The Mennonite - A New Start 31

   I went to the house and announced that we would be having guests over
for supper and everyone better be on their best behavior tonight. David
asked; are the love birds coming tonight. Yes, Rob and Joe will be here
tonight and two others will also be here. Alec questioned who else will be
here Poppa. I responded first is Jenny Larson and I also invited Clyde to
supper as her date, it's about time we showed him how a real family acts
around guest.

  David exploded; Poppa I can't believe that you invited that piece of
trash here to this house for a meal, and as Jenny's date to top it all off
have you lost your mind in your old age. I got up and placed my finger in
the middle of my son's chest and started off, let me tell you one thing
young man you will never raise your voice to me in this home ever again and
who your Daddy or I invite into this home is our business and if you have a
problem so be it. No one is perfect in life; we all make mistakes, some
people make major life changing mistakes that they have to pay for a very
long time. And who I set Clyde up with is none of your damn business young
man, she knows that he is here instead of prison for a major screw-up, All

  David apologized for his outburst and said it would never happen and we

  David admitted that he had never thought it about that way, money doesn't
make up for love and he was so blessed to have us in his life after how he
started out his life. I hugged my son and told him that I loved him, but
unless he wanted everyone hear him crying as I whipped his ass tonight he
had better be on his best behavior. Yes Poppa I will be, and I will respect
your and Daddy's home and choices. I said; come with me Alec I need help in

hope Erin can cook or he will starve once they get married later on.

 I asked Alec if he would be okay with Clyde's visit to his home or would
he like to visit some of the cousins for supper. No Poppa I'm okay with it,
I'm safe here and he learned his lesson when David took care of his poor
ass, he won't never be the same there again. Besides me just needs to meet
someone special and fall in love, what does he think about Jenny. I looked
at Alec and said; when Jenny tried to take his drink the poor boy couldn't
speak, he was so taken by her beauty. Alec replied let's just hope David
doesn't do something stupid to ruin it for Clyde and Jenny. I'll address
that subject before she arrives here with everyone tonight.

  Soon it was 5:00pm and the guys had arrived and Micah sat them down and
went over all of the rules with all of them. I looked at David and said;
Young man you will be on your best behavior tonight, not a word about why
Clyde is really here other than it was an alternative to jail time, that's
not your place to speak of it. And if you get a case of the smart asses and
do say something, it will cost you dearly young man. Like say your
graduation gift when it comes into port.

  David's eyes lit up and said what is it Poppa, please tell me I promise I
will keep quiet sir. No son you will have to just wait for it to arrive,
and Micah Earl you had better not tell him what it is either. Micah said;
not a chance he will have to wait for it.

  The meal went off without a hitch, everyone was perfect I guess the
promises that I made paid off. When everyone left David remarked; boy she
has bad for him, almost as bad as he has it for her do you think they will
get together as a couple. I asked David; if they did would it be a bad
thing for either of them to find happiness. No David said; it would do
Clyde a world of good to find someone to love and share his life with,
someone that wouldn't just call or send him letters instead of someone that
truly loves him. I looked at David and said; now you are learning my son;
sometimes people are just misguided in their lives.

  Everything was going very good for Jenny and Clyde, David and Clyde were
getting along great and both were learning to put trust in one another, it
had been 5-1/2 months since Clyde had met Jenny at the lunch room. He asked
Micah if he would ever be allowed to ask Jenny to be joined with him after
he finished his sentence.

  Micah said; Clyde according to our laws after you have been courting a
young Mennonite Lady for 6 months and if her family and the Elder approves
of the intended joining you may ask for her hand on that date, which will
be in about 2-1/2 weeks. Clyde couldn't believe his ears, suddenly he
realized and asked; where would we live at sir, I live at the dorms and she
with her mother. I said; not to worry young man we have that covered for
the two of you when the time comes.

  But at this minute we have a meeting to get to by the order of the court
young man. Clyde said; yes Sir I'm ready when you are. We left for the
meeting, during the meeting I received a call from Micah, I grabbed Clyde
and said; we must leave now and get to the clinic. I told the program
director there was a family emergency and we must get to the medical clinic
I took her aside and whispered why I needed Clyde to return with me she
understood and we left.

