Subject: First Season chapter 10

Hi...

Now that I have give you readers a chance to get back into this story I
thought I would write a little something... I have received a few e mails
regarding this story so far since I continued it and all have been
favorable. For that I thank you. Now I have enough of this story to
continue for a while and I can write more to bring us through next football
season. ITS all up to you, the readers... just let me know if you are
enjoying it and I will gladly keep working on it for all of you. Thanks,
Dwedno.

Chapter 10.   	 Dealing with new love and a horrific problem.



As I searched my mind for the right words to say, if there are such
words. I thought about how things could be and wondered if that angle would
work. Maybe, but not just yet. We have to get this behind us. I continued
to look for the right words to express what just happened. We were all just
sitting there and wondering what would happen now. I felt like I wanted to
die now.

"JR! JR! Wake up!

"Huh? What. I opened my eyes. Oh hey Nicky what's going on?"

"You tell me JR. We were all playing in the pool and having a blast and
then I got out of the pool and found you asleep here."

"You mean nothing happened with..."

I stopped short of saying it. I got up and they were in the pool, Bastion
and Matt. What an unbelievable thing! I can't fathom it. Holly SHIT! I fell
asleep. None of that happened. I just dreamt it all. Thankfully. I mean in
my mind I wish it could but damn! I thought for sure...

"Oh sorry Nick. I had a weird dream while I was asleep."

"I could tell something happened, you were mumbling and well I wouldn't say
this in front of the others but when I got out of the pool I came over here
because of how you were acting and you, well coach you had a hard on. That
must have been some dream."

I smiled at Nick.

"If you only knew Nicky, I wish I could tell you but I'd rather not."

"Yeah well from the bulge in your shorts I can imagine how good it was."

Nicky liked my bulge. That's good. Who knows what that means? Wait a minute
didn't I just go through that in that dream? Well anyway...

"It was! Most of it anyway. What time is it?"

I looked at my watch. 7:00. Damn! Not only did I break my own rule about
letting the kids swim unsupervised, I got this hard on in front of Nick all
over a freaking dream! Well Tommy had left. I know that was real when it
happened and I took him home but I guess I fell asleep when I got
back. Yeah I sat while they went back into the pool and damn! That was
fast. I fell asleep like I was nothing! But anyway the good news is that
was just a dream and neither Nick nor Matt got hurt. I am definitely going
to have to be more careful about everything from now on! I don't want to go
through that in reality!

"Okay Boys lets go out of the pool please. Bastion I thought you went
home?"

"I did but I was bored so I came back. You were asleep on the chair so I
didn't want to bother you. I just joined them in the pool. We were really
good JR. I am sorry if I did something wrong."

"No, no Bastion. I did. I never should have fallen asleep. Don't worry
about it this one I will take the blame for."

"Guys, please, if that ever happens again someone wake me. You all know how
strict I am about the pool and adult supervision and I don't mean wake me
with a pool bath either!"

"Sorry JR." said Nick

"Yeah, sorry about that JR. I didn't think about it we were having too much
fun."

"Well Matt, in the future. Please?"

"Sure, I will check and make sure you're awake."

"Don't say it like your baby sitting me smart guy!"

He laughed at that and went to dry off. Ahh well a great day with one
little part ruined but only in my mind.

"I suppose since everyone is okay we will forget about it and just make
sure it never happens again."

They all agreed and that ended it. Now I get to watch the cuties dry off
their awesome bodies and a second look at Bastion, he he. I was awake now
for sure but the thoughts of what I dreamt of still lingered in my
head. Damn! That was so amazing and so was Tommy! They were all toweled off
or close to it and Bastion was the first to get ready to go.

"Leaving again?"

"Yes sir, but this time for the night. Thanks for everything."

"Your welcome Bastion and you know how to get back here so anytime..."

"I know that JR, thanks for reminding me. Bye,"

"Bye."

