From the previous chapter:

I wrapped my arms around him holding him tight. "Oh Teddy, I hope you are
happy here, because I already love you. I want to adopt you to make you
Teddy Anderson if you want me too."

When I felt his tears of joy and him nod his head I held him tighter
saying, "Welcome home Teddy, I promise no one will ever hurt you again. I
love you."

Chapter 2:

Teddy's New Beginning and A Double Surprise

Teddy and I sat there snuggling with each other for about forty-five
minutes, when Teddy began to yawn. I stood up with Teddy in my arms and
carried him upstairs so he could choose a bedroom.

Naturally he chose the bedroom across from mine. I sat him down on the
bed and I asked him if he needed a pain pill and when he shook his head
no I left him to get ready for bed.

I gave him about ten minutes then I went back into his room to tuck him
into bed. I bent down kissed him on his cheek, pulled the covers up to
his chin, and I told him I loved him and if he needed me I was just right
across the hall.

As I was cutting his light off I heard him softly sobbing. I walked back
over to his bed, sat down beside him and I held him tight as he cried.
When the tears and sobs lessoned I softly asked, "What's wrong little
buddy? Are you hurting?"

He shook his head no and then he began to say through his tears, "I'm
scared Daddy, my real dad hurt me all the time and I feel safe here. I
want to stay here with you forever, I love you." he held onto me so tight
I thought he was going to break my neck.

I asked him if he wanted to sleep with me tonight and when he quickly
knotted his head, I stood up with my angel in my arms and walked into my
room.

I gently laid him down on my bed, kissed him on his cheek and told him
that I loved him very much. I wrapped my arms around him reassuring him
he was safe now. I told him to get some sleep and I would see him in the
morning.

I laid there for a long while just holding Teddy, before snuggling up
with him and falling fast to sleep. Then my internal clock went off at
its usual time letting me know there were lots of things to do today.

I gently got out of bed without waking Teddy, went into my bathroom
taking care of my morning duties. Once shaved, showered and teeth brushed
I went back into the bedroom and began to wake up Teddy.

"Good morning Sunshine." I called with a cheerful voice, as I gently
shook his shoulder. "Come on sleepy head, time to get up." I persisted.
He just grunted, rolled over, and pulled the covers over his head. Ok you
asked for it then I jerked the covers down and began to tickle him to he
began to begged for mercy.

I sent him running to the bathroom with instructions to get a shower,
brush his teeth with a new tooth brush from under the sink, get dressed
and to meet me downstairs for breakfast because we had allot to do today.

I got out the fixins for my world famous strawberry waffles, "Only famous
in my own head that is..." and started preparing a breakfast of
strawberry waffles, bacon, and sausage links. Milk and OJ for Teddy to
drink and coffee and OJ for myself.

Teddy showed up in the kitchen about fifteen minutes later with his
growling stomach leading the way. I asked him to set the table because
the food was almost ready to serve. He quickly got our plates, silver
wear and glasses set at our places. Then we sat down and pigged out on
probably the best breakfast Teddy has had in a long time.

As we were finishing up our breakfast, there came a knock at the kitchen
door and I hollered "Come on in Hank, the door is open."

When Hank came through the door Teddy's eyes grew as big as saucers when
he saw how big he was. and He turn toward me with fear in his eyes and I
had to reassure him that Hank was just a big old teddy bear and he
wouldn't hurt no one.

Teddy's reaction to seeing Hank for the first time was normal because he
is a large man. He is 6 foot 8 inches tall and weighs in at 325 pounds of
solid muscle. He is shaped like a walking mountain but is the biggest
softy when it comes to horses and kids you've ever seen. Most of all,
Hank is the best ranch foreman any ranch could ever have.

Hank came through the door, spotted Teddy and said with a chuckle in his
voice, "Good morning boss, I see you brought us home another ranch hand
last night. I think I'll try him out by sending him after those cows we
have lost in the sticker bushes." He said while giving me a wink over
Teddy's head so he couldn't see him do it.

