As Jeremy came into the kitchen, Mrs Malenfant looked up. "What is all
this?"

"I know that you are having a lot of people. My contribution to the
party. Hope it is OK. It should be refrigerated until you need it."

"This was not necessary and you brought this wine and alcohol as well!
Thank you." She gave him a big smile. He ate something quickly with a soft
drink.

As they entered the porch, a man separated himself from the group. Jeremy
heard Timothy sigh. It was Mr. Malenfant; he remembered him from the
wedding. Timothy's father cocked his head, "So Mr. Marchese-Milner, you are
Timothy's friend from the city. Jeremy, if I remember correctly. Timothy
didn't mention your name, I am glad that I remembered it. So you are here
to learn to water ski."

"Yes sir and to celebrate July 1st. Timothy has told me about your yearly
celebration. He assured me that one more would be OK. I thank you so
much. Sounds great."

He gave Jeremy a rather long look that was certainly not totally
welcoming. Oh, oh thought both Timothy and Jeremy this might not be as easy
as they hoped it would be. No, Timothy realized it was almost exactly what
he had anticipated. So be it, he thought quietly to himself.

Present

They looked at each other as they left the porch and smiled. Timothy spoke
first. "I know the look. I have had it many times in my life. I am not
going to let it spoil the day. We have some kids down there who badly want
to get behind the boat and show their stuff. Let's get our priorities
right."

"Right Counsellor. You are tough and have your priorities right. I am
looking forward to that mouth to mouth resuscitation session."

"Incorrigible."

"What me? You were the one who brought it up." They laughed and argued all
the way to the dock.

A cheer went up from the kids at the dock with lots of comments of how long
it took.

Timothy gave them the look. "If you are so upset at me, maybe Jeremy and I
shall just go swimming."

Laughter and more howls of protest. Soon the first kid was up behind the
boat having a blast. Jeremy was impressed at how good he was. He became
more impressed as each kid did his or her stuff and were obviously
experienced. What would they think of him? There were a few spills but that
was due to tricky, advanced manoeuvres by the skier.

Finally, it was Jeremy's turn. Everyone had suggestions. He only listened
to his guy. Jeremy was strong so it was decided that he would sit on the
dock and Timothy explained how to do it. As Timothy expected, Jeremy was a
natural.

The boat started to go and the line started to tighten. As soon as it was
taut, Timothy increased the power and Jeremy held his hands arms, body and
legs exactly as Timothy had said and he was up and skiing. Timothy did a
couple of turns around the bay and then increased the speed. Jeremy felt
the power surge and felt exhilarated with with the speed and feel of the
water beneath him. He decided to do what he saw the kids doing. He turned
and crossed the wave that boat made. It was exciting as he let his legs
absorb the impact. Timothy went into a sharper turn and sped up. Jeremy
loved the feeling. He crossed back and went right over the other wave and
corrected his trajectory. He could see the huge smile and thumbs up from
Timothy.

He dd it a few more times and then saw the signal that Timothy was taking
him in and he would have to let go of the rope. Again he remembered the
instructions. He must have leaned to one side because as he let go, with a
combination of the sudden loss of momentum, the drag of the water and his
leaning, he was suddenly under water, spluttering. When he came to surface,
all the kids on the dock were laughing and then cheering. He got the skis
off and swam with them to the dock.

You would think that he had climbed Mount Everest. He heard comments about
how well he had done and the manoeuvres were excellent for his first
time. Jeremy had enjoyed it even more than he expected. After Timothy had
docked, he had one whispered comment to Jeremy, "Damn, no mouth to mouth."
Then he added, "You are a natural. Well done."

Jeremy's own whispered comment was to wait just a while longer for the
mouth to mouth. He said that he needed it badly after all the water he
swallowed on his dismount. They left the younger ones and walked side by
side up to the chalet. The number of guests had grown by a lot. They looked
at each other and commented that his mother must need some help. In the
kitchen was a young lady a bit older than Timothy. Timothy took one look
and he yelled out, Marie Claire, and he ran and hugged her.

Marie Claire looked over Timothy's shoulder. "Are you going to introduce me
to your friend?"

