It is decision time for me. I am going to take a break for the Christmas
season and January. Then I have to decide.

Let me know if you think that I should continue with the story or leave it
as it is. I could use Chapter 18 as my last in this story. The guys are
together and settling into their jobs. They have connected with Timothy's
family. All is well in their lives. I do have ideas for expanding the story
but sometimes it is wise to finish. Let me know.

Greetings and Thanks

Again thanks to all who have been so supportive over the entire length of
this story. I think that I have replied to all your emails. I hope everyone
has a very special holiday season and to others or to all, a Merry, Happy
Christmas with friends and family.

Previously

The rest of the day went well. He and Heather spent some really good time
together in Jeremy's office where the documents were spread out in Jeremy
chaos. They accomplished a lot; all of which went into Jeremy's daily log.

The kiss to Timothy when he arrived home was more than passionate. On the
spot, Dr Malenfant offered some tension relief to his guy. It started right
in the kitchen. Clothes were soon lying on the floor. They kissed. Tension
filled objects found their way into moist mouths. With a look of love on
his face, Timothy sat on a kitchen chair and invited Jeremy to sit on his
lap. To his surprise, or so he said, his object of tension immediately
ended up surrounded in a hot, tight tube. Jeremy's eyes were closed as he
let the sensuous feelings spread through his body.

Jeremy stopped Timothy and he leaned over and kissed him. As he kissed him,
one hand started to caress Timothy's nipples and the other reached behind
to finger his balls. Timothy was quite vocal and started to move again hard
and fast in and out of his lover. They stopped several times to touch, feel
and kiss each other until Jeremy could not hold back any longer and he
exploded all over Timothy's chest. Timothy followed with a very vocal
description of what was happening to him. Jeremy could feel the pulses and
his change of rhythm as he finished.

They had a a late supper dressed only in shorts with lots of herding by
Jeremy. Jeremy did a bit more work on the case until Timothy came and
closed off his computer and made him file his documents. For some reason,
they didn't go to sleep immediately and it was Jeremy lying on the bed with
legs over Timothy's back as they finished again. At some point, Jeremy told
him his password and amazingly, Timothy remembered it the next morning at
breakfast telling Jeremy that he was a good at multitasking. They had a
good laugh remembering when Jeremy had told him the password and what they
were doing at that precise moment. Incongruous would be a good description.

Present

Jeremy had made some very definite progress in the previous afternoon with
Heather and later that night at home before Timothy had forced him to shut
down his computer. He wasn't complaining about that. What a guy!

He wanted to share his progress with Heather and get ready for the meeting
at 9. He wanted to hear what she thought; she had added a lot to the
case. He grabbed a coffee and headed for her office.

He slowed up as he approached hearing slightly raised voices. "I hope you
know whose side that you are on. He just thinks that he is some hot shot. I
don't know who he thinks he is accusing me of going into his office.

"Well did you?"

"Yeah just to see if he made any progress. I thought that we were a team."

"What would you say if he went into your office, went through your papers
and tried to access you computer?"

"So he has told you."

"No, he told me yesterday that he knew that someone was doing it and he
couldn't go out for lunch because he wanted to see if he was right. He
didn't mention any names. Guess he caught you in flagrante."

"Don't smile at me with your cute little Latin phrases."

Heather interrupted him. "William, I have a lot of work. Remember that you
chose to work with Kenneth ... as usual. I am enjoying working with Jeremy
and he will be here shortly. I have some things to do. You deal with him
not with me. We have a case to solve and Jeremy is pretty bright with a lot
of good ideas."

"Just watch it Heather!"

"Don't try the intimidation routine on me again. Things have changed around
here. I finally feel like I am part of this office!"

Jeremy hustled quickly around a corner when he heard William start to come
out of her office, then he turned around and walked back around that
corner. "Morning, William. See you at 9. Heather and I have some work to do
for the meeting."

William mumbled something about having to meet with Kenneth.

