From the previous chapter.

Then I looked down at the boy for the first time, and there was an angel
lying there, he was perfect. He was about 4 foot 8 inches tall, blonde
curly hair, and about 85 pounds.

I could hear the sirens getting closer as I knelt down beside the boy to
check his pulse, it was weak and he was having trouble breathing.

As the police and ambulance got there, he opened his eyes and looked at
me and said in a very weak voice, "Thanks Mister." I smiled and said,
"No problem little buddy, no one will hurt you anymore, I promise."

He closed his eyes as the paramedics got him onto the stretcher and
headed to the ambulance, I quickly told my story to the police and told
them if they had any more questions I would be at the hospital checking
on the boy.

By the time I reached my car tears were streaming down my face, "Please
let him be alright," I said to myself as I raced off to the hospital.

Chapter 2

I arrived at the hospital about five minutes behind the ambulance; I
parked my car and went inside. As I walked up to the nurse's station, I
was relieved to see that the head nurse on duty was Sheila Watson, a good
friend of mine. "Hey Sheila, what pediatrician is on duty this
evening?" I asked slightly out of breath. Sheila looked up and smiled as
she said, "Hey Matt, your lucky this evening, your buddy Dr. Matthews is
on duty tonight." "Will you please ask Shane to come out to talk to me,
when he is finished examining the street kid, the ambulance just brought
in?" I asked. "Do you know anything about the kid Matt?" Sheila asked
me. "No not much, all I really know is that three gang members was
working him over pretty bad until I got there and evened up the odds." I
replied. "I'll send him over to talk to you when he is finished with
the boy." She said as I went to sit down.

About that time officer Simmons one of the policeman that responded to
the call, came in, walked over to me and asked, "How is he? Have you
heard anything?" I looked up and said, "I don't know anything yet,
Sheila said Dr. Matthews will come out to talk to us when he is finished
examining him." Officer Simmons said, "I'll be right back, I'm going
to get some coffee, would you like some?" "No Thanks." I answered. But
before he could go anywhere Dr. Matthews came out to talk to us. He
looked at us and said, "Well guys, I

have some bad news, the boy has some internal bleeding and needs surgery,
and he needs it now!"

Dr. Matthews said, "I called Tim Blackman with CPS and he is on his way
here now." Matt are you still a Licensed Foster Parent for Emergency
placements?" He asked.

I said without thinking or hesitation, "Yes I am, and I would be glad to
take him." Just then Tim Blackman the Director of Child Protection
Services came in, and we quickly filled him in on the problem and the
urgency of the situation.

"Matt, if you are willing to take the boy it won't be a problem at all,
I can have the paperwork ready in about five minutes for your signature.

"Yes, get the paper work ready." I responded.

I looked at Dr. Matthews and said, "Shane, may I see the boy for a
minute?" Shane Said, "Yes Matt you can, Only for a minute though, and
then we need to get him into surgery." As we walked into the boy's
room, he opened his eyes and looked at me.

I smiled at him and said, "Hey little buddy, Dr. Matthews is going to
fix you up better than ever." I continued by saying, "I need to ask you
a couple of questions before you go into surgery though." I asked, "Can
you please tell me your name?" He looked at me with a weak smile on his
angelic face and said, "my name is Shawn Thomas Clark." "I just got
one more question little buddy, after you get out of the hospital would
you like to come and live with me?" I asked. A tear ran down his cheak
as he smiled and said, "Oh yes sir, I would like that very much."
"Okay then, but you got to call me Matt, sir was for my dad, okay?"
"Now Dr. Matthews will fix you up as good as new, and I'll be here when
you come out of surgery." I said to him as I bent down and kissed him on
his forehead.

As I turned to go out of Shawn's room there was tears in my eyes.

I filled out all the paperwork for CPS and the hospital that was needed
to give permission to operate, to have him admitted into the hospital,
and to make him my foster son.

Now the hard part begins, waiting!

While we waited Officer Simmons, Tim, and I went to get some much-needed
coffee in the cafeteria, and to try not to worry.

While we were sitting there talking I remembered to ask officer Simmons,
"Oh yeah, how are the scum bags that put a kid less than half their size
in the hospital?"