Teddy's face dropped and he said with a quiver in his voice, "Mr. Hank,
ah, I can't ride horses." "I want to learn though." He quickly added
excitedly.

"Can't ride horses! I don't believe it. What can you ride then? Goats,
cows, camels?" Hank asked with mock surprise in his voice.

At this I totally lost it and I began to laugh so hard my sides were
hurting. When I began to laugh Teddy realized that Hank was just giving
him a hard time and began to laugh with me.

When I could breathe again I introduced Hank to Teddy and told him he
would be around the ranch for a long time. I told him I would appreciate
if he would help show him how things are done around the ranch and help
keep an eye on Teddy when he could.

"No problem boss, we will have this little buckaroo riding goats and
cleaning out horse stalls with a tooth brush before next weekend." He
said with a hardy chuckle. Then he looked at Teddy, stuck out his hand
and said, "Little buddy if you ever need anything around here you just
give me a holler and I'll come a running."

I sent Teddy to get ready to go to town, while Hank and I talked about
ranch business for a few minutes. When Teddy was leaving the room he
looked at Hank and with a smile on his face said, "I really want to learn
to ride horses but if you can't handle riding the goats I'll ride them
for you." He ran out of the room chuckling at getting the big man that
was picking on him.

I filled Hank in on Teddy's story and told him if his dad got out on bail
there might be trouble so have all the ranch hands be on guard.

Hank assured me if he came around the ranch at all he would take care of
the problem him self, because he said anyone that would beat a child
deserves a good ass whipping and he would personally enjoy giving him
one. Then he left to get started on the daily chores you have on a horse
ranch.

I rounded Teddy up and told him we needed to go into the city because we
had a lot to get done today. The first stop was the mall out by the
airport because I knew we could get most of our shopping done there.

In the five different clothing stores we went into I outfitted him from
head to foot with everything from a charcoal gray Stetson cowboy hat down
to a really nice pair of shiny black cowboy boots he picked out. I got
him clothes to work in, play in and dress clothes. I also got him shoes
for all occasions. After buying all the clothes in his size he would ever
need, we were off to see what else we could find.

The next store we went into was the huge outdoor store. I think this one
and the western store are my two favorite stores in the entire mall.

This store carries everything for camping, fishing, boating, hunting and
hiking that anyone could ever imagine. I made sure we left that store
with our share of it in our bags.

I helped Teddy pick out some really cool hiking boots he liked, fishing
poles, tackle and a tackle box. Then we picked out some camping gear for
him and whoever he wants to go with him. Then we picked him out the best
BB gun and leaver action 22 rifle, they had because I enjoy shooting and
wanted to teach Teddy.

After leaving the outdoors store we headed straight for the biggest
electronics store in Dallas, where I got Teddy the top of the line desk
top computer and laptop so when we travel. I also got him a computer
desk, TV, a video game system and several games to go into his room. I
also got him a cell phone so he could get in touch with me anytime he
needed to or wanted to.

I made arrangements for all the stuff we bought today to be delivered to
the ranch at 4:00 PM and we left to finish up everything else I needed to
get done. While we were walking out to the truck I saw my real estate
agent Joe Mills hurrying toward us with a big smile on his face.

When he was close enough to be heard he began to speak, "Oh man Jeff, I'm
glad I found you. We need to talk."

I got him to follow us over to the steak house where we talked over
lunch. He told me my neighbors that has the ranch that borders mine
wanted to sell and he thought I could get it for a great deal.

This was a great opportunity to do more than my original plans and I was
going to take this opportunity while I had the chance to make a bigger
difference for kids like Teddy.

I told Joe to call and see if we could come on out now and talk over
buying the ranch. When we were told to come on out I knew right then that
this Property would be mine.

I filled Teddy in on the way out to the other ranch and he was just as
excited as I am about my idea and just as eager to get started with it.
Once all the small talk was over and we began to talk business I thought
their asking price of 1.6 million dollars for 2,300 acres, house and
stock was very reasonable and I told Mr. Richardson I wanted the place.
We shook hands and Teddy and I left for home.