When Jeremy entered, she was still angry. Jeremy gave her a cheery, "Good
morning." He paused and gave her a sympathetic smile. "I heard most of
it. I didn't want him to know that I heard. So I left the area, just as he
came out of your office. Thank you. I am enjoying working with you. You are
pretty bright yourself, you know. Where did you place in your class?"

"Second but it wasn't forensics."

"You have the instinct for it. You are good. I think that William saw
himself as third man in the department after the Boss and Peter and he is
feeling the pressure. Tough. Now I had some thoughts last night. I really
feel that we are getting somewhere with this case."

He was impressed with what Heather had analyzed and he told her his
thoughts in detail. He had some figures and a small graph that he had
created as hand outs. She was impressed with his work. They planned a
strategy for the meeting. Again, saving some of the important material for
after they and all the others had presented their thoughts.

Jeremy told her that he still wanted to put William in his place but he was
prepared to give credit if it were due. After a lot of thought yesterday
and last night, he realized that having an enemy in the office was not good
for the team or the firm. He had smiled realizing that he had ownership in
the firm. Now that would rock William. He really did know that he had a
tightrope to walk. So he told himself to be careful and smart.

He had made it clear to William that he knew what he had done in his office
and said in the staff lounge He had said in no uncertain terms that it was
to stop. Now somehow he had to forge some kind of a better relationship
with the guy. He let Heather know that he might do some things and say some
things at the meeting that would try to draw William into the group in a
better way. However, he assured her that she was an equal if not more in
the group. She seemed pleased. He made one last suggestion to her. She
liked it.

They gathered with their coffee and papers. Peter led off with a fairly
upbeat tone. He asked Heather to go over her work. She did an excellent
job. Then he asked William. He did have some good insights. Jeremy handed
out his graphs and figures and gave a fairly detailed description of the
direction that he saw that the case was going. When he ended, he asked for
any comments.

Peter looked around the room. "It sounds as if we are getting
somewhere. William you look as if you want to say something."

He had obviously listened carefully to what had been said and drew some
relevant conclusions. Jeremy spoke up saying that he thought that William
was right on. William looked surprised at his positive comment. Jeremy then
went on to elaborate on William's direction and then Heather spoke up
adding her thoughts. Even Kenneth then added some last comments.

Jeremy looked at each member of the team and finally at Peter. "You know I
think that we have just proved the old idea that synergy works. Everybody
has added a lot to this case. Can I make a suggestion? " Peter nodded
yes. "Peter, I think that we are close to making a preliminary report to
the CFO of the company. We should come up with a plan or an outline to work
on. We could present it to the CFO at some point next week. I think that we
are ready and that would more than meet our time lines."

Peter nodded his head in a yes. He reiterated what he had said about the
great input everyone had made.

As the meeting seemed to be ending, Heather spoke up as she and Jeremy had
agreed. "You know, we have never done what I am going to suggest but we
have worked hard this week. It's Friday, I would like to go for a quick
drink after work with the team. It doesn't have to be long. If you were
planning on meeting someone, then ask them along. I'll ask my boyfriend to
join me as we are planning on supper out." Jeremy spoke up and said that it
was a great idea and he would invite his partner along as they had plans as
well. He didn't add that they were going for some hot, sexy dancing at the
club.

Jeremy went back to his office. The synergy of the meeting had given him
some ideas and he worked on those for a couple of hours. He was kneeling on
the floor searching for a document that now seemed more important than
before.

He heard a little chuckle from the door way. It was David. "Can I come and
not interrupt some brilliant thought?"

"Actually, I am on to something but I found what I was looking for. I hope
you don't mind the mess." He chuckled as he looked around his office.

David shut the door. "I know that your messes usually work out. Peter has
had a little talk with me about the case and other things. He feels that
there has been a change in the office since Monday morning. Paula has said
some very complimentary things about a new guy in the office." He smiled at
Jeremy. "I am so glad to have you back. Would you go over the idea of a
preliminary report with me?"

