37: Trouble In Paradise
Eva was in a state like I had never seen before. She was angry and crying
and stamping her feet and crying and yelling at me. I just backed out of
the room to seek some more sage advice. Who from I had no idea. Lets face
it when it comes to women no one around this place has any real experience.
I went around asking everyone and anyone if they knew, what it was that had
up set her. No one had any idea but Mats did tell me she had been talking
to her brother earlier in the day. I figured it had something to do with
her family.
I did manage to find out that a girl getting married in Switzerland wears a
traditional crown or wreath, which symbolizes her maidenhood and after the
ceremony the wreath is removed a burned. Well that's one we will have no
truck with for sure. (the uses of truck here can be attributed to Mark
Twain, it is archaic meaning barter.) Eva's crown will be far to valuable
for that.
Now the Dutch invented the Bridal Shower, also big in Canada the U.S. and I
guess in other places. Anyway Eva would not be having one of these, the
last thing she needed was a bunch of gifts. I thought a couple of good
parties however would be in order. One in Switzerland, one in the
Netherlands and of course, one in Calgary. While the ladies partied we
boys could find something useful to do with ourselves.
A Traditional Dutch wedding is under the pines where the guests come and
bestow their blessing on the happy couple. I like that all right and well
the top of a front range mountain, followed by a big party at the Flying H,
is more or less the same idea. Dutch weddings, like most Dutch traditional
things, involve lots of food. In this Helga would have her way but perhaps
with a Western Canadian twist. I figure a hip of beef on the BBQ instead
of the sweetmeats called "bridal sugar", would do.
Teasing or playing jokes on the couple is common to almost all cultures. I
expect this fact will not be lost on my brothers, it is something we will
just have to live with.
All that aside I did need to figure out what was sticking in Eva's craw,
another Klassism just in case you were wondering. I found David playing
with the other children in the garden. He had gotten to her on a deep
emphatic and emotional level. I asked him to try and find out what was
upsetting her. David reported that she was upset with her father, who has
refused to receive you two on your planned visit or to even consider
attending your wedding. I thanked him, patting his little butt and sent
him to rejoin the other children.
This is one for Klass and Mats, not me. I was just to emotionally
involved. My woman was up set with her family. A totally rational man
would learn the cause, develop a plan and find a way to mediate the
situation. I can not be rational, love is not rational. Besides that, a
rejection of Eva is a rejection of me. My ego was bruised too, big time.
This whole thing made no sense to me either. I could not imagine how a
parent could be anything but supportive toward their child, in something as
important as her wedding. I can not think of a valid reason for parents
and children not to have open and honest communication. They do not always
need to agree on everything but those disagreements should not get in the
way of a family's love and respect. This is something you don't fully
realize until you unexpectedly find yourself without parents or I suspect
parents find themselves suddenly without children. That's when 'shoulda',
'coulda', 'woulda', provide anything but soles. I guess I just don't
understand, no experience with it, I always got on well with my parents.
Not that we agreed on everything, we didn't, not that I didn't do things
that upset them, I did. They would never have told me not to visit them or
refused an invitation to an important event in my life.
Klass and Mats decided to contact Smitwit and seek his help, after I told
them of the problem. I didn't learn until much later what they had done.
Their success was evident right after our arrival in Bern. Frau Smitwit
went with Marcel to Eva's village and visited her parents. They are close
in age to the Heits and also parents. They also understood the culture a
lot better them any of us, which was a big help. They went armed with
personal knowledge of the couple, as well as many photographs and the
Adonis family history, which had been updated to just after David joined
us. I would like to think it was Trevor's picture of Jonas, Shelley, Eva
and I or the official photo of Eva and I with the Queen; or perhaps one of
Eva comforting little, frightened David.
