Chapter Twenty Five

James shared the details of our grand adventure in Miami while we enjoyed
our meal. After lunch, I placed a call to the billeting office and got the
number of Cory's dorm room. I placed a call and Cory answered the phone.
"Cory, I would like for you and your five buddies to join me at my house for
dinner this evening. Is your intake buddy there?" I asked.

"Just a minute." Cory replied.

"This is Justin." the intake buddy stated.

"Hi Justin, it Tim Stevens. Would you bring Cory to my house at 7:00pm and
ask his friends' intake buddies to bring them along as well?" I asked.

"Sure thing Tim. See you at 7:00pm, bye. he said before hanging up.

"Stefan, we will be having six guests for dinner tonight. Please arrange for
us to eat on the rear deck. I would like you and David to join us of
course." I instructed.

"No problem Tim. I was planning on lasagna tonight. Will that be okay?" he
asked.

"That will be perfect." I replied. "Make sure we have enough soda for
everyone."

James and I decided to go to our offices for a while and check our messages
and emails. There were no messages on my machine but I did have numerous
emails to weed though. One of the emails was from onboard Caribbean Angels.
It was from Nathan. He was just letting me know that he was very happy with
his new position and that if gave him more time with Phillip. Nathan was
hired as the head of the room service group onboard. He was given the same
rotation as Phillip.

I also found an email from Vasile Predescu. He is the director of an
orphanage we operate in Romania. The email informed me that Government
Certifications of private orphanages were being terminated, and all private
orphanages were being shut down. The problem is, there is no room available
in the already overcrowded State orphanages. Until two years ago, being gay
in Romania meant spending time in prison. Gay boys are thrown away there,
just as they are in America. We provide a place for forty such boys, but if
this email is correct, they will soon be homeless again. I replied to the
email and asked for more details.

I gave Allen a ring and ask him to stop by my office. I worked through the
remainder of my emails and went to grab a soda before Allen got here. When
Allen arrived, I escorted him back to my office and closed the door. I
filled Allen in on the situation that was developing in Romania and told him
we may have to take some drastic action. He agreed, but he did have some
major concerns. "Bringing forty Romanian boys to Jason's Haven will be a
logistics nightmare." he stated.

"I agree. But I am confident that we can pull it off. I know the head of the
National Authority for Child Protection in Romania so getting them out will
not be a problem. The one thing that Romania has more of than orphans, is
corruption." I replied.

"Do any of the boys speak English?" he asked.

"Some do, but only slightly. We can bring Vasile along with them and he can
teach the boys English once they have arrived." I responded.

"What about repatriation?" he asked. "We will never be able to get that many
boys legalized in the States when they age out."

"We can give them jobs here on Jason's Haven when they age out. When they
are ready to leave, we can take them back to Romania. With the money they
will have made by then, they will be able to provide for themselves quite
nicely there." I explained.

"Isn't HIV very common in Romanian Orphans?" he asked.

"Yes. But all of these boys have been regularly tested and they all tested
negative. We would simply have to test them again when they arrive and make
sure they don't have sexual contact for a week. Orientation week will take
care of that issue for us." I insisted.

"I will need to block off forty rooms in the new dorm building to keep them
together. That will help Vasile keep up with them." Allen stated.

"That's a good idea Allen. Make the arrangements and I will find out more
about the situation there before we totally commit to this." I instructed.
Allen got up and I walked him out to the front door. We said our goodbyes
and then I walked up to check on James. I knocked on his office door and he
told me to come in. "How is everything with the cruise line?" I asked.

"Everything is running smoothly. Bookings are up to ten months in advance."
he said proudly.

"That's because I hired such a smart young man to run the cruise line." I
stated, as I flashed him a big smile. "What's this?" I asked as I spotted a
ship brochure on his desk.

"I am studying the possibility of added a second cruise ship. A lot of our
customers have been asking for longer cruises. I am looking at a possible
cruise itinerary between Fort Lauderdale, Nassau, Jamaica, and Jason's
Haven. It would be a twelve day cruise." he stated.

"So you would have a different dress code since the ship would stop at other
ports?" I asked.

"Yes, the crew would be uniformed on port days but would still be restricted
to the ship. The passengers would be required to dress on port days also.
Except for Jason's Haven of course." he replied.

"Work up the numbers and I will take a look at them. That would add a
capacity of three hundred more boys and that would be fantastic. But you
would have to stagger the ships so that they are at Jason's Haven on
different days. Having passengers from both ships on the island at the same
time would overload our little paradise." I chuckled.

"Like I said, I am not sure about adding the new ship just yet. I was all
ready to move forward until our trip to Miami. Now I think it is best to
take it a bit slower and look at all the risks involved." he stated.

I walked over and kissed him on the lips. "You're a quick learner angel boy.
I'm very proud of you." I stated in a loving voice. I left James to his work
and took a tour of the island. I was pleased to see everything back to
normal after all of the expansion work that had been done on the customer
end of the island. I stopped in to get a massage but the salon was booked
solid for the day. I could have pulled rank but the customers happiness was
more important so I just headed for the beach.