Jeremy did in detail and volunteered to start it that afternoon and over
the weekend. David saw his line of reasoning and immediately agreed but
with the proviso that he and Peter wanted to see it first and possibly
change it."

"David, I meant it. You are the boss and have done incredible things with
this department. We have a really good staff. It is your call."

He nodded his thanks. "I have heard some grumbling about one member."

"I am working on it, positively. Oh, I chewed him out the other day about a
couple of things that he did to me at the beginning of the week but I don't
want an enemy; we need a working team. He has talent; it just needs to be
acknowledged and channelled. I don't want him as a best friend but as a
good, working colleague. We have a member of staff who has been shunted to
the side and she is bright. I am working on that too. You OK with that?"

"Keep me posted." He started to chuckle. "You sound like Jamie."

"Highest compliment you could give me. Learned from the best and I include
you and Philipo. Thanks for coming in and talking. I did want to get some
of that off my chest."

"Whose idea was it to go out for drinks?"

"Who suggested it?"

"Jeremy, I like your style. By the way, I would love to come for drinks but
I'll let you guys go by yourselves. They don't need the boss there. Anyway,
Mark and I have an invitation out and it would be a bit of a challenge to
work everything in. Don't work all weekend. Timothy ... won't ... want
that. You can finish it on Monday on company time."

"Right Boss, good counsel."

David looked at his watch. "Damn, another meeting. Keep it up."

"Oh nothing will stop me from keeping it up."

David left shaking his head with a big smile and a muttered 'still a horny
bugger'.

Jeremy sat for a few minutes to reflect and plan how he would proceed with
a preliminary report. Eventually, he started up a new document on his
computer and over the next hour established headings that he would
use. Under several headings, he would put in comments and document names.

By the time he looked at the clock, Heather was at the door asking him if
wanted to go for lunch. He agreed if it were quick. He asked her to close
the door. He outlined his conversation with David and asked her if she
wanted to help. He had already decided that he would ask Peter to present
the report as his document but he would give Heather credit for the work
she did. She looked so pleased to be asked and he told her what he would do
with the document.

They worked the afternoon until it was time to leave. They had managed to
put together a rough draft of the report that looked comprehensive. They
had a great time working as a team. He showed her how he always did a
report with a page or two summary of the main points and recommendation in
bullet point form. He told her that it always cleared his mind that often
made him make changes to the main report for absolute clarity. So far, all
clients had found it really helpful.

"Now off for some drinks and socializing."

Everyone was there. Peter said that he had to leave fairly early. Jeremy
had decided to sit near William and he would get Timothy to sit near
Kenneth. He wanted Heather close to Peter. He felt that he should get to
know her better. They were siting talking when Heather waved to someone
across the room. He was a big athletic fellow, probably 6'2 or 6'3. Strong,
good looking, good build. Jeremy bet to himself that he played hockey.

There were introductions all around and he sat down beside Heather. A few
minutes later, Jeremy looked around and saw his guy enter looking,
searching the room. Jeremy smiled and waved. Timothy gave him one of his
wonderful smiles back. As he walked over, Heather leaned over. "You look at
him exactly the way yo do when you talk to him on the phone. Your eyes
light up and your face glows."

Jeremy looked around the table. "OK, people. On your best behaviour, we
have a lawyer at the table. Want you to meet Timothy."

Timothy gave him a disgusted look. "You know you are no different than
me. Well in one way different. You spend hours on end reading over
booooring statistics to find thieves and felons. We spend hours going over
the interesting, finer points of the law trying to convict the ones you
send to us. It is all up to us lawyers to get the job done. So no lawyer
comments, SIR."

Peter looking at Jeremy and then Timothy, "Guess you have been put in your
place. Welcome Timothy, we need someone to reign him in."

He gave Jeremy a smouldering look. "Oh, I'll reign him in."

Everyone chuckled at the double meaning, even William was smiling. Jeremy
got up and brought back a good micro brewed beer for his guy and sat back
with William. There was conversation all around the table. Jeremy could see
Timothy in conversation with Kenneth and it was animated. Heather, Robert
and Peter were laughing at something.