Officer Simmons chuckled a little before answering me, "I don't think
they will be doing much at all for a long time." He continued by saying,
"After they got out of the emergency room from various injuries from
several broken ribs, concussions, and a broke nose." He continued by
saying, "They are now looking at some cereous jail time, because they
are charged with everything from child abuse, Assault with a deadly
weapon, and two counts of attempted murder." I looked at him and said,
"They are real lucky that I was more concerned about the boy and getting
him help, or it would have been worse."

Tim and Officer Simmons both agreed that Shawn was lucky I came along
when I did.

Officer Simmons told me that when Shawn was up to it he needed to get a
statement from him about what happened.

As we sat there and talked awhile longer, I looked at the clock and said,
"Well I'm going back to the waiting room to see if there is any word on
Shawn yet." So we all three got up and made our way back to the waiting
room to resume the waiting ritual.

As soon as I entered the waiting room and got sat down, a very tired
looking Dr. Matthews walked in and came over to us.

I started to ask how Shawn was and he put up his hand to stop me.

"Shawn will be fine, he lost allot of blood, but we was able to stop the
bleeding, and repair the damage." He Said.

I sighed with relief before asking, "Shane, when can I see Shawn?" He
answered me saying, "He should be in the recovery room by now, come on
and I'll take you to see him."

I walked into the recovery room, and I saw a very frail little boy lying
there, he was hooked up to several machines and monitors. I walked over
and pulled up a chair next to the bed, and I took his hand into mine and
said quietly to him, "Shawn? Little buddy, I don't know if you can hear
me or not, but I'm here just like I promised." I continued talking to
him and said, "It is all over, you are all fixed up now, please wake up
so we can take you to your room." As I sat there quietly talking to him
a tear ran down my cheek, and I saw his eyes slowly begin to open. The
nurse came in about that time as his eyes opened and he smiled at me.

I smiled back at him and said, "Hi Buddy, your surgery is all over, you
are going to be good as new." He said in a weak voice, "I thought you
was just a dream, but you're really here." I gave him a big smile and
said, "I'm really here, and you are going to be much better real
soon."

The nurse asked him a few questions, and when she was satisfied he could
answer them, she then moved him to his room. Dr. Matthews came into his
room right after they got him settled into his bed and checked him over.
He was hurting really bad so he ordered him something for pain and then
looked at me and said, "Now Matt you need to go home and get some sleep
your self, he will sleep through the night." I answered him and said,
"Okay Shane, I am kind of tired, If anything changes please call me." I
left the hospital and headed home for some much needed sleep."

Once home, I fed my English Mastiff Tank his dinner, and after he ate he
followed me out to feed the horses, once that was done I took my shower
and went to bed.

I was totally wiped out by the time I got home, got my shower, and got
into bed, that I don't remember anything until I was awaken by the
persistent buzzing of the alarm clock at 5:30 A.M. the next morning. I
jumped out of bed, got a quick shower, brushed my teeth, and called to
talk to Shane to find out how Shawn was before he left the hospital. I
got lucky when I got through to the nurse's station Shane was just
coming out of Shawn's room and the nurse told him I would like to talk
to him. "Good morning Matt." He said with a very cheerful voice for
this time of the day. "Good morning Shane." I replied.

"How is Shawn this morning?" I asked. "I just checked on him and he is
doing really well considering someone used him as a punching bag last
night. He was hurting a little, so I gave him something for pain." He
said. "I am on my way to the hospital now, to stay with him, thanks
Shane for everything you did for him last night." I said. He answered me
by saying "No problem my friend, anytime." I hung up the phone, locked
up the house, and started for the hospital.

I arrived at the hospital about 6:45 A.M., and I headed for the elevators
that would take me up to Shawn's room. After I got off the elevator I
stopped at the nurse's station to ask how Shawn was doing. Mary Chambers
the duty nurse in charge looked at me and said, "We wish all of our
patients was as easy to take care of as Shawn, he is so polite, he don't
complain, and he is simply adorable." She continued by saying, "He has
all the nurses wrapped around his little finger." I chuckled as I walked
toward Shawn's room.

