Ferret.

Chapter Five.

Chris ruffled my hair, as he grabbed a phone and started to punch numbers.
Billy ran upstairs bagsying the shower first. Bobby wandered up as well,
looking for his clothes.

I started up the stairs, but stayed behind, hiding just out of sight, to
listen to Chris on the phone. Rude I know, but I have this inner desire to
know that people aren't going to fuck me over.

"Hi Will, it's Chris Franklin, not bad how are you, great, listen I have a
delicate situation that needs sorting and I want the best man on the job to
take care of it."

I saw Chris wander back into the lounge, picking up a t-shirt that Billy
had left.

"Yeah, I need you to start whatever process is needed for me to get custody
of three lads that I rescued off the streets last night. Oh yeah, they are
absolutely adorable, and I have lost my heart to all three of them already,
well when I bring them in to meet you later you'll see what I mean."

Chris picked up a remote and flicked on his tv, muting it and starting
browsing the teletext pages.

"I think all three are gay, but they are still too young to label them.
Two are twins, Billy and Bobby aged twelve, and the third is a ten year old
who is only known as Ferret. <chuckles> yeah I know I need a proper name,
but he is mega defensive over details, and from what he's told me I don't
blame him. If he's told me the truth, which I don't believe he would not,
he saw his Mother murdered when he was eight, and he was raped before her
body was cold."

I heard his voce crack slightly when he said this, before a strength came
into it. "I want these kids off the street and into a good safe
environment before anything worse happens to them. I will not allow
anything to happen to any of them."

He was silent for a moment, obviously listening to this Will.

"Yeah, we'll be there about three. You're the best Will, that's why I pay
you so much!"

Chris finished his call.

"You wanna come in here Ferret?" he said to me.

I wandered back into the lounge and sat down on the sofa, next to Chris.

"Um, I'm sorry," I mumbled.

Chris pulled me into a hug, reassuring me.

"It's okay kiddo, but it is impolite to do that," Chris said. "What did
you hear?"

I summarized what I'd heard, talking down into my chest.

"I'm really sorry, please don't punish Bobby or Billy for it. I'll get my
stuff and leave so they can stay." I said, tears dripping down my face.

Chris moaned as he realised what was going through my mind, and hugged me
tighter and kissed my forehead.

"Ferret, you aren't going anywhere," he said. "I meant what I said to my
lawyer about trying to get custody of all three of you, and if I do, I know
sometimes you guys are gonna screw up."

I giggled slightly through the tears at his comment.

"When you do, I'm not going to throw you out on the streets. We'll talk
about what you did, why you did it and what you can do not to do it again,
okay?" Chris stated, finishing with a little bit of tickling and hugging.

"Why?" I asked.

"Why what?" Chris responded. "Why won't I throw you out on the streets?"

I shook my head. "Why do you want us? Is it just so you can like, screw
us or summit?" I mumbled into my chest.

Chris pulled me tighter into him, and slowly and softly stroked my hair.

"Ferret, I used to be a street kid when I was young. I was whoring myself
around from when I was eleven until I was fifteen."

I looked up confused. "Whatchya do, win the lottery or summit?"

Chris chuckled slightly, and I saw his eyes gaze as though he had travelled
back in time.

"Yeah I did, you see I met a really great guy when I was fifteen. His name
was Jack, and he picked me up one night after I'd been raped by a gang of
guys who were supposed to be customers." Chris said gently.

I teared up, remembering the treatment I'd had at the hands of Mickey.

"He took me in that night, cleaned me up and we talked, amongst other
things," Chris continued. "He was in his forties at the time, but I'd done
it with guys of all ages by then, so I just thought he was another paying
client. As it turned out, I lost my heart to him, and he to me, and he
adopted me. Jack owned his own business and had made a lot of money
through it. He looked after me real good, and got me clean and off the
streets and into a loving home."

I saw a tear begin to fall down his cheek, so I wiped it gently away with
my hand.

"I was with Jack for many years, until he died four years ago last
Christmas," Chris whispered. "He had set up a charity to help street kids,
and I continued his work after he passed on. I still remember what it was
like for me, and I want to help anyone I can escape that life."

Of course, I was a blubbering mess by this stage and hugged Chris firmly.
We were loudly interrupted by the twins bounding downstairs.

