Rodney said, "Well, damn that's different. Not exactly your speed but maybe
you want them both. You want your cake and eat it too. No pun intended."

Dontay said, "Man, I don't even know. What's the fuck is going on?"

Rodney said adjusting his shirt, "Hell, if I know. Maybe it's this hot ass
weather."

Dontay and Rodney enter the AT&T store parking lot and then enter the
store.

They both walk into the store and Dontay says while looking over at the
check out counter, "This is not my damn week man."

Rodney says, "What's wrong?" He looks over and says, "Oh Robert is

just friends again like when were in middle school, huh?"

Dontay said, "Middle school, huh? What? When I was the seventh grader

Robert said, "Whatever you say. But you did fit in though."

family code. But what about that friend of yours, Todd."

Dontay said, "Nope. Not Todd."

Rodney says, "Why not? What? You got him sucking your dick too?"

brother."

Dontay says, "Straighter then Derrek."

The cashier gives Rodney his new phone and they leave.

Once in the car, Rodney mentions Todd one more time. Rodney says, "So
you're saying he's not even curious."

Dontay was somewhat at a lost for words and says, "Uh... I'm not sure."

Rodney said, "I didn't think so. Ain't no what he's best friends with
someone who is bisexual and like guys 50% of the damn time."

Dontay said, "Well, it's possible he's not curious."

Rodney said, "You never know."

Dontay said, "Look Rod, don't being stirring up shit. I don't need any more
problems with guys. Anyway he likes my sister."

Rodney said, "Who will want that ghetto bourgie princess?"

Dontay said, Neither of them knows I know. But one last week when Todd was
over and my sister wasn't she texted his phone and I say her name pop up on
the screen because he had his phone on the table next to mine."

Rodney said, "You have a problem with it?"

Dontay said, "Not at all. But just let me know."

Rodney said, "One thing you hate is people you love and care about keeping
shit that may concern you away from you."

Dontay held out his hand for Rodney to give him a five and said, "You know
Rod."

The two arrive at Rodney's house. They enter Dontay's cousin Monica's house
and his sister says, "Hey Dontay I have to tell you something."

Rodney says, "Hi to you too Ryane."

Ryane says, "What? Oh yeah, hi asshole."

Rodney says walking towards the kitchen, "Hi shipwreck."

Dontay says, "What you want to talk about? Because if it's about Chris
again, I don't want to hear it."

Ryane said, "Well, it's not about him. It's about me and..."

Dontay got a slight smile on his because he knew she was referring to Todd,
"You and who?" He folds his arms.

Ryane said, "Me and um... Todd. We're seeing each other. Don't be mad."

Dontay said, "I'm not mad. I'm just glad you told, but I already knew."

Ryane said, "Yeah, I had to. I know how you are about people keeping things
from you and Todd wanted to tell you at the barbeque but I wanted to tell
you myself."

Dontay said, "At least one of you did. Look at you. Dating a senior. It
would be ideal if you passed freshman year." Dontay laughs while flopping
down on the couch in the entry hall.

Ryane hitting him on the side of the head and also laughing which is rare,
"You know I passed."

She sits down and Dontay puts his arm around her and says, "Does Mom know?"

"Yeah," Ryane said. "She said we could go out tonight."

Dontay said, "That's good baby girl. Maybe you'll smile more."

Ryane said, "I smile. Just tell people to stop saying and doing stupid
shit."

Dontay said, "I know what you mean."

Later that evening, Dontay was finally able to return the call to Ashley
but instead of talking to her on the phone he decided to Skype her.

[On Skype]

Ashley said, "Hey lover."

Dontay said, "What's up girl? How you doing?"

Ashley said, "I'm doing good. Getting adjusted to crazy life in Staten
Island."

Dontay said, "Oh really? You like it there?"

Ashley said, "It's cool. Not much different than Detroit."

Dontay said, "Have you seen any Mob shoot outs?"

Ashley said, "Damn and you said that so damn serious, but no. Hey but I did
see one of those Mob Wives on television."

