Coincidence or Faith Chapter 4

Recap: A man, Adam, and a boy, Tim, met on top of a cliff. They were there
to kill themselves for one reason or another. They went back to Adam's
house, where they fell asleep. Then Tim woke up Adam and said he heard
something which turned out to be Adam's dad, Don. They went and ate then
Adam told Don that he was going to kill himself and why. After Adam was
done, Don got up, walked over to Adam and..

Don gave Adam another hug and said, "It's all right, it'll be all right. I
don't hate you. I already knew."

Adam pulled away and said, "What? You already knew?"

"Yeah, I just wish I knew how depressed you were though." Don said.

"How?" Adam asked, "How did you know?"

"Well, you remember last year when you went on vacation?" Don asked.

Adam nodded and said "Yeah."

"Well when you were gone my computer got messed up and so I used yours."
Don says, "I'm sorry that I didn't ask, but I didn't think it would have
been a problem. Anyway I got online and went to type an address in, a
weird name would show up so I checked it out and it turned out to be a
message board of sorts. But had to do with, well what you like. At first
I didn't know what to think, but I want you to know I never hated you. I
noticed what you were signed in as and went to check out what you put there
and from what I saw I knew what you liked and would never hurt a kid. So
after that I just kept my eye on you, and noticed how your gaze would go
toward a boy every now and then. I also visited that site some more every
once and awhile, but never joined just read. I haven't been there in a
month. How are things there by the way?"

Adam was shocked to say the least. He couldn't believe what his dad just
told him. How stupid he was for not getting rid of the evidence when he
went on his trip, and for looking at boys while with his dad. But he was
also relieved. His dad knew all this time and treated him the same, never
said anything bad to him. Actually visited the site more just to keep up
with him. If that wasn't a father's love he didn't know what was. After a
minute of complete silence, Adam realized his dad's last question and said,
"Well everyone is good there, of course some had a scare when I posted that
I was going to kill myself, but don't worry I already posted that I didn't.
I haven't told them why I didn't yet though, I'll do that later. I just
can't believe that you knew all this time and didn't say anything. And
that you.you don't hate me."

"Of course I don't." Don says, "I'm just sorry that you had to almost kill
yourself for you to find out, and that I didn't see just how depressed you
were."

"It's not your fault." Adam says, "I hid my depression from everyone, but
that's over with. Now we have to figure out what to do about Tim." Adam
reached over and gave Tim a hug.

"Yes and about Tim, why were you trying to kill yourself?" Don asked.

Tim looked at Don then at the floor. All he could get out of his mouth
was "Umm." He just couldn't say anything, he was ashamed. Adam saw this
and asked, "Do you want me to tell him?" Tim looked at Adam and nodded.
And so Adam told his dad the story that Tim told him. About how his
cousins got him to do stuff and he liked it but then they wanted more and
said no and got beat up for it. Then got blamed by his aunt and thrown
out. By the time he was done telling the story Don was holding Tim, who
was crying again.

"It'll be all right Tim. You'll see." Don said trying to comfort the poor
boy.

Tim finally stopped and gave Don a hug and said, "Thanks." Then he got up
and gave Adam another hug and told both of them that he was going to the
bathroom and would be right back.

"Poor kid. What you going to do with him?" Don asked.

"I don't know. What can I do?" Adam says, "All I do know is that I'm not
letting him go back to that place."

"It's not as easy as that Adam." Don says, "There are laws about this sort
of stuff you know."

"I know but I got to do something, but what?" Adam said.

"Well I'll talk to Bill from the Waffle House. He's a lawyer, maybe he can
help." Don said.

"Really? That would be great. Let me know as soon as you do." Adam says,
"Oh and dad, thanks for everything."

Just as Adam got done talking Tim came back into the room and sat down next
to Adam. Adam put his arm around Tim and said, "Well little man, how would
you like to stay here at least for a little while?"

"Really? You mean I can stay?" Tim asked.

"Yes for now anyway." Adam says, "Dad over there is going to talk to a
lawyer friend and we'll see what else we can do."

"But would he after he finds out how we met?" Tim asked.

"Good question. We'll come up with something to tell him." Adam says,
"But for now what do yaw want to do, it's still early."

"I dunno." Tim replied.

"Well I got an idea of what you two need to do." Don said.

"What?" Both Adam and Tim asked.

"If I'm not mistaken I think Tim there needs some clothes." Don said.

Adam looked over at Tim, who was looking down at himself. "You know you're
right." Adam says, "I think that we should go get him some right now."

"Yaw two go, I'm going to head on home." Don said.

"You sure?" Adam said and Don nodded. "OK then, just don't forget to talk
to Bill."

"I won't. You two have fun." Don said and then got up and gave both Adam
and Tim a hug before leaving.

"Well are you ready to go get you some clothes?" Adam asked.

"You don't have to. I'm all right with these." Tim said.

"I know I don't have to, but I want to." Adam says, "Look I'll never have
any kids of my own, so if you will grant me one thing, let me treat you
like the son I've always wanted. Think you can do that?"