"Fezza, showers free!" Bobby yelled.

"Yeah come on Fez, we wanna go shop!" Billy grinned, backing his brother
up.

Chris gave me a kiss on the top of my head, lifted me off him and swatted
my butt, telling me to go shower.

I finally got to take my shower, after the several aborted attempts of the
last twenty four hours, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Chris had this really
great shower foam that really tingled and foamed everywhere. I tried to
wash my hair, but realised I shouldn't have when I got shampoo in my eyes,
which really hurt like fuck. After a few tears and several minutes stood
under the water trying to wash it out, I could just about see again, and
decided I was clean enough.

I got out, dried myself on one of the large fluffy towels that Chris seemed
to have in abundance, and pulled on some of my clothes that I'd got out of
my bag. I looked at myself in the mirror and realised how much of a street
kid I did actually look. My jeans were dirty and were beginning to get a
bit threadbare, and my t-shirt was definitely getting tight on me. I
pulled on my trainers and headed back downstairs.

Chris was wrestling with the twins, who were double teaming him. I jumped
into the fray to rescue Chris, catching both of the brothers unaware,
allowing Chris to get the fall to win the match up.

Billy shot me an evil glare as Chris hugged me and gave me a peck on the
cheek before setting me down.

"Come on then guys, let's go shop!" he said, taking my hand and leading us
out into the garage.

I thought about the jealous look that Billy had given me and refused
Chris's offer of shotgun, electing to go in the back, allowing Billy to
ride up front next to Chris.

I may be young, but I'm not unobservant. Billy has the major hots for
Chris, and I'm certainly not gonna stand in the way of someone who I'd seen
kill another boy, even if it was to defend me. Billy definitely had a
mean, tough side, that neither Bobby nor I had.

We talked about everything and nothing in particular as we drove to the
local shopping centre. Chris parked up, and was unprepared for the
reaction of the three of us as we realised we could shop till we dropped.
Well, he had told us that money was no object!

We stopped firstly at a small, independent male clothes shop. Chris was
struggling to keep up with Billy and Bobby as they charged in, looking at
everything they could, wanting to try everything the liked on.

I wandered in slowly behind them, looking at everything, and not just the
clothes. Call me paranoid, but it is always something I'd done for the
last couple of years. If you are aware of a potential threat, then the
risk level goes down, so I saw him coming before he even realised anyone
else had seen him.

"GET ON THE FUCKING FLOOR BEFORE I BLOW YOUR FUCKING HEADS OFF!" the masked
robber shouted.

The assistant behind the counter cringed and I saw a dark stain grow across
the front of his trousers. I looked around and saw Chris grabbed the twins
and haul them into a changing booth out of the way.

For some reason, I'd managed to keep myself from the robber's view, working
my way around a pedestal full of shirts.

"Get that fucking till open and give me all the money before I pump you
full of lead!" the robber yelled again at the clerk, who could barely keep
his hands still from shaking.

I picked up an empty clothes hanger, twisting it to form a nice stabbing
implement, and held it down by my side. I walked around the display of
clothes and `bumped' into the man, knocking his arm that held the gun so
that it swung away from me and the clerk.

"Oh sorry sir," I apologised, trying to make it look I didn't know what was
happening.

"What the fuh," the man managed to get out, before I stabbed him in the arm
with my newly fashioned weapon.

"FUCKING BRAT!" he shouted, trying to swing at me.

I stabbed him again, this time aiming lower, and heard him grunt. I backed
away, as he lurched forwards, but was suddenly pulled backwards. I looked
up and saw the mall security pinning him down. I was suddenly lifted off
my feet and turned away from the scene by strong arms.

"Ferret, what the fuck were you thinking?" Chris sobbed out. "You could
have been killed!"

I looked up at him, knowing I wasn't in trouble, and calmly replied, "I
couldn't let him shoot that man, it would be wrong."

The clerk came over, almost crying, thanking me, Chris and anyone else he
could see. He gave me a big hug after Chris had let me go, which was a
little uncomfortable as he'd wet himself, before the store owner told him
that he could have the rest of the day off. He refused, saying he just
needed to freshen up before returning to work, now that the trouble was
over.