I knocked softly on the door and heard a chipper, "Come in!" from
Shawn.

I opened the door and walked in saying, Good morning Sunshine, how are
you feeling this morning?" When he saw who it was his entire face lit up
with the biggest smile I have ever seen. I walked over to his bedside,
bent down and kissed him on his forehead, and gave him a gentle hug.
"Good morning Matt, I'm feeling better today." He said. I wasn't
there very long at all before they were knocking on his door with his
breakfast.

I told him while he ate I was going to get me some coffee, and I'd be
right back.

I walked down to the nurse's station and ask Mary where was the nearest
place to get a decent cup of coffee in the hospital. She said, "Well
the cafeteria usually has real good coffee." So I headed to the
cafeteria for my morning caffeine fix. I paid for my coffee and chose to
grab a table, so I could just sit and think about all the events that
have happened in the last 24 hours.

While I was lost in my thoughts, Tim Blackman and Officer Simmons also
grabbed a cup of coffee for their selves and joined me at my table.

We exchanged the normal morning greetings before Officer Simmons said,
"Matt, we really need to talk to Shawn and get his statement about what
happened to him last night." Tim asked me, "Matt do you think he is up
to it today?"

I didn't say anything for a couple of minutes, and then I said, "If it
is done right, I believe he can handle it."

Tim Blackman and Officer Simmons both agreed that I could be in charge of
the interview, and could stop it at anytime.

So we left the cafeteria together and headed back to Shawn's room.

When we got to Shawn's room I asked Tim and Officer Simmons to wait out
side in the hall for a couple of minutes so I could explain to Shawn what
was going to happen.

I entered Shawn's room and saw a Doctor sitting there talking to him,
waiting on me to get back from the cafeteria so he could examine him.

The man stood up and said, "Hello, my name is Dr. David Brown, my
colleague Dr. Matthews filled me in on the situation on the young man
here. so I thought he might be a little more comfortable if you was here
when I examined him, so we were just chatting until you got back." I
interduced myself, and then he began examining Shawn. Once he finished
his examination he asked Shawn did he have any questions for him. Shawn
got a big smile on his face and asked, "When can I get up for a little
while?" "When can I go home with Matt?" Dr. Brown chuckled and said,
"Maybe you can go home tomorrow, but it depends on how you do through
the night." "Now as far as you getting up for a little while, you can
do that when ever you want too, just make sure someone is in here with
you. You lost allot of blood, and you are still too weak to try standing
up on your own." Shawn was extremely excited to hear he could get out of
bed and sit up in a chair for a little while.

When Dr. Brown left the room, I sat down beside Shawn's bed and said to
him, "Shawn, I need you to help me do something." He looked at me with
a puzzled look on his face and said, "What do you need me to do?" I
answered him and said, "I know it will be hard to talk about, but I need
you to tell Mr. Blackman and Officer Simmons what happen last night, and
how you ended up living on the streets." I continued by saying "Do you
think you can do that for me?" He looked at me as a tear ran down his
cheek and said, "Will you stay in here with me?" "Oh Shawn, I'll be
right here, I'm not going anywhere." I replied. "Ok, I'll do it
then." He bravely said.

I walked over and open the door, and told Tim and Officer Simmons to come
in. "Okay guys, Shawn has agreed to tell you what happened and to let
you ask your questions, only if I can stay in here with him." I said.
Both men told Shawn that would be just fine if I stayed with him while he
told his story.

Over the next hour and a half we heard a young man tell a very
heart-breaking story. We heard everything from how two curious 11 year
old boys were caught exploring each other's bodies. We heard how
Shawn's friend was screamed at and sent home, and then how Shawn was
beaten and kicked out of the house, and was told never to come back or
they would kill him.

We heard how a very courageous young man survived on the streets for
almost a year having to steel and sell his body just to have something to
eat.

He proceeded to tell us about the three-gang members catching him
sleeping in the alley and how they beat him and how they were planning to
rape him. Then he turned to me and said, "That is when you came along
and saved me." At that he began to cry.