He started a conversation with William. It was little stilted and reserved
for a while. However, they both liked sports but William was a hockey
player and played in a league. They discussed the difference in the two
sports and why each liked their chosen one giving each the occasional dig
about the others sport. The stiffness started to ebb. William seemed to be
impressed with Jeremy's team in the city and his performance at
university. William had a girlfriend who couldn't make it to the pub
today. They talked for quite a while and it was clear that they were seeing
each other in a different way. Jeremy felt that he had smoothed some of the
ruffled feathers. They had another round and as they finished, people
started to leave for other engagements.

Jeremy spoke up. "Heather thanks for the suggestion. I enjoyed meeting
everyone in a different setting. We'll have to do it more often." There
was a lot of agreements. Heather looked pleased. Timothy signalled him to
come over to him and Kenneth.

"Kenneth plays football and would like to come out to see and perhaps play
with the team tomorrow."

To Jeremy that was a great bonus to the evening. "Come in your kit. Give us
a try. Does he know who the great leader of the team is?"

"Yeah, he says that he can put up with you."

"I didn't say that!"

"I know. He is trying to make trouble for me as usual." Eyes narrowed, "You
are in big trouble later."

Timothy smirked and with an almost sultry voice, "I can only hope."

"You guys are too much. See you tomorrow. Have a good night."

In the same voice as Timothy. "Thanks. Believe me ... we shall."

The three left chuckling. Jeremy desperately wanted to put his hand over
his guys shoulder and pull him close but it was a hetero pub and he figured
discretion was the better route. They might want to use it again another
Friday after work. Instead, he gave Timothy thanks for coming and an
amiable shoulder bump.

They had a great night of hot, sexy dancing and an even hotter night when
they arrived home. They had a good end of the week.

The next week was the week before the Labour Day weekend and a trip to the
chalet with the family. It was going to be a busy week. In addition,
Timothy started in his new position at his firm on Tuesday after Labour
Day.

Peter and David made changes to the interim report which they had Jeremy
look at and approve. He suggested a few changes. Peter presented it at a
meeting on Tuesday afternoon. Peter presented it as his and David's report
and Peter was able to give praise all around to every member of the team
for the hard work meeting their time lines. Before the meeting, Peter had
given a quiet, special thanks to Jeremy. They had had a meeting with the
CFO and unknown to the rest of the team, Jeremy was asked to attend it with
David and Peter. His knowledge and insights were impressive. They worked
the rest of the week on producing a final report along the lines that the
CFO suggested. The CFO was very pleased with the work The Accountants had
done.

Again, Jeremy realized how important that their work was for the
firm. Their department was gaining a good reputation and he hoped that he
would help with that growth.

There was a short boisterous get together after work before the long
weekend at the pub. Jeremy watched with pleasure how the group had melded
together. He was impressed with William's girlfriend as he had another good
session with William and Karen, the girlfriend. Everyone heard Kenneth's
enthusiastic account of his playing with Jeremy and Timothy's football
team. Jeremy felt that he had had a good first two weeks with his return to
The Accountants.

He and Timothy left for the chalet immediately after the pub picking up
Chinese food to take with them and Jeremy had bought a good bottle of
German Riesling.

Timothy looked at him as they put the food in the car. "You planning on
having your evil way with me. Looks like the same menu and wine."

"Yep." His smile could have lit up the city. He reached over and kissed his
guy.

After they were outside the city, Timothy looked at Jeremy who was
driving. "You looked so happy at the pub tonight. You made the right
choice, didn't you?"

"You know, the first day and part of the second were awful except for
meeting Heather. I was on edge for a lot of that week. But I thought it
through and made some simple decisions and it has worked out. I was so glad
that I kept my last name off the table and they have just gotten to know me
for who I am as a person. I don't care now when my name comes out." He
paused. "I hope that you know that it is so wonderful having you there with
me, in my life. Can hardy express how much it means to me."

