Chapter 10 - My Son and His Friends

I awoke early the next morning and lay there thinking about everything that
had transpired during the summer. I regretted that I had not been able to
make it to the mountains for hiking, rambling, shopping, eating at fabulous
restaurants, rafting and tubing, but I promised myself that somehow I would
make every effort to do so next summer. As I lay there, I began to get
that feeling of dread that summer was ending and I would soon be back at
work. I love teaching; I just hate all the other bull-crap that has been
tied to it lately. I resent the new teaching standards along with its
stressful and unrelenting standardized testing. I really dread the first
few days of pre-planning as they would be tied up with meetings regarding
all the curriculum changes, new testing requirements, new evaluation
system, and other boring non- educational crap. I shook my head really
hard and I woke Ryan up. He wanted to know what I had done that shook the
bed so violently. I told him that I was clearing my head - he looked at me
and said "Is it clear now? I was having a good dream and you woke me up."
I pushed his head back down into his pillow and said "Go back to dreamland,
I am getting up. I don't hear mom in the kitchen so maybe I can get in
there and get breakfast started before she does." He lifted his head back
up and said "Good Luck! I am staying in bed."

I rolled out of bed and dressed quickly. Washed my hands and headed to the
kitchen. No sooner had I turned on the kitchen lights than mom appeared.
She asked "What are you doing up so early?" I said "Well, I was hungry and
since the cook was not on duty I was pressed to start things myself." She
glared at me and said "Well Douglas around here we do allow the cook some
sleep time. Now you need to get out of my kitchen, so I can get breakfast
started."

Knowing my mom like I do, I left the kitchen and returned to my room. I
decided to shave, shower and get dressed for the day. I went to the
bathroom and as I was showering I thought back to the time with Randy in
the dugout. That was so pleasurable and so not like me or maybe I should
say so not like the old me. I finished my shower and finished dressing. I
went back to the bedroom and woke Ryan up. He was a grumpy thirteen
year-old that morning, but I pointed him to the bathroom and he complied.
Soon he was showered, dressed, and his usual happy self. We went to the
kitchen and had breakfast with my parents.

We finished breakfast and Mom wanted to know what we were going to do that
day. I asked her if she had something that she wanted to do with us and
she sat there and thought for a few minutes. Finally, she said "Well if we
are going to go to the Davis' this afternoon for fish, then I need to go to
the Farmers' Market for some stuff. I want to send some stuff home with
you guys tomorrow too."

So Ryan and I cleaned up the kitchen, while she and Dad changed clothes.
In a short amount of time, they were ready to go and we loaded up and
headed to the Farmers' Market. I drove up close to the building, we got
out and started wandering the various vendors. I love fresh produce and
especially home-grown tomatoes that smell like tomatoes. I absolutely hate
those picked as green and ripened with gas as they do not have a tomato
taste. I shop with my nose. I pick up tomatoes, cantaloupes, peaches, and
apples, if they do not smell like what they are supposed to be, then they
stay right where they are. I walked over to this one vendor that had a big
display of tomatoes. I picked one up and smelled it; it was a tomato for
sure. I bought a case of them. I then walked on down and found a vendor
that had fresh okra and I purchased five pounds of it. I decided that I
had enough so I went to look for mom and the rest of the gang. Ryan had
found a vendor that was selling a late crop of yellow peaches. He wanted
some as he loved a peach cobbler. I stood there with him and we picked out
about twenty pounds. I do not buy peaches by the box as they are often
bruised and have begun to age. We finished making that purchase, and
located mom. She had purchased everything she needed and was ready to go
back to the house.

We loaded up our stuff and she wanted to know what I had purchased, I told
her about the tomatoes and okra and she smiled. My mom knows I love okra
and tomatoes and she knew that I wanted her to can me some that afternoon
before we went to the Davis' house. We arrived back at mom's house and
unloaded the Yukon. She told me that if I wanted her to can the okra and
tomatoes that I would have to go and get the canning jars, rings, lids, and
some spices. She specified what she wanted and Ryan and I were off to
Wal-Mart. We located the needed supplies and headed home. Mom had washed
the okra and tomatoes and had begun to peel and cut up the tomatoes. I
started slicing the okra and was shortly asking myself "who bought this
much of this stuff?" I finished my task and mom put everything together
along with her spices and it began to cook. The smell was wonderful and I
would sneak back to the kitchen every so often for a taste. She finished
the cooking, and then she began to fill the jars. My job was to apply the
lids and to tighten the rings. We finished and we had twenty quarts of okra
and tomatoes.

