Words from the author: I love this part of the stories best. It is my little
soap box. I get to get up on it, and tell how I feel. You can either read
it or not. I hope you read it, so I'll keep it short. My friends we are at
a terrible crossroads in the time of life.

The number one reason for teen suicide is sexuality; homosexuality. It is a
terrible tragedy, we must band together and end the cycle of hate. I am
talking about self-hate, and the hate of others, towards gays.

I beg you all to, love, today, and today only, with the spirit of love. I
ask you all today, and just for today, to love all around you. Let your love
show, walk proud my little ones, for you are the chosen. I am not asking you
to wear a pink ribbon, or getting involved in a protest. I am merely asking
you to love other human beings for what they are.

With that said, let me get on with the story. If you want to send me an
e-mail feel free to do so. I love hearing from you. You can find me at

Nate had called the front desk and left word for his parents where he would
be. I had turned on the television, and we both laid in the king-size bed,
with our heads towards the television. The room is beautifully decorated.
There is a large entertainment center, it includes a stereo with a CD player,
a video player, and a thirty-six inch screen television. The cabinet was
cherry, as all the furniture in the room. The room is done in shades of
blue, and highlighted with antique white. There is a writing table near the
windows, and the view of Manhattan is breathtaking. I drew the drapes open
before we laid down.

We laid upon the bed, like we were two people stranded on an island. The
ocean around us was choppy, and the seas rough. The bed is the comfort we
find, in the midst of the madness around us. Lying here with my little
friend felt so right.

Nate chattered away, his face beaming with happiness. Those dark brown eyes,
are lit with delight. His smile is infectious. He had me in his spell.
This fourteen year old child, is pulling me into to his life. I am willingly
following him.

"Jarrod, can I confide in you?" Nate asks me, with a serene look on his face.

"Sure kid, you can tell me anything you want," as I look at him and smile.

"I just..... I mean.... Well, the way you looked at me in the bar," he
stutters and stammers. He is so cute.

"Yes?" I ask. I can't seem to take my eyes off this little beauty.

"Jarrod, I'm gay. Does that offend you? If it does, I'll leave." Tears
begin to well up in this child's eyes. He is so full of pain.

"My little friend, you don't have to leave. I would be hurt if you did. I
really find you the best thing that has happened me today." I reached my
left arm over his torso.

"So many people hate me, because I'm gay. I never tried anything with them,
they hate me. Oh Jarrod why do they hate me?" Nate's tears flow down his
cheeks. Huge alligator tears.

"I know Nate, I know." I can feel my own tears stinging my eyes. I feel one
dropping down my right cheek. I can feel it reach my lips, and the salty
taste is not at all refreshing.

"How, uh-uh, do, uh-mmm-uh, you know?" Nate said in between his cries.

"I'm gay too." I state matter of factually. "I have been gay since I can
remember."

"Really?" Nathan is astonished with my revelation.

"Yes, its true, I am gay. I was admiring your beauty in the bar. You are so
handsome, I can't take my eyes off you." I mean it too. This child is a
perfect creation from God above.

Nate reaches towards me with his arms and begins to hug me. I feel his warm
little body against my own. There are those feelings again, in my loins. I
hug him back, I smother him with my affection.

Just then the phone rings. I jump, my heart skips a beat. I answer the room
phone. "Hello this is Jarrod."

"Hello this is Mrs. Matthewson, Nathan's Mom. Is he with you? I was, or I
mean my husband and I were wondering, if we could meet you?" She said with
no real concern in her voice.

"Sure, that would be fine. We were just going to watch a movie together.
Would you like to join us?" I asked politely.

"Yes, we'll be right over. Can we bring something?" She wondered.

"No, just come on over." I said to her, and hung the phone up.

I look over to my new friend and say. "That was your Mom, her and you Dad
are on their way over to meet me."

"Don't worry, Jarrod, they know I'm gay. I think they're going to like you."
Nate is much happier now. His face is actually glowing. I can see shades
of yellow coming from him. I can feel his happiness, and excitement.

His parents were now sitting in my room. In a matter of minutes we were old
friends. His father, obviously loves his wife, and son. He is looking with
such pride at them both. He is taller than I am. Mr. Matthewson, stands six
feet tall, he has black hair, and blue eyes, a very distinguished looking
gentleman. Mrs. Matthewson, is a lovely women. She has blonde hair, the
same as Nate. She has the same dark eyes, the same smile, and her lips are
done in a nice shade of pink. Her hair is wavy, and she combs her bangs to
the right. Her hair looks as soft as Nate's, and is longer than his. I can
see where he gets his looks from.

