College Town (Part Eleven)

Finally, I freed myself of the temptation that consumed me and Garrett
was free to be himself.

I still thought it was unreal to be playing matchmaker in such a
subversive way. If Brian kept his temper in check and Rachel kept the
peace, Garrett might avoid becoming the typical suicidal kid who would
rather die than live a lie.

I said good night to Rachel and fixed some dinner for myself ^Ö spaghetti
and garlic bread. I finished off the Coca-Cola that sat in the fridge to
the point of near flatness.

I finished my meal when my door beckoned me again.

"It's a busy place tonight," I mumbled to myself.

Garrett and someone I assumed was Nick were at the door. I ushered them
both inside and sat in the living room with them. I lounged in the
armchair and they sat together on the couch.

"What brings you two here?" I asked.

Garrett grinned. He looked like he was relieved of terrible pain.

"Thanks, Chad. I don't know what you said to Mom but^Å"

I stopped him.

"I think your father should take some of the credit."

"Nah," said Nick, "He's just trying to stay out of jail."

"But how? I mean how did you get your parents to be so cool about
Nick?"

"You did that for us. It's like your approval mattered to them or
something."

From the looks of Nick, I understood why Garrett was attracted to him.

Nick had jet-black hair and olive skin. His brown eyes were a slightly
obscured by his bangs that draped over his forehead. His frame made me
estimate his age to be sixteen. His build suggested someone who was in
shape but not a slave to the gym.

Our conversation was friendly. I got to know Nick better. He was held
back in ninth grade and was eager to drop out at the end of the year. He
hung out with Garrett after school often and walked home from school with
him.

Their kissing came from Garrett's curiosity. He wanted to know what it
was like to be intimate in the way of kissing or hugging. That's when
Brian caught the two, Nick explained.

"He went off like a missile. It's not like we were butt fucking in the
parking lot!"

We all laughed but I was tense on the inside.

Did Nick know about my weekend with Garrett?

"Well, looks like you took care of that already," Nick impishly quipped
to me.

I never blushed like that before and never since. How does one react to
that kind of comment? He really called me out on that one.

We went way beyond what Garrett did with Nick. I just hoped that this
would not ruin any of their chances for being in a relationship.

Nick answered that question for me.

"Don't shit or anything. I hope I didn't embarrass you!"

I shook my head no.

"We were just messing around. Just to see what it was like. It's not
like I own him or anything."

I gazed at the window and wondered what was going to happen next. I
thought that Garrett was going to go into `happily ever after mode'
with this friend but it didn't quite work out that way. Was I going to
wash my hands of him so soon?

Garrett winked at me and then rushed to sit in my lap.

I assumed that I was going to be the cover for Garrett and his friend to
do as they wanted. I didn't think that Nick was going to be the one
covering for me.

Garrett deliberately ground himself into me like a calculating lap
dancer.

"See, Nick, I turn him on!"