He said his good byes to the others and for the second time today he was
leaving me. It was silly to keep saying good-bye since he was only two
houses away. I could even see him in his yard if I looked hard enough from
the top by the pool. But that was how we did it and it wasn't wrong. Nick
headed inside and I followed him with Matt just behind. The warm day had
cooled off only from the clouds that had rolled in and in the distance I
could now hear thunder and knew if not directly soon someone was going to
have rain. The winds kicked up a little but it didn't matter since the
three of us were safe inside as was Bastion by now. Quick moving storms
were frequent around here this time of year besides the fact that the heat
from the day probably helped a lot. I joined the others and watched them
quietly to see how the thunder bothered them before asking. Neither seemed
to pay much attention until it got loud and quite dark outside. Matt came
over to me first.

"What's up pal?"

"I am not a big fan of storms."

"Neither am I." Chimed in Nick.

"Well boy's it looks like we are about to have one."

A huge flash of lightning lit up the outside and was followed by a loud
clap of thunder that shook the house and rattled their nerves. Didn't look
too pretty outside now and then the rain started to fall. And it poured
like never before! Well it had been a while anyway since I remembered
seeing it rain that hard. Even hail was mixed in it. I was at the window
watching it since I was quite fond of weather events and Nick and Matt were
at my side like scared puppies without their mom around. Another loud clap
brought them close to me. I wanted to laugh but it was serious. The weather
radio went off in the next room and I hurried over to listen. They had just
issued a tornado warning for the area and the boys didn't like the sound of
it so I had to explain that a warning was ok the tornado watch was the bad
one. It meant it was already on the ground and heading somewhere. My phone
rang and the lights went out with the next flash. One of them yelled out
with that and I assumed that the phone rang once just from the close hit. I
picked it up and it was dead. Matt was now right next to me by the phone
and I had a pretty good idea of who screamed.

"It's gonna be okay pal. It's just a bad storm we are safe in here."

He said nothing but I held him to reassure him. Nick came over and looked
just as concerned. It was difficult to see with the darkness from the storm
but the flashes brought out the fear on their faces easily. I took both of
them to the couch and we sat down together. I held them both as the weather
radio chirped again. This time it was for a tornado watch and I realized we
could be in danger.

"Come on boys. I tried to say calmly. Let's get downstairs right now."

I lead them to the steps and the light from my flashlight guided us
down. We heard another blast of thunder outside and a huge crash. I could
only guess a tree got hit close by and hoped it was okay upstairs but at
the moment I was scared too and didn't want to let the boys know this. We
huddled together on my downstairs couch and I tried to calm them some. I
couldn't remember the last time we had a storm this bad but we were in it
now and in the safest place we could be. Although the windows in the
basement were small and hard to see out of they still shown well with the
light from the lightning outside. We heard sirens for a little bit but they
soon quieted and we were left with nothing but the storms whaling winds to
listen to again. It sounded like a freight train and I suddenly realized
that was what we were taught a tornado sounded like. I wanted to panic but
the boys were there so I just held them both tightly as the sound grew
louder outside. I was sure they didn't know and I wanted to keep it that
way. I thought to myself God I sure hope no one gets killed in the
neighborhood if it really touches down. I thought Matt was crying but it
was too noisy to really tell but they were both certainly attached to me as
close as possible. Another huge flash was followed by more deafening
thunder and once again Matt cried out.

"Make it stop. Please make it stop!"

I brought his head to me and kissed him on top of it and whispered into his
ear as best I could that he was okay and safe with me. He buried his head
into my chest and held me tightly. Nick was behind me but still touching me
as best as he could. At the moment my hands were full of Matt and I
couldn't do much for him. It started to quiet down outside and I started to
believe that the worst was over. It still was storming out but other then
the thunder it had now grown eerily quiet outside. I went to get up and
both of them grabbed me.

"NO! Please don't leave us!"

They practically screamed in unison.

"Okay guys. Relax now. The worst is over and I want to go upstairs and see
if this place is still in one piece."