Teddy and I arrived at the same time the truck got there to deliver all
his stuff we got at the mall. Once everything was unloaded and accounted
for on the list, I signed the paperwork and gave the delivery guys a tip
and they left.

Teddy and I spent the next 45 minutes hanging up clothes, hanging up his
gun rack for his bb gun and 22 rifle and putting together his computer
and computer desk. When we were finish putting together and hooking up
everything Teddy had a room any boy would be proud to have for his own.

Teddy asked if Hank could come see his room and I told him to call him on
his new phone. I had already programmed all the numbers into it he would
need for now until he got some friends to put into it him self.

Teddy punched the number to speed dial Hank and when his booming voice
said hello Teddy panicked and tried to hand me his phone. I just shook my
head no and told him to talk.

"Ahh Hank, this is Teddy." He timidly said. "Will you come up to the
house I have something I want to show you." He asked with a rush.

I sent Teddy downstairs to let Hank in when he knocked and I went into my
room to change clothes. While Teddy showed Hank his room, I chuckled at
the excitement in his voice as he showed him everything he got today.

When Teddy showed him his fishing stuff he got today, Hank began to tell
him all about the big lake we had on our property and about the great
fish in it. He also told him he would help teach him how to shoot and
anything else he needed help with. In the short time Hank was there the
two had became big buddies.

I came out of my bedroom and told Hank to call Martha his wife to see if
they could join me for supper because there was something very important
I wanted to talk over with both of them. He called Martha and told her
what I said and that he was on his way home. He arranged to meet us in
about 45 minutes at the restaurant

Teddy and I arrived at the restaurant about five minutes before our
guests so we went on in and got our table. When Hank and Martha arrived I
waved them over to our table and when the waiter came by we all placed
our drink orders.

Once we all had our food and began to eat, I laid out my plans and what I
wanted to do with the ranch. I told them how I wanted to take abused and
homeless kids and give them a new purpose, a new hope in life and I
wanted them to help me make a difference for these kids.

I told Hank about the house on the other property that I wanted him and
Martha to move into. I told Hank that he and Martha deserved it because
he was such a loyal employee, a great friend and like family. Besides
Teddy needs his God Parents close by so he can see them allot.

I let that last statement sink in a minute before continuing by telling
Martha about the school I wanted her to help me start for the kids. I
told her I wanted the kids to have a good education that they might not
have on the streets or in an abusive home. I told them I needed their
help to help make a difference for these kids.

Once my last statement totally sunk in, Martha began to cry and she got
up and gave Teddy and me big hugs. Hank grabbed me and almost crushed my
ribs with a bear hug and then he turned, picked up Teddy and gave him a
gentle hug then told us it would be an honor to be Teddy's God Parents.

Our waiter brought us the check. I paid it and left him a 20 dollar tip
on the table. Once home I sent Teddy up to get ready for bed while I
locked up the house. When I walked into his room I saw him sitting on his
bed crying. I walked over to him, sat down beside him, put my arms around
him and asked, "What's wrong Teddy? Are you ok?"

"Oh Daddy, I'm so happy. I love you so much, and I want to stay here
forever." He said with a rush. "I'm scared my real daddy will come and
get me or hurt you." He said between sobs.

I held him and reassured him until he fell fast asleep. I pulled his
covers up, kissed him on his cheek and I turned out his light as I left
his room.

I laid in bed for a while just thanking God for Teddy and the opportunity
to help kids like him. I fell asleep and the next thing I remember was
Teddy climbing into bed with me to snuggle with me for a little while. I
wrapped my arms around him and just enjoyed holding my little boy for the
next 45 minutes, before finally getting up.

Teddy and I were sitting there enjoying our breakfast when Hank knocked
on the kitchen door and Teddy got up and let him in. Teddy gave Hank a
big hug before sitting down and finishing his breakfast.

Hank fixed himself a cup of coffee, sat down at the table then asked with
a big smile on his face, "Ah boss, can I take my new God Son fishing?"
When Teddy heard this, his eyes got as big as saucers, and he broke out
into a mile wide grin.