As I strolled along the beach, I ran into Brian. "How is everything with you
Brian?" I asked.

"I'm great Tim. How about you? I heard you played a little baseball in
Miami." he chuckled.

"Yeah I guess I did. But I lost!" I exclaimed.

"Well, everyone has to get old sometime Tim." he quipped.

"Old my ass! You and me, on the volleyball court right now mister." I
replied with a grin.

"Should we put the infirmary staff on standby?" he smarted off.

"You just bring your game, pal!" I replied.

We walked down to the volleyball courts and took the front court. I started
stretching my arms and legs to get warmed up. As I did, I noticed that many
of the boys that were on the beach started gathering around the court. "What
the hell did I just get myself into?" I thought to myself.

"The game is to twenty one. Would you like me to spot you a few points
gramps?" Brian asked impishly.

"Oh, 'it's on' now little man! You want to serve first?" I asked.

"Age before beauty pops." he quipped. By now, we had a very large crowd of
boys cheering for us. The crowd seemed to be evenly split. Part of the crowd
wanted Brian to teach the old man a lesson. The other part wanted me to take
Brian to school. I was just hoping I did not embarrass myself to badly. I
served up an ace to start the game and managed to score five unanswered
points. Brian made a game of it by coming back to take the lead from me.

We played on, and we were both giving it our all. After a very long back and
forth battle, I had the serve with the score twenty to eighteen in my favor.
I served the ball and we volleyed back and forth for what seemed like an
eternity before Brian put me in the sand with a spike. He served up the next
ball and I volleyed it back to him. He jumped up to spike me again but I
blocked it at the net, forcing another side out. My next serve had a little
mustard on it and Brian was forced to lob the ball back to me. I ripped a
spike into the far right corner to win the game.

The crowd gave me a nice round of applause as I walked up and shook Brian's
hand. "Excellent game Brian. I got lucky a couple of times, or you would
have waxed me." I said.

"No, you played a tough game Tim. Guess your not all the way over the hill
just yet." He quipped. I put my arm around his shoulder and we walked back
to the parking area.

"Can I give you a lift home?" I asked.

"No thanks. I have my quad right over here." he replied as he pointed down
the parking row. "Thanks for the game Tim. It was lots of fun. We should do
it more often." he stated as he turned and walked towards his quad. I told
him we could play again any time. But my arms and legs were telling me a
different story. At thirty four, my athletic days were fading fast. Not to
mention the fact that my head was now throbbing again. I climbed on the quad
and headed for home.

When I reached the house I took some of my medicine and grabbed a nice long
shower. Once I was dried off, I stretched out on the bed to rest. James came
in the room and asked if I was tired. I explained that I had just taken on
Brian in a pride match of volleyball. "Why did you do something stupid like
that Tim. You are injured my love." he said with concern.

"I won the game." I added.

"It sure looks that way." James said in a chastening manner. "Did you take
some medicine?" he asked.

"Yeah. I am gonna take a little nap and I will be fine by dinner time. Wake
me at 6:00pm okay?" I asked.

"Okay Tim. Have a nice nap." he replied before bending over the bed to kiss
me. James left me to rest and I drifted off to sleep. I was awakened from my
nap by my beautiful lover caressing my chest. "Did you sleep well, my love?"
James asked.

"Yes I did, angel. My headache is gone." I replied. I crawled out of bed and
went to wash up before going downstairs. Our dinner guests arrived right on
time and I told their intake buddies to return for them in two hours. James
escorted our guests to the tables on the deck and I instructed Timmy to sit
on my right.

"I'm really sorry I hit you Tim." he said meekly.

"I told you not to give it another thought Timmy. As you can see, I am fine
now. How do you like the island?" I asked.

"It is really cool. We went bowling and to the beach. And there are a lot of
very cute boys here." he chirped.

"There certainly are, Timmy. Are the rest of you enjoying the island?" I
asked.

"Yes." They replied in unison.

"There is just one small problem." Cory added.

"What's that?" I asked curiously.

"I really like my Intake Buddy and when I ride behind him on his quad, I
start getting excited. But this stupid thing they make us wear keeps me from
getting hard." He complained.

"Been there. Done that." James chimed in.

"That is what it suppose to do Cory. Plenty of time for erections after you
finish orientation week." I replied. Stefan and David served the meal and
then joined us. We were seated at three tables that had been placed close to
each other, and each table had its own conversations going on during the
meal. After the meal was over, Cory and his buddies asked if they could try
out the hot tub. I told them I wanted to talk with them a bit first.

I had the boys pull their chairs around where I could talk to them face to
face. "I am really glad to have all of you boys here with us on the island.
I want to make sure you understand that what happened to you at your foster
home was not your fault. You were not bad boys that deserved to be whipped
like that. I want each of you to stop by the infirmary tomorrow and set up
an appointment to meet with one of our counselors. I will let the infirmary
know you will be stopping by. Can you guys do that for me please?" I asked.