  By the time we arrived at the clinic Micah's truck was going to need a
bit of front end work. We arrived at the clinic and David came out to meet
us he was covered in blood, Jenny's blood. She's hurt bad Poppa he hurt her
very bad, he turned to Clyde and said; we got her here as fast as we could
Andy, Eve and Ivan are working on her now Daddy hasn't left her side, her
Mom is in the States on a visit to her folks and we can't reach her. When
Clyde realized that it was Jenny he was speaking of he went to his knees
and hollered out NO. I grabbed his arm and said; you get your shit together
boy she needs you to be very strong, you must be her rock. We were in the
waiting area when Micah stepped out, he hugged me and said; I'm glad you
made it lets have a seat we all need to talk. Clyde asked how is she doing,
is she going to be okay sir. She's in bad shape Clyde I won't lie to you,
she has internal trauma, a broken arm, some broken ribs and he cut her face
and body with a box cutter. He left the weapon and plenty of DNA which Andy
is collecting as evidence, Eve contacted a friend from the states who is a
plastic surgeon, she is on her way along with a collogue of hers to Belize
so they can assess Jenny's injuries.

  But the worst case is, Jenny isn't on any kind of birth control and she
may now be carrying her attackers child adding to her problems, and if she
is our faith prevents her from taking anything for rid her of it. Clyde
turned white in the face and sat there. He became angry and asked; does
anyone know what he looks like. Micah responded; Clay is reviewing the
video surveillance system now and will send the police a copy on anything
he finds, by this time Rob, Joe, Galen and Beth had arrived and heard what
Micah was saying. Clyde responded no disrespect Sir but fuck the police, if
I find him I will castrate the bastard and feed him his own balls for
lunch, and then I will carve his face up with a box cutter. After I'm
through with him I will dump his ass in front of the police station so he
can spend his life in prison being someone's bitch. David said; I will help
you, Joe, Rob and Galen said to count them in also.

  Micah said; boys we can't hear any more of what you have planned for
Jenny's rapist. Andy walked out and said; Jenny is resting at this time she
was asking if Clyde had arrived yet, Poppa will you go in with him Eve is
waiting for both of you. David and I helped steady Clyde when he saw Jenny
for the first time. Jenny started to cry and said; she was sorry for what
happened. Clyde said; Jenny you did nothing wrong baby, you were the victim
he attacked you, don't blame yourself. He will pay for his actions; that is
my promise to you here and now. He gently kissed her lips and told her he
loved her and to rest, he would see her in a little while.

 We walked into the waiting room and Clyde went to his knees and cried,
Beth hugged him and said; we are here for the two of you, he thanked Beth
for her support.

   David said; Daddy we will be back in a little while, will you and Poppa
stay with Jenny until we get back. David, Joe, Rob, Galen and Clyde got
into Bertha Lou and headed to the plant to see if Clay had found out
anything about Jenny's attacker. When they arrived at Clay's office he had
already found her attacker's photo before, during and after the attack even
what kind of vehicle he was driving, he had copies running on the printers
and faxed copies to all local business to post at their stores and even
copies were sent to all elders that had faxes to distribute amongst
them. This piece of trash would be found.

  As Clyde looked at man's face on the photo he was filled with an
all-consuming rage, Joe hugged his cousin and said; he will pay for what he
has done to Jenny. Clyde said; I can't let any of you get in trouble over
what I will do to this monster. David responded; we are family Clyde and
family watches out for one another. Clyde thanked David for his support.

   From the doorway Anne cleared her throat and said; boy's I hope you
don't think you get to have all of the fun, when we find him part of him
belongs to me. And she held up a shiny knife and said; I'm ready to find
out if this thing is sharp.

  Clay's phone rang, he answered and spoke to the party on the other end,
yes elder I understand are you sure, he had what. Ok we will wait for you
and I will cut off the surveillance system so there's no record of you
arriving.

  Clyde he has been located and they are bringing him here to us. Are they
sure Clay that it's really him?  Yes, Clyde he had her panties as a trophy
