Previously

His parting words had our minds racing for hours. "Guys if I am not at
church on Sunday. tell everyone that I had some unexpected things to take
care of. Believe me it will be the truth."

We talked a bit about it but we both knew that he had to make his own
way. Like Tony for us, we had to be there for him.

We met the family on Sunday. Momma looked around and asked where Gio
was. It was Philip who answered. "Oh, I forgot. I was talking to him this
week and said that he had some unexpected things to take care of." Momma
looked satisfied and we went in.

As I arrived at the priest to say goodbye, he gave me a rather stern look
and said that he wanted to talk to me sometime that week. I could make an
appointment with the office in the church. He went quickly to Tony and
family.

What a week. The drama of Gio. The destruction of large parts of my
house. Now the priest wanted to speak to me. He did not look pleased. Could
be very interesting. It would certainly be right in keeping with my life at
present.

Present

No word from Gio on Sunday. We had both decided that it was up to Gio to
make the contact. He was possibly in a dilemma but not a major problem that
he absolutely needed help with. I or we would talk when he chose.

My big decision was what to do about the priest. I could ignore his request
and put him in his place but that left the Marcheses in the lurch and
possibly the priest's very bad books. No, I finally decided I should face
him and he could settle his business with me. Maybe it was going to be a
positive meeting. Right, not after the look he gave me. I phoned from work
on Monday morning and was given a time on Wednesday at 4:30. Good, it gave
me some time. It turned out to be slightly more complex but a more complex
situation that I liked.

Work was going quite well and we had signed on some new customers and hired
a new consultant, David, who was young, computer savvy and seemed to have
all the right attitudes for our type of firm. He was a good listener, knew
his tax law and accounting well. He was quite quiet with his coworkers but
insightful and bright when talking about work, even enthusiastic. He also
had a good background in forensic accounting and it was an area in which I
wanted to expand, to start in in a small way. Well test the waters.

That night at home I was doing some research on the computer when I heard
Philip approaching. "What're you doing?"

"Some research for Wednesday's meeting. Reading the Bible actually." He
looked at my screen reading the content and smiled. "Boy, are we sinful. I
want to come with you. You are correct. I think that it is going to be
about you and me and I want to be part of it."

"It's how we operate. It is not just OK with me. I would appreciated you
being there as a backup to my memory and a witness to what he says."

"You are expecting a rough time?"

"Let's just say that I have listed in my mind all the topics that he would
want to talk to me about and most are contentious. Unless he wants to
welcome me to the football team."

We both chuckled.

I had a lot of work with the new employee on Monday and part of Tuesday. He
looked like a excellent hire.

There was the visit to the house. We were surprised that the walls in the
kitchen had been patched. The electrician had been in to wire new lights
and outlets for the new configuration and put in some computer cabling that
I wanted. I figured that I might as well while the walls were
available. With all the smart appliances and networks that were coming on
stream, I figured that I might as well spend a bit and I actually wired
somethings through to the study behind the kitchen. From there we could go
to other areas of the house. They figured that they would have painted the
walls and have the kitchen cabinets in by the end of the week or early next
week. The painters had a lot of the living room and dining area started
with a primer, the colour of the final coat. It was exactly what we
wanted. We were on schedule.

Wednesday arrived. The day of doom was how I felt about it. I tried to stop
my negative feelings but I knew that I did not want a bad break with the
priest for the sake of the family. Mamma knew about the meeting and was
also apprehensive. Not for me, she had assured me that she knew that I
could handle myself. She too didn't want a break with the priest over her
family and she told me that I was part of the family. I actually arrived a
few minutes early with that thought in my mind. Mamma and I were family. I
couldn't help smiling to myself.

Philip arrive shortly after me. I looked at him softly and we didn't kiss
but I gave his hand a quick squeeze. Father Gregory emerged from his office
minutes later and spotted Philip. He looked at me with a question in his
face. I told him simply that Philip wanted to come with me as a friend. He
was not exactly enamoured with the word 'friend' or that I had someone with
me.

"Thank you for coming so promptly." We sat down and passed a few
pleasantries about the weather and our day.

"Mr. Milner, I notice that you do not take communion."

"No father, I am simply following your declaration that only those who are
Catholic can take communion."

"So you are not Catholic."

I gave him a little smile. "Close, Anglican (Episcopal for American
readers)."

He didn't return my smile but he seemed slightly less tense. "You have a
parish here in the city?"

"No, I have been attending here with the family and I like the atmosphere
and the people. I attend my parents' church when I am there. That is the
church that I was brought up in."