I smiled at them both and told Teddy if he was going fishing he better
hurry up and get his fishing stuff ready to go. Teddy jumped up and was
off in a flash, but he was back in a minute giving me a big hug before
running off to get his fishing stuff. They were gone in less than ten
minutes later with smiles on both of their faces.

I took advantage of my free time and decided to make some phone calls.
Although it was a Sunday I wanted to get things started. I called my
attorney Buck Stevenson and got him started on Teddy's adoption, changing
the name of my ranch to New Hope Ranch and told him if he knew of any
more paperwork we would need for the ranch or for the school to please
take care of them for me.

My next call was to some good friends of mine Daniel and Laurie Greenwood
the owners of Greenwood Construction and Design. I spoke to Daniel and
explained to him what I wanted and asked him if he and Laurie could meet
with me later here on the ranch. He said they could meet me here about
4:00 PM this afternoon. He said he would fill Laurie in so she could draw
up some temporary blueprints and bring them with her.

My next phone calls were to Sheriff Cox, Police Chief Simmons, and CPS
Director Rhonda Watson where I quickly filled them in on what was going
on and told them what I was looking for in boys for the ranch. I told
them they needed to have an interest in horses and a desire to better
their selves.

Once my phone calls were made, I took my coffee and went out to relax on
my porch. Teddy and Hank returned from fishing a few minutes later and I
could clearly tell he had fun by the smile on his face and the excitement
in his voice as he told me about every fish, what he caught it with and
how hard it fought when he hooked it.

I told Teddy to thank Hank for taking him fishing and to go put his
fishing stuff up in his room. He ran over to Hank, gave him a big hug,
and thanked him for the awesome time they had fishing. Then he went in to
put his stuff in his room and to get cleaned up because he smelled like
wet fish.

When Teddy was in the house Hank told me how excited he got every time he
hooked a fish and that he never stopped smiling the entire time. Then
Hank got real serious and said, "Jeff, that boy loves you so much. He
told me all about you saving him from his daddy. He called you his
Guardian Angel and I agree with him. If you or Teddy ever need anything
just let me or Martha know because we are here for you both."

Just then Hank's cell phone rang and he and Martha talked for a minute or
two and he told her about all the fish they caught and then he handed me
the cell phone telling me she wanted to ask me something.

"Hello?" I said into the phone. "Jeff, fish and hush-puppies are my
specialty. If you'll allow me to borrow your kitchen I'll cook us up a
great mess of fish, hush-puppies, and cole slaw. You haven't had my
cooking in a long time and my God son needs to know he won't starve when
he comes for visits." She said with a chuckle.

I chuckled and quickly agreed that fish and hush-puppies sounded really
good for dinner and it had been way to long since I have had her cooking.
She told me to tell Hank to have the fish all cleaned and ready when she
gets here she was on her way. I hung up his phone and handed it back to
him telling him what she said.

Hank took the fish and headed to the back of the house to clean them, and
once all of the fish were clean, he went down to the main barn where his
office is and changed clothes. A few minutes later Martha arrived and
began preparing the fish, hush-puppies and cole slaw.

Right at 4:00 PM Daniel and Laurie Greenwood showed up and we all sat
down and hammered out the details about the ranch and the changes I
wanted to do. Martha was a big help on designing the small private school
I wanted for the kids so they could get the best education possible. Hank
helped me with planning the barns I'll need for the new horses. Then
Teddy and I worked out how we wanted the dorms for the kids.

Daniel and Laurie left a few minutes later saying they would bring over
the Preliminary sketches in about a week to ten days.

Martha totally out did herself with her fish, hush-puppies, and cole slaw
because everything was fabulous. While we sat there enjoying our food
Teddy told Martha all about catching each fish, how much they fought, and
how much fun he had fishing with Hank today.

