Chapter 7



John, the proud father and Uncle Andy, attended Jacob's graduation in San
Diego. Tom and Evan await their arrival at the Airport in Indianapolis. The
two decided to surprise them by being there when their plane arrived at the
terminal. It took Tom great lengths to convince Evan that he would be fine
in such a large busy place. His phobias caused him to avoid them when he
could. He trusted Tom and knew he needed to be there for Jacob.

In Evan's eyes it was something he had to do to be there as a parent. He
wasn't going to let his illness stop him from doing this one little thing
that would mean so much to John and his son.

Tom fulfilled his promise to John to protect him while he was away and he
convinced him to get back on his medication. Actually, Tom did more than
that. He told him he was going to take them and there was no other option,
or he would force him to, if it came to that. Evan realized his friend was
not going to take no for an answer. Tom was there for him the next two days
as Evan went through the usual severe side effects of getting them back
into his system.

The first day was the worse of his side effects. After only a few hours he
started having severe nausea and sweats. Tom helped him the best he could
get through the first day. He stayed up all night with him as he vomited
about every 2 hours and then went into the sweats as the medicine went
through his veins. Tom, at one point, had to undress them both and put him
into a cool shower to get his high temperature to near normal. Tom just
held him close under the water as it did the trick.

He waited on him, caring to his every need, as Evan's body quickly excepted
the drugs and by Sunday afternoon he was feeling good enough to make the
trip to the airport. Tom promised Evan he would not tell anyone that he had
a minor set back as long as he stayed on his meds. They made a pack as
friends to honor the agreement.

Tom never discussed what happened to them in the hot tub or later in
bed. Evan didn't seem to remember any of it so he let it go. He would try
to forget his sexual urges for his friend and learn to live with them. He
loved Andy and that was more important than giving in to his desires to be
with his friend.




Their plane arrived on time and the both of them waited in anticipation as
they watched strangers stroll down the exit ramp. Evan saw John's head
tower over many that was in front of him and chuckled to himself to the
sight and then said, "I see them Tom, they're coming."

"Where, I don't see any of them." Tom said as he scanned around the many
faces coming their way.

"Look up there you can see John's head." Evan said as he pointed and
smiled.

By that time, they both could see the shocked look on all of their faces
that they were being greeted at the airport. Jacob smiled ear to ear when
he saw them as he ran up and hugged them both in one big swoop.

John and Andy joined the group hug and John looked at Evan then smiled and
said, "Just couldn't wait to see your boy come home, could yeah?"

Evan smiled back as they hugged and said, "I wouldn't miss this for
anything."

Jacob was so excited to see all of his family again he forgot to introduce
his buddy that came home with him from boot camp. No one realized there was
a young guy standing outside their circle of hugs watching them reunite as
a family.

Jacob gave Evan a tight embrace and said, "I missed you so much Ev! Thanks
for coming to greet us. You don't know how much it means to me. I love
you."

Evan pulls back to take a look at his son, the Marine. " I just cant
believe how much you changed. You look so different." He said then hugged
him again trying not to tear up seeing Jacob home safe again.

Tom and Andy hugged each other and whispered something in each others ear,
then quickly broke their embrace like normal men would. No overt signs of
affection that would draw eyes to them. The smiles on their faces told an
entirely different story that they only knew.

John watched the two and thought, 'Some things don't ever change.'

Jacob finally spoke up and said, "This is my friend Luke. He's going to
stay with us until we both deploy to our next assignment."

Luke was about 5' 10" tall and very stocky built with brown hair, well what
was left of it after the Marines shaved it off. He looked older for his age
as he was the same years as Jacob. His hard life had worn on him already
and it showed compared to Jacob.

Tom and Evan seem surprised there was another one in the group as John
explained, "He's our guest and staying at the house till then." As he looks
at Evan with an odd expression that Evan knew well.  Evan knew John inside
and out and it meant 'I will tell you later and just go with it.'

Tom looked at John and then at Andy and seemed a bit confused then shook
his hand and said, " Welcome to Indiana, Luke."

