The Mennonite - The next Generation 3

The next few days were a period of adjustment for everyone, not only David
but for a very nice redheaded young man too. Galen was coming by to check
on him at home and at the learning center also. Beth thought that something
was up Galen was nervous and on edge, we spoke to Adam and Izaack to see if
he had said anything to them about what was going on with him, they had no
idea either. I casually asked David if everything was ok him, and it seemed
he had made a new friend. He said; he was very happy and he loved everyone
here especially his best friend the big man with the neat red hair.

Micah and I discussed the growing attachment between the two and decided
that we needed to talk with Galen to find out what was going on between the
two. I contacted Galen and asked if he could come by the house this
afternoon, to which he responded yes Poppa I will be there.

I had arranged for Adam and Beth to take David for ice cream at WD in
S.L. so we would have some privacy. As Micah and I waited for Galen to
arrive all sorts of things were running through our minds, there was a
knock at the door I knew was Galen. Micah called out for him to come
inside, as he entered the house I instructed Galen to sit down saying that
we believed that he needed to talk to us about something.

 Galen hung his head and said that he was sorry, he didn't mean for it to
happen but it did. Micah scooted up to the edge of his chair and said;
didn't mean for what to happen Galen Scott.

Galen then poured his heart and soul out to us, 26 years of hurt and pain
came rushing out. When you two told us about David and what he had been
through it brought back so many painfully memories from my childhood about
me, I decided that I could never let him go through what I did when I was
young again. Micah asked; what happened Galen, please tell us if you will
son. Before I came here to live with the moms I was in a bad place and for
as long as I can remember they hurt me and they let others hurt me really
bad.

 I was nothing to them but a redheaded freak for them to pass around to
their friends to use as they saw fit and the moms reminded me of that every
day, how I could go back there if I acted up and they would start hurting
me again.

 I have lived my whole life in fear, but since you two took me under your
wing I truly understand what love is. When Adam came to school that day in
his new pink camo overalls I was so jealous of him, what made him so
special and why did you love him so much so I lashed out at him.

 But when you spoke to me that day in your office Poppa, I realized that
people do love their kids even though they are sometimes different. I will
never allow anyone to haunt David by calling him a freak or trying to hurt
him again, I'm sorry if I was out of line. Micah got out of his chair and
walked up to Galen and hugged him close and said; Galen we love you and
don't you ever change a bit son, you watch out for the safety of your
family and protect them.

 Galen wiped the tears from is eyes and I gave him a tissue for his
nose. It wasn't a moment too soon in the front door bounded a little bundle
of energy, he headed in a bee line to Galen jumped in his lap hugging his
neck and asked; how's my friend with the neat red hair. How did you get it
that color? Galen spoke; the angels gave it to me from heaven because God
told them to David. Well I like it because it makes you look beautiful
said; David.

Micah and I were relaxing at the house three days later when a frantic Beth
called and said; they have Galen in handcuffs and there is a man on the
ground hurt real bad, David is screaming at the cops I need help, we're at
S.O.'s in town please hurry.

Micah and I flew out the door we ran to the truck he hollered at Izaiah
that there was trouble in town with the kids to follow us; we left out of
the driveway so fast, Micah turned onto the roadway on two wheels he drove
to S.L. as fast as the truck would go. I said; slow down a little Micah we
don't want to have a wreck or blow an engine to which he responded "Fuck
the damned Truck my children need me".

As we flew into the parking lot we came to a sliding halt throwing rocks
everywhere Micah slung the driver's door open so fast he bent it around to
the front fender.

He hollered out where are my children. Through the crowd came David running
in to his arms. An upset David was crying and said; Galen hit the bad man
and they put metal things on his arms and made him sit on the ground.

 As we approached the crowd that was gathered around the area they let us
in, David wiggled out of his daddy's arms and ran to Galen latching himself
to his neck.

Beth came running up to me and said; I only stopped to look at some flowers
and it turned around and Galen hit a man in the face so hard he went flying
through the air, he's hurt really bad Poppa what do we do. Just let your
Daddy handle this matter baby girl and I hugged her close.

 We walked to where Galen was seated on the ground he looked up and said;
I'm sorry but when he said what he did about David I just reacted, I know
you said to call you and you two would handle it, but I lost my temper and
hit the piece of garbage, by this time other members from the community had
arrived.

 Micah said; tell the officer what the man said that caused you to protect
you little brother in such a way Galen and make sure others hear it also so
the word can be spread throughout.

 I was holding David's hand and walking with him, he approached me and
asked if when I was through him and if he wasn't stretched out to bad, he
could have a go with him because he had the tightest ass he had ever fucked
and he had fucked David many a time before so I hit him, I'm sorry Daddy.

The officer in charge ordered the cuffs be removed from Galen's wrist, he
went to the bleeding man who laid on the ground and spit on him and said;
we have a very special place for men like you and laughed a sinister laugh.

 Galen stood up and placed David on his shoulders and announced; this is my
little brother and his name is David and if you mess with him, just
remember you'll have to deal with me.