I finally got Matt to let go of me and I got up a few minutes later.

"You two stay put for now. Keep your Asses on this couch unless I yell for
you."

"Yes sir!" Said Matt.

"Okay." Said Nick.

I got up and they seemed to be a little better. It looked a little brighter
outside from glaring at the windows before going upstairs. I got to the top
of the steps and cracked the door. I was still scared myself and didn't
have a clue what to expect. The door opened and I shined the flashlight
around. The beam showed everything in its proper place so far. I checked
all over and then went upstairs. Again everything was fine. Nothing
damaged. I heard more sirens outside and headed down and to the front
door. I opened it and got the shock of my life. Half of my neighborhood was
gone. The tornado hit hard across the street and pandemonium had broken
loose outside. I looked and my side of the street appeared untouched other
then tree limbs and leaves down on lawns. I wanted to go further but I had
to get back to the boys. I ran back in and down stairs.

"Boys. The house is fine we are okay just without power. BUT!"

They looked at me with terror in their eyes when I said but. I tried to
speak calmly but my voice broke and I almost lost it. I cleared my throat
and tried to tell them again.

"But what?" Nick said.

"The tornado struck across the street, practically the whole other side of
the street is gone."

Again I saw the fear, the terror in their eyes.

"Relax. We are okay. Now please listen to me. You can come upstairs but
under no circumstances are either of you allowed out of this house unless
it catches on fire or something. Understand!"

Both of them told me yes and we headed upstairs. It had brightened up
outside now that the storm had passed and they went to my front window and
as I watched them look I saw their mouths drop open as they saw what little
was left across the street. I looked at them and then they looked at
me. Both had tears in their eyes and seemed scared, I held them again
briefly and Nick was shaking, as was Matt.

"Okay boys I have to go and see if anyone is hurt or trapped. Please
remember stay in here no matter what!"

Both of them told me okay and watched me leave from the window. I headed
across the street and got a better look at the horrific damage. Amazingly
our whole side was untouched. Our block was pretty much standard size from
one side to the other maybe 20 feet of street and then lawns to the other
side. Nothing was left but some foundations and pieces of houses. No one
was on site yet from either the police or fire department, which made me
believe there was destruction in other parts of town too. Luckily as far as
I could tell my truck was totally untouched and there was another way out
of this neighborhood if I had to go to the fire department. I almost wished
I didn't have the boys because I would have taken off immediately for the
firehouse. But I was needed here. Before I could get across the street I
saw the first person on the ground. I approached and I didn't have to get
any closer I could see without a doubt they were dead. Without going into
details too deeply body parts were missing. I felt like I wanted to puke
but I had seen worse in fires so I fought the feeling back and moved on
down the street. Bastions house was fine and as I looked over he came out
and over to me.

"Stop! Don't come over here. Please!!!"

I didn't want him to see this person that looked like one of our elder
neighbors. It was too late though he saw her and started to scream. I ran
to him and picked him up and carried him back to his house. His mom was
there and I brought him into the house and put him on the couch. I briefly
told her what happened and she looked a little sick but understood. I
patted Bastion on the head and grabbed his mom's arm for support as I took
off back outside.

"I'll come back later Bonnie to see how he is but take care of him he saw a
pretty nasty thing and I don't know how he will handle it."

She nodded and I left to see if I could help out. Finally an engine and
police car had arrived. I ran up to them and it was one of our other
companies but I knew the guys just the same. I was quickly filled in on
what happened across town. Luckily? The storm only did minor damage where
it touched down by the school. The rest of the department was over there
fighting a house fire that was started by downed wires and this truck was
all that was free. It was close to mass hysteria but in a strange way!
Controlled now, to a degree! We looked and searched the remains of what was
left of the houses across the street. Eventually more help showed up and
freed me to go back to the boys. I talked to the on duty captain and told
him I had to go back to them and he understood and released me from duty
for now. In the short time I was gone I counted 7 houses destroyed and at
least 4 dead. Who knows how many were injured. I stopped back at Bastions
house and he let me in and gave me a big hug.