Luke said, " Gee... Thanks Sir. It's nice to be here."

Evan shook his hand and told him, " Glad to meet ya. You will our guest as
long as you like."

Jacob just smiled and put his arm around his buddy Luke and they ran off to
go watch for their luggage coming down the conveyor.

Evan looked at John and said, " Anything I need to know?"

Tom glanced over at John as he told Evan, " Not really much to tell, the
boy has no family."

Tom and Evan looked at each other still a bit confused as both knew what
they were thinking but didn't dare ask the question.

The hour long ride home was filled with stories of boot camp and how hard
it was. Jacob told Evan he couldn't wait to get a home cooked meal, to
which John gave Evan a big grin as the two knew what each other was
thinking. The last words to Evan when he left was Jacob wouldn't be home an
hour before he started talking about Evan cooking him some dinner.

Tom, Andy, and Luke drove behind the others towards home as they got to
know each other. Tom questioned Luke like a drill Sargent to the point that
Andy butted in and gave him a look that said, shut the hell up. Tom took
the look and backed off. He had learned from the drilling that Luke had no
family and originally came from Kansas and moved a lot growing up as he was
shuffled to different family and foster parents. He joined the Marines to
be on his own. He didn't have a girlfriend. He and Jacob were good friends.

As they followed the others into the long driveway, Luke just looked in awe
of the place.

"Holy Shit, Jacob didn't tell me he was rich." Luke said as he gazed up at
the large old farm house with the long drive in awe.

Tom laughed and said, " It's Evan's family home, and they aren't rich."

Andy tried not to laugh and just smiled at Tom.

Everyone piled out of the cars as Riley greeted them one by one. Riley was
getting old and he had a harder time moving around so he greeted people now
more with a sniff and that's about it. Most of his energy seem to be spent
these days just walking. Evan knew the day was coming soon when he would
have to say good bye to his old companion.

All the luggage was shuffled into the house. John yelled at Jacob to show
Luke around and that he wanted to talk to Evan for a second.

"OK dad...will do." Jacob responded with a smile.

Evan looked at John and then they grabbed each other in the driveway and
John hugged him so tight squeezing him. Evan gasped as he had waited three
days for this embrace. It was the longest he had to go without John and he
felt whole again. He didn't want to let go it felt so good and he smelled

John broke their embrace and said, "That meant so much to Jacob for you to
meet us at the airport. It meant a lot to me Ev. I want you to know

Evan beamed brightly and said, "It's what a good parent does."



Upstairs in the house, Andy came up behind Tom as he was putting down
John's luggage in his bedroom. He grabbed and kissed him on the neck
catching Tom off guard. He spun around and pushed Andy off him looking at
the door to see if anyone saw. Andy laughed at him being so secretive and
nervous.

Tom frowned as he quietly said, " Dude stop it. What if Jacob's friend sees
us?"

Andy closed in and said, " Its OK, he knows Jacob has two dads and he knows
about us also."

Tom looked upset that his business had been discussed without his knowledge
and didn't look pleased. He was to the point he didn't care who knew about
him and Andy. All the same he still didn't like others discussing it behind
his back. He still had some pride of his manhood as he tried to protect his
image.

"Did you miss me?" Andy asked.

"You know I did." Tom said as he looked back into the eyes he loved so

Tom stared back at him and said, "I'm not going to get out of this till I

"Andy laughed and said, " Two doors down is the bathroom Luke."

Tom looked at Andy and got the meaning then smiled.

Andy kissed Tom again and ran his fingers through his hair. "I missed you"
Andy confided.

"Missed you too." Tom said as he kissed him back.



Everyone met downstairs in the kitchen and Jacob explained to everyone
Luke's situation.

"Everyone, Luke here is my good buddy. We met doing drills and I told him
all about my special family I have. And how lucky I was to have all of
you. Luke's parents died when he was young and grew up in foster homes
mostly. He and I are going to be stationed in North Carolina in a few weeks
so I told him he was welcome to come stay here with us. He is cool with
everything so just be yourself." Jacob looked at his two dads and then
continued, " And please promise me... no embarrassing childhood stories."