The priest nodded. So far so good. I was certain that this little dialogue
was not the only reason that I had been summoned. He looked as if he was
figuring out what to say next. I sat comfortably looking expectantly at
him.

"There are some rumours circulating about your relationship with Philip." I
simply gave him a little look that asked for more details. He was searching
for words. "If the rumours are correct, you and Philip do not have a
churched sanctioned relationship. I am told that you live together."

I sat there thinking that there it was, 'not a church sanctioned
relationships', an interesting way to introduce it. Father Gregory seemed a
little surprised that Philip answered so quickly and directly.

Philip, "We do Father."

Looking at Philip, "I take it that you don't mean that you simply live in
the same house separately, just sharing the same premises?"

Philip looked at him directly in the eye. "You are correct Father."

"Father, I am not sure why you would ask me to come to discuss this with
you."

"Well, Philip and his family are prominent members of the parish and I
don't feel that you are setting a good example for the young people."

"Father it is Philip and our family." I paused letting him take that
in. "Father, I always find this line of argument strange. There are so many
influences on young people's lives; they hear and know so much that I
sometimes cannot believe that this issue is the one that is often chosen to
focus on."

"It is against church teaching and our view of the family."

"Father, it is interesting. Do you call people in for a talk when there are
rumours that they are having an affair? Do you count the number of children
couples have and ask them in to see if they are using birth control? Do you
call in couples who are not married and there are rumours that they are
living together? Do you call husbands in who are rumoured to be abusive to
wives or children? Because in the short time I have been here, I have heard
such rumours. Most of these things are against church teachings." I figured
that I might as well be blunt. He was.

The priest gave me a very appraising look. "Today, I can only tell you that
I am concerned about this issue."

Easy but not a bad reply in the circumstances. "You know Father, I am quite
aware what Paul says to the Romans and to the Corinthians in his
epistles. I have read the passages. It strikes me that homosexuality is
listed but only as one of many sins that the flocks were told to fight
against because they are not a way to be with God. I think that today it is
easier to focus on the issue of homosexuality because it is just a small
minority and is much easier to recognize, document and complain about."

I stopped looking at him intently. "To be honest, I feel that Philip and I
are good role models. We play sports with a lot of the guys who attend the
church and they know about our livimg arrangements. We have dinners and
parties that are mixed. We spend a lot of time with our families. We have
an excellent relationship with both our families. We have a caring, sharing
relationship with each other. We are equals. We make our decisions together
often putting the others needs ahead of our own. We share our lives; I
think it is for better or for worse, in sickness and in health. I don't
mean to be sacrilegious but it is how I feel."

"And so do I Father."

"But will it always be like that?"

"Father, look at the divorce rates for Canada; they are high. I plan for
our partnership to last for a very long time. Clearly nothing is carved in
stone but I intend to work hard at it." I looked at Philip. "I have to work
hard at it every day with this guy!" I got the tone right. Even the priest
was holding back a smile.

Shaking his head in mock disgust, Philip intervened. "Father, this man
suggested that we move into his house and then he asked me to help plan
renovations so that it would become our home. We are in the midst of that
now. In addition, he told me to rent my condo and invest the money. He then
had me make a will leaving my money to my family, specifically to my nephew
and niece for their education."

I took up the narrative. "On the night that we met, this man approached me
to dance. He was charming and insistent but kind and allowed me to set the
terms of the dance and the evening. He was the same honest, caring man that
he is today." By this time, Philip and I were looking caringly at each
other across the room. Father Gregory cleared his throat bringing us back
to the issue at hand.

I took up the attack. "Father, if this meeting was to get me to leave the
church, I cannot do that. If this meeting is the result of pressure from
some parishioners, please tell them that I want to be part of the church
and cannot leave because of my family. I am part of the Marchese family. I
am a lucky man."

The priest cocked his head to the side. "Mr. Milner, what do you do for a
living?"

"I own and run an accounting firm with about 20 staff. We are quite
successful as a small business. By the way, everyone there knows that
Philip and I are partners. He came to the party in December and helped me
to host it."

"Gentlemen, an interesting time together. Not exactly what I
expected. Thank you." He stopped, looking at both of us. He was clearly
thinking about something. "Would I be able to call on you if I need help in
dealing with certain situations in which I shall probably be out of my
depth?"

"You mean counselling young men or women who are having problems with their
sexuality and possibly with home problems."

He nodded his head yes. "Father, I am not a trained counsellor."

"I suspect more informed and approachable than me in such cases. There are
indeed many influences on young people today for which I am not totally
equipped."