Mom then asked me what we were going to do with the peaches and I told her
that Ryan wanted them for cobblers. She said "Well Doug, I suggest that we
peel them, slice them and then freeze them. That way they will be ready to
cook and we will use them before they go bad. I pulled the box of peaches
out and mom started peeling them. As she peeled them, I cut them up in
small pieces. Mom took the bowl and alternately layered them with sugar in
a large pot on the stove. I pulled her quart freezer bags out and laid
them on the counter. She finished cooking the peaches and allowed them to
cool. I helped her bag them and then we placed the ten quart bags in her
freezer.

It was getting close to lunch time, so since I had kept mom busy in the
kitchen, I told everybody that lunch was on me. We loaded up and I drove
to the Soup and Salad Bar as we needed something, but did not need to eat a
lot since we would be eating fish around 5 o'clock. I was a little
concerned because Ryan found the chili and had three bowls of it. I know
the boy and I was just hoping he could keep himself under control. Guys you
know what I mean here. The rest of us enjoyed the variety of salads that
were offered. We had a nice leisurely lunch, and then we went back home.

Mom began to prepare her portions of the evening's meal. She prepared her
sour cream pound cake, her rendition of a slaw that she had at lunch, a
macaroni salad, and two gallons of lemonade. I decided to go to my room
and began to pull our stuff together. I started sorting our clothes as to
how I would wash them when I returned home. After I finished that, I
looked at the bed and thought that it would be nice to just lie down for a
few minutes. I lay down and just about the time that I was about to doze
off another body hit the bed too. I opened my eyes and it was Ryan. He
asked "Why are you in bed? Don't you have something that you should be
cooking?" I told him that mom had everything that had been agreed to
underway and I was going to rest. He said "But Dad, I checked and no one
has baked beans on the menu and you make the best baked beans."

I got up and went to the kitchen to see if mom had the stuff that I needed
to fix the baked beans. I checked the freezer and the pantry. She had
everything that I needed so I hurriedly mixed up the baked beans and
started them cooking. Sleep was now completely out of my mind. Ryan was
happy, he sat at the kitchen table and talked about what he had found out
regarding the menu. I just nodded my head as it was stuff that you would
expect like cheese grits, hush puppies, French fries, sliced tomatoes,
along with the stuff that mom was preparing.

Around 4 o'clock Dad came back to the house and asked Ryan if he was ready
to go help fry the fish and hush puppies. Ryan was up and out the door in
a flash. I took that time to walk out to the back yard and call Barbara.
We talked for a few minutes and then I asked for Anthony's phone number.
She gave it to me and then I hung up. I looked at my phone and saw that I
had time for quick phone call to Anthony. I called him and we talked about
some business that I needed to have handled. We had a very good chat and
pledged to keep in touch in the future especially as Ryan was growing up so
fast. I got off the phone, and helped mom finish up in the kitchen.
Around 4:45 we began to take things over to the Davis house. Mrs. Davis
had made a gallon of sweet tea, but mom told me that she did not sweeten it
like I liked it, so I should take me some additional sugar or strongly
sweetened water to add to the tea.

We were able to start eating around 5 o'clock and the food looked and
tasted so delicious. Mom was sooooo right about the tea - she may have put
the sugar container by the tea jug, but I doubt any sugar went in there.
That was my only complaint. I enjoyed the meal as it was one that I did
not have to prepare by myself. We all sat around the table and talked
about the neighborhood, the town, the economy, life in general, and Ryan.
Around 8 o'clock I excused myself to return to mom's so that I could begin
to pull our stuff together as I wanted to leave for home early the next
morning. Ryan joined me and he was a big help. He pulled out what he
wanted to wear home and he made my choice for me. We laid those items out
on the dresser and then we started pulling our clean clothes out of the
drawers and the closet. We packed our luggage and loaded it into the
Yukon. I put my devil's backbone in the back area and secured it with the
boxes containing the canned okra and tomatoes. I held a space open for our
dirty clothes bag and a cooler which would hold the frozen peaches which we
would load in the morning before we left.

