CHAPTER 10

(Revisiting Chapter 9)

Tommy had learned that morning that he had a "bedroom of record" or
"official bedroom" that was his to do as he pleased. The youth's mentor
left no doubt, however, as to where he hoped he slept! When it was time
for bed this second night, for instance, Eli simply lifted the boy onto his
shoulders and carried him upstairs in a fireman's carry. The unique
youngster never slept anywhere else - even though he and his hero did not
make love for two more months.

(Continuing Our Story - Bareback!)

Within two days, Dr. Reynolds had absolutely HAD IT with the workmen who
were making alterations that would support the new gymnasium. The constant
pounding was getting to his stomach; the men were but one step up from the
worst kind of field animals, and he couldn't concentrate on his work no
matter what he tried to do. In some despair he turned to Tommy, noted that
he had some horses stabled on a farm out in the country, and asked him if
he knew how to ride. The boy controlled his loud guffaw reasonably well,
pointing out that in his family the word was that he learned to ride some
time before he learned to walk! Before lunchtime arrived, the two intrepid
adventurers were in the doctor's classic little sports car and headed into
the outback.

As seemed to be his habit, the boy's head was on a swivel. According to
him, the country was not only beautiful, but it was quite fascinating. In
the distance, they could see hills and plateaus, but the country through
which they were driving (on little more than a roughly maintained "track")
was a rather level coastal plain. Here and there one found small farms,
usually where natural springs provided water needed to bring the rich earth
to life. Generally, however, the land was barren and scrubby. Pumping oil
wells of the "nodding donkey" or "horsehead" type were seen in every
direction. Even the occasional wild horse or the even wilder camel seemed
to echo the desolation. No surprise, Tommy thought, that the Sheikhdom had
turned to the sea - to fishing, to piracy, and later to commerce - for its
survival. The wealth and power of the today's Sheikhdom, of course, rested
on oil.

Eventually, Eli turned onto another, smaller "road" that led to a
collection of buildings. There were also numerous fields (and slaves),
which led Tommy to think that there must be more than one spring in the
area. Stopping at the manor house, they were shown into the library by a
household slave. The master hurried in minutes later, greeting Reynolds
affably and calling for coffee and cakes. "Nice to see you, Doctor," he
rumbled. "I still remember the night that you saved Mary after the bite of
that pit viper." "We were lucky, John," Reynolds replied. "I had
everything needed right at the hospital - and you're not that far out of
town. Had we been out in the fields, the results might have been
different. If only people would wear shoes, especially at night." "Yep,"
the gentleman farmer retorted, "I lose four or five slaves each year that
way, but you can't shoe them all and make any profit!" Redirecting his
attention, he glanced at the boy, smiled at Reynolds, and said, "Speaking
of slaves, that's an impressive young'un. Bet he'll throw some nice pups!
If ever you're interested, I'd sure like him to cover a few of my young
bitches. May I take a look?" The doctor gestured for Tommy to go over to
the farmer who examined his teeth, legs, and feet with approving grunts and
smiles." Finally, after affectionately rubbing his golden locks and
patting him on the rump, he cupped the lad's balls, bouncing the heavy orbs
in the palm of his hand and letting out a loud whistle. "Whoo-ee, Doc,
he's loaded! Don't forget, please." "Thanks, John. Now, if we're going
to do any riding, I think we'd better get over to the barn. See you at the
banquet in town next month?"

Following friendly parting words and while walking over towards the barn,
Reynolds leaned down towards Tommy and spoke softly. "Sorry about that
barnyard scene in there, son, but there are some illusions that we need to
maintain, at least for the time being." "No matter, Master," the boy
responded. "I understand." Looking up at Eli with a worried frown, he
added, "I'm not going to have to 'cover any bitches,' am I?" "Woof!"
replied the good doctor with an evil leer.

"We're going to meet Zeb. Although Zeb's been a slave all his life, he's
very important on this farm. For instance, he's responsible for all of the
stock and even supervises those slaves who are involved in the water
pumping operation. In fact, he's so well regarded that John has always
allowed him to keep a woman in his shack....the same woman for many years,
and that's rare in the slave business." "Who's the kid over there...the
one working with the dogs?" Tommy asked. "Oh, that's Ken," Reynolds said.
"He's about fourteen...one of Zeb's brood." Laughing, he added, "Zeb's
mate named him after a doll that John gave his daughter!" Seeing Zeb
coming out of the barn to meet them, the doctor raised his arm in greeting.
Zeb dropped into a somewhat arthritic prostration, but Reynolds quickly got
him to his feet. "How are you, you old reprobate?" he asked. "Where's
Jack, by the way?" The old man shook his head and whispered, "Let your
slave go over and talk with Ken, sir, and we can talk for a minute while
one of the lads gets your horses." (Given a nod of the head, Tommy was
off.) "I lost my Jack last fall, the finest son that a man ever had," Zeb
continued. "Though he broke the critter's leg, the big cat got him. He
was my favorite and Abby's. Just about killed her..." "I'm so very sorry,
Zeb," Reynolds consoled the old man. "I know he was liked. The girls
rather lined up when he was around, didn't they?" "They sure did," Zeb
answered with pride. "And he could more than hold his own around the home
brew keg." "How about Ken? I haven't seen him since he was a little guy,
but it looks as if he growing up to be as every bit as sturdy as Jack.
All's well there?" "No," Zeb answered sadly. "He's a completely different
boy. Wants to read and do other weird things... That's bad news for a
slave! My brother got to him a couple of years ago, and I think he spoiled
him!" "Spoiled him?" Eli repeated in some confusion. "Yep, I asked my
brother to teach the boy how to hunt. They didn't come home for three
days, and the boy hasn't been the same since. Then my bastard brother
tried to run off and got himself killed." Shaking his head in disgust, Zeb
added, "Maybe you would take a doctor's look at the boy? Ah, here are your
horses with Lenny." "Great, Zeb. I'll check out Ken during the week," he
said as he took the reins from the sturdy little nine-year- old.