Over the next week I through myself into my work. I didn't notice all the
activity. To be more exact I was aware of all the activity but paid no
real attention to it. Everyone seemed as busy as I was, but except for the
business my brothers were involved in, I was completely in the dark about
what any of them were doing. I should have know something was up but I was
lost in the detail of my job. Every room in the house was stuffed with
people. All the young boys were now resident in the ball room on the third
floor. This included our two singing friends Wilson and Eddy who were
accompanied by Eddy's voice coach, Harold a well know singer from the
Minneapolis-St. Paul Opera company and Alexandria's mother, Rita, a world
class concert violinist and Eddy's big brother Richard. The singers were
giving a performance at the Concertgebouw and we were front row guests,
including Jonas and Shelley.
I could hear them off and on during the day running scales and singing
together. They were to sing solos, duets, with the Amsterdam Children's
Choir a part of the Utrecht Cathedral Choir School. Jonas made the rounds
making sure we all had our black ties properly tied. I guess he has gotten
quite good at this. I thought it quite funny. He would come barging into
a room, gain your attention, inspect, adjust and march off to his next
inspection. He had the most trouble with David who had no experience with
this kind of dress, but they seemed to both approach the problem with lots
and lots of humor, much giggling anyway.
It took three limos to get us to and from the venue. Herman's
organizational skills were being tested, he sure passed this full court
press. Many people recognized Jonas and Shelley, you could see they
wondered why deaf children were attending a concert but were to polite to
say anything. We took our seats. We were a bit early and our singers were
a bit late but it would all work out I thought. Harold and Rita went back
stage with the singers.
Everyone performed very well. They sang many classical pieces and each boy
soloed with the choir and then on their own. They also did several duets.
The last piece was called From The Heart-Friends Forever. I had not
noticed that Jonas and Shelley had disappeared from our front row seats.
Wilson and Eddy stepped forward, Wilson speaking in Dutch and Eddy in
English
"The last piece on the program is called "From the Heart-Forever Friends",
it is a tribute to our friends Jonas Sanders and Shelley Abitsford. You
may know they are deaf so we ask them to sing along with us, as a way of
sharing in our joy and pleasure of performing for you." Jonas and Shelley
came out to thunderous applause.
"Look at that Eddy they got a bigger hand then we did and they haven't done
anything yet." Wilson spoke and signed. Shelley and Jonas kissed in their
now patented pose to even a greater ovation.
Shelley signed and Wilson translated in Dutch, Eddy in English. "You have
just been upstaged by your silent partners." This got a long round of
laughter from everyone, the choir was also clapping and laughing.
"The Choir, Eddy and I want to substitute our encore with this last piece,
we hope you understand. Jonas do you sign DSL?"
"Not well enough to sing but the words should come up on the screen above
the stage." He signed the boys spoke.
Shelley signed, we want to dedicate this to all the deaf children and to
our great friends Jason Adonis and Eva Heit for making our visit to the
Netherlands possible and for inviting the four of us to participate in
their wedding next month."
"The wedding will be on the top a mountain in Alberta, Canada and it is
even higher then the notes Wilson and Eddy can reach." Jonas added,
stretching his arm up as high above himself as possible. Again much
applause and whistling.
"The happy couple is sitting in the front row." Eddy added pointing to us.
I just want to crawl under the seat but I'm to large or its to small.
Wilson was gesturing for us to stand up, the other three joined in. Eva
garbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. We turned to the audience and
gave a brief wave again to more thunderous applause.
Shelley and Jonas had their eyes fixed on the Choir Master, that is how
they would know when to sign each word or phrase. He raised his arm and
Rita and Harold began to play a brief intro.
They sang five songs with only a pause for applause between them: Fame,
from the musical of the same name, Only You, Unchanged Melody and the Brian
Adams songs Straight From the Heart and You Can Depend On Me, oldies but
goodies, words that the kids could easily sign, and melodies Harold could
arrange for violin and piano. Wilson and Eddy signed along with them and
the choir did its background thing. It was a wonderful success. The joy
and pride on the faces of our four little friends and on the choir was even
more wonderful then the sound, which was outstanding to say the least.