Luke laughed as did everyone else.

John spoke up and said, " Like I told you earlier. Your welcome here
anytime Luke. We are all family here. Were sorry about your parents bud,
that must have been tough for you."

"Its OK Mr. Clark, I haven't known any different." Luke said.

Evan spoke next and said, " That's right Luke, you make yourself at
home. And Jacob...no promises about the childhood stories."

Everyone laughs as Jacob gave Evan a frown then hugged him like he hadn't
seen him in thirteen weeks. He missed his other special parent always being
there caring and supporting him. He realized just how much when he was
away.

Evan and John cooked a big welcome home dinner with steaks on the grill and
Evan cooked in the kitchen then everyone set around the table eating and
enjoying their family's company.

John stood up and towered over all and said, "I'd like to make a toast to
Jacob and Luke. Your Marines now and we're proud of you."

Cheers from the table followed as everyone drank wine to John's
announcement.

Luke stood up and said, " I want to thank John and Evan for allowing me to
be here and for the kindness you have shown me. Jacob was right, he is a
lucky man to have such a great family."

"So tell us how you met each other, Jacob?" Evan asked.

Jacob smiled and look over at Luke and said, " We were talking about where
we came from and I told him about my two dads and he just had the weirdest
look on his face. I thought, Oh great, a closed minded ass is now going to
give me shit. But he didn't. he only said, 'Dude that's so cool. So whats
it like?'

"I told him I didn't know anything different. Its kinda like they both are
there for me like any other parents." Jacob explained.

Jacob continued, " Another guy overheard us talking and started saying shit
about it and before I could teach the dude a thing or too, Luke just turned
around and punched him right in the face so hard he broke the guy's nose."

" I didn't mean to break his nose, but the asshole deserved it...Um sorry

Jake tried to explain before Andy cut him off and said, "Its OK Luke you

Everyone laughed as Tom gave Andy a look and said, " Screw you, and just

Tom laughed and said, You here that, he called me sir!" As he motioned him

Andy just smiled and shook his head.

Jacob, John and Evan continued to talk around the table and catch up on
everything that had occurred in the last 13 weeks. It was good to have
their boy home. The house just seemed more alive with him home.

Tom and Luke went out on the back porch, sat down and lit up.

"Can I ask you something sir." Luke said

"What's with the sir shit dude, call me Tom."

"Sorry, habit from the boot camp." Luke says

Tom takes a drag off his cigarette and then a swig of his beer and says,
"So ask away."

Luke looked like he was trying to find the words and then finally asked, "
So you and Andy are together? I mean Jacob told me that you two are his
Uncles, but that's all he said. He didn't tell me much else but how great
you two were with him growing up."

Tom looked at him and thought about what he wanted to say as he took
another drag off his cigarette and then threw it out into the butt can, "
Damn I don't know why I still try to smoke those things." He said then
continued as he looked at Luke. " If you are asking me if that hot muscle
head deputy sheriff is my partner, then the answer is yes. We have been
friends for a long time now and I hope I don't have to kick your ass if
your trying to move in on him." Tom said as he tried to look stern at Luke.

"Um no...no... you don't think I'm gay do you?" I was just wondering
cause...Um, I just was shocked to see you two guys kissing upstairs. You
both just look so..."

"So what?" Tom played with him knowing what he was trying to say.

"Sorry Tom, I didn't mean anything, but I just meant you both look so
straight I guess."

Tom laughed at Luke's uncomfortableness. Dude lighten up its OK. I
understand and I actually dated women for a long time, but I am with Andy
and we are good for each other."

"He is my muscle head jock cop." Tom smirked at Luke.

Luke smiled and laughed at Toms words then said, "I'm straight, but he is a
good looking man."

"Hey boy, don't make me punch you in the nose." Tom said then laughed.

Luke laughed back and Tom added, "Looks like Jacob has a good friend. Its
good to meet you Luke."

