Accidents will Happen

Chapter 28

Dylan smiled at me, the emotion clear on his face, I had never felt a love
this strong before and it scared me a little.

"Dylan there is a police officer here who is going to want to talk to you
about what happened. They are treating it as attempted murder and a hate
crime."

Dylan's face changed as if a cloud had just shut out the sunshine in his
life. "Dan I don't remember anything about what happened. I remember you
getting in the shower to go to work and I remember you wiggling you sexy
ass at me" Dylan giggled as his face lit up just a little, "but after that
I don't remember anything."

"Why did you leave the house babe?" I asked, trying not to give him any
information that he might eventually remember himself.

"I have no idea, I don't even remember getting ready to go out let alone
actually going out." Not being able to remember was scaring Dylan and I
could see the tears starting to well up in his eyes. "Maybe I should check
my phone Dan, maybe there is something on there" Dylan said as if having a
little brainwave.

"Sorry baby the person who did this to you also stole your phone after they
knocked you down."

"What the fuck, they stole my phone. That had all our selfie pics Dan, all
the pics of when we went out together, all my memories of us" Dylan's tears
started to cascade down his cheeks, the look of sadness on his face slowly
and painfully breaking my heart. I wrapped my arms around him, being as
gentle as I could, and hugged him. I wanted to squeeze him tightly but
knew I couldn't. Dylan placed an arm around my waist and buried his face
into my chest as he sobbed.

"Look at me Dylan." Dylan looked up with his crystal blue eyes flooded with
tears and it brought back in a flash the very moment I had first looked in
to them and I shivered slightly. I placed a hand gently on each of his
cheeks "Our memories aren't lost in your phone, they are securely kept and
guarded in here" I said as I placed my right hand on his chest over his
heart. "That's where our memories are baby." Dylan stretched up to me
slightly and slid his had around the base of my neck pulling me down
towards him.

Our lips touched in a moment before I felt him apply more pressure to my
neck drawing me in closer and kissing me long and hard. It suddenly felt
as if the world had stopped turning, time had stood still and we were the
only people on the planet. I gently ran my hand down the front of his chest
towards the beginning of the bed sheet. I slipped my hand under the sheet
and found Dylan's hardness. I squeezed it gently and he moaned quietly in
my ear as the pleasure he felt made him break off the kiss and rest his
cheek against mine. I removed my hand suddenly remembering where I was and
stepped away from Dylan. The look of passion on his face was only eclipsed
by the obvious bulge in the sheet.

"It seems not all of your bones are broken baby?" I said giggling.

"You fucker Dan, look what you've done" Dylan said sheepishly. "I need
this to go down quickly before Mom comes back or one of the nurses comes
in."

"Or one of the Doctors cums" I said starting to laugh. Dylan looked at me
and scowled.

"Don't laugh it's not funny" he said as his scowl turned in to a grin and
then his grin turned in to a chuckle. "Ohh, oww, don't make me laugh it
hurts" he said as his chuckle developed in to a more hearty laugh and he
held the side if his chest. For some reason this made me laugh more and
before long I was in a near hysterical state, tears running down my eyes.
I moved over to the chair I had slept in and sat down, the laughing wearing
me out.

"Oh Dylan you make me laugh so much" I said temporarily forgetting the
situation we were both in and momentarily recapturing my composure.

As we both finished laughing the door of the room opened and Dylan's mom
walked in.

"Oh we do seem to have woken up" she said hearing the laughter finally die
out. I quickly grabbed one of the pillows Dylan had on his bed and chucked
it over his lap to hide his predicament as Jane turned to close the door.
Dylan smiled and winked at me and mouthed "Thank you." Jane walked over to
her son and planted and tender kiss on his forehead.

"How you feeling sweetie?" she asked gently stroking his cheek. "I'm ok
Mom, very sore, but ok. Dan here has been keeping me entertained" he
replied looking directly at me with his cheeky smile.

"I hope he hasn't over excited you, you need to rest he should know that"
Jane replied looking at me and smiling warmly.

"Fat chance of any over excitement in here" Dylan replied with a tut.

"Well if you're not over excited do you think you feel up to talking to
Officer Sharp? He's been outside waiting patiently for hours."

"Mom I don't remember anything about the accident, I already told Dan"
Dylan said looking scared.

"Come on Dylan, talking to Officer Sharp might help you remember" I said
getting up from the chair and taking hold of his hand. "We need to find
the people who did this to you; we can't let them get away with it." Dylan
looked at me, tears beginning to fill his eyes again. I squeezed his hand
"Its ok Dylan I will be here with you through all of it, you won't be
alone."

Dylan smiled lightly as a single tear rolled down his cheek and on to the
sheet. "I'm scared, I'm not sure I want to remember what happened" he said
squeezing my hand and the emotion catching in his voice as the first tear
was joined by a second and a third.

"I know you're scared baby, I know this is difficult but if these people
can do it to you then they can do it to someone else too, imagine how you'd
feel then" I said feeling really shitty as I played on his warm loving
humane side. I knew that the thought of what had happened to him happening
to another kid would be a dreadful image for Dylan and one he couldn't let
happen.

"Ok" he said quietly as he lowered his head, looking straight down at the
bed. "I know I shouldn't be so selfish."

This last comment almost tore my heart from my body. "Dylan you never have
been and never will be a selfish person and I am so sorry if that's how I
made you feel. You've been through an extremely traumatic experience and
it's wrong for me to pressure you in to talking to the police if you don't
think you're ready to do so. I put my personal need for retribution before
your needs and I am so sorry."

Dylan raised his head and looked me in the eyes, "Doc, if it wasn't for you
I wouldn't be here so the least I can do is help you recover from this too
by trying to remember and helping the police."

Dylan never ceased to surprise me, this was one of the reasons I loved him
so much, he had a level of maturity that belied his years. I had had brief
relationships with guys my own age in the past and not one of them had ever
shown the level of maturity Dylan did.

"I am so proud of you baby" I said squeezing his had once more. Dylan gave
me a little smile but not one of confidence or preparedness but one of fear
and trepidation, a smile of uncertainty and pain. I could tell from that
one smile Dylan new more than he had let on and he was now resigned to
letting us in to a place he thought he had locked away. Both he and I knew
we were about to open a door to a whole lot of hurt for Dylan and I, the
person who was supposed to love him and protect him had led him to that
door, put the key in the lock and was now pushing him to open it.

"Ok let's get this over with" Dylan said gesturing to his mom to open the
door.