"Are you okay now pal?"

"Yeah but that lady, was it Mrs. Walker?"

"I'm afraid so Bastion."

He started to cry.

"She was so nice to me. He said through his tears. She looked so beat up
and just laying there in the street."

His mom came over and he went to her. I went to both of then and tried to
tell then it would be okay eventually. I rubbed Bastions head a little and
then I had to go.

"I'll see you later Bonnie. If you need anything I am just next door."

"Okay JR. Thanks a bunch." She gave me a little kiss on the cheek and I
left.

I went back home and fired up my generator I had in the garage and we had
lights and some power. The boys opened the door to the garage from the
house and ran out to me firing off questions faster then I could answer.

"Calm down boys. Please!"

Finally I could make out what they were saying. I answered as many
questions as I could and told them what I knew. At last I had them calm and
had to get in touch with their parents somehow. By now they had to be
panic-stricken with worry over their kids unless they hadn't heard what
happened yet.

"We need to find your parents guys so let's go into town. I am going to
leave a note on the door just incase they come by."

I wrote a long detailed note about how we were okay and we took off for a
phone that worked somewhere. My cell was still dead or that would have
solved the problem easily. Once we got off my block travel was quite
easy. We didn't see any other damage at all until we reached the center of
town. It was pretty beat up like my block was and there was still a lot of
confusion. We stopped by Matt's house and his mom was there and almost
hysterical with worry. We calmed her and she held Matt tightly as I said my
goodbyes and left with Nick. Finally after driving for a while we found a
phone that worked and Nick called his mom who was a distance away and not
affected at all by this storm. He told her he was okay and after I
reassured her we took off to head back home. But first I called my captain
to see if I was needed. He told me I was but he understood I had to take
care of Nick and they would handle it with their manpower but to make sure
I was in, in the morning. That wouldn't be a problem but I sure needed to
rest. Now with the neighborhood in total disarray I didn't know how well I
would sleep but I'll find a way. I stopped back at Bonnie's house and I
asked her if she could watch over Nick tomorrow since I didn't want him to
be alone in the neighborhood until it was safer. She said yes without
hesitating.

"Okay Bonnie. Thanks. I have power by my place so if it doesn't come back
on soon and you need something don't hesitate to come over. Even if it's so
your food doesn't spoil in the freezer. Bring it by."

"Okay JR, thanks. If I have to I will."

"Okay and call no matter what time if you need me that is if the phones
work again soon."

"Sure thing. Thanks, you're such a dear."