I put my arms around him and said, "The meeting is over guys, Shawn
needs to rest now." Tim Blackman and Officer Simmons left while I sat
there holding and comforting Shawn. After a little while I realized that
Shawn had cried his self to sleep in my arms. I gently laid him back on
his bed, covered him up, and kissed him on his forehead.

Shawn was still asleep when they brought his lunch. I got it all set up
for him, then I gently woke him up saying, " hey Sleepy Head, time to
eat your lunch.

Right after he finished his lunch nurse Mary came in to take his vitals,
before she walked out of the room she said, "I'll be back in a few
minutes to give you a sponge bath sweetie." He turned about ten shades
of red from his head to his toes. He was so embarrasst, and he looked at
me with terror in his eyes and said, "Please Matt, don't let Nurse Mary
give me a sponge bath, I like her but she is a girl!" He was almost in
tears when I said, "Calm down little guy, I can help you get your sponge
bath if you want me to instead." He let out a big sigh of relief and
said, "Yes please, but will you tell nurse Mary for me?" "I sure will
Shawn, I'll be right back." I answered.

I went out to the nurse's station and explained things to Mary, she
understood, and she gave me all I needed to give Shawn his bath.

I went back into Shawn's room, filled up the bowl with warm water, and
sat it down on his bedside table. "Okay little buddy, let's get you all
cleaned up." I said to him as I reached to help him take off his
hospital gown.

Once his hospital gown was off, I soaped up the washcloth and started
with his face. I worked my way down his body. I washed his neck and
started on his shoulders, arms, and his small hands. I got his underarms
and his sides next. Then I spent lots of time on his chest and his belly.
I skipped his midsection where I saw a very hard hairless four-inch
errection and two marble size balls in a very tight hairless sack. I
started on his legs, and after his legs I scrubbed his feet.

I told him to turn over and I would get the backside.

I started again with his neck and shoulders before working on his back.

I skipped his very cute bubble butt and went again to his legs.

I soaped up the washcloth again and handed it to him and said, "You may
want to get your own private parts. He took the washcloth and quickly
washed his privates and handed it back to me.

I got him a clean gown and helped him get it on, and then he gave me a
big hug and said, "Thanks Matt, I feel much better now." "No problem
Shawn, I enjoyed helping you." I told him. I got him into a chair and
then I went to ask them to come and change his bedding. Once we got him
back into bed, we spent the rest of the day talking and watching TV.

During our conversation I found out his birthday was in June, and he
would be turning 12 on June 3rd. I decided right then and there I would
make it the best birthday any 12 year old could ever have, and I had a
week to plan it. He told me his favorite colors were orange and blue, his
favorite food is fried chicken, his favorite animals are: horses,
dolphins, and dogs, his favorite sports teams are: The Pittsburgh
Pirates, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, and his
hobbies are: fishing, reading, and swimming.

While we were talking Nurse Julie came in to take his vitals and started
talking to him by asking, "I heard you may get to go home tomorrow
Shawn, are you excited?" She continued by saying, "I have two boys at
home about your size, and I know they wouldn't like being cooped up in
the hospital."

"Yes Mam, I'm excited, I get to go home with Matt, he is my new Dad."
He said excitedly. When I heard him say that, a tear ran down my cheek.

I don't know what it is about this boy, but I am falling in love with
him fast.

Before she left his room she asked him, Do you need anything Shawn?" He
answered her by saying, "I'm hurting, can I please have something to
stop the pain?"

She said to him, "I'll be right back Sweetie, with something for the
pain."

Nurse Julie and Shawn's dinner got there about the same time, and by the
time he finished his dinner he was nodding off into la la land.

I bent down and kissed him on his cheek and told him good night and that
I would see him bright and early in the morning.

I followed Nurse Julie out of his room and asked her, if she could tell
me what size clothes she thought Shawn could wear. She told me and I left
the hospital headed for the mall.

I arrived at the mall and went into Sears first, and I looked around
until I spotted a sales-lady. Her name was Lizz Cooper, and I quickly
told her what I wanted and she directed me right to everything I needed.
I got him three t-shirts with his favorite sports teams on them, new
underwear and socks, and three pairs of really nice shorts.

Then I asked her to direct me to the shoe department, and I got him a
pair of really nice Nike running shoes. I paid for my items and headed
off to one of the sports stores in the mall.