"Jeremy, my sister Marie Claire. Marie Claire, a friend from the city,
Jeremy." Jeremy gave her a light kiss on both cheeks in greeting. "Hey
where is your big hunk of a guy, Pierre?"

"Oh, changing the baby. It is his turn."

"I take it that Luc is thriving."

"Yes, you haven't seen him for a while. He is 8 months and he is
gorgeous. Thank goodness, we are finally getting full night sleeps."

They all chatted and Timothy finally looked at his mother. "Mom, you have
such a big crowd, Jeremy and I have come to help. We are going to do the
BBQ and anything else that you want."

"I won't deny that I could use a bit of help. Your father is out there
doing his meet and greet thing with the guests but we do have to feed the
multitudes. But Jeremy is a guest."

"Mom, I invited him for water skiing. How do you think that I am going to
get him to pay for that?" He paused and then with an evil chuckle, "Work
under my control." That got a bit of chuckle from everyone.

Jeremy's smile was mischievous. "I think that I like your mother's
suggestion better."

With just the right tone of voice, "You want to get on those skis again?"

"Oh counsellor, you are so persuasive. Mrs. M., what do you need done?"

His mother smiled at both of them. She knew that Jeremy had been kidding
her son; she had seen Jeremy's smile. She liked this man and he had come up
with his own name for her. She liked being Mrs. M. She outlined all her
needs. Marie Claire joined with pleasure. Jeremy enjoyed himself
immensely. It turned out that Marie Claire and later Pierre, when he joined
them, were fun to be with and Jeremy felt that he was part of the team.

It became obvious that money was not really a problem in the Malenfant
household. There was a second refrigerator filled with potato salad and
other delicious looking salads along with cut vegetables from one of the
best delis in the city. There was a wonderful selection of sausages and
chicken for the BBQ. Marie Claire had come up today with a vast selection
of artisan breads and dinner rolls. Jeremy's antipasto and meat had been
put out for snacks in the afternoon and Mrs. M. let him know that they were
delicious and she was very pleased that he had brought them.

Soon everyone was digging into a July1st feast. Apparently, the guys had
done a good job on the BBQ. They had both just enjoyed being with each
other and being part of the family team. Timothy realized that this was the
best July 1st he had ever had. There was a toast to Canada Day from
Jeremy's father. Quite a few of the guests had had quite a bit of wine. He
did notice that Timothy's father did pace himself well and was drinking
soda water or coffee.

After they helped with the clean up. They went behind the chalet and put up
their accommodation for the night. Timothy had pointed out that he should
keep his bedroom free for anyone who didn't want to drive home after the
fireworks, a good excuse for the tent. The tent was a two man tent and as
Jeremy said, very cozy. They brought out air mattresses and sleeping
bags. They both got in the tent to set it up. They looked at each other.

Jeremy's eyes were blazing. "Oh shit I need that mouth to mouth badly."

They lay on one of the air mattresses. As many times before, it started off
softly and romantically but suddenly it turned passionate. Timothy had to
break the kiss and whispered "Jeremy, no moaning. This is a tent and there
are lots of people around, especially the kids."

"Right but you do something to me." He reached down and felt Jeremy's
bulge. "It appears that it is mutual."

"OK, you sexy beast. Calm down. Let's go for a walk. I want to show you the
area. The fireworks don't start until around 10 or so. They went for a walk
and when they returned some of the guests were playing cards and the kids
were playing board games until the time for the fireworks.

Timothy looked around and spoke up. "Anyone for Euchre? Jeremy and I
challenge anyone who dares to play us." There were chuckles and Mrs. M with
a big smile said that she and Pierre would take them on. They played
several games until Mrs. M said that she had to go and replenish some of
the food and get ready for after the fireworks. She assured them that Marie
Claire would help her. One of her friends took her place. Jeremy and
Timothy still beat them fairly easily. They repeated their good games from
the bachelor party. Both guys remembered their first time playing together
at Jake's party. So much had happened since then; it was incredible how
their lives had changed.