Dontay said, "That's what's up. But um... I wanted to talk about that
dramatic ass voicemail you sent me yesterday. What's going on?"

Ashley said, "Uh, how are you and Chris doing? Y'all be all on Twitter and
Facebook positing pics of each other."

Dontay said, "We're good but what do you want to talk to me about?"

Ashley said, "It's kind of about Chris."

Dontay says nonchalantly, "Oh really."

Ashley says, "Yeah, and don't answer me like that. But I have this friend,
Renee that I just met here in Staten Island. She lives next door to
me. Well anyway last week we were on the boardwalk and she saw me looking
at a picture of you and Chris on Twitter. Then Renee said she knew Chris
from a big scandal a year ago in L.A. What she said was that it was some
kind of prostitution thing that involved minors and young adults. Well
anyway, I just want to know if you knew about it?"

Dontay said, "Look Ash, I've heard this before and I'm gonna ask him about
it. I have a little something planned for us this week. We've been kind of
distant, mostly on my part I think but I'm gonna have to bring it up."

Ashley said, "Well, I know you'll eventually get the truth out of him one
way or the other. You may be able to look it up online if you just want
some assurance that what he says is true."

Dontay responded, "I've already tried that. Todd told me that the minors'
names weren't mentioned."

Ashley said, "Todd? What's his dumbass doing these days?"

Dontay said, "Pissed off about his grade in Mr. Dobbs class."

Ashley said, "He should've failed. The asshole copied that last paper off
of the internet."

Dontay said, "That's what I told him."

Ashley said, "Dumbass. So how you feel about him talking to your sister?"

Dontay said, "You know about that?"

Ashley said, "Yeah. It's on Facebook. His relationship status changed about
an hour ago to `In a relationship with Ryane Matthews'."

Dontay said, "Oh ok. I don't have problem with it at all."

Ashley said, "Look at your understanding ass."

Dontay said, "Whatever you say. You seeing anybody yet?"

Ashley said, "Not yet. It's nothing but Italian's here. I feel like I'm in
A Bronx Tale."

Dontay said, "Italian's can get it though. Italian women are just like
black woman in way. I hear those Italian guys are packing."

They both laugh. And Ashley says, "If you say so. I'm gonna talk to you
later alright."

Dontay said, "Alright baby."

A little bit after Dontay ended his Skype session with Ashley he got a text
from Chris.

-Chris: What's up baby?

-Dontay: Hey Chris. What you doing?

-Chris: Nothing. Just lying here in my big bed wishing you were lying on
top of me.

-Dontay: Well, is that so? I wish I were there too baby, but I can't wait
to spend the whole day with you Wednesday.

-Chris: I know what you mean.

-Dontay: How is your family situation doing?

-Chris: What family situation?

When Dontay received that text message, he knew that something wasn't right
because at the day of barbeque Chris had a terribly worried look upon his
face. Dontay knew he had to question this.

-Dontay: You can't tell me you don't remember? It was just yesterday and
you had something serious on your mind. I could tell.



Chris remembered what Dontay was talking about and he hated that he was
about to lie to him again.

-Chris: Oh, that's right. Everything is cool. I just blocked it out of my
mind. No sense in worrying about something you can't do nothing about.

-Dontay: Chris... I hope you not lying to me about something not worth
lying about. I don't want to have to find out something later. What's
really going on?

-Chris: Look, everything on my end is fine. You just be ready for Tuesday
night. Does your mother know I'm spending the day with you?

-Dontay: Uh... I haven't said anything and I don't think my sister knows
yet because Rodney is the person I've told. So unless those two idiots have
decided to speak for a couple of minutes, then my mother doesn't know.

-Chris: Well, we're gonna have some fun and we will finally be able to get
to know each other better.

-Dontay: That's more so the point of this.

-Chris: And to catch up on some lovin'. We've been missing it.

-Dontay: You're right.

-Chris: I know I am. Talk to you later?

-Dontay: Fa sho'

The time was close to 10 at night and Dontay's mother came to his room to
tell him the things she expects him to do while the rest of family is gone
for the wedding.