"Mr Franklin, my name is John Lewis, and I own this store," he said as way
of an introduction. "Your fine son has not only stopped that man robbing
the store, which while would have been troublesome, he also acted bravely
in ensuring that no-one was hurt and helped to apprehend the criminal."

Chris looked down at me, and I just had a goofy grin on my face, as it
dawned on me how stupid I'd just been, attacking a man with a gun.

"What ever you had come in to buy today is free of charge," Mr Lewis said.

Chris started to object, pointing out we were there to buy three new
wardrobes, but Mr Lewis overrode his objections.

"At the end of the day, that man could have injured or killed my nephew who
was working the counter today. I am forever in your son's debt."

We spent the next hour choosing clothes, modelling them for Chris, and
Dave, Mr Lewis's nephew. It definitely got interesting when we were
choosing our underwear and swimming trunks. The twins of course felt no
need to either close the curtain of the changing booth, or even enter into
them, so the two men were treated to a lot of their naked bodies. I could
see Dave definitely getting interested in the pair of them, and he kept
looking at me to see if I was going to give a show as well. I didn't.

After loading the counter with various outfits, Chris said the sentence
that most kids dread, and that the three of us probably never expected to
hear again.

"I also need to get these three uniforms for Churchill School," Chris said.

That certainly put a stop to our merriment.

"SCHOOL UNIFORMS?" Bobby asked, not quietly.

Chris and Dave both laughed.

"Yeah, if you're gonna stop with me, you need to go school, and that's the
best one around, so get used to it lads," Chris informed us.

"Ah man, fuckin school, I thought we'd never hafto go again," Billy
complained, which brought him a very soft clip round the ear.

Dave looked quizzically at Chris, but Chris shrugged it off and before long
we were fully equipped with white polo shirts, white short and long sleeved
shirts, navy blazers, grey trousers, grey knee length socks, shiny black
shoes, and worst of all, a horrible set of red and blue ties. Man, surely
they couldn't expect a kid to get dressed up like this?

After we'd loaded the bags into the boot of the car, we headed back inside
the mall for the most important event of the day, lunch!

Billy voted for Mackie Dees, Bobby for Pizza Hut, Chris wanted something
more refined, Spud-U-Like! I was just happy to be able to have a proper
meal again so I said I didn't care.

"Come on Fez," Billy whined. "You got the deciding vote, you know how much
you love Big Macs!"

"HEY NO FAIR!" Bobby complained. "You love pizzas more than Big Macs
though dontcha."

It felt great to have both of the twins begging me to choose their
favourite option, but I really wasn't fussed. As I said, for the third
time on the trot, my meal wasn't going to be scrounged out of a skip, or
bought with stolen money.

"What toppings can you get Chris?" I asked, totally flooring our new would
be Dad.

"Um, anything you want within reason, cheese, tuna, chicken, chilli," he
stumbled out. "There's a big menu behind the counter."

"Spud-u-like it is then!" I yelled, grabbing Bobby's hand, pulling him in
the direction of the hot potato shop and away from his beloved pizzas.

"But, but, but" both brothers were protesting, as Chris laughed, picking up
Billy and carrying him physically into the restaurant.

We sat at a table near the window so we could people watch while we ate.
Chris and Bobby both ordered tuna and sweetcorn toppings, Billy went for
cheese and coleslaw, like YUK!, and I decided upon chilli con carne.

"So you gonna try to adopt us then Chris?" I asked between mouthfuls.

Both twins stopped eating at the same time, spoons just away from their
mouths.

"Thanks Ferret, I was waiting until we'd been to see my lawyer," Chris
sighed.

"REALLY?" Billy said, almost bouncing in his seat with excitement. "You
mean we would get to stay with you forever?"

"Yes, really, guys," Chris said. "I've helped a lot of kids get themselves
off the streets, but you guys have somehow filled an empty place in my
heart. If you guys really want me to, I'd love to try to get you to stay
permanently with me."

Chris was engulfed in hugs by the pair of them as I sat there, watching
them and eating my potato. Chris noticed me not joining in the hug and
looked quizzically at me.

"I'll get excited when it's all true," I said simply. "I don't want to get
my hopes up."

Chris reached over and ruffled my hair and held his hand on my face for a
moment, gently caressing it, like I imagined a father would do wit his son.