Mr. Malenfant announced that the fireworks were imminent and everyone put
on mosquito repellent and went down to the beach. The community association
collected money every year and hired a local group to put on the
display. Timothy and Jeremy had brought down a blanket and they found a log
to lean against. As they sat down, they smiled at each other and Timothy
whispered that this was the best July 1st ever for him. They let their
hands touch and occasionally one or the other would stroke the others
hand. Shortly after, Marie Claire and Pierre arrived and Timothy quickly
repositioned his hand. They chatted for a minute. Pierre went over to ask
Jeremy something and they started talking about their jobs.

Marie Claire turned to Timothy with a little smile. "When are you going to
tell mom and dad?"

Timothy gave her a little quizzical look.

"I have watched you two together all day and you didn't move your hands
quickly enough when we arrived. I am so happy for you. I have always
wondered. Never a girl or a date. I am behind you completely. You are going
to have trouble with dad."

"OK, busted. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am going
to talk to Dad tomorrow after breakfast. He hasn't exactly greeted my guy
with open arms. There have been some of his looks."

"We all know the looks. No matter what, I mean it; I am totally behind
you. I think that mom will be OK."

At that moment, the first burst of fireworks broke over the water. The oohs
and ahs were loud from the crowd. After several spectacular
displays. Jeremy turned to Timothy with a soft look of love and
pleasure. "The best July 1st ever for me too. Doesn't get much better than
this." Timothy grabbed his hand and held it.

Jeremy tried to get him to release it. "Marie Claire just ask me when I was
going to tell mom and dad. She guessed and I told her. It feels so good to
be able to hold you like this here with at least one member of my
family. I'd kiss you but .... not quite ready for that public
display. Minutes later there was a final burst that had the crowd clapping
and exclaiming.

They walked up to the chalet with Marie Claire and Pierre. When they
reached it. Pierre turned to them both. "We have your backs. I suspect that
you will enjoy your accommodation tonight." The guys just smiled at him
with a little cuff on his arm.

They went into the chalet and there were yet more desserts being put out
with coffee, regular and decaf. Eventually, the crowd started to thin and
the guys decided to go to bed. They said good night to Mrs. M and Marie
Claire and Pierre and finally to Mr. Malenfant. As Jeremy was talking to
Pierre, Timothy's father looked first at Jeremy and then at Timothy and
quietly but in a very somber tone, said to Timothy, "Young man, you and I
need to talk tomorrow."

"Sure, I had intended to talk to you tomorrow. Right after breakfast?
Good." He said it in a bright but confident manner. His father's eyes
narrowed.

His father's tone has been peremptory and not pleasant. Timothy had his
strategy planned. He knew that strategies would have to modified by the
circumstances as they talked but he was ready. He only hoped that his
mother would be OK with what he was going to say tomorrow.

They were in the tent only a second when Timothy turned off the flashlight;
he didn't want any shadows. He grabbed Jeremy and kissed him. "What a
wonderful day and night. Thank you for being so great with my family. My
sister really likes you and is truly happy for me. Come I need to show you
how I feel."

"You are just horny after 5 days." He put his fingers on Timothy's lips. "I
know that we mean more than that to each other. Let's show it."

It was true they were fired up after that many days of celibacy but both of
them knew that tomorrow was a significant day in their lives and each
wanted to console or encourage the other. They turned on the flashlight and
put their air mattresses together and then undid the sleeping bags. One
went under them and the other was their cover. This was their bed together
tonight. Timothy had thrown in an extra blanket, just in case they needed
it. They turned off the flashlight and facing each other, took off the
others clothes. Both were unbearably hard as they finished with their
shorts.

"Jeremy, you looked so handsome and sexy in those shorts and you hair all
mused from being in the water."

"You looked so at peace after you talked with your sister. You looked
bloody sexy in the boat in your bathing suit and that sailors cap on. I
wanted you right then. I realized on the drive up how much I was looking
forward to seeing you. You came bounding up the hill. It took all my will
power not to hug you and kiss you. Now I can."