Dontay's mother walks in him room while he is lying on his bed watching
television.

Dontay's mother says, "What's up, big boy?"

Dontay says, now sitting up, "Hey ma. Are you guys all packed?"

She says, "Everyone except for your sister. She's acting like she doesn't
want to go."

Dontay says after hoping that she does go, "Why not? She loves going to
Chicago."

His mother says, "She claims that she doesn't want to leave you alone."

Dontay says, "I know that you didn't believe that."

His mother says, "I sure as in hell didn't. She's going. Besides I'm glad
you're staying by yourself because I need the grass cut so you can do that
while we're gone."

Dontay said, "No problem."

His mother said, "Alright. That's really all I want you to do."

Dontay said, "Alright ma."

His mother said while walking out the door, "Oh yeah and pay the cell phone
bill too while I'm gone."

Dontay said, "Alright. I got you."

After his mother left and about a minute later his sister Ryane came to his
room. She was standing at the door with her arms folded saying,

"So why in the world you want to stay in this hellhole called `Detroit'
instead of spending and luxurious day in Chicago?"

Dontay turned around because he was startled when she started speaking and
said, "Because I don't feel like going to a wedding. And you know Leah is
not going to stay married to this guy. She's 30 and this is her 3rd
marriage."

Ryane said walking over to sit on the small couch in his room, "Yeah
right. You'll find a way to get out of it once we're there just like the
last time, Mr. I-Ate-A-Bad-Steak."

Dontay said sitting next to her, "Ok you're right. I did find a way to get
out of it but that was just 3 years ago. Think about it."

Ryane said, "I don't care what you say. You're not just going be sitting
here."

Ryane thought for a moment and said, "You little shit! You're going to be
with Chris aren't you?"

Dontay said, "What make you say that?"

Ryane said, "Big brother, I unfortunately have this little bond with you
where I know how your mind works. You've already told me that you're not
really sure you can trust Chris. This is the perfect opportunity for you to
get to know him."

Dontay said, "Look I don't know where you're getting all of this from but
you have no idea what you're talking about."

Ryane now disgusted because her brother is not telling her something for
the first time and she knew it had to be something kind of big.

Ryane said, "I bet Todd knows."

Dontay said, "No he doesn't."

Ryane said, "I'll still ask him on our date tomorrow."

Dontay said, now grabbing his headphones and said, "Bad date talk."

Ryane said, "Well, I'll find out. I bet you."

Dontay said with a slight smile, "Whatever, little sis."

The next day, Monday, Dontay is sitting on his front porch with his
headphones on when he sees Todd's car pull up.



Todd gets out and approaches Dontay when Dontay says, "What are you doing
here so early? I hear your date isn't until 7:30."

Todd said extending his hand to Dontay, "I know bro. I just decided to come
over. I know that Ryane isn't here."

Dontay said, "Yeah, she's at the mall. You know you could have told me
right, despite what she says?"

Todd said, "Hey bro, I wanted to Saturday but she wanted to do it. You're
not mad right?"

Dontay said, "Why would I be? You're my best friend. You're a good dude,
man."

Todd said, "So I hear you're going to have the crib to yourself this week?"

Dontay said in a suspicious way, "Yeah, I sure am."

Todd said, "So... what you're going to be doing here by yourself for that
whole day and a half? Want me to come chill with you?"

Dontay said, "Todd, nigga you ain't slick! Ryane sent you over here didn't
she?"

Todd said laughing, "Yeah, you got me bro. She really wants to know what
you're going to be doing. She taught you'd tell me."

Dontay said, "You all may know later this week. Bunch of asshole's man."

Todd said, "You're not even gonna be here yourself, are you? You're gonna
be at Chris' apartment, ain't you?"

Dontay said, "No, no I'm not."

Todd said, getting up from the porch step and said, "Well, I don't care
what you do."

Todd puts on his sunglasses in a dramatic way and said, "I'm out. I'll be
back."

Dontay said, "Alright."