I smiled at her and we took off for my house. I was so glad I bought that
generator but never thought it would be for a reason like this. The house
was the only one lite on the block now as it had grown dark and people were
still outside wondering what was going to happen next. The sky was clear
and the town was a disaster as I shut the door and tried to make a night
out of what was left of it. It was just before 9pm now and I was beat. All
that happened in just about 2 hours. What a shame so many had to die and
lose their homes. It finally hit me and I sat down on my couch and started
to cry. Nick came over and sat next to me and tried to comfort me some. I
just couldn't stop thinking about Mrs. Walker and how often we talked about
how it was such a nice neighborhood to live in. Nick swelled up and
together we sat there and got out our feelings over what we saw tonight, I
felt a little embarrassed over it but still with such a disaster how should
I feel? After a little bit I lay back and Nick laid his head on me and we
fell asleep there on the couch. I woke up about 2am and carried Nick up to
bed, set my alarm and checked the generator before trying to get a few more
hours sleep. I was sure I was keeping the whole neighborhood up with my
generator but then I realized that there wasn't a lot of it left and the
noise being made by the rescue workers and crew probably was louder then my
generator anyway. I finally dozed off around 2:30 and was awakened by my
alarm at 5am. I shut if off and put on a light. Nick was in the bed again
and deep asleep on the opposite side. I just let him rest there and went in
to get ready for work. Although I told him what I expected before we passed
out last night I left him a note anyway just to be sure. He knew he had to
go over to Bastions place when he got up so I was okay with letting him
sleep in. I turned off the generator and was out of the house by 5:30 and
heading to the firehouse as fast as I could. I knew those guys needed
relief and I wanted to give it ASAP! My replacement left and the other
fresh men filed in from their sleep or sleepless night and we assumed our
jobs for the day. We had a meeting over what happened and found out that
power should be back on today in our area and by the school too. All that
was left was clean up and we didn't have to be involved in that unless
there was a fire. The day was eerily quiet considering what we knew
happened last night. A lot of the guys were tired and up all night. I think
I was the only one that got sleep so I did a lot of the maintenance and
chores that had to be done, it was greatly appreciated since I couldn't
chip in and help last night at least I gave them the rest they needed
now. We only had two alarms all day and they were minor. Before I knew it
2pm arrived and we were dismissed for the day and I flew home to check out
the neighborhood in daylight. Nick was outside with Bastion and Tommy
playing away from the mess. I guess they just needed to be together. The
cell phone worked again but not my house phone. Power was still out. But we
were promised it would be on by dark. I talked to the boys to see if they
were interested in football practice and they told me it was better then
hanging around doing nothing. I called coach Fergus and ironically he was
about to call me for my opinion. We talked for a bit and decided it would
be best to practice all teams tonight just to get the kids together and
away from what happened. I called Matt and told him that and he was happy
and told me he would talk to his mom and come over about an hour before
practice and go in with Nick and I.

"Okay Matt but you better make it 3:30 I still have to get Nick new
equipment today so I am going in by 4:30."

"Oh, okay 3:30 is fine too. I am bored already with TV and stuff since mom
doesn't want me out of the house today with everything that happened last
night."

"Do you need me to pick you up then?"

"Yeah, that might be better. Mom won't let me walk to your neighborhood
with things the way they are."

"I'll be by in about an hour then Matt. See ya."

"K, bye."

We hung up and I walked back over to them and told them what was going
on. Fergus was going to call all the kids in our group and we were meeting
at the practice field for a regular practice. They were all happy about
that since it now gave them something to do tonight, as was I since the
other team we had to scrimmage on Wednesday wouldn't go lightly on us with
or without what had happened. I told Nick I was going home to change and he
could do what he wanted for the next hour.

"Just make sure your back by 3:30 we have to go and suit you up and I don't
want it cutting into practice time."

"No problem JR. I'll be home in a little bit. I am hungry."

I thought to myself, so what else is new!

"Then get your butt home now and I will feed you I don't want you eating
too late or close to practice."

"Okay 5 more minutes and I will be right there."

I nodded to him and headed back to my house. They had the heavy machinery
in and already were removing some of the wood and debris from one of the
houses across the street. They had money and I guess that got them started
on rebuilding right away. I had heard that as long as anyone remembers
nothing this serious weather related ever hit this area of the state so it
was a freak storm. I went into the back yard to fish some leaves and crap
out of the pool. There was a mess in it and I had a lot of work to get it
back up and running and clean again. Keeping his word Nick was home in
about 5 minutes. He really was a good boy. I worked a little longer and
then went inside to make him a bite to eat. I looked outside and saw him
doing what I was doing before, for me. He picked up the strainer and was
lifting stuff out of the pool. A few minutes later I had a sandwich ready
and went to the back with it and a glass of ice tea. Since he was helping I
brought the food to him as well as mine and we sat outside and ate. In
between bites I talked to him about last night just to make sure there
weren't any fears about what happened left in his mind.

"How's the grub?"

"Huh?"

"The sandwich?"

"Oh, good, thanks."

"Thanks for helping me with the pool some."

"Welcome. After all I use it too. Its only fair I do something for you
since your letting me live here and be happy."

"You are doing something for me. Every time I look at you. That cute mug of
yours makes me smile. Just knowing you're around and Matt is makes me very
happy."

