Morning came around and I woke Ryan up at 0600 and we swam together for an
hour. Then he went out to collect eggs while I got the bacon going and made
coffee. I sent Ryan to wake his dad up at 7:15 as I was finishing the
preparation for breakfast.

We ate a hearty breakfast together, then without being reminded Ryan
cleared the plates and did the dishes while his dad and I talked. The
transformation in the boy was so obvious that all he could say was "My God,
he looks so good. He's so polite... Thank you".

After breakfast, Ryan went out and split wood for an hour. There was
already a huge stack of firewood, and Ryan glistened with sweat as he
easily split one log after another. His dad watched in wonder at the ease
with which his son did this. After the hour was up, I called Ryan in and
suggested he get cleaned up for the day, which he did, returning a short
time later in a wifebeater, sneakers, and jeans.

"Hey Guys, I think I'm going to go into town for a few hours today, so Ryan
you should take your dad around, maybe go on a hike and show him the places
he hasn't been for a while".

"Uncle John you sure you don't want to stay with us"? he asked.

"Nah Ryan, you and dad need to get caught up" I said, as I got my keys and
headed to the truck.

While I was in town I got a haircut, shopped for groceries, and picked up 6
lobsters and some clams since I knew Ryan's dad hadn't had that kind of
seafood since the previous Summer.

When I got back to the house, they were still out so I went for a kayak
around the lake and just relaxed. At about 4 pm, the two of them returned,
hot and sweaty from their day in the woods.

"Hey guys, why don't you both go cool off in the Lake and I'll prepare a
lobster bake for us" I said.

"Great" they said, and I watched them go down to the dock, strip down and
get in the lake.

When the clams were ready, I called them and they sat at the picnic table,
towels around their waists, and ate with enthusiasm. Once the clams were
polished off, I boiled the 6 lobsters and they similarly polished those
off.

I then said "Hey you guys should go get cleaned up and put on something
warmer and we can have a bonfire tonight".

While the guys were getting cleaned up, I did the dishes and started a
fire.

Afterward we sat outside and just chatted about life, Ryan's progress, his
job at the camp, and his adventures.