 Then Galen walked through the crowd towards the truck carrying David upon
his shoulders high. Micah the caring person that he is asked the Officer in
charge if the man was badly hurt, which surprised the officer and he said;
maybe a broken jaw, nose and possibly check bone but he would heal but once
he gets to jail, but he was sure that his asshole wouldn't be the same as
long as he was locked up in jail and he laughed again while walking off.

 Micah returned to the truck where I was waiting for him, he attempted to
close his broken door and it fell onto the ground, I laughed at him. Micah
just smiled picked up the door and tossed it into the bed of the truck, he
turned around and hollered to Gunther; I'll be in town to pick up a new
mega cab in the morning and I've got you a great truck to sell for
me. Gunther and everyone around him busted out laughing at Micah's comment,
Micah sat in the driver's seat put on his seatbelt and said; let's got I
believe we've had enough excitement for one day.

 I said; only if you stop by WD and pick up 4 gallons of ice cream to take
home. As we pulled up to the drive thru window the young girl at the window
said; I see you remodeled your truck Elder Micah looks real sharp and
laughed. She returned to the window with our order and handed it to Micah
and told him to have a great day, Micah asked how much do I owe you? To
which she replied its complements of WD, for your family keeping our
children safe from harm. Micah thanked her and drove off as we pulled onto
the roadway Micah said; maybe Galen should knock a few more people out
maybe Gunther would just give me a new truck, to which we both laughed.

We arrived at our house to a crowd of people gathered as Micah and I got
out of the truck one by one they thanked us for our family keeping their
children safe. Micah spoke saying; the true protector is a great young man
of our Community and a person I have the honor calling my son who was
protecting his little brother from harm.

So the next time you see Galen Scott tell him yourself, but at this time
please honor a request for some time alone with my family and he walked
towards the house carrying his ice cream. I thanked them and followed
Micah, my husband into our home to be with our family.

As we entered the house Galen sat on the sofa, he was beside himself; be
busted out saying I'm sorry please don't be mad at me for hitting that man
but what he said about David made me sick to my stomach.

Micah spoke up and said; Galen Scott don't you ever apologize for standing
up for others who are weaker than you are, and never apologize for watching
out for this family and protecting them from those who would cause them
pain; I'm proud of all of my children, but at this time I couldn't any
prouder of the great man and protector that you have become in such a short
time. We are proud and blessed to be your parent's son, we love you.

Now this ice cream is going to melt if we don't get started eating it so
who wants to get bowls and spoons, David hollered I'll get spoons, Beth
announced bowls are on me. Well with that settled Micah that leaves the
three boys to clean up when we're finished. Adam, Izaack and Galen said yes
sir. Aren't kid's great they will pick up the slack when prompted correctly
said; Micah smiling at me with his megawatt smile? Whatever you big
goofball and we both laughed.

The next morning there was a knock at the front door, I answered it and
there stood an officer he asked if he could come so I showed him in. Once
inside he told Micah and me that the magistrate wanted to see us along with
Galen in his office at 11:00 am the man was filing charges of assault
causing bodily harm. Micah said; we'll be there officer along with Galen
and David. Micah called Galen and told what was up and to be at our house
at 10:00 so we could take the van to the office.

We arrived at the Magistrate's office and entered She listened to what
Happened from Galen, she could hardly compose herself as David recounted
the things that the man had done to him in the past and that his big
brother was just protecting him from the mean man. Micah and I along with
the officer in charge could hardly believe what all David had to endure at
the hands of that monster. She looked at Galen and thanked him for
protecting his brother from a person that meant him harm and dismissed the
complaint against him. We left the office and headed to the house but he
remembered and said that he had to stop at Gunther's.

What's your favorite color David to which he responded BLUE, well then blue
it will be? We pulled into Gunther's to pick up a new truck and in front
was a brand new Ford Ranger crew cab sitting there. David hollered out
that's it there is your new truck daddy and it's blue. We got out and
looked at it was loaded to the max 3.2l diesel automatic 4x4 pw, pb, ps,
pdl, tilt, cruise, cd. Gunther stepped out of the office and said; it just
arrived and several people have looked at it already Micah. Well responded
Micah they looked but I'm buying it today, write it up and call the bank,
tell them how much they need to transfer to cover the deal. Gunther tossed
Micah the keys and said; take it home they have already serviced it out and
it's full of fuel I'll notify you insurance company.

Galen will you take the van home and when you get there clean out my old
truck, drive it over to Ryman's and see what it will cost for them to
repair it for you, then Take it to Caribbean Tire for service and new
tires. He said; yes sir I'll carry your truck for repairs estimate and
service.

Micah counted 1,2,3,4,5,6; suddenly Galen stopped in his tracks and turned
around and said; you meant to say they needed to repair it for you didn't
you. No Son, Micah responded; it's your truck now. Galen ran to Micah and
bear hugged him and lifted him off of the ground saying; thank you, thank
you, and thank you. Galen; I can't breathe let down you big goober. Oh I'm
so sorry I was just excited my first vehicle oh boy. I said; you made his
day don't you know that Micah.