We finished the packing of the Yukon and went back into the house. About
that time, Mom and Dad returned with the stuff that was left-over. Mom cut
us a big slice of the pound cake so that we could take it home with us. I
helped her prepare stuff for the refrigerator while Ryan cleaned the dishes
and loaded the dishwasher. As soon as we finished those tasks, we settled
in the family room and just relaxed watching some program on TV until
around 11 o'clock. At that time, mom and dad said that they were going to
bed and Ryan and I headed to our room.

We entered our room and Ryan headed to the bathroom. When he finished, I
took care of my business, and then I returned to the bedroom. Ryan was
waiting for me in the bed with his boxer briefs on. I turned off the
overhead light, adjusted the fan and joined Ryan in bed. I pulled him to
me and we were asleep in a few minutes.

The next morning came fast, and I awoke to hear the birds outside our room
chirping and singing. I looked at the clock and it was 6 a.m. I shook
Ryan awake and pointed him to the bathroom. We shared the bathroom with
him showering and me shaving. I stepped in the shower when he finished and
he went to the bedroom and dressed. As soon as I finished my shower, I
gathered the used towels and wash cloths and dropped them in the floor. I
did a quick clean of the shower, then went to the bedroom, and dressed for
the drive home.

We put our dirty clothes in the dirty clothes bag and Ryan took it to the
Yukon. I took the used towels and wash cloths to the laundry room along
with our sheets and pillow cases. I loaded the sheets and pillow cases and
started the machine. Mom could finish the drying and washing the towels
when she returned from Church later in the day.

Mom heard us in the house and she came out to tell us that she was going to
cook breakfast, but I told her that I wanted to get on the road and that we
would eat on the way. She was not happy, but I would not give in, so she
called Dad. He came into the kitchen, and told us how much he had enjoyed
our visit. I told him we had enjoyed our visit too, and that we wanted
them to visit us at our home soon. He looked at mom, and then he told me
that they would talk it over and see what developed. I gave each a hug,
and then I walked out to the Yukon and put the cooler containing the
peaches in the back. Ryan was already sitting waiting for me; Mom and Dad
went around to his door, opened it and hugged him. I got in and cranked
up. We said our final good-byes and I backed out the driveway and started
home.

I looked at the clock and we were out of the driveway at 6:30 a.m. I ask
Ryan what he wanted for breakfast and he said he wanted a bacon, egg, and
cheese biscuit with a drink. I agreed that I could eat the same thing so I
located one of the fast food places, and we placed our orders in
drive-through. We drove up to the window and as I started to pay, I looked
up and I knew the woman operating the window. She was a friend of
Allison's. She looked at me and smiled. She asked how I was doing and I
told her I was doing fine. I told her that we had been visiting here and
were now on our way home. She wanted to know if I had been to see
Allison's mom, I told her yes, and I introduced her to Ryan. She looked
down and over at him, and complimented him on being such a nice looking
young man. Ryan blushed. She handed me our order, and I paid her. We
said our good-byes, and now we were on our way home.

As we drove along, Ryan talked about his grandparents and Barbara. He gave
me a hard time about how I let mom get on my nerves. He told me that I
cringe when she looks at me and especially when she starts asking
questions. I told him that if he wanted a dose of how it feels I could do
that without even breaking a sweat. He opted to leave things as they were
between us. He talked about fishing with Mr. Davis and Dad. He said that
Mr. Davis used some kind of worms that came from a tree; I told him that
they were Catawba worms. He wanted to know which tree, and I remembered
that Dad had one in his yard. I mentioned which one it was, and then he
remembered it as having big leaves. I told him that he was right. I told
him that a lot of birds would come to the trees and eat the worms when they
were young, so a lot of times Dad and Mr. Davis would hang aluminum pie
pans in the trees to scare the birds away. He said that sounded dumb, I
said well it may, but it works.

