Chapter 19

Richard's rescue

	After breakfast I dressed in conservative clothing and went to the
hospital and after I was screened by the charge nurse I was lead to Richard
room and what I saw was enough to make me sick he was in full restraints
soft cuffs, body and ankle I asked why was that necessary she looked at me
and said "it's what the little queer deserves, but it's doctors orders" I
was restraining my self from punching her in the nose, I looked at her and
said "where is the nearest public phone" she pointed to the waiting room
and said "there is one in there and outside at the entrance" I called the
PD and asked for the chief he came on the phone and I explained what my
concerns were and that I would need his help, his answer was not what I
expected, he said "this is the last straw I told that Doctor what his
limits were but he will do it his way but not in my town, MJ I will be
there in 5 minutes".

	I made an other call and told Bill that "we may have an other
guest, and Bobby knows him just tell him I said `Richard' I will call you
later" as I stood there two police cars pulled up and I recognized the
chief as he walked up I shook his hand and we walked up to Richard's room
and as I arrived the charge nurse said "you cant go in there" I looked at
her and said "say what" at this point she realized that I had the chief of
Police and 7 Cops with me and she wilted and got on the phone fast, in the
mean time I walked into Richard's room and as I did he said "no not more
shock treatments" as best I could I wrapped my arms around him and
whispered "not if I can help it" his demeanor changed instantly and he said
in a soft and lyrical voice "now I believe in a God as he sent you to me in
my hour of need" I started to disconnect his restraints and this little
self important bastard walked into the room and screamed that he would kill
me if I didn't leave and as he looked around he realizes that there were 8
police officer including the chief in the room and I hadn't stopped getting
Richard out of his bondage I watched the charge nurse pull a paper shredder
out and she was looking for his chart but what she didn't know I was a
sneak and I had Richard's chart and I waved it at her and gave her the one
finger salute as the doctor realized I had Richard's records it took two
cops to restrain him as he screamed that is hospital property, he looked at
the chief and said "he is stealing hospital property and I demand you do
your duty and arrest him" the Chief winked at me and took the chart and
said "this is evidence of a crime and as such I will take charge of it" the
doctor said "the information in that chart is private and it is the same as
attorney client privilege" the chief asked the nurse please bring in the
patent's control card and as he read it he said to the nurse what name is
listed as `Parent ad litem' the nurse said "M. J. McMasters" the chief
looked at me and said "show the doctor your drivers licence" I did and the
doctor said but I didn't know, to which I answered "and you didn't care as
it would interfere with your experiments on a defenseless blind little boy"
my answer was said at the top of my vocal ability the nurse said "sir this
is a hospital, please keep your voice down" but the damage was already done
and the local newspaper reporters that had followed the Chief to the
hospital now had a juicy story.

	I had all of the restraints off of Richard and I dressed him and as
the staff cheered I carried him out in my arms and he was holding on to me
as tight as he could taking a carefully planed out route that gave me a
chance to verify that I was not being followed as I pulled up Bobby came
and kissed Richard and lead him into the house as he did I asked everyone
give him some room so he could breath, they did and after he was able to
sit without either Bobby or me holding him I slowly introduced him to every
one and as I did he kissed them one and all, I explained to every one that
Richard was a boy that Bobby and I met on the train from New York, and OK
he is gay and he is blind but he has the sweetest disposition of any one I
have ever met, and a memory like a steel trap, so don't say anything that
you don't want repeated as he can remember Bill said "who am I"

	Richard answered "you are Bill and you were MJ's first gay roommate
and you drive a restored WWII jeep that MJ had to drive when you first
brought it here because you were to young to drive in this state" Bill held
up his hand and said "Richard come here and as Richard moved to Bill I held
my breath but Richard steered him self around every obstacle when he
reached Bill he held out his arms and Bill pulled him in for a soft hug and
kiss and as Richard backed away he said "I truly love all of you" at that
the shout scared Richard but he realized that the sound was a sound of love
so he smiled.

	As we relaxed the door bell rang and Richard moved to my side and
as he did I said "relax and lets see who it is, as I opened the door the
Chief stood there and said "we need to talk" I told Bill to care for
Richard and I sat on the front porch with the chief and as we sat there the
chief said "I have both good and bad news the good news is the doctor was
seen trying to carry out a couple of boxes of hospital records and he was
arrested and the boys records showed that the good doctor was torturing the
boy and he was going to kill him if he could not `cure him', the bad news
is that we tried to contact Richard's mother and we found out that she was
killed in a major cab against truck accident and the trucking company has
admitted fault so Richard will be ok and they found a document in her
apartment making you his guardian in case of her death and you will have to
tell him that" I looked at him and said "1st I want to sue the hospital and
staff, specifically the doctor for his care and pain and suffering 2nd I
know a Jewish attorney on the east coast that will sue the trucking company
in Richard name as I will need money to support him for a long time" the
chief said "this is a copy of the hospital file and I have one more copy in
my office safe at home, and I will have New York send my police office a
copy of the accident report.

	Later that day I called Wally Markowitz an attorney that my dad
knew and I explained the situation and considering that he had a gay
grandson he wanted to do what I needed Pro Bono and he took my phone number
and address than he asked could the boy be brought to New York for the
trial, I swallowed and said "not unless it is absolutely necessary and I
will be with him constantly while he's in New York" Wally agreed and said
"are you OK with the costs to come to NY" I thought about for a few seconds
and said "I think I can but if I need some cash I can come up with it here
from my friends" but I was wolfing it as I didn't know where next months
groceries were coming from when Bobby, Richard and John were in the back
yard I called Joe, Bill and Marty into my office and when they were sitting
I said "this house is financially broke and in order to fight for Richard
in court in New York I will need some financial support from all of you and
to start with we are getting low on groceries and I will need to take
Richard to New York if and when the case reaches the court and in the mean
time we need to live therefor we need to pay bills gas, electric, rent and
groceries but up to now I have been carrying this house but at this time
and for the foreseeable future I need everyone's help and I want to sleep
for a week and I have a lab this afternoon".

	As I sat behind my desk Bill said "any amount of money that you
need you will have as the sale of my interest in the old mall has now been
funded and it came to a lot more than we figured it would, plus if you
don't take a salary I will with the help of my brothers shove the cash down
your throat" both Joe and Marty softly giggled and I said "say what" at
that moment Bobby, Richard and John came in from the back yard and Richard
was complaining that his brothers were cheating him out of points I looked
at Bobby and John and said "now that you have cheated a blind boy what will
you do as a follow up steal from the church poor box" Richard moved so as
he was between his brothers, he said "I cant hate them because they are my
brothers, and I love them" Bobby and John wrapped there arms around Richard
and said "we cheated with out any animosity, as we love him too".