Instead of the curtain coming down it stayed up when the house lights came
on. The children in the choir all mobbed our four, shaking hands and
hugging. It took hours, well it seemed like hours, for us to clear the
building. In the lobby Wilson, Eddy, Jonas and Shelley were autographing
programs and copies of the book. Herman had the brothers arranged behind
them, directing traffic and trying to keep the lines moving. That worked
until the other performers showed up, after that complete and utter chaos.
Apollo, Brad and Trevor worked the cameras overtime through the whole thing
but I think the singing shots will be among the best. Klass, David, Sandra
and Drew were meeting people along with all the rest of the adults. By the
time we were ready to leave the Stienhouer grandchildren and a whole group
of kids from the neighborhood were gathered around. We invited everyone to
our place for cake and ice-cream. I only hoped the baker had enough cakes
ready. I had no idea I knew that many people or that many people knew or
wanted to know me. To be honest they wanted to know Eva, some times us man
are just along for the ride.
Apollo's traveling art exhibit was on at the Rijksumseum and now that the
music critics knew about the connection between Wilson, Eddy and the
"Friends Forever" they would have lots to write about. I was hopping the
social pages would find their story more appealing than mine but with Eva
answering questions about our wedding plans I was not so sure. Mats seemed
to have them under control, as much as one ever has reporters under control
that is.
One asked me if we were holding the ceremony on a mountain top for reasons
of privacy. "No, if we wanted privet we would have eloped. It is where it
is because Eva picked that place. As I understand it the ceremony will
involve about 25 people plus ourselves and the Justice of the Peace. I
don't call that privet."
A fellow from one of the London tabloids wanted to know who was paying and
how much it would cost.
"No comment on that," was my curt response. Now this fellow did not wish
to be blown off by sharpness. I guess he did not know me very well. He
was being persistent and as I attempted to move away he made the mistake of
getting in my face again. This got the attention of my brothers and some
others; the other reporters sensing trouble backed away quickly.
"I have no further comments on the subject," I said and turned away again.
He placed his hand on my shoulder which was the mistake of his life. That
may be a bit dramatic but at least the mistake of the day. I whirled
around bringing my right cross into play. Fortunately Herman was in a
position to block my thrust by deflecting the blow. It did not land, it
would not have landed anyway, Drew and Eddy had moved on him and he was
already on the floor and I am sure in some pain. Shelley was picking up
the remains of his tape recorder which flew out of his hand. One of the
"rent-a-cops" came close to her but thought better of getting involved as
the PPI staff instantly materialized out of nowhere. The reporter was now
completely surrounded by my brothers. Most of the other adults cut us off
from the children and the public that were still in the room. Richard
Andersen was holding Eddy back and Klass had Drew by the coat, preventing
them from doing any more damage. A number of other journalists were
standing off to the side as Shelley handed the parts to Margaret. I
noticed the PPI guys putting their hand guns away.
Margaret came into the circle handing him the parts and helping him up
along with Will.
"Margaret Trend," she said, "I'm the principal press agent here, that was a
stupid thing to do and if you ever touch one of my clients again your burnt
toast, do I make myself perfectly clear?" In the mean time Veronica and
Mats were talking to the other reporters still present. I don't know what
they said but this incident never got reported or even alluded to.
......................
"Ok, Ziggy who is on the train and who is flying."
"Jonas, Eddy, Richard, Trevor, Wilson, Eric, Drew, Klass, David, Sandra,
Shelley, two of Herman's men, Harold, Rita and Will, are to fly with Johan
and Ed.
Bob, Margaret, you and Eva, Brad, Linda, Apollo, Veronica, Harold, Mats,
me, Geoff, Stan, Herman and one of his man, are on the train. We pickup
Reinhard in Paris, Geoff is sharing with him. I think he has designs on
our brother-in-laws ass, well hopes anyway.
Stan thought we would put up our guests at the hotel just down the street
and we, including Mats and Herman would all stay at our townhouse. I guess
we will know how much success Geoff has depending on where Reinhard stays.
Stan also thought the couples would appreciate the peace of having your own
rooms on the hotel train."
"And the remainder of your plans?"