"Yeah, I can do that." Tim answered with teary eyes and a smile.

"Good, then lets get cleaned up and get going." Adam said while getting
up.

Adam pulled Tim up with him and went to the bathroom to wash their faces.
After that they left to get some clothes for Tim. They shopped for over an
hour, with Tim modeling jeans, shorts, and shirts that they both liked.
They bought a few of each along with socks, briefs and boxers, and shoes.
And after some convincing by Adam, finally got Tim to pick out some games
and other stuff to play with. Before they left they also got some
toiletries for Tim. Once the shopping was done they went back to Adam's
house and unpacked the car. Adam cleared some of his drawers out for Tim
to use. And when they were done putting the stuff away Tim went to watch
TV. Adam noticed a message on his machine so listened to it.

"Hey it's me." The voice, who was Don, said, "I saw Bill after I left,
we're going to meet him tomorrow morning so I'll be there at seven to pick
you two up. Bye."

Adam went and told Tim what his dad said and then went to get online. He
chatted with a few friends that were online at the time. They all wanted
to know if he was all right and what was going on with him. He explained
about the nightmares and the depression. And then he told them about Tim
and even what happened with his dad. He chatted for at least half an hour
when Tim came to see what he was doing. Adam told him that he was chatting
with some friends online.

"Can I chat with them?" Tim asked.

"Sure give me a few minutes to say good-bye OK." Adam said.

"OK, just let me know when I can." Tim said and went back to the living
room.

Adam said his good-byes and told them that Tim wanted to chat with them so
don't go scaring him. He was joking with them of course. He then made a
quick post about what has happened up till now on the message board he
visits. After that he went to get Tim, who was watching TV.

"It's all yours Tim." Adam says, "Do you know what to do?"

"Yeah, I know how it works." Tim says, "I haven't been on awhile but I
know."

"OK, now these friends of mine, well they're like me." Adam said.

"Like you?" Tim asked.

"Yeah, you know. Most of them are boylovers, some are just gay but they're
not on right now." Adam responded.

"Oh OK, do they know about me?" Tim asks, "I mean do they know how we
met?"

"Yes, but don't worry. If they ask and you don't want to talk about it
just say so they'll understand and won't keep at you." Adam answered

"OK, well I'm off then." Tim said and left to get online.

"Did you want something to snack on. I'm going to get me a bowl of ice
cream, you want some?" Adam asked.

"Yeah that would be great." Tim said.

"Cool. Chocolate or Cookies and Cream?" Adam asked.

"Hmm, Chocolate please." Tim answered.

"Coming right up." Adam said and went to get the ice cream.

When Adam came back with the ice cream, Tim was chatting with Pete, Shadow,
and Mike in a four-way chat. Mike was one of Adam's closest friends. They
met from the board that Adam met Pete from. It was during a Chess
tournament that the board was having. They became good friends online and
off-line. Mike lived about 300 miles away from Adam, so they meet every
other month. And so they are pretty close. Anyway Tim seemed to be having
fun chatting with them, so Adam set Tim's bowl down and let him know. Then
he went to the living room to watch some TV himself. After a few minutes,
Tim came in the room with his ice cream and sat down next to Adam on the
couch.

"What's up? Already done chatting?" Adam asked.

"Yeah, I told them I was going to come watch TV with you and talk to them
later." Tim said.

"Cool, so did they pester you any? Hehe." Adam said.

"Nah, they're cool. They hope that everything goes OK and wished us luck."
Tim said.

"That sounds like them. So what you want to watch?" Adam asked.

"Don't know. Anything I guess." Tim said.

Adam flipped through the channels till he found something they both agreed
on and watched it while they finished their ice cream. Once it was gone,
Adam took the bowls to the kitchen and came back. They watched TV for
awhile and chit-chatted when commercials came on but other then that it was
silent, both were thinking about tomorrow. Finally, Adam suggested that
they get ready for bed since they would have to get up early. So he sent
Tim for a shower while he cleaned up the kitchen. When Tim was done Adam
took a shower. At first Adam was going to sleep on the couch but Tim
talked him to sleeping in the bed again.

"MONSTER! CHILDMOLESTER! MOTHERFUCKER!" The crowd said over and over, as
they beat the man lying on the ground. He tried to cover his head with his
hands, but they were using sticks, bats, and what ever they could get. It
had broken his hands, and blood was leaking from his ears. All he could do
was cry and wish to die. Everyone stopped suddenly, he turned over to see
a silhouette of a man holding a gun, and it was aimed right between his
eyes. Then there was a kid standing between, he was saying something.
What was he saying? He couldn't hear him. Then there was nobody but the
two of them. They were on a cliff; the boy was about to jump. But he
grabbed the kid's hand and pulled him away from the edge and held him in
his arms. Then he looked at the boy's face and he looked so familiar.
Then they were outside playing catch with a baseball. He was having fun.
He started hearing a buzzing sound that kept getting louder and louder.

Adam woke up from the dream with a smile. He turned off the alarm and woke
Tim up, which wasn't easy. They both did their morning ritual and got
ready for Don to come get them. It was going to be a long day.