"Maybe you can start telling me in one way after supper, on the porch, when
the sun goes down. I remember ...."

"Don't know if I can last that long." He gave Timothy his 100 watt smile
and put his hand on his thigh. "You know, that is only a small part of it,
a great part, but not even close to the whole package." His hand gently
stroked Timothy's face.

Jeremy figured it was time to find out how his guy was feeling about his
promotion. "Tell me how you feel about your change coming on Tuesday. I
know that you have given it a lot of thought. When does the head start his
leave?"

"Like you, a bit nervous with anticipation. I know how I want to set up my
office and a couple of things I want to buy for it out of my own pocket. I
have done a lot of reading on same sex law and issues. I know instinctively
how to approach couples. Our picture is on my desk and that should help. I
am going to face it partially towards the front of my desk, unlike some
person I know, so my clients can see it.." Timothy gave him a big smile.

"The head starts his leave at the end of the third week of September. So I
guess a time to fit in and get myself comfortable with the office and the
staff there. They haven't been told that the head is taking a leave but
they do know that I have been made assistant head. There might be ruffled
feathers like William's."

"I know how well you will deal with it. I have seen your take charge
side. You are smart and strong. Please don't hold back from letting me know
if there is something bothering you. I sure unloaded on you in the last
couple of week. You might need Dr. M&M for some tension relief."

"Oh yeah, I'll remember that as a promise."

They reached the turn off to the lane into the chalet. "Just a minute, did
I see lights on at the chalet?"

As they went over the little rise, "Damn, there is mom and dad's car. I
thought that they were coming up tomorrow. That changes your plans for
tonight."

"We'll manage. I can be very devious about such things." Raising his
eyebrows, "So can you."

"Hi Mom, thought that you were coming up tomorrow. We only brought enough
food for ourselves but there is a bottle of cold Riesling in the cooler."

"We could only arrange for a delivery today; so we came up for that. We
have eaten but a glass of Riesling would be really nice out on the porch."

He thought to himself about Riesling on the porch. His thought was 'so
would Jeremy naked on the porch with a glass of Riesling be even
nicer'. "Can't wait Mom."

They brought in the food first and then arrived with their travel
suitcases. "We'll just put these in my room. Then the wine."

"No why don't you use the bigger guest room down the hall. It will be more
comfortable."

Timothy shrugged his shoulders. It was a nice room. It was bigger and it
too had a small bed which was slightly more comfortable than his. Nice move
on his mom's part. Timothy carried his suitcase with Jeremy just behind
him. Timothy stopped dead in the doorway muttering, 'I don't believe
it'. Jeremy looked over his shoulder. There was a beautiful queen size bed
freshly made with a magnificent quilt on top of it.

"Mom!"

"Oh the quilt is yours to take back home for the winter and spring. By the
way, it was your dad's idea to buy the bed and it could only be delivered
today. That is why we came early."

He turned to Jeremy and gave him a hug. "I have to find dad."

After a tearful thank you to his mother, Timothy ran down to the
dock. Jeremy could see Mr. M turn towards Timothy. Before he could even
speak, Timothy bounded up and gave him a huge hug. There were smiles and
animated talk between the two. Timothy again touched his father's shoulder
as the two walked up to the chalet.

Jeremy went up to him, said "Good to see you". Then he leaned over to him
and said in almost a whisper, "You have no idea how much that means to
Timothy. Thank you so much." Jeremy realized yet again that it was often
the little actions or deeds that people did that could mean so much.

Mom and dad had eaten and simply tasted some of the food that the guys had
brought. They all shared some of the German Riesling. Timothy was really
relieved when his father only took a very small amount and sipped it
slowly. He had obviously talked to his doctor and was listening to him. It
was not the night that either guy had planned but in some ways it was
better. They chatted and read and finally all agreed that it had been a
long week and they went to bed.

As soon as they entered their room, Timothy, "I tried the bed earlier. It
doesn't make any noise. So not what you had planned but ...." He wiggled
his eyebrows with a lecherous smile.