"Darko and Shasa are coming with their new parents by commercial and we are
sending a car for the Heits. Hare Smitwit and Warner are coordinating
everything in Bern, Kirk and Penny, Mrs Smitwit and Warner's lady. All of
our relatives, well most of them will also attend. I am master of
ceremony. Oh, you are expected to play keyboard for some of the music.
Most of our European managers and their families will also attend. We
booked 85% of the hotel. Beef from the Flying H, wine and spirits from our
vineyards, the usual stuff like that. Mats has your days and evenings well
booked too."
"Besides introducing Eva to our relatives and her relatives to us, will
your little party, no big party, be embarrassing to us?"
"Only you, well mostly you anyway, us too, don't concern yourself, I won't
give away any of our secrets. Unless..."
"Unless what?"
"Unless you fail to give Drew and I some of your love, I know I'm suffering
from a Jason sperm deficit. I'll bet Drew is too. All the females are
heading for the dress maker this afternoon." Ziggy said in a sing song
voice as he wiggled his ass. "Drew and I will be back in a few minutes,
just hold your erection."
No sooner had Herman escorted the ladies out of the house then everyone but
Klass and David were in little groups fucking and sucking like they had
been deprived for weeks instead of hours or perhaps days. I wondered what
David thought about all this brotherly love. I wondered if David ever felt
left out on the physical side, that is. ......................
Our time in Bern would be filled to overflowing. Eva and I had what seemed
like endless meetings with both our families and we had our Canadian and
American guests to consider. Mats and Stan had worked out a plan for the
younger people, the under 20 group, to travel around the area visiting
sites like the zoo. They rented a bus and hired professional tour guides.
That proved to be a good way for all the children to get aquatinted, form
friendships and who knows, some of our cousins are good lookers.
Surprisingly about 65% girls. A statistic I had never thought about,
pointed out by Trevor. Eva's cousins and their children were about evenly
split boys and girls. In total with our young friends we had 45 young
people on the tours.
Klass, Eva and I held court in the great room of our townhouse. We
received different groups of related adults. Mats made sure everyone who
came was properly recorded as to name, address and relationship within
their own families but also to us. The Heits were not a large family only
numbering about 35 aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents and first cousins
in the over 21 group. The Adonis' numbered closer to 55 that could make
the visit. About 10 were unable to attend. None carried the Adonis or
Henderson names, it did get a bit confusing. We did not go beyond my dad's
second cousins in relationships otherwise we would have had several
hundred.
I think Eva's people felt a bit out of place at first. They are small town
rural people, mostly farmers. A couple of her cousins are married to
professionals but they too live in small villages and towns. Eva and
Reinhard are the first of their generation to go off to school or the big
city. Eva's nieces were sent with the other children on tours. Wilson,
Eddy and David were commissioned to pay special attention to the younger
ones although all the kids pitched in; however, the teenagers were more
interested in impressing their counterparts of the opposite sex than
anything else.
Apollo's flying circus was off at their events and meeting the deaf
community. Richard Andersen-Big Chief was the biggest kid hit, being a
real Indian. I understand they were a bit incredulous since he was not
dressed properly. They were even more incredulous that blond and blue eyed
Eddy was a member of the Big-Chief Clan but when they started speaking
Chippewa, you get the idea.
Eva and I were a bit disappointed not to have been a part of the young
people's fun, an engaged couple has got to do what they got to do. Things
like meet and seek the approval of your future in-laws become a bit of a
priority. The Heits, appear to be good people, perhaps a bit old fashioned
or stogie in attitudes but honest people of the land, as they say in the
west. They professed deep religious, Protestant Christian, beliefs. I try
not to let this stuff influence my opinions. I find the more fervent the
religious declarations the greater the hypocrisy. That is a gross
generalization, that is the kind of a stereotype that can get in the way of
solid relationships. I just try and ignore it.
Klass and Eva's dad got into a long discussion about the nature of
families. It was klass that put it all in prospective for all of us.
"Except for Jason and myself the others are part of this family by choice,
not birth. In fact only Jason had no choice.