I asked him if he was excited about being an eighth grader this year. He
told me that he was, but he really was concerned about trying to do soccer
and swimming and keeping his grades up. I looked at him and told him that
if the grades dropped, he would be out of sports. I have always made it
clear that grades come first. He said he understood, and that is why he
was worried. I told him that I had hoped that he was in the advanced
classes.

About mid-way on the way home, his phone rang and it was Jay. Jay called
to find out if we had started home. Ryan told him that according to me, we
were about halfway home. Jay said "Good tell Pops that Mom and Dad are
preparing dinner for you guys tonight so eat a light lunch and come on
home. I have missed you guys."

In about ten minutes, my phone rang and I looked down and it was Shane. I
answered and he said "Wellllll, hey there sexy. Have you missed me? I
said "Yes Mr. Jones, I think that can be arranged." Shane said "Oh little
ears (referring to Ryan) is close by." I said "Yes" He said that Jay had
told him that we would be at their house for dinner tonight, and that he
would be there to check me out. I know I smiled, but I said "Well
Mr. Jones I will see you in the next day or so" and hung up.

Ryan looked over at me and said "Dad, I know that was Shane, Jay told me
that he was going to call you. I don't know why you were being so
mysterious." I looked at him and said "Well Ryan, I like to throw Shane
off ever so often." He just shook his head and said "My Dad."

Around noon we stopped in a town about one hundred and twenty miles from
home. We tried to find something that we could get that would be quick and
fill the need for food but not interfere with our meal tonight at Jay and
Shane's parent's house. We settled on a salad and drink at Wendy's. We
took our time and had lunch within the building as it was cool and you just
can't enjoy a salad driving down the road.

We finished our lunch, threw our trash away, hit the restrooms, loaded up
and hit the road again. Ryan pulled out his phone and began to text Jay,
Rob, and Myles. He gave them an estimated time of arrival. I asked him
why he did that, and he said "Well, Dad I thought the more hands that we
had to unload this stuff, the faster I could hang out with them." I shook
my head, my son will find a way to get out of work.

We arrived at the house and true to form, there were the three boys waiting
for us in the front yard. I backed in, raised the garage door, and pushed
the button for the back door to open. I got out, and Myles grabbed me,
hugged me, and said "Pops, I have missed you so much." I smiled, hugged
him and told him that I too had missed him. They pitched in with Ryan
directing them as to where the stuff went. I headed to the laundry room
with the dirty clothes and started a load of our colored clothes. I then
checked the refrigerator to see how things had held up and also to see what
I needed for the week. The boys finished unloading the Yukon, and Ryan
asked permission to go to Rob's house. I told him that he needed to be
back at the house by 5:30. I told him that I was going to run a few
errands, so if he needed me he needed to have his cell phone. He grabbed
it, and was out the door in seconds.

I walked through the house, adjusted the thermostats, checked on the
location of the stuff that they had unloaded, unpacked my luggage, hung my
shirts, placed my other clothes in the dresser, then I grabbed me some
paper and made me a quick shopping list. I finished and then I headed out
of the house, got in the Yukon, closed the garage door and headed to the
grocery store.

I got out and walked into the grocery store. As I was shopping, I ran into
several of my fellow teacher, we chatted about how much we hated giving up
the summer, and returning to work. I heard about a couple of teachers who
had decided to quit because of all of the changes that they felt that they
could not live with anymore. I understood that feeling, but I was far from
being able to walk away without another job in my hand. I finished my
shopping and returned to the house. I stored the stuff that I had bought,
pulled out a bowl and put some ice cream in it. I then settled on the sofa
in the family room. No talking, no questions, no demands on my time, and I
started thinking that I really could really get used to it, or so I
thought.