"I'll settle for this. We get to try out the new bed." Jeremy sat on
it. "Comfortable." He lay down. "I think that I could just fall asleep
right now."

Suddenly there was big, hunk of a guy lying on him almost literally taking
his breath away. Talking quietly but intensely, "Not a chance of sleep
right now. If I remember, you had plans for me much like I had for you when
we last came up on a Friday evening."

He could feel Jeremy rising to the occasion beneath him. Timothy scrambled
off, held out his hands and pulled Jeremy to his feet. Timothy reached over
and turned on the table lamp and quickly turned off the overhead light. The
room glowed in a soft, yellow light highlighting Jeremy's skin
colour. Clothes were quickly on the floor as the guys looked at and then
touched each other. It was not the same as that first Friday night but who
was really comparing. Several times they had to remind each other that
silence was important again this time. Sound does travel in old chalets.

They were up fairly early and when mom and dad arrived, coffee was ready as
was a really good continental breakfast with boiled eggs, toast with butter
and jam, a small piece of cheese and thick slice of ham cut from a cooked
ham that guys had brought for breakfast and lunches. It was September so
they dressed up a bit and took breakfast on the porch taking in the lovely
morning sun glinting on the calm lake. It was magnificent. Both guys again
realized that this was almost better than what they had planned.

The guys did a bit of work around the chalet getting it ready for a closing
up later in October. Jeremy and Timothy had talked about suggesting that
they and close family spend Thanksgiving at the chalet. Exact details would
have to be arranged if the Malenfants thought that it was a good idea.

Their work was interrupted by the arrival of MC, Pierre and Luc. It was
chaos as yet another load of groceries, wine and beer and suitcases were
brought into the chalet. Lunch was not the quiet sedate affair that
breakfast had been.

Timothy took Jeremy out for his last water skiing of the year. He gave him
elaborate instructions on two manoeuvres that he wanted him to try. He fell
on the first try of the first one but then succeeded brilliantly on the
next two attempts. The second one was more difficult but by that time, he
was in a groove and performed it beautifully twice. Timothy had told his
parents what he was going to do and they were at the dock when they come
in.

Jeremy had a huge smile on his face. Proud of what he had done.

Mr. M, "Jeremy that was terrific. I don't think that I have seen anyone
take to water skiing like you. "

Timothy's mother's move was even more demonstrative. She was over in a
flash and hugged him whispering, "You are such an addition to our
family. Wonderful."

Supper was delicious. Everyone joined in an uproarious game of cards in
which partners challenged partners. It was a great family night.

That night the guys gave the bed yet another try out as they started on
their knees and ended up with Jeremy partially on his side with Timothy on
his side in him. It was a wild ride with both guys muffling their responses
to Timothy's rather energetic performance. In fact, when Timothy had
finished realizing that his partner had not, he had turned Jeremy on his
back and with a finger in him, he had sucked him to an incredible
finish. Jeremy had grabbed him and held him for minutes not wanting to talk
but to savour what they had done.

Sunday was the day the boat was to be taken down to the marina. Timothy had
told his father in no uncertain terms that he and Jeremy would to it and
his father was to enjoy the wonderful day. After lunch on a glorious
September day, they drove two cars to the Marina leaving one there. They
set out for the 30 minute boat ride. It was obvious that his father liked
the fact that the two guys had insisted that they do it. He still sometimes
felt a bit tired in the afternoon. He had done the run for years; he now
knew that his son was just as able he was.

About half way there, Jeremy felt the boat slow down as they headed into a
sheltered bay with no chalets on it and Timothy shut the motor off.

"Why are you stopping?

"For you. You suggested some alternatives to a hot, sexy, dirty weekend."
He gave him a challenging look.

"Right here? I was suggesting a secluded beach."

"Who can see us if we move back into the boat? The top is up and the
windows don't really have a lot of visibility. I'll put the anchor out and
people will just think that we are enjoying time on the lake."