I was very proud of Eva. She had made her internal peace with her brother
Karl, and showed genuine friendship toward her, no our, sister in law,
Wilma. I think Reinhard was also pleased to see his older brother and
younger sister, laughing and enjoying each other's company. I found Karl
to be a straight forward down to earth person, much like my new
father-in-law. We would all get along fine. I don't quite know what their
expectations were. I was convinced by the end of that day they had
changed. I suspect they thought I was just a spoiled rich kid with a
privet school attitude. Well I am a rich kid, with a privet school
education. It was obvious they were impressed that we livd on a working
ranch and made an honest effort to keep the way we lived in some kind of
perspective.
Eva's mother was a very quiet person and I think quite shy. She took to me
almost instantly. I am not sure if it is my winning smile or the honor and
respect I show toward her and Eva. The fondness and genuine respect I show
toward Mrs. Talg our house keeper in Bern or perhaps the level of respect
Reinhard and I share for each other. It was also obvious both mother and
Wilma were envious of Eva. I don't mean that in a negative way, they were
envious of her independence and spunk, her position of authority. You
could see it in their faces as Eva described her wedding plans.
It was Wilson, Eddy, Jonas and Shelley that overwhelmed them. They all
came in singing with their grandchildren. Eva introduced the children.
Wilson and Eddy immediately engaged Karl, Reinhard, and Wilma along with
the girls. Jonas and Shelley immediately made friends with mom and dad.
They didn't speak German or French sign lanugage, not that her parents
would have understood it anyway. What got them was that Eva and I sat on
the floor with the children, so they could tell us about all the neat stuff
they did that day. I had to call Wilson over to help with the ASL and his
ability to translate to German on the fly was also impressive. Jonas
shared his photographs and them, climbed up on the sofa next to Eva's mom.
He missed his own grandmother that was evident. Jonas proceeded to share
his sketch book with her. Hell he won't even show it to Apollo let alone
any of us lesser mortals.
"De papa, hun papa, is een Admiral hier om u, vader te zien snel komen."
(Daddy, daddy, their is an Admiral here to see you, father come quick.) A
shrill alto voice boomed into our room follow by David at just under the
speed of sound. Now this Dutch is so close to German that no translation
was needed. Klass reach out to slow the boy down as he was flashing past
him. Klass was sitting in high back chair and David could not see him.
"Hold on son. What is it?"
"There is this man with more gold barde on his uniform than I ever thought
possible. He is at the door asking for you. Hi, I'm David the new boy."
He was pulling on Klass' hand to get him moving. Klass, roll his eyes,
rose, swept the boy up, kissed his forehead and placed him in the chair.
"I'll go, you stay here." All the adults were trying very hard not to
laugh as David quickly shook everyone's hand and melted into the knot of
children.
Klass introduced the Admiral to everyone. He was in fact an Admiral in the
Canadian Navy, he had the Henderson book under his arm. Being a nephew of
Captain Henderson he just had to meet the man responsible for producing it.
Klass was embarrassed but bucked up and told his story to all assembled.
He showed the Admiral pictures of his dad, my dad, himself as a child and
so on. It turned out the Admiral was in Ottawa when Klass visited B.C. and
was now posted to Geneva on some mission or another.
All this activity I'm sure was a bit intimidating for the Heits. Eva just
noted this was more or less normal. "Never a dull moment around this
family and if things get slow someone finds a way to stir it up." Eva
said, stroking my head.
Eva was very tired and turned in early. I think she wanted me to join her
but I could see she would be asleep before her head hit the pillow. Drew,
Sandra and David turned in soon after, leaving the original seven plus
others to our own devices. As if by some prearrangement Trevor and Will
took me into their room. After helping me undress I was placed in the
center of a bed. Trevor on my right and Will on my left. Trevor's big
mouth was engulfing my penis, taking the head deep in his throat and
milking it with a swallowing action while his hands played across my
testicles and with my ass. Will was paying close attention to my nipples
and face he was kissing every square inch of my flesh. My hands were
touching as much of both as they could reach. Will had tears in his eyes
as he kissed my lips. Taking his face in my hands I licked those salty
droplets from his cheeks.