Around 5:15, the boys arrived and then the house took on a life of its own.
The TV was on, the refrigerator was raided, the ice cream was found, dishes
were pulled out, and now they were in the sink awaiting someone to put them
in the dishwasher. Around 5:30, I directed Ryan to shower and put on clean
clothes. He grumbled, but he did it. The other boys waited for him and
they spent the time bringing me up to date on what had happened in the
neighborhood while we were away. Ryan reappeared, and we were on our way
next door for dinner. We entered their house and went on through to the
covered back porch. Justin was grilling ribs and chicken. He greeted me
with a firm handshake, and told me to grab a beer. I did, and sat down in
one of the porch rockers near him. He made some minor movements of the
meats on the grill, and then he sat down. His wife came out, and sat down
too. The three of us just sat there and talked. Justin said "Doug, I do
not know how you do it. I had Jay and Shane here for six days, and I
thought I was going to go crazy. They got along, but it was constantly
some type of action, going here, going there, eating, TV on, wii pulled
out, Rob and Myles here, and those boys can eat. I am so glad that you are
home." His wife laughed and said "Doug, we knew that they spent a lot of
time with you, but all of the boys and I am including Shane in that group
were miserable without you and Ryan."

Justin got up and checked the meats again. He told his wife that he
thought that everything was ready, so she got up and started bringing the
other foods to the outside table. Justin called the boys out to eat, and
we all gathered around the table and started putting the food on our
plates. I was making progress with mine when all of a sudden somebody
grabbed me between my legs. I almost threw my plate, but I held onto it in
spite of the surprise. I turned around and it was Shane. He had this grin
on his face, and he said at a whispered level "Pops, I have missed you and
that perky ass of yours."

I looked around the room and the only person looking our way was Jay. He
had that grin plastered on his face. I would have to deal with him later,
but for now, I finished loading my plate and found me a place at one of the
tables. Shane came over and sat by me. Jay's eyes followed him, and he
kept watching us from across the room throughout the meal.

We all sat around and talked while eating ribs and chicken. There was a
lot of good food and several interesting and tasty desserts served that
evening. After everyone had finished eating, I got up and began to gather
the paper plates taking them to the trash. Jay's mom began to store the
few left-overs using plastic containers or using covers for some of the
bowls. In about ten minutes we had the tables cleared and everyone was
kicked back drinking sodas, sweet teas, or lemonades and talking about
plans for the last days of summer.

I sat there and began to accept that I only had two more days of freedom
while the boys had nine more. I must have been in deep thought and off in
my own world as Ryan jabbed me in the ribs and said "Dad, Mr. Justin just
asked you what are your plans for the Labor Day Weekend?" I looked over at
Justin and said "Justin, I can't get past the seven days of pre- planning
that I must endure. There are so many different changes to education and
most of them have taken the fun out of it, but do you have any
suggestions?" Justin said "I do, but I would like to discuss them in
private." All eyes were on the two of us, even Justin's wife.

I looked over at Justin and said "Well let's take a walk outside and you
can tell me what you are thinking." We got up and walked around the yard.
Justin shared with me that he was thinking that all of us should take a
trip together and that we should not announce the location until we were
well on the way. I loved the idea and I asked him if he had a destination
in mind. He said that he had already done some research and that
reservations could easily be made. He also told me that he had checked
with Rob's parents and that they were onboard, he said the only issue was
that Myles' mom could not get off work that weekend so Myles might not be
able to go. I looked at Justin and said "Myles will go as he is like my
other son. That will not be a problem. So I say go ahead and make the
reservations." Justin looked at me and said "Don't you even want to know
where?" I looked at him and said "No, that way I won't do any worrying and
if the boys find out about the trip, then I won't be lying if they ask me
and I say I don't know." He said "I will tell you shorts, swimsuits,
polos, and a pair of jeans and khakis are all you will need." I told him
that sounded good to me.

We walked back into the porch area and Ryan started asking me questions. I
just looked at him and told him that I had to do some thinking. He wanted
to know about what, and I said things. He wanted to know when he would
know, and I told him when I told him. He was growing frustrated, but
finally figured out that he was barking up a tree that was not going to
give him any answers, so he just looked at Jay and said "Let's go watch
TV." I laughed when they left. Justin looked at me and said "You really
bugged him." I said "Yeah, I do that occasionally but he loves me anyway."