I was done eating and it was time to go get Matt. I got up and took my
plate and gave him a pat on the head.

"Thanks for lunch JR."

"Anytime my friend, anytime. I am going to get Matt. You coming or want to
stay here?"

"No, he said with a mouth full. I want to come with you."

"Okay, finish eating it's still a little early so... I told him 3:30, its
3:15."

I went in and put the glass in the sink and grabbed my wallet and keys and
locked up the front door. The power came on just as I did that and
thankfully I got to shut off that noisy generator. Now I can filter the
pool clean. After I got everything set with the power back on I met Nick in
the kitchen and we left thru the garage door and took off to get Matt. The
ride was short but with Nick in the front seat I couldn't help but play
with him and bust his balls a little. I kept running my hand up his leg and
he would look at me and then push it away and giggle. I notice a little
bulge in his pants forming and I decided I better stop or risk Matt seeing
it and getting mad.

"Why did you stop? It was just getting interesting, see!"

"Yeah I saw it alright. Matt might too and we don't need that."

"Yeah, oh. That's true. But if was feeling good."

"Then why did you keep pushing my hand away?"

He looked at me.

"Because if I didn't at least fight back some you might think I am easy."

We were at a red light and his comment shocked me.

"Really? Now where did you get that thought from?"

"I dunno. Just felt that way."

"Well if you don't want me to play all you have to do is ask me to stop and
I will right away ya know."

"If I wanted you to stop, haha! Never. JR you make me feel great. Not just
when you do that. Always. You care about me more then my old man ever
did. You're always showing me attention and doing stuff. I love you."

"Thanks Nicky. I love you too pal. But let's keep that between us. Matt has
the same feelings and I don't ever want to hurt him."

"Right!"

All that talking brought us right to his front door and he flew out of the
empty house and to the truck.

"Aww, man! I wanted front seat."

Reluctantly but kindly Nick gave it up and moved into the rear without
saying much at all. What a good kid. Most would fight it. Matt smiled,
threw his gear in the rear of my truck, and got in.

"Thanks Nick. I owe ya one."

"I won't forget that Matt!"

"No problem. Hi JR. he focused his attention on me. How's the
neighborhood?"

"Getting better the power is back on and we are doing a little
better. You'll see in a bit I am going home first. Nick I want you to grab
a pair of sweats not just those shorts just in case okay?"

"Sure."

I reached over and gave Matt a kiss on the head. By now I didn't think Nick
would care especially after what the three of us went through last night. I
checked the mirror after I did that and Nick had a smile on his face. He
knew something was between us I think. Matt looked at me like I was crazy
and said nothing. Nick giggled and Matt turned around.

"What are you laughing at?"

"The look on your face when he did that."

"Why?"

"You looked shocked; he kissed your head Matt."

"Well?"

"Hey man don't give it a thought its kewl with me, even more after last
night I understand totally and don't have a problem with it man. Whatever
happens between us when we are together stays with us? Okay?"

"Sure. Thanks Nick."

I saw Nicky smile at him in the mirror and I was very happy with that. That
only means things might develop between all of us now.

"Matt you're staying by us tonight?"

"I think so."

"Did you bring a change of clothes?"

"No, I forgot to."

"Then we will go now and you can get them."

"Kewl, you're off tomorrow right?"

"Yes until after our scrimmage. I go back Thursday and then I work for 5
straight. So my next day off won't be until next week on Tuesday. Then I
get three days off in a row. Gotta love this job for free time! But that's
about it haha."

"Yeah, I bet."

"But your job is so important JR. You save lives, risk your own, fight
fires and take care of others when needed and you coach us and teach us how
to be football players in between all that. If it wasn't for you and coach
Fergus we wouldn't be learning what we are."

I thought about what Nick said and even though I knew all that I suddenly
realized how important it was. I guess Nick woke me up some after I had
gotten into a rut doing the same job day in and day out.