After everyone had finished eating I asked them all if they would like to
take a horse-back-ride and see where I want to put everything. Everyone
wanted to go for a ride so we headed down to the barn. Hank and I picked
two out for Martha and Teddy and then we saddled up all four horses and
headed out on our ride.

Teddy was nervous to begin with but quickly relaxed and enjoyed the ride.
I pointed out each place where I wanted the school, dorms, and new barns
and over all we had a very nice ride.

We returned to the barn, unsaddled the horses and Hank and Martha left
for home, while Teddy and I went into the house to relax.

Teddy and I were watching some action movie when the phone rang. Teddy
jumped up and answered the phone saying, "Hello?" Then I heard him say,
"Just a minute please." Then he brought me the phone telling me it was
for me.

"Hello?" I said into the phone. Then I realized it was a good friend of
mine named Matt from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. "Oh Matt how are you?" I
asked. Then he asked me if he and his boys could come out for a few days
before the kids started back to school. I told him he was always welcome
in my home and we arranged their visit.

I told Teddy all about my friend Matt after we hung up, and that he and
his boys were coming for a visit. We finished watching the movie and
headed off to bed.

I tucked Teddy into bed, kissed him on his cheek and told him I loved him
very much as I walked out of his room and turned off his lights. I
decided to go to bed also because I had to work a half day at the free
clinic tomorrow and I was already tired.

I woke to the sound of the persistent buzzing of my alarm clock and I
reached out and silenced it with a hard smack. I got up, took a quick
shower then went to start breakfast for Teddy. When I got breakfast
started I went and got Teddy up telling him that Hank would be here
shortly to show him some things around the ranch until I got home.

Once Hank arrived I gave Teddy a big hug bye and left for the clinic,
arriving about 35 minutes before anyone else. I parked my truck in the
parking lot at the rear of the clinic and headed to unlock the back door.

When I walked up to the back door I saw two small bodies laying there
with badly tattered clothes and they looked like they have been beaten. I
check for a pulse while calling 911 and Police Chief Tom Simmons on my
cell phone, then I called Tim a friend of mine and asked him if he could
fill in for me at the clinic because of the emergency that just came up.

He said he could and he was on his way. Just about then Simmons and the
paramedics pulled up. They ran over to us and began to check the boys
over and that is when they found all the blood on the back of their
pants.

Some of the other clinic staff arrived and I quickly filled them in on
what was going on. I told them that I had arranged for another doctor to
be there and then I got into the back of the ambulance with the boys. I
told the paramedics to head to the children's hospital code 3 and to
inform the hospital that both patients have lost allot of blood.

When we arrived at the hospital I performed a more thorough examination
on the boys and I found several things out at once. I found out the boys
were identical twins, they both were severely beaten and both had been
raped multiple times.

I ordered complete head to toe x-rays and I told the charge nurse to type
and cross match their blood and to order blood to be brought up to the
next available O-R. I needed to get in there to repair the damage to the
boy's anuses cause by the brutal rapes. It wasn't long before an O.R. was
available and I went to scrub up after asking a friend of mine to assist
me in the O-R.

The longer I operated on one of the twins the angrier I got. How could
anyone hurt a child! As I finished up on the boy I was working on I
silently made him a promise that who ever was responsible for hurting him
and his brother would pay and pay dearly.

I left the O-R telling the nurse to come get me when the boys regain
consciousness. I told her I would be out in the waiting room informing
Police Chief Tom Simmons on the condition of the twins. I had been
talking to Tom for about twenty minutes when Nurse Brown came out and
informed us the boys were awake.

Tom and I followed Nurse Brown to the recovery room and when we walked in
we had two pair of beautiful emerald green eyes staring at us. I quickly
checked the boys and told them they were in the hospital.

Tom introduced him self to them, smiled at them both and asked, "Boys can
you tell me your names?" Can you tell me who did this to you?" He asked
trying to hide the anger in his voice.

The boys began to cry as they told us that the monsters that done this
horrible thing to them was their father and his friends. They told us how
their father woke them up at midnight and told them it was time they
became real men. They told us that him and his friends began to rape them
until all of them past out sometime this morning and they were able to
run away to the clinic. Then they told us their names were Jerry and
Perry Scoggins and today was their thirteenth birthday.