"Well, you see Jarrod, we worry about Nate, he has a hard time in school."
Mrs. Matthewson says to me. She has the look only a mother can have for a
child she loves. The center of her universe, is obviously her family. She
continues telling me stories of the trials and tribulations, of this young
man. My little friend. She finally looks over to her husband, and then back
to me, and says "We should talk again soon, just the three of us."

With the meeting done, the parents get up and leave, just as they entered,
quietly and confidently. Nate and I are left in the room, and climb back on
our island. We lie back in the bed, again with our heads facing the TV, and
the movie is just starting.

I have been wanting to watch this movie for so long, and Nate has confessed
to me his most guarded secret. I am just overwhelmed with joy. His parents
seem so supportive of him. They are a lot like my parents. I can imagine
the Matthewson family having dinner together. With this little god, lighting
up the home. I cannot imagine anyone hating this child, he is so loving. He
has so much to offer the world.

"Jarrod, can I ask you something?" Nate says to me, as we lie there in the
bed. "When did you figure out you were gay?"

"When I was about ten years old, I knew I was different. It wasn't until I
was like twelve when I knew why I was different. All my other friends liked
girls, and I didn't. I liked boys." Is the most honest thing I can say.

"I know what you mean. Its the same for me. I have never had sex though. I
mean with anyone besides myself," he says. "I've wanted to, but haven't been
brave enough to approach anyone."

"Yes, it can be scary being gay. If you come on to the wrong guy it could be
very embarrassing. I have yet to figure out why they call it "Gay", I can
honestly say there isn't much gay about it. I have lived in fear too." I
said to Nate, as sincere as I could be.

"I know what you mean Jarrod. I had a friend ask me if I was gay, I thought
I could trust him. Instead he made fun of me, and called me "little queen
boy", the other boys in my class all taunt me." Nate says looking at me with
real confusion in his little face.

"We have to keep our sexuality to ourselves. The world is not ready for us."
 I say to him.

He reaches both his arms around me again, and hugs me. I just want to
smother this young boy with my love. I just want to hug away all his
anxieties. I know he is so young, and am afraid to. He presses his young
lips to mine, and kisses me. It was like butter fly wings on my lips. I
wanted to return the kiss, but was afraid.

"Please Jarrod, kiss me back. I need to feel loved by another man. I want
you to love me Jarrod." Nate says as he kisses me again on the mouth.

"Love is a strong word my friend, and takes time. You build love, like you
build a building, from the bottom up, and it has to be on a strong
foundation. A foundation of trust." I say to my little friend.

"That is so beautiful, Jarrod. Can we build a love for each other? Jarrod,
do you think could love me?" He is so free with his thoughts, his innocence
is his beauty.

"I could, Nate, I really could. It will take time, we need to go slowly, I
would never want to hurt you. Can you allow me the time to learn to love
you, and you learn to love me back?" I am so taking by this boy.

We settle back into our comfortable positions, next to each other, on the
island of happiness. We watch the Sixth Sense together. There are many
scary parts, but the scariest is when the little girl ghost comes to the main
character, a little boy. The little boy is scared, and quite an actor I
might add. The little girl ghost vomits, and it grosses us both out. We
reach for each other during that part. Here I am a twenty-seven year old
construction executive, lying in bed hugging a fourteen year old. Not in a
brotherly way, in a loving way.

Just then the room phone rang. I moved my body to reach the phone. Nate
grabbed it for me. He was so useful.

"Hello" I say into the phone.

"Jarrod, this is Barbara, Barbara Matthewson. George and I were wondering if
you could keep Nate there for a while. We were going to go dancing over to
Studio 54. Would you mind?"

"No, sure thing, Mrs. Matthewson, no problem at all. I'll keep him here.
When do you think you'll be back?"

"Probably around midnight, no later. Please call me Barbara." I hear her
voice say into my ear.

"Gee, Mrs. I mean Barbara, he could spend the night here if you'd rather.
I'll have a cot sent up." I say as nonchalantly as ordering a meal in the
restaurant down stairs.

"That would be really thoughtful of you Jarrod." Barbara said to me. "If
you're sure you don't mind, George and I would really like to get out."

"Not at all, you and George have a good time. I'll call for the cot right
now." I could feel the excitement, of the possibilities building in my mind.
"Guess what my little friend, that was your Mom, your spending the night
with me."

"Really, you mean it, oh Jarrod this is too cool." Nate says to me while
jumping up and down on the bed. He jumps from the bed and into my arms. I
spin him around, and hug him with all the love I can find in my body. He
wraps his legs around my waist, and gives me a deep tender kiss. I have
never felt so at ease with anyone in my life. I can't put my finger on the
feeling, but it is comforting.