"Thanks Nicky those are kind words. Even if we weren't coaching you,
someone would do it but I understand what you mean."

I reached back to him as best I could while driving and grabbed his leg and
gave it a squeeze.

"You two are so special and very important to me. I suppose I have grown
attached to both of you now and don't know what I would do without
you. Last night was one of the scariest times in my life ever! But somehow
knowing I had you two there and I had to keep the both of you safe gave me
strength to get through it when I felt like losing it myself. I knew what
was happening and the only thing on my mind was keeping you and Matt safe
until the danger passed. Now you go and make me see how important my job is
after doing it for so long I almost forgot how important it is."

"Yeah well I didn't! That's twice in the past week you have saved my life
JR and no matter what happens I will never, ever forget it. I didn't
remember a lot about the fire and never got to talk to you about it until
now but I was told by my sister that I was not breathing and you brought me
back to life. I can't tell you what that means to me and how sorry I am for
not telling you this sooner. Thanks JR! Thanks for my life."

I was touched and very proud of his words. Again what I did was so second
natured that it didn't even penetrate until he said it. I fought back tears
as we pulled up in front of Matt's house. He got out to get a change of
clothes and I had time to face Nick now and really let him know my
feelings. I turned and faced him in the back seat.

"You know its not easy being a coach and on top of that trying to take care
of you guys and do what's right all the time. Look at me! I fucked things
up all the time. I am doing things with you at your age and that is wrong
and so on. But that isn't the point I am trying to make. What is important
to me is that even at your age you are showing me something I rarely get
which is support and thanks."

I put my hand on his face by his chin.

"You're such a special kid. I don't quite know what to say to you
anymore. Not many people say thanks to us as coaches but also you have said
it with meaning behind it. It's so sweet of you to do that and I thank
you. You really are a great kid and if I would have lost you the day of the
fire I would have lost not only someone special, I would have lost a piece
of my heart too."

It was getting way too sentimental in the truck and I was almost glad Matt
made his way back so quickly. I leaned over and gave him a peck on the

I couldn't say anymore Matt opened the truck door and got in. The mood in

I threw the truck into gear and took off with a refreshed and renewed

"Do we have to go to practice JR?"

"You really don't want me to answer that do you Matt?"

"No, I know what we have to do but now I am so interested in this and

of how well things just went in the truck I had to. I pulled him aside and

"Matt I don't know what his problem is but he does have the right to
undress without company so I hate to ask you to wait outside but would you

"Hey. I'm sorry it was his choice not mine. We won't be long."

Animated and mad Matt looked at Nick and headed outside.

"Why did you do that? First off your both boys and second the way we talked
in the truck on the way over lead me to think you didn't care if he saw you

"But why did you make me chase him outside?"

and not in some cold cement floor building and the second is because I want

hurt to look into either. I went back to Nick and he was just about suited
up.

"Don't wear the pads yet just try them on. We are going to probably loosen
up without them and then put them on later. That's up to coach Fergus."

"Okay JR. then I am done. Let's get out of here it's hot."

"I know I opened the front door but I think we heated this place up by
ourselves before."

He looked at me and smiled and grabbed his helmet and shoulder pads and
jogged outside. I followed and went over into the shade to get out of the
hot sun until practice was going to begin. I wanted to kick a few but it
was too warm and I didn't want to get soaked so I passed today on that
idea. Kids were showing up anyway now and as they did the questions started
to fly about the tornado and other things. So I just talked to all of them
and answered what I could. Bastion showed up and looked okay but I wanted

"How are you doing today? Any problems last night?"

"No JR thanks for asking though. I am doing pretty well but I still miss
Mrs. Walker."

"I understand that Sebastian but in time you will heal as will our
neighborhood. The sooner they rebuild it the better we all will be."

I had some small talk with a few of the kids as time passed and more and
more kids showed up. We learned that two of the younger kids were hurt in
the storm but should be okay soon. Fergus showed up and we talked about
things and started practice.