"Yes." they replied in unison.

"Great! You can go sit in the hot tub now if you still want to." I stated.
As they ran over to the hot tub, I tool notice that the wounds on their
backs were almost healed. But I knew that the wounds inside would require
much more time before they healed. Our guests sat in the hot tub until their
rides arrived to take them home. After our guests had returned to their
dorms, I told James I had some more work to do and retreated to my office.

I checked my inbox and found another email from Vasile. The email detailed
how all private orphanages in Romania would be closed down within fourteen
days. That was it, I had no choice but to move ahead with plans to get the
boys here to Jason's Haven. I started to call the head of Child Protection
but I remembered the seven hour time difference and thought better of it. He
would already be asleep.

I called Allen and told him to make arrangements for a flight to Bucharest,
Romania next Friday morning. I also replied to Vasile and instructed him to
make the necessary arrangements with customs officials there. I explained
that we would need him to come along with the boys. He was always talking
about coming here any way so I knew it would not be a problem for him.

That was all I could do until morning. I would call the head of Child
Protection first thing in the morning to get his approval to move the boys.
James and I made an early night of it. I decided I would fill James in on
the trip when we woke up. James got into bed and I spooned myself behind
him. He rolled his head sideways and I leaned over to kiss him goodnight
before we drifted off to sleep.

I woke up in the morning with Romanians on my mind. I hurried through my
morning rituals and rushed into my office as soon as breakfast was done. I
dialed the number for the head of Child Protection in Romania. "Alo. Nicolae
Suciu." Nicolae answered.

"Hello Nicolae, it's Tim Stevens." I stated.

"Ah Tim, I was expecting to hear from you. I am afraid there is nothing I
can do to save your orphanage. A new executive order is in place and I must
follow it." he replied.

"I understand your position Nicolae. But I though you might agree to have my
boys moved to another facility outside of Romania." I stated.

"With all of the new European Union regulations, such a move would be very
difficult to accomplish, Tim." he explained.

"So your telling me that you don't have the influence to get it done?" I
asked trying to bait him.

"You know me better than that Tim. But such an action would be very risky
for me and would involve a great deal of expense." he hinted.

"I hear you Nicolae. The reason I called was to let you know that ESEI is
looking to make a one time cash donation to a foreign organization that
helps children. I immediately thought of you. We thought one hundred
thousand U.S. dollars may be able to help quite a bit. Would you be
interested in our donation?" I asked innocently.

"I am quite sure I will find a suitable use for your generosity. I am
looking for the records for the children you have at the orphanage. They
seem to have been misplaced. It's almost like the boys do not even exist
anymore." he stated calmly.

"It's always a pleasure talking to you Nicolae. Thanks for taking time out
of your busy day to speak with me. La Revedere." I said.

"La Revedere Tim." he said before hanging up. With the boys now off
Government radar, the rest would be a cake walk. Making arrangements with
customs would be far less expensive. I checked my emails and found a
response from Vasile. He indicated that he would be more than happy to leave
Romania with the boys. He said he would make all the arrangements with
customs and have the boys ready to leave when I arrived. I replied back to
him giving him the exact date of my trip. I told him I would give him the
flight schedule as soon as I got it.

I called James back to office to fill him in on the situation. "James, we
have to make a trip to Romania next Friday to bring back a plane full of
boys." I informed him.

"I am going to Romania?" he asked in surprise.

"Unless you don't want to, angel." I replied.

"Are you kidding me? Of course I want to go!" he exclaimed.

"Don't get to excited, love. It's a third world country filled with heart
wrenching poverty. It's not like we are going to London or Paris." I
chuckled.

"I can't wait to talk with the boys about what it is like to live in
Romania." he said.

"Well, you have a couple of problems there. First, you 'will' have to wait
to speak to them. Unless you have been secretly boning up on your Romanian.
Secondly, what they would tell you would be far worst than the stuff you
heard in any of the interviews so far. It's not a very pleasant place to
live unless you have a lot of money." I explained.

"Well, I do have a lot of money." he added.

"Yes my love, but they do not." I pointed out.

"We will fix that soon enough. So how will we be able to tell the boys what
they need to know." he asked.

"We are bringing back the orphanage director to serve as their English
teacher. Either he can tell them what they need to know, or I can." I
stated.

"You speak Romanian?" James asked in surprise.

"Da!" I exclaimed.

"What does 'Da' mean?" he quipped.

"It means 'Yes'". I said with a smile.

"Well, you are just full of surprises today." he remarked.

"Your not the only smart guy around here you know." I said as I put my hand
on his shoulder.

"How do you say 'I love you' in Romanian?" he asked

"Te iubesc." I replied.

"Te iubesc Tim." he said coyly as he leaned in and kissed me.

"Te iubesc Inger Mea!" I replied, which means 'I love you my angel'. We
walked out of the office and headed for the back deck. It was time for a
relaxing swim. After doing a couple of laps in the pool, we spent some time
together relaxing in the hot tub. We had six days to play and relax before
starting our journey across the Atlantic.