He leaned over and kissed him again and again. Their erections were rubbing
against each other as the hugged tightly leaving a trail of precum on their
bodies. Timothy finally broke the kiss. "I'm going to turn around. I like
the taste of your body after swimming and the rest of the day."

They were quickly in a 69.

They woke the next morning with the sun. Tents do not block the light very
well but they had slept well and woke with Timothy turned on his side
towards Jeremy with one arm over Jeremy's body. What a wonderful way to
wake up was Timothy's first thought. Jeremy must have been awake or had
wakened with Timothy's movement. Jeremy turned his head, his face radiant
in the light with a loving smile. They kissed. Not surprisingly they
reenacted their time together last night.

"Do you want to wake up in the real chalet way. Let's have a quick morning
swim. It will be refreshing."

"You do know that you are crazy ... but I like crazy."

Timothy held up two bathing suits from a small bag he had brought. "You
planned this." Timothy called him a wuss and laughed as he put on his
bathing suit and scrambled out of the tent. "Last one in makes the coffee."

There was a wild run down the hill and Timothy beat Jeremy into the water
by about 5 seconds. They laughed and splashed each other and suddenly
Timothy took off swimming hard out into the bay. He was followed by
Jeremy. They reached a spot in the bay and tread water. Then the splashes
started with lots of laughter and threats. Finally, Timothy took off with
Jeremy in pursuit. Timothy was a strong swimmer and reached shore many
seconds before Jeremy. He was drying himself when Jeremy ran out of the
water laughing and breathing hard. In other circumstances, they would
embraced each other but not today.

They walked up the hill enjoying the wonderful feeling of freshness. They
entered the kitchen. No one was up. Timothy looked at Jeremy. I'll get the
supplies; you make it. I'll get some cereal or do you prefer toast."

"Bacon and eggs would be great."

Timothy started to laugh. "You are serious. Alright, my treat. Bacon and
eggs coming up. You do the toast. You know how I like it."

Suddenly he realized that his mother was standing at the door. Mrs. M
walked into the kitchen, smiling. Did she hear what Timothy had just said.?
"I hope there is lots of coffee, Mr, M&M."

"I am making a whole pot. Timothy could make some bacon and eggs for
you. Or should I put some toast on for you. We, are making breakfast for
you. Sit and that is an order." Her smile could have lit the room up.

They were eating a very good breakfast when Mr. Malenfant walked into the
room. He said a curt good morning. His wife mentioned that Jeremy had made
coffee. He just looked at Jeremy and barely moved his head. He got himself
some cereal and coffee. The rest talked and he ate. When he finished, he
poured a bit more coffee and told Timothy that he would be on the porch.

Timothy sighed as his father left. His mother reached over and touched his
arm. Was she saying something? She smiled at Timothy and then turned to
Jeremy with a smile. "Wonderful breakfast, thank you my young men. Jeremy,
why don't you and I clean up together."

Timothy decided that he needed a prop, something for his hands to work with
so he put fresh coffee in his cup. He laughed to himself fantasizing that
he could always throw it at his father. No, to the plan Timothy, he told
himself. He looked at Jeremy and then his mother who had taken something to
the sink. She knew; he could tell. Timothy took something from the table
and put it at the sink and touched his mother. As he neared Jeremy, he
whispered telling him to be truthful with his mother.

Jeremy and Mrs. M cleaned up and sat back at the table. "Jeremy, I am going
to be blunt. How long have been going out with my son?"

In a flash, he realized that something had passed between mother and
son. Timothy was correct no more pretending. "About a month and half, we
met at Marie's wedding and your son asked me to go to a movie with him. We
had already established that we would have preferred dancing with each
other at the wedding but we knew that would be inappropriate. I haven't met
anyone like Timothy for a very long time."

"So let me guess, you are the one who invited him to play football?"

Jeremy nodded yes.

"You are the one he has been out with on Fridays and riding your bikes on
Sunday."

"Fridays yes and bike riding yes except for last Sunday." She asked a
question with her eyes. "Last Sunday, I took him to church and he met my
family, well my adopted family."