Once inside the store I preceded to get him three hats that matched his
T-shirts, a Pittsburgh Penguins key chain, and a Pittsburgh Penguins
wallet.

On my way to pay for everything I found the sunglasses, and I had to get
him a pair for each of his favorite teams.

I once again paid for all of my items and then I headed to the car.

As I was headed toward the exit and the car, I came upon The Dollar Tree;
I went in and finished up my shopping by getting Shawn a toothbrush,
toothpaste, and a brush for his hair.

I drove home, fed the animals, took my shower, and went to bed in
anticipation of bringing Shawn home in the morning.

I jumped out of bed as soon as my alarm clock started sounding off. I
shaved, took a quick shower, brushed my teeth. Then I was all ready to
go, so I locked up the house and headed for the hospital. When I arrived
at the hospital I grabbed the bag of clothes I bought Shawn and headed
for the elevator. As I was getting off the elevator I met Dr. Brown, we
exchanged good morning greetings and entered Shawn's room together.

"Good morning Sunshine." I said to him as I bent down and kissed him on
his forehead.

"Good morning Matt." He said with a big smile on his angelic face.

Then Dr. Brown spoke to Shawn, "How are you feeling this morning
Shawn?"

"I'm hurting a little bit, but it ain't as bad today as it was
yesterday." Shawn replied.

"Well, I think you can go home today, if you can promise me you'll take
it easy for the next week to ten days." Dr. Brown said with a smile.

"REALLY? I Can?" "Oh I promise Dr. Brown, I'll be good and take it
easy." He said, smiling from ear to ear. "It will take a little while
to get the paperwork done, so go get you a shower and by then, you should
be all ready to go." Dr. Brown said to him.

I helped Shawn out of bed and he headed to the bathroom to get his
shower.

Dr. Brown gave me all the instructions about the prescriptions he was
giving Shawn, and made sure to tell me again that Shawn needed to take it
easy for the next week to ten days, and then he left to get Shawn
dismissed to go home.

In about 15 minutes, I hear a small voice calling me from the bathroom.

I walked to the door and asked, "What do you need little buddy?" He
answered me saying, "Can you please come in here for a minute?" I
slowly opened the door and stepped into the bathroom with an adorable
nude boy and asked, "What do you need Shawn?" Then I saw him and he was
almost crying.

I walked over to him, knelt down in front of him and asked, "Oh Buddy,
What's wrong?" "I'm scared Matt." He said in a whisper.

I gently asked him, "What are you scared of Shawn?" I continued and
asked, "Are you scared of me?" At this he began to cry and he said,
"Oh no Matt, it ain't you, its me, I'm afraid I'll mess up and you
won't want me any more." I reached out and wrapped my arms around him.
I held him tight, while saying, "Oh Shawn, sweetie, please don't worry
about things like that, I could never send a special little guy like you
away." "I have grown to love you Shawn, and I can't wait to get you
home so I can spoil you rotten." I said to him.

He hugged me tighter and said, Oh Thank you Matt, I love you too." After
he released me I quickly went and got his toothbrush, toothpaste, and
hairbrush and gave them to him.

I told him to finish up in the bathroom and come out to get his clothes
on, he started to tear up again and said, "My clothes are bloody and
torn really bad Matt."

I looked at him and said, "Don't worry, I'll take care of them for
you."

He came out of the bathroom totally naked leaving his towel behind.

I was totally Mesmerized by his beauty, and I had to take a deep breath
before I could say, "Oh my, Shawn, You are beautiful."

He smiled that award-winning smile and asked, "Really? You think I'm
beautiful?"

I smiled as I said, "Oh yes, you are the most perfect example of a boy
I've ever seen."

Then I tossed him a pair of underwear and socks and said to him, " You
better get them on before Nurse Mary comes in and sees Little Shawn
hanging out." He chuckled as he put on his underwear and socks I tossed
to him. I proceeded to show him all three pairs of shorts I bought him,
and he chose the tan ones. Then I brought out the three t-shirts and he
had a fit over all of them but chose to wear the Pittsburgh Penguins
today, and with that decision made I tossed him his matching Penguins
hat, Penguins key chain that had one key on it, his Penguin's
sunglasses, and his

Penguin's wallet that already has a 20-dollar bill in it. Next I handed
him the box that had the new Nikes in it, and as he looked at them he
started to cry.