Will slides up and presents his penis to my empty mouth. I run my tongue
around the head before devouring Will's length into my throat. Pressing
his pubic bone against my nose I enjoy his wonderful masculine smell.
Trevor moves and we reconfigure with Will on his back I place his cock
again into my mouth. Trevor pulls my ass higher into the air and slides
his 11 inches into my ass. In a short time Will will be emptying his load
in my ass while Trevor and I are locked in a sixty nine. God I hope Eva
stays asleep until the morning.
Something was happening between my legs. Something was happening to my
whole body. I opened my eyes revealing my lovely Eva sitting astride my
hips pressing her slick femininity against my penis sliding along its
length slowly back and forth. Her ample breasts bounding up and down. Her
nipples so inviting, large round and projecting, begging for my tongue. My
hands slide along her legs sending shivers through her body stopping one on
each butt cheek. Easing her crotch forward toward my oral pleasure
machine. My tongue darting in and out in anticipation of her miniature
penis. I like her smell, I like her taste as my tongue travels the length
of her vaginal lips darting in and out of the cavity and across the clit
like it is a breast nipple. Eva is writhing and slides her ass back
positioning her crotch directly over my erection. With a slight wiggle of
her hips my cock head slides between the wet, slippery lips into the hot
silken cavity of her virginia. I press up to meet he downward motion and
we do a slow and steady crotch dance building like Ravel's Bolero to the
ultimate climax, not exactly at the same time but close enough.
We shower together playing crotch and butt tag. To bad Eva is not into
butt fucking. The most she allows is gentle stimulation to the outer
surface of the anus, which I administer while licking water drops from her
nipples.
I finally get a few minutes alone with David in the late morning. He likes
Bern and all the new people he is meeting. I think he is surprised at how
openly he is being accepted by all our relatives and that makes him feel
good. It make me feel good too. I finally ask him straight out how he
feels about all the male sex that goes on in the family. He has no opinion
one way or the other. He told me Klass had assured, none of us would ever
pressure him, in fact we were forbidden from even asking him. He was free
to do what he wanted in that regard when and if he wanted. We would not
think any the less of him if he chose not but if he had sex with one he
should be willing to have with all. David said he understood the idea of
mutual respect and that brothers can and do love each other, that sex is
not required and never expected. "I don't feel excluded, I know you all
want me, it just..."
"I know little one, we all know and we respect and love you to much to
ever..." I pulled him to my body and he pressed his face against my chest
for a long while.
37a: Lets Party
Our pre-wedding party was something else. Stan and Mats had out done
themselves again. Things were organized down to the second and every
detail had been thought through and looked after. The hotel staff served
with precision and the food was cooked to perfection. We did the reception
line thing, Eva and I welcomed everyone who came in. Stan made sure
everyone had a name tag, Trevor and Apollo took lots of pictures, all the
usual stuff.
Ziggy called everyone to their assigned tables, every place had a name tag
and people were mixed up so they would all get to know someone new.
"Welcome to the party. We are here to honor Jason Adonis and Eva Heit, our
oldest brother and so far only sister. They will be married on ... The
program tonight is as follows. First we eat, second we have an unusual
presentation that is designed to honor and perhaps embarrass our honored
couple, third the Adonis brothers with the help of a few friends will
entertain you and we hope Eva and Jason, forth we party." He looked at his
watch and signaled. The food began flowing, in minutes everyone, all 300
or so were served.
As soon as the first course was delivered the large screen TVs, placed
around the room came to life and Helga's face appeared, "I am Helga van
Witt, I have been Jason's nanny and house keeper for over 20 years..." She
told everyone what a difficult child I was and what a delight Eva has been
since coming to work for Klass. "Now you children behave yourselves and be
sure and eat all your vegetables." Everyone else followed, Klass, my
brothers, Eva's parents and siblings, Aunts, Uncles, managers and friends,
everyone but Jonas and Shelley. Many of the most memorable were from
children like Darko and Penny.