"Thanks man, I really like it here." Luke admitted.

"Yeah me too. This is all our home in a way. John and Evan are good
friends.

"I can't believe how big Mr. Clark is. He's very tall." Luke said.

Tom laughed and said, "Yeah, you got to be careful around Big John, you
eventually have a hard time breaking away from his gravity and you get
sucked in by him. He's my best friend and he's a great guy. He's devoted to
his family and friends. He is a real gentle guy but not one to be crossed
with when it comes to the ones he loves. He will snap you like a twig when
he's pissed off."

"He was really good to me and made me feel welcomed when Jacob asked him if
I could come here. He just looked at me and said. " Of course son."

"Yeah, John has a big heart." Tom replied.

Tom added, "I'd watch out for Evan though, you know he's bat shit crazy
right?"

Luke looked a bit nervous and said, "Jacob told me he has
schizophrenia. But he looks like he's fine to me."

Yeah he looks OK, but I'd stay clear of him, he can freak out at any minute
and try to kill ya...No, seriously. we have to keep the knives locked up."
Tom laughed as he seen the look on Luke's face.

"I'm joshing you dude. That little twerp has the biggest heart you will
ever meet, I promise ya that." Tom said as he put his hand on Luke's
shoulder and then said "Welcome to the nut farm."

Luke laughed and said, "I never been on a farm before."

The next day the house was filled with family and friends welcoming Jacob
back home. Evan had invited everyone and threw him the biggest party he
could fit in the house since the October autumn weather wouldn't permit an
outdoor one. Jacob's high school friends were all there. His Grandmother
doted over him and was so glad to see him again. Carol was happy to get to
see him before she left for Florida for the winter. She wouldn't leave
until Jacob went in a couple weeks to his next assignment in North
Carolina.

The party went into the late hours and Luke seemed to really enjoy himself
and one of Jacob's friends named Karla took a shine to him and they were

Jacob and Luke went on a double date with the girls they met at the party
the very next evening. John and Evan were glad that the boys were having a
good time and they had some time alone in the house finally. Evan was
relaxing by soaking in a hot bath to get the chill off. His meds he started

he was cold all the time in the autumn Indiana weather.

John came up into their master bath to check on him. He walked into the

"Evan looked over at him as John sat on the floor leaning up against the
tub then said, "Why are you asking questions when you already know the
answers to them. I'm sorry John, I messed up again."

"Ev, you know I love you and I don't judge you on how you take care of your
illness, but you really think you could hide from me not taking your
meds. You think I don't know you well enough to know whats going on. I know
the signs when your back on them again. I'm not going to say anything you

trying to stay warm.

"I'm sorry. I messed up again. I didn't want this to happen. I just lost
control of it, but Tom got me back on them so really all is OK now."

"How did Tom get you back on your meds?" John asked.

"He told me he made you a promise and I was going to take them on my own or
he would hold me down and force them down my throat." Evan explained.

John just smiled and said, " I bet he would of too."

"Yeah I thought so too, so I gave in." Evan said as he looked away from
John.

John took a sip of his coffee then asked, "How did he know you weren't
taking your meds?"

Evan had a puzzled look on his face and then said, "Weird, I'm not really
sure. I didn't even stop to think and ask."

"I'm glad he did. I love you Ev. I want you to be happy and enjoy things
again. Jacob is going to leave soon and I need you?" John said as he looked
over at Evan.

"I'm not going anywhere. You are stuck with me for life. You know I've
never loved anyone else but you."

John looked like he had something on his mind and after he sipped his
coffee again, he turned and looked over at Evan with a stone faced look and
asked, "Are you sure? Sometimes I think you secretly love Tom too?"

"Evan sat up quickly and hugged John from behind while he was still in the
tub and said, "John, you know I only love you that way. I love Tom like I
love Andy. Don't be silly to think me and Tom could ever be anything
else. We would kill each other in less than a week."

John finally said what had always been on his mind, "I know, but you can't