"Father, I admire your courage to say what you just said. I want you to
know that I am absolutely against any attempt to treat gay people as sick
or in need of change in their sexuality. I oppose all counselling that
tries to change their fundamental nature."

"Having had this meeting, I am not surprised that you are so passionate or
have that reaction. I think that my little reading and observation would
agree with you on changing people."

"Father was this a test?"

"Not really. I wanted us to get each others measure. You are obviously a
thoughtful and observant man and may I say refreshingly forthright. I know
where I stand." He shook his head with a small smile. "Yes, there has been
some pressure from a small number of parishioners and I am going to use
your statements to the fullest. The idea of using you evolved as we
talked. I understand your reluctance but if I think that I can use you, I
may call on you and we shall find a way for it to work. OK? You can always
say no."

I didn't say no and I didn't say yes. I was surprised. We shook hands with
some warmth between us. Shit what had all my preparation gotten me into?
Well perhaps nothing would come of it. There couldn't be that much need in
the parish.

I answered my phone at work on Thurday morning. "Gio, I thought that you
had disappeared off the map or at least out of the city."

"Smart ass, free for lunch today?"

We met at our usual spot. He was looking great and I was greeted by a
really big smile and hug from my brother-in-law.

We chatted about the weekend and the inter squad game that Philip and I had
played on Saturday, a 2 - 2 draw. Not a bad result for early in the season
under the dome. I told him about church and my meeting with Father
Gregory. He looked both pleased and apprehensive.

We ordered and finally Gio spoke up. "Kev and I have reached an
understanding, an agrreement."

"Whose idea was that?"

"Yours basically!"

"Have to hear this."

"I told him about our conversation and he thanks you for your considerate
thoughts. We then talked a lot about my early experiences and my reaction
to him on New Years Eve. We talked about his reaction to me on New Years
and in the week that followed. We talked a lot last week. I guess an
agreement sort of grew as we talked. We are going to see only each other
for the next month and we have scheduled dinner on a date one month from
last Saturday. We can both decide where to go from there."

"Saturday significant?"

"Well Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, I discovered that I liked the
taste and feel of a man, hair hardness and all. By the way gay men do give
great blow jobs. Apparently, I am a fast learner."

I almost sprayed my drink all over the place. I looked at him chuckling. "I
guess that I'll never live those words down."

"Carved in stone and written in my notes."

"Can I give you another piece of advice. Discover yourself, one way or the
other; enjoy this and don't tell anyone in the family except for Philipo
and me. Come back to church on Sunday and be wtih the family if you can
tear youself away from Kev."

"Exacltly what he wants me to do."

"I like the guy."

He paused with a look that was hard to describe. "So do I."

I persuaded Gio to come out for the football team. He was OK with that as
Kev played hockey often on the same nights and days that we practiced or
played. Gio said that he wanted a group to fall back on if Kev decided that
he was not the guy he was looking for." He paused. "Or vice versa."

Philip was so pleased when I told him the story as we stopped in to look at
the house. They were right on schedule. The cabinets were almost all in and
the long island was in but the countertops of granite had not yet been
installed, anywhere in the kitchen. They did have all the correct colours
of flooring and countertop. They had painted the final coat on the walls
and had then installed the cabinets and it all looked crisp and modern,
just what I had wanted. The living room was finished and next was the
refinishing of the floors after all the work on the kitchen was
completed. It looked as if moving day was 2 weeks away or slightly
more. Would have to get the guys free who said that they would help.

True to his word Gio was back to church with apologies for missing last
week. I looked at him several times and he seemed so happy and at peace
with himself that I was really happy for him. The priest was much warmer
when we shook hands and we had a great lunch and afternoon watching
Juventus win its game resoundingly. Top of the table again.

Three weeks later we got the news that the house was finished
officially. We went on the Friday and went over it with the contractor and
signed off on the work. They had cleaned the kitchen and all the protective
coverings were gone. The place looked fantastic and liveable. Philip and I
cleared the master bedroom of some of the junk stored in it and phoned the
guys to set up a time on Sunday afternoon to move the furniture back into
position and have a little house warming party.

I looked at Philip with anticipation in my eyes. He looked at me
warily. "You are thinking of a little housewarming in advance aren't you?"

"Yep, several and one ... starting now!"

I grabbed him and pushed him on the bed. "Our home." That was all it
took. It was no holds barred frolic in the bed that we hadn't used for way
over a month.

I started off as the aggressor that afternoon. I had him naked very quickly
and I was all over him. Oh, he responded but I kept up the attack. I
couldn't stop touching him with my fingers and tongue. His balls tasted so
good after a day at work. They were hot and delicious.