Tom and I assured them both that no one would hurt them anymore, and then
I gave the boys something to help with the pain and help them sleep. When
the boys nodded off to sleep Tom and I left the recovery room to let the
boys rest.

Tom made a few phone calls to get the warrants he needed and left to
arrest the scum bags that did that to those two boys. When Tom left I
called Hank and asked him if Martha could run him over to the clinic to
get my truck and bring it to me here at the hospital.

He told me it would be no problem and about forty five minutes later I
was paged to the emergency room nurse's station, where I was met by Hank,
Martha, and a smiling Teddy. Teddy ran over to me and gave me a big hug
and Hank walked over and handed me my keys.

I told Hank, Martha and Teddy I would be right back and I went back
upstairs to tell the nurses to call me immediately on my cell phone if
there was any change in Perry's or Jerry's condition. I told them I would
be back later to check on them, and then I left inviting my little family
out for lunch.

While we sat there eating I filled Hank and Martha in on the emergency we
had with Perry and Jerry and all of a sudden Teddy's face went white and
he broke out in tears. I held my arms out for Teddy as he ran over to me
and he fell into my arms sobbing. When I got him calmed down enough to
tell me what was wrong we found out he knew Perry and Jerry. He told us
that their dad and his dad were friends.

I assured him that Perry and Jerry were going to be okay now, that
Officer Simmons and I wouldn't let anything else happen to them. Then he
begged me to let him go back to the hospital with me to see the twins
when I went to check on them.

I agreed he could go with me when I went back to the hospital and we all
finished up our lunch and left the restaurant. I went by Rhonda Watson's
office to tell her about Perry and Jerry and to tell her when the boys
were able to leave the hospital I wanted them to come home with us.

She almost broke out in tears when I told her what had happened to Jerry
and Perry. She fixed up all the paperwork that was needed and I became
their legal guardian.

Police Chief Simmons and five car loads of officers gathered three blocks
down from Perry and Jerry's house. They were ready to serve the warrants
on the assholes that hurt Perry and Jerry. Once Tom Simmons had officers
at the front and back doors he gave the signal to take the house, and as
one they kicked in both doors and arrested everyone in the house.

When they searched the house they recovered pictures and videos of
everything they did to the twins. There was enough evidence found to
convict each and every one of them for a very long time.

When we arrived back at the hospital Teddy and I went by the gift shop
and got helium balloons and a stuffed animal for each boy before heading
up to see them. Teddy picked out a stuffed teddy bear that was dressed in
a doctor's lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck for Perry and a
stuffed monkey that was dressed in scrubs and wearing a surgeon's mask
holding a hand saw for Jerry.

Teddy and I entered the Pediatrics ICU and quickly found Perry and
Jerry's beds. They were asleep when we entered so we just quietly put
there stuffed animal and balloons on their bedside table and I began to
examine the boys.

The twins woke up while I was examining them, spotted Teddy and they
grinned from ear to ear. Teddy showed them their balloons and stuffed
animals we had brought for them. Then he explained why he was there and
that I was his new dad.

I told the boys that their daddy would never bother them again that he
and everyone that hurt them should be in jail by now. Then I told them
that when they were ready to go home that they would be coming to the
ranch to live with Teddy and me.

The boys were so excited about the idea of coming to live with Teddy and
I, they began to cry tears of joy. I took a Kleenex and dried their eyes
as Teddy began to tell them all about the horses, the lake and Hank.

The twins needed their rest so Teddy and I got ready to leave telling
Jerry and Perry we would be back tomorrow. I gave each boy a gentle hug
and a kiss on their forehead and Teddy gave each one a gentle hug and we
left for home.

That night as Teddy and I snuggled with each other on the sofa, I felt
Teddy began to cry. When I asked him what was wrong he just kept
repeating it was his fault over and over. He finally told me that it was
Perry that his dad caught him with the day he beat him.