After the plates were cleared and while coffee was being served Ziggy
introduced the entertainment. With Harold, Richard and Rita joining my
brothers including Drew and David in the band. Wilson and Eddy sang along
with the band. They were good too. Ziggy had introduced all the
entertainers and made some brief comments between songs. Jonas and Shelley
were sitting with Eva and I. I know they could not hear but they responded
to the showmanship. They did a whole range of love songs from the 40's
through today. Ziggy called J & S up and they performed the same five
songs with Eddy and Wilson, the others providing a course. "Please
welcome, fresh from their command performance in Amsterdam "the four
sopranos" Jonas Sanders, Shelley Abitsford, Eddy Anderson and Wilson
Kirk-Roe." When they finished some stage adjustments took place. Ziggy
called Eva and I up. Eva and Shelley were seated on a pair of high stools.
Eva was dressed in a white low cut gown and Shelley in a frilled but not
over little girl white dress. Eva had her initial pendent around her neck
and Shelley her new diamond and emerald neckless. Jonas, Wilson and Eddy
had tuxedos and my brothers and I dressed in our crested blazers. Jonas
had his badge of station around his neck and over his black tie. Rita had
a lovely long evening gown in light blue and Harold wore a tux.
Jonas signed and Ziggy translated. "It is traditional for the best man and
maiden of honor to make a speech about the bride and groom. Shelley and I
are making a little change in that but before we do, I just want to say
Jason and Eva have touched our lives and we will never the same again.
They have touched the lives of everyone in this room and none of you are
the same. Eva, Jason, thank you and please don't ever stop doing what you
do. Now Jason please sit at the piano, you and I are going to sing a
tribute to our ladies. You can cary a tune right?" He pointed, I sat,
Jonas stood next to the piano bench on the audience side. Ziggy was
translating in French, German and Dutch, so their was a kind of dramatic
pause between thoughts. Now I don't have all that good a voice but the
arrangement was simple. I began to play as the others all hummed and
joined in at the appropriate time. I sang and Jonas signed another Brian
Adams song. (Everything I do) I Do It For You. Fortunately for me, I am a
huge Brian Adams fan. I call him the little kid from Vancouver. If anyone
wondered why these two children were picked to stand up with us I guess
they wonder no longer.
Everyone was hooting, clapping and hitting their glasses with cutlery.
That is a signal for the men to kiss the ladies. Ziggy tapped Jonas on the
shoulder and signed something. His face turned bright red and he looked up
at me. I nodded and we crossed the stage to give our ladies a big and long
kiss. Not the little kid kiss they do so often. Eva bent down and kissed
Jonas on the forehead, now he turned even redder. I took Shelley's hand
and bending forward kissed like one would see an a movie from the 1930's.
Shelley giggled.
It was our turn for a speech, our public was demanding it. We did not say
to much except to thank everyone for honoring us by their attendance. We
also thanked our families for all their support and for putting on such a
wonderful party. The clanking of the glasses began again. Jonas saw that
and signed to me, "you always tell us to do the right thing. It's the
right thing to do." Ziggy translated and before he got the words out the
audience in four languages chimed in "Its the right thing to do." So we
did the right thing and cleared the stage. Ziggy announced a short
restroom brake. The professional musicians would take the stage in a short
while and dancing would begin.
After the first dance with each other Eva and I made the rounds to every
table. The under 14 group assembled in one area and had their own
sub-party with the boys trying to act grown up and dancing with the young
girls. The over 14 under 30 group was partying full out. I was amazed at
how well Bob did on the dance floor until I realized he just let the girl

The next morning was very interesting, some of my brothers did not make it
home. I assumed they scored with a few of the ladies, boys of interest
were in short supply. At least one brother, Geoff scored with a boy, I
could see he and Reinhard had shared a bed and I also heard four voices
Sandra, Drew, Ziggy and an unidentified female coming from another room.