They looked at each other. Jeremy took a breath and let it out in a
sigh. "Jeremy knows his father's views on our relationship and we decided
to do it this way so that you could meet me and make up your mind about me
as a person. Timothy intended then to talk to his father today. He didn't
want to spoil July 1st. I guess we didn't carry it off as well as we
thought and hoped. By the way, Marie Claire guessed last night and she is
happy for her brother."

"Jeremy, I don't totally understand but that makes two of us who are happy
for Timothy. I have not seen him this alive for a long time."

"Timothy knows that there is a religious aspect to all of this."

"Jeremy, I am a woman. I see how the church has treated us in the past and
where we still are in the eyes of the old men who run it. There are a lot
of things that they just don't understand. I guess I still believe some but
I have to stretch myself some days, especially with our priest, Father
Pierre. If you truly love my son as Pierre loves my Marie Claire then I am
with you."

With his little trademark smile, "I can't speak for Pierre but your son
means more to be than I every imagined someone could. I am in love with
your son."

Timothy had walked slowly out to the porch breathing deeply and collecting
himself much as he did on Tuesday before going into court. His father was
sitting on a chair looking out over the water.

"The lake was so refreshing this morning. Cold but when your body got used
to it, wonderful."

His father was all business, no small talk today. "Timothy, do you know the
rumours about your friend, Jeremy?"

First deviation from his plan. OK I know how to deal with that he
thought. "Rumours? From the tone of your voice, you make it sound as if he
is a criminal."

"Don't. Not with me."

"Then speak your mind dad." He held his prop, his cup and squeezed it. It
felt good.

"There are rumours that his a homosexual."

"Not rumours dad. He is gay. Is this what you are concerned about?"

"Son, this can reflect back on you. People will assume. You slept together
with him in a tent last night for God's sake!"

"Assume, dad? What are you saying that I am gay by association with
Jeremy."

"Has he corrupted you? This reflects back on this family. Our standing in
the church. My business contacts. All the people who were here yesterday."

"Ah so this has nothing to do with me. This about you."

"How dare you? You have changed in the last weeks. You are different."

Timothy shook his head and looked out at the water. Again, he felt the
warmth of his cup and he caressed it. He was collecting his thoughts. The
silence was almost oppressive but he knew that he had to do it, now. The
plan.

"Dad, who am I to you?"

"You are my son!" The tone of voice seemed to indicate that was it and he
had better shape up as well and be the good son.

"Dad, I am so much more than that. No dad, now is not the time for
interrupting me. You have often used a term that I have always found
offensive. You have told me often to 'man up'. That is what I am going to
do right now. No, no interruptions, I have the floor." He was all courtroom
and lawyer. His father was staring at him, like someone he had never seen
before.

"I am a man, 26 years of age. Will be 27 this year. I came in the top 10 of
my law class. I have been hired by one of the top firms in the city. I just
won my first case in court. I make a lot of money, a very good six figure
income. I am investing a huge amounts of my spare cash with a really smart
agent from one of the top investment firms. What I do with my life now is
up to me.

Now comes the tough part for you. I think that I knew in high school but I
sure knew in university that I was ... gay. I had one relationship that
lasted months. When that ended, I was pretty confused about who I was and
how I related to people. I have stayed in the shadows. At the wedding, I
met Jeremy. I ... asked ... him out. We have been together since then. I
invited him this weekend so that you could meet him and see the guy that he
is. As he will tell you, I had decided that you and I would talk
today. That is me, dad. I am proud to be your son but I am more than that."

His father was wide eyed. Seemed to be lost for words. Finally, "As a good
catholic, I cannot condone this behaviour, him, in my house, with you. He
must leave. You must see Father Pierre!"

"Father, I shall never see Father Pierre about this issue. The church
happens to be wrong, on this issue. I shall never change, no counselling or
courses. It is quite simple; I am gay."

"Have you lost your faith as well."

In a matter of fact way as he could, "Probably some of my faith." He sighed
and looked right at his father. "About your ultimatum concerning Jeremy
leaving, Jeremy and I have planned to spend this holiday together. If
Jeremy leaves, then I have to leave as well."

"You leave when I say you leave."