Tommy and Ken roared up in a cloud of dust, Ken immediately falling to his
knees and burying his forehead in the dust of the courtyard. "This is
Kenny, Master," Tommy puffed. Reynolds observed that the dark-haired
fourteen-year-old was quite a physical specimen, and good-looking to boot.
When he stood up, the doctor was also a bit surprised to notice the strong
blaze of intelligence in his eyes. Obviously sorry that Tommy was leaving,
he bashfully greeted Dr. Reynolds before retiring on a look from his
father.

Tommy spent the next few minutes checking out his mount's backbone.
(Evidently, the spine of some horses makes riding them bareback akin to
riding the edge of a heavy knife!) Everything evidently to his
satisfaction, he jumped on the horse and jogged around the courtyard as if
he and the horse were one. Obviously impressed, Zeb looked on smiling,
while Dr. Reynolds mounted his beautiful (saddled!) Arabian.

To get out to the open country, the two riders needed first to move through
the farm or, perhaps more accurately, the series of cultivated areas, each
with its own overseer. Not many minutes had passed before Tommy drew
alongside the doctor. "Sire," he called out in a lowered voice. "If I
hadn't been in that slave center, I'd never have believed the pain and
misery that I've just seen. All of them! The old, the young, men, women,
infants...so many of them sick...many of them showing backs raw with welts
from the overseer's whip! How do they dare?" His voice dropping to a
bitter growl, the doctor snarled, "After all, how many can you shoe and
still make any profit! Just remember that your host is one of the more
lenient masters! Without doubt, slavery is an illness that should be high
on the eradication list!" Inasmuch as they were about to enter the main
area where the slaves were housed, the conversation ceased. They rode
slowly through the "streets," looking at human beings dying as they sat on
the ground next to open doors. Tommy did get a laugh when they came across
a few adolescents hiding and having a smoke. Evidently, the teens got a
real charge out of seeing a fellow slave, and a teenager at that, riding a
horse and had a terrible time restraining their cheers and applause.
Seeing no one in the vicinity and realizing that the jumbled shacks made it
difficult to see for more than a few feet, Tommy helped one of the smallest
to climb on behind him and gave him a short ride.

As they rode out of the village, Tommy sighed and asked the doctor if he
had seen how thin and filthy the teens were. Reynolds roughly wiped his
eyes and kept riding. With that, Tommy took off, lying down on the horse
at one point as it raced at full tilt across the plain. Later on, he lay
forward on the horse, hugging its neck as it galloped. It was as if he
were trying to "ride" the horrible images out of his mind. The doctor let
him ride. His stomach felt no less queasy. At one point, having ridden
ahead, the youngster stopped and pointed vigorously off towards the
horizon. On the way home, he described a rather large antelope that had a
light-colored coat with dark conspicuous markings, especially on its face,
and a pair of straight, vicious-looking horns Reynolds never saw it, but
suggested that the boy may have seen an Arabian Oryx, a species that had
almost been exterminated in the 1970s and was only then being restored to
near-desert areas. "If that was an oryx," he added, "those long horns WERE
lethal, for the animal had been known to kill lions with them!" It was
just as well that they had antelope to talk about because Tommy didn't have
the stomach to return to the slave images that were now burned into his
soul.

(Progress!)

Blessed be! When they returned home, they found that the workmen had
finished the structural and electrical work in the large basement room that
would be their gym. Not only that, but after completing the plumbing, they
had also finished installing the small shower stall that was tucked into
one end of the room. A limited area around the shower had been tiled. Now
it was simply a matter of installing the carpet and making sure that the
equipment coming on the morrow was well placed. Progress!

The doctor's heart went out to Tommy in thanks when the teen eating machine
settled for a sandwich, salad, and (large) dish of ice cream for dinner.
In fact, as soon as the few dishes and extra food were cleaned up, the
young man grabbed the doctor's hand and almost dragged him upstairs to the
bedroom.

Following a fast, pretty much all-business shower (which if not especially
romantic did remove most of the riding dust), the pair returned to the
bedroom. There Tommy firmly instructed his hero (and, though he could not
as yet put it in those words, his beloved) to lie face down on the bed.
Spreading a small amount of an excellent rubdown cream on his hands, he
proceeded to give Eli a memorable massage. Perhaps there was only one,
tiny miscalculation - and, then again, maybe not even that. When the youth
straddled his subject, he was fairly close to his body. The reader may
remember that the youth's balls were both large and heavy and were carried
at the bottom of a fairly long sack. Hence, as he swung his body backwards
and forwards . . . (Believe that they both enjoyed the extra treatment!)

At the end of the evening, Tommy settled into Eli's arms with a sigh, for
he, too, was weary. The good doctor did say something about the need to
hire a top tutor and get his ward back on the educational path, but,
frankly, the golden-haired one didn't hear much of it. Rather, as Eli
reached over to get the light, the boy just moaned in great pleasure,
wrapped Eli's arm just a bit more tightly around his chest, and wiggled his
butt a little deeper into the doctor's groin. It had been a good day.