Before I knew what happened, I had an almost 12-year-old, crying,
grateful little boy in my arms.

"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you Matt, I love you so much." He kept
saying.

I made my way over to a chair, and sat down with Shawn in my lap.

As I sat there with my arms around Shawn, he began to look at his key
chain and wallet more carefully before asking, "Matt? What does this key
go to?" I answered by saying, "It is your key to our house buddy."
"Really? No fooling?" He asked. "No fooling." I told him. Then he
found the money in the wallet and said, "Oh Matt, this wallet can't be
mine it already has money in it." I said, "It is your wallet Shawn, all
guys need a little spending money to carry around with them."

Then he did something that broke my heart.

He turned in my lap so he could kiss me on the cheek, as he said, "I
love you Matt, you're the bestest dad in the world."

I sat there holding him for about 20 more minutes before we heard a knock
at the door, and Shawn said, Come in!" Nurse Mary came in and saw Shawn
in his new clothes sitting in my lap and she said; "Now that is a
perfect picture, a dad and his hansom son. Shawn you look great, and we
are going to miss you around here sweetie." He got up and gave her a hug
and said, Thank you for taking good care of me, I'm going to miss you
to."

Just then an orderly came with a wheelchair and said as he bowed, "Your
Limousine awaits Master Shawn, I didn't know we had a king in the
hospital." He continued by saying, All the nurses told me I better treat
you like a king, they said you are a special young man." Mary said,
"Yes he is, Shawn you are special to us all, please come back and visit
us, when you can." He told her he would, and as he sat down in the
wheelchair, Mary bent down, kissed him on his cheek, and gave him a
little hug.

Then we were headed out of the room, as we past the nurse's station
Shawn waved to all the nurses as we headed for the elevator, and when the
door of the elevator shut he said, "I can't believe it, I finally got a
dad and a home again." I looked over at the orderly and tears were
running down his cheeks just like the ones on my own cheeks.

When we got to the front door, I left them long enough to pull the car
around to pick up my little boy. As I drove up to them, Shawn's mouth
dropped open in surprise when he saw the car I was driving.

It is a fully restored orange and white 1978 King Cobra Mustang
Convertible, with tan interior, leather seats, a big King Cobra painted
on the hood, and a stereo system that is totally kick ass. I got out of
the driver's side chuckling, and headed around to help Shawn into the
car. "Okay Shawn, What will it be? Top up or down?" I asked him.

"Oh boy, can we please ride with it down?!" was his reply. "Okay, down
it will be." I said to him as I helped him into the car, and got him
buckled up.

I closed his door and went around to get in myself.

I pulled into a parking spot for a moment, so I could let the top down on
the Mustang.

While I was letting the top down, I looked at Shawn and asked, "Where
would you like to go for breakfast Little Buddy?" "Can we go to
Shoney's?" He asked.

"Sure we can, no problem." I answered him.

When the top was down, I put the car into gear and we headed for Shoneys

We pulled into Shoneys parking lot, raised the top, and got out. I locked
up the car and we went inside to get us some breakfast. Our host's
asked, Will it be smoking or non smoking for you gentlemen today?" Shawn
answered saying, Non smoking please." She led us back to a table and
asked, "What will you guys have to drink today?" I said, Coffee and
juice for me please." Shawn spoke up saying, I'll have milk and orange
juice please."

She was back shortly with our drinks and asked, "Now, What will you have
to eat today?" We both agreed on the breakfast bar and she smiled and
said, "Help your selves, my name is April, and if you need anything just
let me know."

We thanked her as we headed to the food bar for the first round.

I got gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage, and French toast, and Shawn got
gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage, and scrambled eggs.

I went back one more time and got a plate of fruit, Shawn went back twice
more for food and then fruit. It was good to see him eat like that, he
looked up at me and said, "Thanks Matt, I ate more today than I've ate
in years." I told him, "Food is something you'll never have to worry
about again, I promise." We got up, left a tip on the table for our
waitress, paid for our meals, and left the restaurant.