We finally agreed that we both wanted a shower using the new shower heads
that we had had installed. A small change in the bathroom. We were very
quickly very clean. I grabbed him again and pushed him to the bed making
him kneel on the bed. He was almost keening by the time I put my tongue in
as far as I could.

He suddenly pulled away and had me laying on my back on the bed. "Now it's
my turn." He was breathing hard as he licked me from my eyes to my toes and
then up to the head of my cock with his fingers on my balls. He licked the
head and then slowly sucked me softly. Oh, so fucking arousing. I think I
said something like that outloud or maybe just loudly. He redoubled his
efforts. The finger inside me is always the turning point. It usually means
that he is going to fuck me and that is what it was going to be, a joyous
fuck. He stopped, looking at me. He teased me until I was finally begging
him.

In the spirit of the moment. "Jamie what is it that you want me to do? In
words, tell me."

"Fuck me hard ... fast ... slow ... long strokes, short ones but fuck me!"

"I like it when you talk dirty."

"Cut the talk and fuck me."

He did in the way I really like sometimes. He opened me and put himself at
my opening and invaded me. It was that feeling of being invaded, stretched
and taken by the man I loved. I was quite vocal in a way that he knew that
I was enraptured by his actions. I was to discover afterward that I left
lots of marks on his back in my passionate response. He went at me with
vengeance and came quickly. With a smile on his face and lots of lube on
me. He looked at me with love. "Now, fuck me you gorgeous hunk." I did. We
ended up totally worn out holding each other as if it were our last night
on earth.

We fell asleep and stayed the night. The next morning, we went to the condo
and packed all our clothes to take them home. Take them home, my spirit
soared. We decided on a maid service to come and thoroughly clean the condo
before putting it on the market for rent. We would put some feelers out,
first to work mates and friends to see if we could manage the rental
ourselves.

An interesting group was there. Tom, Eric, Gio, Kev and Tony. To Tony, we
introduced Kev as a friend from the club. We had a great time with the guys
and Mamma and Pops surprised us by coming over in the afternoon with food
and drink for supper. It was interesting to see her reaction to the
guys. In particular, she seemed to take a shine to Tom and Kev. They were
charming to her and she plied them with food and drink. Only we could
recognize the small looks and touches that Kev and Gio exchanged. It was a
great way to start off in our new home.

I could tell that Kev was a little overwhelmed by the family. I guess it
was better to see them in action sooner than later. He did say to me
quietly as they were leaving that I was a lucky guy to be so accepted by a
family like this. I took that as a good sign.

The week passed in its usual ways. We were just finishing supper on the
Wednesday when the telephone rang. Philip picked it up. "Oh, hello, Father
Gregory.... No we finished a couple of minutes ago.... No actually not take
out. We put a beef roast in the slow cooker and had very healthy home
cooked meal with lots of vegetables.... Yes, he is right here."

"Father Gregory. An unexpected pleasure...." He cut me off with a long plea
for help.

I had questions. "His name? He is there right now? Can you give me some
background information?"

I listened to him but my thoughts were all over the place. What had I done
to deserve this? OK, I implied that I would help if I could; I hadn't said
no. What could I do? OK, James you run a business and manage people all the
time. You do have experience with difficult situations. Do it! It is a
challenge. Little did I know how this would turn out.

My final words to Father Gregory, "I would like you to be there or at least
close by. I cannot do this alone." He suggested that he would be outside
the room listening to what was going on. I agreed to be there by 7:30. It
would be a scramble.

What had gotten myself into? I was to meet and deal with an 17 almost 18
year old boy whose mohther went to the church. The young lad was having
problems with his father who had asked Father Gregory in desperation 'to
talk some sense into him'.

Philip suggested that he drive me and he would go for a coffee or stay
close by. We arrived at 7:20. Father Gregory looked out of sorts and told
me that he was out of his depth on this one. We were meeting in one of the
parish meeting rooms. I entered to see not a boy but a young man sprawled
out on the couch. He looked at me with disdain but maybe a flicker of
interest. He didn't stand or even move.

I tried the civil approach. "I'm James'" holding out my hand.

With almost no interest and certainly no manners, he looked at me but
didn't bother with my hand, he managed to almost growl out, barely
disguising his ill temper, "Jeremy."

I admit that anger washed over me but I managed to quell it. I decided to
play his game for a bit. I kept telling myself to stay calm and cool. I sat
down heavily in the comfortable chair opposite him and sprawled my legs out
slouching in my chair just like him and stared at him saying nothing more.