"Okay guy's helmets on and let's take a lap and loosen up the legs." Fergus
yelled.

And off they went. While they were running we discussed what we wanted to
get done tonight since we only have today and tomorrow before we have to
scrimmage Hillsdale and they always play tough and seem to find a way to
kick our ass every year. Not this year thought, I hope. We have a strong,
amazing team and I think we could beat anyone. The guys were back and now
doing their exercises. I needed to loosen up a little bit so I decided to
kick the ball while they loosened up themselves. I got off a few nice punts
too. One sailed about 55 yards and I walked down to get it and kicked it
back with a nice spiral but only about 40 yards this time. Can't have
everything! Exercise was over so we sent them on another lap and then for a
5-minute water break. Bill and I talked and we decided to work on defense
today and offense tomorrow and special teams towards the end of both
practices. Break was over and we set up our best "D" and went to work. We
were running a 5-3 stack and a 6-2 occasionally. We ran plays off a make
shift offense and covered as many angles as we could with what we knew
about Hillsdale. I put in a goal line play just incase it was needed but it
needed work and won't be ready before the season begins in two weeks. After
about 90 minutes of this and a few breaks we switched off and went to
special teams. I had Mike snap a few for punting practice Matt was my
punter and for kicking I decided on Eric. He seemed to be booting the ball
almost as far as me at times just had a problem with height. Eric almost
got the punting spot from Matt, but Matt got a lot more height on his punts
so Eric is his backup for that and Kyle is Eric's backup, one of those
twins I mentioned. We ran several punt plays and a few kickoffs although we
won't be doing that in the scrimmage, just punting when forced to. We
finished up the night with some good wind sprints, which the kids hate and
then headed out as dark was starting to fall. Bill talked to the kids
before we broke about making sure everyone was there tomorrow for offensive
practice and he told us that the rest of the groups would return tomorrow
too so we would have to go back to sharing the field. It was great today
since we had the whole thing to ourselves for almost 3 hours. As always I
had a group waiting at my truck for a ride home. Usually took me an extra
20 minutes to drop off all of them but since Nick and Matt were coming home
with me as well as Bastion that just left me to drop off Tommy, Eric and
the twins, Kyle and Josh. I talked to Bill for a bit and then we all hung
out in the parking lot for a few more just bullshitting and bonding with
each other before finally calling it a night about 8:30. I dropped off the
twins and then Eric and finally Tommy before heading home. Tommy and I
didn't get to talk tonight but I did get a big smile from him on a water
break and before he got in the truck. Maybe tomorrow he'll stop over with a
few others to use the pool. They know I am off the next two days so someone
is probably going to come over. Never know! I have to finish cleaning the
pool tomorrow morning anyway. I shocked it tonight to make sure it was pure
for tomorrow. I hear it's going to be another hot one and then cool off
Wednesday, which is great, so we don't lose anyone to heat that
night. Hillsdale has lights so we probably will have a late night
Wednesday. I think the junior team is going too. I stopped and picked up a
cup of coffee and a few lottery tickets before going home. Maybe I can win
so we can get our own lights. A few minutes later we were pulling into my
driveway and out of the truck.

"G'night Bastion."

"Nite, thanks for the ride."

"Anytime pal. See you tomorrow for a swim?"

"Yeah sound good what time?"

"Anytime after 12:00 is fine."

"Okay thanks again. Night."

He took off for home and I headed into the house with two smelly football

"Okay who's hitting the shower first? You both need one."

They looked at each other and then at me.

"What? I have to decide this?"

"Well actually JR we were talking earlier and hoping maybe the three of us
could shower together or something."

"Wow! Where did that come from? Are you two ready for that? Nick? Matt? Are
you sure?"

"I think I am. Said Matt."

"Yeah, me too."

"That is going to be one awfully crowded shower ya know. It's not that
big. Maybe I will watch and let you two enjoy this time."

"But we wanted you there for our first time. I have never seen Nick and he