I looked at Shawn and asked, "Now, Are you ready to go home? He said,
"Yes, I'm ready." I pulled out of the parking lot and headed for home.

We drove out of the city and I looked over at Shawn and he was curiously
taking in everything. I slowed down and stopped at the gate that allowed
us access to our property.

I told Shawn to enter in the code, and instantly the gate swung open wide
to allow us access on to the property.

I pulled the mustang through the gate and it automatically swung shut.

Shawn with a wide-eyed expression on his face asked, "Does all of this
belong to you?" I answered him and said, "Nope, all of this belongs to
both of us."

I put the car into park, took him into my arms, and held him for a few
minutes before saying, "Shawn, I meant what I said at the hospital, you
are a very special part of my life now, and I have grown to love you." I
continued saying, "I want to share my life with you. I want to give you
things you want because I can, not because I expect something in return.
I want to make sure you have clothes and all the food you can eat, I
guess what I'm trying to say is I love you and you deserve to be
happy."

He held me so tight and finally he said through lots of tears, "Oh Matt,
I love you so much, I wish you could be my real daddy instead of just my
foster dad."

Little did I know that simple statement would have a huge impact on the
rest of my life?

Finally he stopped crying, I sat him back into his seat, and went on up
the driveway.

When we went around the last curve in the driveway he finally saw the
house he would be living in for a long time I silently prayed.

"WOW!" He shouted. "You live here all by your self?" He asked.

"Nope, I have an adorable Munchkin that lives with me and a really good
friend that you will meat very soon." "Now, I need to tell you
something before we go into the house, and I need you to really pay
attention to what I'm saying, "Okay?"

He said, Ok." I began by saying, "You are very safe now, and there is
nothing here that will ever hurt you. When we open the front door my
friend will be standing there, don't let him scare you. He will not hurt
you, I promise." Shawn got a real puzzled look on his face but quickly
agreed. We got out of the car; walked to the front porch and I told Shawn
to unlock the door. Shawn stuck his key into the lock hesitantly

, turned it, and opened the door.

Just as I knew he would be, Tank was there to greet us, and he greeted
Shawn with a big wet kiss to the face. The look on Shawn's face was
totally priceless.

I lost it when Shawn jumped into my arms. I was laughing so hard I almost
dropped him.

I sat him down on his feet and said, Shawn meet Tank, he's my friend I
told you about in the car." Then I said to Tank, Tank shake Shawn's
hand and make him feel welcome." Tank raised his paw to shake Shawn's
hand; Shawn took it and shook hands with a dog that was bigger than him.
"Now, come on and I'll give you the grand tour of the house." I said.

Now for the next 45 minutes or so, Tank and I showed Shawn the entire
house from top to bottom. We showed him the four empty bedrooms with
their queen size beds, and their own bathrooms, and he chose the bedroom
right across the hall from mine to make his own. Then I showed him the
master bedroom and the master bath, with its sunken tub and he was
amazed. Then we went downstairs and I showed him the media room, my
office, the library, the family-living room, the dining room, the large
kitchen,. And then I took him downstairs to the full sized basement to
show him the arcade.

"WOW!" He exclaimed "Okay Shawn, I have two more surprises for you,
come on and I'll show you." I said to one excited young man.

I led him back upstairs to show him one room I purposely left out
earlier,, I asked him, "Shawn will you please close your eyes and keep
them close until I tell you to open them?" "Ok" He said with a little
apprehension in his voice.

He closed his eyes and I led him into the poolroom, and as soon as we
went through the door I turned on the lights and waterfall for the pool.

"Okay Shawn, open your eyes." I said to him. He opened his eyes and he
said, "Oh WOW! Oh Man, a swimming pool and a hot-tub." He shouted.

I chuckled at his excitement and said, "Now come on, I have one more
surprise to show you." We went into the garage through the kitchen door,
and I took him over to a gas powered golf-cart and Said, "Get in." Once
all three of us was in, yes Tank went along with us. We hit the button
that opened the garage door and we were off on another adventure. After
riding for a few minutes, we pulled up to the barn and stopped.