We were all drifting down to a buffet breakfast so one never quite knows
who came in, who was in, or with who. That's Ok, I am not my brother's
keeper in both the philosophical or real sense, now am I? I'll answer that
for you, no I am not but at the same time I can and I guess am just a bit
of a gossip. I do know Herman or his people knew but they would never
reveal it, that is their job to know and they need the complete trust of
those they protect to do it properly.
Klass was holding court in the dining room greeting everyone and making all
kinds of jokes. Frau Talg obviously had lots of help in the kitchen. We
were being served a Calgary Stamped style breakfast: eggs, pancakes with
real maple syrup, sausages, baked beans, bisects and beverages. This is
quite different from the typical European fair so everyone was coming for a
taste of Canada. It seemed like all 300 stopped for a last good by. We
had people everywhere in the place. All the children were trying to out do
each other with their adventures and stories, Klass was sitting on the
floor in the middle of all those kids acting very much like one of them, if
the truth were to be told. Apollo and I found ourselves trapped in the
library while the young ones were spreading exaggerated tails of how one or
the other of us rescued or helped them. To hear David tell it Drew single
handily secured Trader's Island just to liberate him and Darko made it
sound like Eva, Ziggy and I did the operating.
As I worked my way out of the library and into the great room I was
suddenly mobbed by every female over 18. The children segregated more or
less by age, the adults by sex. Eva had been telling them about our car
ride and my off handed proposal while motoring toward the front range of
the Canadian Rockies. That plus the rings had earned me the romantic of
the month award setting a new standard for all their men. This would soon
see them, the men, bestowing a different kind of award on me.
Harold and Klass got the children to form up into a choir and sing. This
time it was Drew singing to Sandra and Jonas to Shelley recreating our
performance from the night before. Sandra was sitting under my mother's
portrait and damn if she didn't look just like her, something that did not
go unnoticed by the ladies at any rate. I think Drew did as good a job as
I did, almost, his tones are more alto and tenor, mine just gravely. But
being so young and cute it didn't matter, all the girls and some of the
young ladies instantly formed a huge crush on the boy and a gross case of
envy for Sandra.
"Well Karl, I hope you change your mind," I said.
"It is very hard to get away from a dairy farm for more then a few days."
"I understand that but let me tell you a little story. We were eating
breakfast on Trader's Island the morning after David's and island's
liberation. I wanted to discuss David's future but Klass just said to me,
the boy is coming with me to Calgary, Jason make it happen. As you can
see." I pointed to Klass and the kids sitting on the floor. "Klass is
more grandfather than father and grandparents are concerned only with the
welfare and happiness of the grandchildren. Children our age, the little
ones' parents, are just expected to, make it happen." Karl smiled a
knowing kind of smile. "Right now your mother, well our mother I guess, is
telling your daughters, my nieces that the horses Jonas and Shelley rode in
the Stamped Parade live just down the hill from our house at the Flying H.
Those girls will give you no rest until you take them to Canada." His eyes
lit up with recognition.
"Lassen Sie es geschehen, Karl" ("Make it happen, Karl") he said, I just
nodded in agreement.
"Johan and Ed will pick your family up at the Bern International airport,
you met them?"
"Oh, yes I had no idea they were from the Bern area until they told me. Oh,
ah.." I looked over to see Geoff and Reinhard holding hands and staring
into each other's eyes as they began sneaking up the stairs.
"Brother," I said, "In the Adonis family we only have one rule." He looked
intensely at me. I did the hands over eyes, hands over ears, hands over
mouth. He just smiled. I think the boy is getting the picture. I wonder
how long it will be after he sees the dairying operations in Alberta before
he immigrates.
"When Jonas gave his little speech about you and Eva touching all our
lives, father and I thought little of it. He probably still feels you
won't impact on him. I can see you already have changed my family."
"No Karl I have not changed anyone, only you can change yourselves. All
Eva and I can do is provide the catalyst or the example, everything else
comes from within yourselves. Someone told me once that when ever I come
in contact with another I leave a piece of myself. I don't think that is
just true of me, I think it is true of everyone."