Jeremy smiled at his guy. "Have you ever done this with anyone?"

"Are you kidding. It is you who brings out the best in me."

Again but his time with an ironic smile, "It may be the best but I suspect
that it is the beast in you."

Chuckling. "Lover, whatever it is, it is you. Come here with me. I agree it
is not just the physical but the whole package but right now, I know what I
want, no need. You, my parents ... oh damn, it is like a dream become
real."

Timothy's eyes were moist and Jeremy had learned that meant that his guy
was very emotional. Jeremy pulled him close. "OK."

And so they made love in the boat on the lake with gentle waves against the
hull of the boat. The boat rocked slightly adding to all the sensations
that swirled through them. They started with Jeremy sitting in one of the
seats with Timothy riding him with the rhythms that he needed and then
Timothy sat as Jeremy impaled himself in one quick motion. Both made up for
the quiet mode of the last two nights. They stopped and told each where
they needed to be touched or stroked. They stayed still just revelling in
the feelings and the closeness. They laughed, they moaned, they cried out,
they told each other how much they meant to the other. Finally, they could
hold back no longer and they finished just 30 seconds apart.

Then, there were no words spoken. There were quiet looks and soft touches
that said that all was well with their world.

They had to make up a lot excuses for their late arrival back at the
chalet. They were very convincing.

Sunday night was as much fun and just as noisy. After a good breakfast the
next morning, Mr. M invited everyone to the front porch.

"Your mother and I have made some decisions that we want to discuss with
you as a family. Glad to have an accountant with the family now." Timothy
closed his eyes and said several silent thank yous to his dad.

"We would like to sell the cottage to you. I have talked it over with my
investment consultant and lawyer; they suggest an evaluation and that would
be the sale price. Before you get upset, I would pay off the loan by a
lawful amount each year and pay the taxes. We would want our usual access
for us, friends and family. We can coordinate our use as usual."

There was an eruption of questions and thank yous. They talked it through
and Jeremy validated everything that Mr. M said.

"On another matter, we gave MC and Pierre some money towards purchasing
their house a few years back. I have here two cheques. Timothy, yours is
different. I shall be giving a smaller cheque to MC to bring her total
amount up to what I am giving you."

He handed the cheques to his son and daughter. Timothy was
flabbergasted. "Dad are you sure that your vision hasn't been affected by
recent events? There appear to be way too many zeros in my cheque."

His father broke out in laughter. "Not the reaction I expected. Son you
never cease to amaze me. I really do like my new son."

Timothy handed his cheque to Jeremy and was on his feet to his dad and then
his mother. There were huge hugs with a lot of words of thank you.

His father looked up at Jeremy and then his son with a trace of a smile on
his face but very seriously, said, "That is a cheque that he can cash. A
little rash, don't you think? He could jump in the car and disappear."

"It's OK dad, it is my car and I have the keys in my pocket. I can also run
faster than him."

"Oh you have forgotten the set of keys that you gave me." He dangled them
in front of Timothy.

"But I can still run faster than you."

"Yeah but I am stronger." He flexed his muscles.

"Yeah but I am trickier."

"Right, you ARE a lawyer. Stupid me." He hit his own head with his fist.

Suddenly there was clearing of his father's throat. "Stop bickering."

Together with laughter. "We aren't bickering."

There was laughter all around with comments about accountants and other
people's money and about tricky lawyers. Unlike his usual restraint,
Timothy went over and gave his guy a lingering hug. Jeremy whispered that
$150,000 was a big way to paying his half of the house. There were tears in
Timothy's eyes and Jeremy gave him one of his looks and gently wiped them
away. They stood with Timothy's hand on Jeremy's shoulder. He pulled him
closer while thanking his parents yet again.

If you liked this story, you might want to read the others that I have
published on Nifty. In particular, my first story, Unexpected Change which
has had the most positive comments and one of my other favourites, What a
Difference a Year Makes. I have recently reread Introspection and it is
worth a read.