He finally breathed a sigh of total frustration."You haven't been listening
very well father. I am a man. Jeremy is my partner. I act in exactly the
same way as Marie Claire."

"How dare you compare yourself to her and Pierre."

"Dad, she guessed last night and knows about us. She backs me fully. Dad,
in law, I am exactly the same as Marie Claire and I mean that I too can get
married to anyone that I want. I am not telling you that I am getting
married, just clarifying a point of law.

They stared at each other. It appeared that he had done it. His father was
virtually speechless. "Now, I think that there are some young people who
would like to go water skiing this morning. I should go and get the boat
ready. Oh dad, let me know before it is too late please if I am staying
tonight. I really don't look forward to a drive back to the city at dark
and I don't particularly want to search out a hotel for tonight late in the
day."

"He is not staying here. You will have to make a choice."

"I have been very clear and explicit to you and I shall go with YOUR
decision." He looked at his father who remained silent but hostile. "In
that case, I shall talk to mom, she is expecting us for lunch. We'll leave
this afternoon. I have young ones anxiously waiting for me down at the
dock."

Before his father could reply, Timothy was up and out of the porch. Timothy
knew that his father was not used to being disobeyed. He wanted to break
the session so that no really hurtful words were spoken by either of them.

As he entered the kitchen, his mother stood. "From the look on your face,
it didn't go as well as you hoped? Darling, I love you no matter what. You
are my son. My wonderful son. Don't blame Jeremy, I forced Jeremy to tell
me. I knew from the way you two looked at each other; you know each others
every day habits. After the party, your father said some things about
Jeremy. I came to my own conclusions."

"Actually, your mother was wonderful. I didn't tell her that you told me to
tell the truth; she already knew. How did it go?"

Mrs. M's voice broke in. "Jeremy and Timothy give each other a hug. You
both need it." So for first time, they gave each other a hug like any other
couple would. Mrs. M had a wonderful look on her face.

"Thanks mom. This guy is my rock. It appears that we are leaving. Dad gave
an ultimatum that HE could not stay and had to leave. I told him that we
were spending the holiday together. I did tell him that we were going water
skiing and then that you had expected us for lunch. So I guess that we are
leaving the afternoon."

Jeremy started to speak. "Timothy, you can't do ...."

With a big smile, "Jeremy, I am spending the holiday with my guy. To be
realistic, can you imagine the atmosphere here? Dad is not pleased with me
and especially not pleased with you. No, it will give everyone a chance to
cool off, especially me."

They all heard noise down the hall. Marie Claire, Pierre and Luc arrived in
the kitchen. "OK, what is going on? You guys all look tense. I bet I can
guess." She looked at Timothy. "You and dad talked. Didn't go well. I can
tell."

Mrs. M gave a very short but precise resume of the situation. Timothy sat
down and put one hand on Jeremy's shoulder.

"I told you that I backed you fully. I think that we may leave as well."

"Please MC, don't do that. We'll be OK. We are going to leave this
afternoon and find a place to stay for the weekend or go back to the
city. I am already guilty of so many things in his eyes, don't add more
please."

Marie Claire gave the two of them a big hug. "He is going to know where I
stand and Pierre is with me."

We are going to take the few kids who are left for a water ski and this guy
is going to get up once more. Pierre why don't you join us?" With a big
grin, "The guys take on the lake. Anyway, I am looking for an excuse to
give this guy mouth to mouth resuscitation."

It was so unexpected and said so matter of fact that the entire room broke
up. "Your dad told me last night that you had changed. You have. You are my
wonderful, happy son. Go, water ski."

A look passed between mother and daughter. It was one of resolve. "Marie
Claire, let's do this together with this one." She picked up little
Luc. "He is going to be brought up with a different set of values."

Little did Timothy or his father know what was going to happen as the guys
enjoyed their water skiing.

For them, the tension had broken. They had a great time. Timothy felt as if
a huge burden had been lifted; he felt liberated for the first time in
years. He had done it.

Jeremy wanted to yell out his happiness. He could have a normal life with
his guy. Maybe a dirty weekend in a local hotel after they left but he
would always remember their night in the tent.
