Liz's hand and told her he loved her.  She told him she loved him too.
The doctor then told them they needed to prepare Liz to take the baby.  Joe
told her he would go out, and let Dawn and Paul know what was going on.

As they wheeled Liz into surgery, Joe went out to the waiting room.  When
he walked out, Dawn and Paul came up and asked where Liz was and what was
going on.  Joe sat down with Dawn and Paul and told them he had some bad
news.  Neither Dawn or Paul needed to ask what was wrong.  They could see
it in Joe's eyes.  Joe hugged Dawn and Paul and told them he loved them.
They hugged him, and told him they loved him also.

While Joe was telling Dawn and Paul what was going on, the doctor called
for Joe to come to the recovery room waiting room. Joe walked into the
waiting room, and was met by the doctor.  He asked the doctor how
everything went.  The doctor told him everything went well and that he
would be able to see Liz soon.  Joe told the doctor he had one more
question.  The doctor asked him what he wanted to know.  Joe told him he
was curious if the baby was a boy or girl.  The doctor told him the baby
was a girl.  The doctor asked Joe if he and Liz had discussed a name for
the baby.  Joe told the doctor he would discuss that with Liz when he saw
her.  The doctor told Joe he would let him know when he could see her.

Joe returned to Dawn and Paul and told them Liz was ok.  He went on to tell
them the baby was a girl.  Dawn and Paul began crying softly as they
hugged.  Joe hugged them both and reassured them they would all get through
this together.  Paul then hugged Joe and asked if they knew who the father
was.  Joe told him not yet, but if the baby wasn't his they would just say
they knew who the father was.  Joe asked Paul what he wanted the baby named
if the baby was his.  Paul told him he would have named the baby Elizabeth
Dawn.  Joe smiled and told Paul he loved the name.  Paul asked Joe if the
baby is he what he would name the baby.  Joe told him he would name her
Paula Elizabeth.

The doctor came out, and told Joe that Liz was asking for him.  Joe
followed the doctor to Liz.  Liz looked up and told Joe she was sorry.  Joe
leaned over and told Liz she had nothing to be sorry for.  Liz whispered
she robbed him of either his child or his grand child.  Joe told her all he
needed to know was she was ok. Liz whispered she was ok, but she needed
some rest.  Joe followed the nurse as she wheeled Liz from recovery to her
room.  Once Joe knew Liz was settled, he went back to talk to the doctor.

Joe asked the doctor if they could run a DNA test to possibly determine why
the baby didn't survive, The doctor told him they could do it, but it
wouldn't determine the cause of death.  The doctor had Liz swabbed, while
he swabbed Joe.  After running the test, the doctor came back and told Joe
he had more bad news for him.  Joe asked what was wrong now.  The doctor
told Joe he was not the father.  Joe told the doctor that they knew who the
dad was, and he would notify him.

The doctor then told Joe they would need a name for both the birth and
death certificates.  Joe told him her name was Elizabeth Dawn.  The doctor
then asked him who he wanted to have tell Liz the news.  Joe told the
doctor he would tell her.  Joe then thanked the doctor for all his help,
and headed for Liz's room.

When Joe walked in, Liz looked up and told him she loved him.  Joe walked
over to her, and kissed her gently.  He sat down beside her and told her
the baby was a girl, and also the baby was Paul's.  Liz kissed Joe and told
him she loved him.  Joe kissed her and told her he would always love her.
Liz asked him where and how he would tell Paul the news.  Joe looked in her
eyes and told her he would tell them when he got home.  Liz kissed him, and
told him she loved him.

Joe walked back out to get Dawn and Paul to head home.  On the way home
Paul asked how Liz was doing.  Joe told him she was doing ok, and she would
be home soon.  Paul then asked Joe the question he knew was coming.  Paul
asked if they knew who the father was.  Joe looked at him, and told Paul he
was.  Paul asked Joe if God was punishing Liz for sleeping with him.  Joe
assured Paul it was not his fault.

When Liz came home a few days later, Joe took time off to help Liz around
the house, and with Paul.  Joe wouldn't let her lift a finger to do
anything.  Liz would always make sure to tell Joe how much she loved him.
Joe would hug her and kiss her all the time.  The two felt as though they
were back on their honeymoon minus the great love making.  One day Joe
received a phone call from the doctor.  The doctor told him they had
determined the baby's cause of death.  Joe sat down, and asked the doctor
what they found.  The doctor told him they found the baby's lungs stopped
working which was caused by Liz being under extreme stress.  When Joe hung
up the phone, he walked in and told Liz what the doctor said.  Liz began
crying and apologizing over and over again.  Joe assured her it wasn't her
fault.  But deep down inside Joe knew who's fault it truly was.  Joe told
Liz he was going for a short ride, but he would be back soon.  Liz asked
Joe to please bring Paul out with her.  Joe carried Paul out, and laid Paul
on the floor beside the couch before he left.

When Joe got in his car, he knew where he was going and why.  What he
didn't know was how he would handle how angry he was.  Joe drove over to
Kathleen's house, and sat in the car.  He tried to calm himself down before
he walked up to the door.  As he approached the door his anger came back.
Joe knocked on the door.  When Kathleen answered she asked Joe what was
going on.  Joe stood on the step and told her he was there because he just
wanted her to know what and who killed Liz's baby.  Kathleen asked him what
he was talking about.  Joe told her what the doctor told him.  Kathleen
looked at Joe and told him she could tell he was trying to blame her.  He
looked her in the eyes and told her yes.  Joe then told her she was to stay
away from the house until he said it was ok.  Joe then told her if he saw
her at the house, he would have her arrested.

Joe did his best to help Liz and Paul get through the next few months.  Joe
spent as much time with them as he could.  They all resumed their regular
lives.  Liz thanked Joe for being such a loving husband.  She also thanked
Paul for being such a loving son.  They even resumed their normal love
making with each other.  None of them regretted making love.

As for Dawn and Paul, they continued their loving weekends together.  They
also included Joe and Liz from time to time.  Dawn and Paul felt as though
they were falling deeper and deeper in love.  Dawn continued surprising
Paul each weekend in some way.  She told him he was the only man she wanted
to make love to.  Paul told her he felt the same way about her.  They
continued getting even closer.

Authors Note : Loving Affair Part 10 will show how Dawn and Paul continued
to get even closer.  We will also see how the loss of the baby brings Joe
Liz and Paul even closer.  We will also see how Dawn and Paul handle going
on vacation with just Joe and Liz, because Charles has to work.