Shane moved over by me again and said "I'm sure that you will tell me won't
you Pops?" I looked Shane in the eyes and said "Shane, not even if you
tried to pound it out of me." His eyes widened and he turned red. Justin
said "Doug, I have got to figure out how you so effectively handle Shane.
Would you like to share?" I looked over at Shane and said "Well Justin you
have to know when and how to poke Shane to get his attention." Shane
turned redder and I just laughed at him.

I stayed with them until around nine thirty that night talking and
listening to all the stuff that had happened while we were visiting my mom
and dad. I finally excused myself, walked in the house, and told Ryan that
I was heading home. He told me that he would be home by ten. I walked
into the house, and headed to my room. I took a shower and crawled into
bed. Around ten, I heard the front door open and close. I could see based
on the lighting in the house that the lights were being turned off. Ryan
stuck his head in my room, and let me know that he was home. I said "Good,
see you in the morning." I rolled over on my stomach and was just about
asleep when I felt someone crawl into bed with me. They crawled on my back
and put their lips level with my right ear. Then a voice said "Oh so you
think you know how to poke me huh?" It was Shane. I said "How did you get
in here?" He said "I bribed Ryan." Now let's see who can poke who."

Shane stood up and stripped out of his clothing. He lifted the sheet and
crawled back in the bed. He grabbed my face and pulled it to his. He
started kissing me on the lips, and down my neck to my nipples. He circled
them with his tongue and started biting and pulling them with his teeth.
My dick became rigid, and I was leaking pre-cum. I let my hands roam down
his back and to his butt. I pulled him to me and forced his face back up
to mine. I kissed him and let my tongue explore his mouth. He moved so
that he was lying on top of me with his hard cock rubbing on top of mine.
We began to move against one another ,and he began to tell me how good it
felt to feel me hard and leaking pre-cum. I could feel that both of us had
leaked a lot of pre-cum and things were very slick. I rolled him over and
he lifted his legs over my shoulders. I leaned up and kissed him while my
dick seemed to sense the location of his hole. I felt it at his opening,
and I leaned into Shane. I began to enter him, and he grabbed my head and
started passionately kissing me. I felt my cock slide deeper into him
until my pubes were rubbing up against his ass. I began to pull out, and
he began to moan. I pulled to just where my cock head was just inside him,
and then I slid back in slowly. He let his hands roam down my back and
began to press into my spine with his fingers. I began to slowly withdraw
and enter him. He attacked my mouth and as our tongues began to duel, I
speeded up my entrance into him. He began to moan, and I had to shut him
up, so I started kissing him and letting my hands press into his throat and
I played with his hair. He began to move against me, and I could feel his
cock harden, and then he began to cum as his ass clamped around my cock. I
sprayed his insides with about seven shots of cum. I lay on top of him,
and I could feel his cum move into my chest hair. We lay there for a few
minutes, and then I started to move off of him, but his cum had plastered
my chest hair to him, and as I moved it began to pull my chest hair. I
finally got up from him feeling like a few of my chest hairs were now his.

He rolled over on his side and said "Well now I guess you do know how to
poke me, and poke me good. I needed that Pops." I looked over at him and
said "Well evidently I did too, but I was not expecting to do that
tonight." He said "Well Pops you have to get it when it is offered. I am
planning on getting yours one night this week." I told him that we had to
be careful as I could not risk Ryan walking in on us. He said "Ryan knows
you have the hots for me. I think Jay has told him."

I lay there and started thinking back to some of the comments that Ryan had
made while we were at mom and dad's. I knew then that I had to have a
special father - son talk with him and soon.

End of Chapter 10

Well I figured that Shane was going to make sure that he nailed Doug first.
I did not see it going this way but I guess you never know what will happen
when you have a hard dick taking control. We shall have to see how Doug
addresses his relationship with Ryan. Will Ryan be accepting or will he
decide to try to make a play for his dad?

I cannot tell you how much your comments mean to me as you write about this
story. I am amazed at how many of you continue to promote a relationship
between Doug and Shane but there is a small movement that wants to see
something happen between Doug and Matt. Your thoughts, desires, and
concerns are respected and do have some influence, but understand that the
characters have taken on a life for themselves and they pretty much have
free reign.