"Tank, stay." I said. I took Shawn by the hand and led him into the
barn, and first walked him to my Pinto stud's stall. I said, "His name
is Rabble." Rebble came over to get a scratch behind his ears. We petted
him for a little while, and then I showed him Lady and Ginger and he fell
in love with all three of them.

I fed them while Shawn watched for the next time, and then we got back in
the golf-cart and headed back to the house.

I put the mustang into the garage, grabbed his things out of the back
seat, and went into the house.

I handed Shawn his stuff and said to him, "Go put these things in your
room, while I call to have pizza delivered. What kind to you like?" I
asked before he left the room.

"I like all kinds." He said as he walked out of the room.

I placed the pizza order, and went looking for Shawn.

I found him sitting on his bed crying, I walked over to him, took him
into my arms, and asked, "Oh Shawn, What's wrong buddy?" He finally
got out, "I'm just so happy, I wish you were my dad and I could stay
here forever." He continued saying, "I have never had a dad that loved
me, never had three meals a day, nice clothes to wear, nor someone to
hold me like you do. They just beat on me for anything and everything,
and let their drug buddies do things to me for free drugs." By this time
he was crying uncontrollably. I just sat there holding him and calmly
talking to him, telling him that no one will ever hurt him again." Right
then and there I knew that no matter what I had to make it happen, I had
to make Shawn my legal son, and his family would pay for what they done
to him.

I sent him into his bathroom to wash his face and then we went downstairs
together to wait on the pizzas.

We didn't have to wait long before the gate buzzer went off, I hit a
button by the front door and said, "May I help you??" Then we heard
"Yeah," I have some pizzas for you?" I buzzed him through and walked
out onto the porch to pay the delivery boy.

I paid him, got our pizzas, and we went in to eat. I got us a couple of
sodas and we pigged out on pizza until we couldn't eat no more.

After lunch I sent Shawn into the media room to pick out a movie for us
to watch.

He chose a great karate movie called Best of The Best, and I sat down in
my recliner to watch the movie, but before I knew it, he climbed up into
my lap so I could hold him while we watched the movie together.

As we watched the movie I asked him, "Do you like karate Shawn?" He
answered me saying, "Yes, I do, I have always wanted to take karate to
be able to defend myself."

When the movie was over I said, "Shawn run to my office and get some
paper and an ink pen and bring them to me please." He was back in a
minute and handed me the paper and pen, and I said, "I don't need them,
you do." I explained by saying, "Make me a list of things you need to
decorate your room so we can get them tomorrow while we are getting lots
more clothes.

I sat there watching him and he wasn't writing anything down, so I asked
him, "Shawn hand me a sheet of that paper." I began to write things
down for him like a TV, a VCR and DVD combo, posters, a game system, lots
of games, a desk, and a computer,.

I handed him my list and asked, "Do you see anything I forgot?" Once
again I ended up with a lap full of boy, I could really get use to this.

We snuggled for a while and I said, "I'm hungry again, lets finish the
pizza for our dinner.

After we ate Shawn said, "Matt, I'm hurting can I have one of my pain
pills?" I got him one and he took it with some water, then I told him to
go get his shower and get ready for bed because we had a long day ahead
of us tomorrow.

"The towels are in your bathroom closet, and I'll be up in a few
minutes to tuck you into bed." I said to him.

Tank followed Shawn up the stairs and I locked up the house.

I heard the shower cut off and I gave him a couple of minutes to get into
bed and then I went in to tuck him into bed.

I sat down on the side of his bed and said, "I am so glad you decided to
come to live with tank and I, our lives were empty and you made them full
again." I finished by saying, "I love you Shawn, if you need anything
throughout the night, you come get me." Then I bent over and kissed him
on the cheek and gave him a hug.

I went into my room, took my shower, and got into bed.

Sometime during the night Shawn came and got into bed with me, because
when I woke up to go pee, he was snuggled up to me.

I went and took care of business and went back to bed, I laid down, put
my arms around Shawn, and said a small prayer.

"Please God, work it out so he can stay with me, I'll take care of him,
and I would love to be his dad." Then I drifted back off to sleep
holding my little boy.