"Well, we have to go and see my lawyer on the way home, so let's get
finished up here." Chris instructed.

We wolfed down the remains of our meals and left the restaurant, heading
back to the car. The drive to Chris's lawyer's offices took less than a
couple of songs on the radio and we looked up in awe at the huge building.
We were definitely in a posh area!

"Can I help you sir?" the lady behind the reception desk asked.

"Mr Franklin and associates to see Will Young, we have an appointment."
Chris said.

She typed a few keys on her computer and looked back.

"Yes sir, please take the elevator. He is on the 38th floor."

We piled into the elevator and Chris pushed the button marked 38. I had an
evil thought and started pushing buttons, managing to hit at least a dozen
before Chris realised what I was doing and grabbed me.

"What are you doing?" he asked, as I fell into him, giggling.

"Um, pushing buttons like you did Dad!" I gasped out, between gasps and
giggles.

"You know that we are going to stop on every floor that you pressed don't
you?"

"Uh-uh, that's what was funny," I giggled.

"Aw man Fezz, it's gonna take forever to get there and I need to piss like
a horse!' Bobby complained.

"I know!" I laughed out. "I saw you holding it, like you always do when
you need to go bad!" I cracked up again at the look on his face, and Billy
joined in as well. Chris was trying not to laugh, scolding us for causing
Bobby distress.

"All we need to do now is tickle `im!" I yelled, but Chris had foreseen
this and held me tight.

"Hate you sometimes you know Fez!" Bobby said grumpily.

"You know I know you don't mean that!' I whimpered out, fluttering my
eyelids, giving him my best puppy dog eyes.

"Fuck you!" he giggled, "Aw man I need it badly!" He grabbed himself
trying to hold it in.

The elevator finally, after many stops made it to the 38th floor. Bobby
was out of the lift before it even stopped moving, and ran straight to the
door marked "Gentleman". The rest of us left the lift more sedately and
sat on the comfy seats in a reception area. A relieved Bobby joined us
after a few moments, and we were soon shown into the offices of one Mr
William Young.

I envisioned him being an old fart type lawyer, but he was actually quite
young, and decent looking as well. He certainly caught Bobby's fancy.
Short, almost shaven brown hair, brown eyes, slim body beneath what looked
like very expensive clothes.

"Chris, it's good to see you again," he said, shaking Chris's hand. He
took turns shaking our hands, first Bobby who looked a bit flushed at the
contact, then Billy, who returned immediately to Chris's side, then mine.

"So this is Bobby, Billy and um, Ferret?" Will said.

We all nodded.

"Has Chris explained why you are here?"

"Ferret said that Chris wanted to maybe adopt us like," Billy gushed.

"That's right Billy," Will said. "There are a lot of things that have to
happen first though before that can take place. I have to do a thorough
search on your backgrounds and family to see if there are any relatives who
may have a legal claim on your custody. However, before we start that, I
need some details about the three of you, such as full names, date of
birth, where you were born, stuff like that."

"I'm Billy Anderson," said, um , Billy of course! "I'm 12 years old, my
birthday is August 14th, and I was born in St Francis's hospital, Peckham."

"Guess you must know that I'm Bobby Anderson then," Bobby said laughing.
"The rest is the same as him, except I was born on the 15th."

Will and Chris both looked confused, and I giggled knowing the full story.

"Billy was born at 11.59pm on the 14th and Bobby three minutes later at
12.02am on the 15th. I think they must be the only twins in the world with
different birthdays!" I explained.

Will wrote all this down on a jotter pad, before turning to me.

"Um, my name is..."

End of chapter.

Da Da Daaaaaaarrrrrrrrrr!!!

Oh no, not another end of chapter, just when we were so close to learning
our Ferret's name. Does he even know it? I'm thinking not, after all
these close calls. Something always seems to come up and he never has to
tell!

Well, it looks like Chris is serious in taking them in and doing the right
thing by them. Just a shame Pete didn't hang about really isn't it. I
thought though that Chris was a bit nasty in the shop, making them get
school uniforms!

Oh well, until the next chapter my friends.

Please let me know if you like or dislike where I'm going with this story
(if you can figure it out, cos I sure can't!) Just kidding!!! I have a
very major plot line coming up in a couple of chapters time which will run
for some time, so don't worry.
