Chapter 45 - My Son and His Friends

I can say that being met by Jay and Rob was a blessing. It did not take
long to unload the Denali. I had Ryan put the bag of dirty clothes in the
laundry room while Myles, Rob, and Jay grabbed our luggage and took it to
our rooms. I grabbed the cooler and the basket of snacks and stored them
in the house. Rob and Jay wanted Myles and Ryan to go to the park with
them for a game of basketball. I thought about it for a minute, and I said
"Go, but be back here before it gets dark." They were out of the house in
a flash. I knew that giving them the opportunity to burn some of the pent
up energy would be good for all of us. I walked into the laundry room and
began to sort the clothes into piles. As I went through the dirty clothes
bag, I was amazed at how many clothes Ryan, Myles, Phil, and I had worn in
the days that we were in New Port Richey. I just hoped that Phil had kept
enough to wear down there, but then, I knew that if he hadn't, he had a
credit card, and he could purchase a few more. I started the wash and
walked into the kitchen to begin a grocery list for the upcoming week. I
worked between writing the grocery list and cleaning my office as I washed,
dried, and folded the clothes. I looked outside, and it was beginning to
get dark and then, I heard the front door open, close and Ryan calling my
name. I yelled that I was in my office. In a few minutes, he and Myles
appeared at the doorway and wanted to know what were we going to eat. I
had to chuckle as it now seemed that they were constantly hungry. I told
Ryan to check the laundry room, finish up the load in the dryer, and then,
we would go out to eat after I finished cleaning my office desk.

Myles went to the utility room and brought me another trash bag. He
started filling it with stuff that I had put in the throw-away pile. Ryan
yelled that he was finished with the clothes, so Myles and I stopped what
we were doing and joined Ryan in the kitchen. We loaded up and decided to
go to Red Lobster. We ordered our drinks and also an order of coconut
shrimp as an appetizer. After studying the menu: Myles chose the Shrimp
Linguini Alfredo; Ryan chose the Garlic grilled shrimp and I decided on the
Seaside Shrimp Trio. Ryan and I chose a salad and a baked potato as our
sides. Myles' selection did not allow him a side. Myles told me that his
mom would have Sunday and Monday off, and she wanted to know if I would let
Ryan spend Saturday night at their house. I told him that I would have to
see as his Granddaddy was coming to visit and Phil was coming home. He
said "Well, think it over, because I sure would like for him to spend the
night with me at my house for a change." I smiled, and we began to eat the
food that had been placed in front of us. We had a good time at Red
Lobster and soon, we were finished with our meal. We opted to forego
dessert so we headed back to the house. After we got home, I hurried the
boys off to bed as I had a lot to do tomorrow (Friday) and I needed to get
an early start.

I woke up early on Friday morning, showered, dressed and cooked breakfast
for me, Ryan, and Myles. I walked down to Ryan's room, knocked on the door
and called them to come to breakfast. Ryan mumbled something. I called
him to breakfast again with a firmer voice. I heard him get out of bed and
he opened his door and headed to the bathroom for a shower. I looked in
the room and Myles was still asleep. I shook the bed; he woke up, and
stumbled out of bed. As soon as they had showered and dressed, they joined
me in the kitchen. We ate breakfast, and I told them everything that I had
to do before Phil and Dad arrived tomorrow. I asked them to work on the
pool and clean the area around the pool while I cleaned the house, and
readied the guest bedroom for Dad.

Ryan began to brush the pool down and turned on the filter while Myles
moved the patio furniture around and cleaned it with 409. Ryan told me
that the pool was not bad, but that it needed to filter for a while. He
helped Myles move the furniture around and they decided to reposition
several pieces away from the pool but just under the lanai. I began in the
guest room by stripping the bed, washing the bed linens; dusted and oiled
the furniture, remade the bed, vacuumed the floor, and loaded the closet
with empty hangers. I walked into Ryan's bathroom and almost had a stroke.
I called Ryan in from the pool area and explained that his bathroom had to
be spotless as he and Dad would be sharing it for the next few days. He
made a face and tried to negotiate a deal with me so that he would do
something else while I cleaned his bathroom. I stuck to my guns and soon,
he had it cleaned and stocked to my satisfaction. I cleaned and vacuumed
the rest of the house. Michelle called wanting Myles to come home so he
headed home. I took a quick inventory of the foods in the pantry, freezer,
and refrigerator and made a list of items that I needed to purchase when I
visited the grocery store. Ryan and I worked steady that morning and by
noon, we had most of the items on the to-do list done. I looked at him and
said "Ryan, I don't want to cook right now, so let's go out to eat and
then, you can go with me to the grocery store." He hesitated, and I
thought he was going to decline, but he said "Dad, I will go with you to
the grocery store and then, help you unload and store the stuff, but I need
for you to go with me to Target as I need some new shorts and colored t-
shirts." I said "Deal." We headed out to our favorite Mexican restaurant.
We were served chips and salsa while our drink order was taken. Our drinks
were brought to the table and we each ordered burrito supremos. We munched
on the chips and salsa and drank our drinks until our food was served. We
ate and talked about Dad's upcoming visit. I asked Ryan if he wanted to
spend the night with Myles and go with them to Wild Adventures. He said
that he wanted to go, but he didn't want to be rude to his Granddad. I
told him that his Granddad would understand and that he could spend some
time with him on Saturday afternoon before going to Myles' house. He
seemed relieved to have my thoughts on the issue. We finished our lunch
and headed to the grocery store and made a full basket full of items. We
took them to the Denali, loaded up and headed home. We unloaded the
groceries, stored them and then, headed to Target to look at shorts and
colored t-shirts.

As we were parking at Target, my phone rang, and it was Phil. He told me
that he had just sent one of his work crews to the house to cut the grass,
trim the shrubs, and do any type of yard work that needed to be done. I
started to object, but he told me that it would be waste of my breath. I
thanked him, and he wanted to know what we were doing, so I told him that
we were about to shop for Ryan some summer clothes. He said "Now that
sounds like fun, maybe I need to do the same thing. What do you think?" I
said "I will look and see what I can find for you." Phil finished the call
with a brief update on his family and then, Ryan and I got out and went
inside.

We entered the store and walked to the boys/young men's section. We looked
at several styles of shorts and I had to comment that I just didn't see
shorts in those shorts. Heck, they were almost down to their ankles.
Finally, we found a style that met our definition of shorts and we matched
them up with several colored t-shirts and polos. After we finished in that
section, we walked over to the men's section and I found several pairs of
shorts and shirts for me and Phil. We wandered around the store, and I
bought a couple of novels, several bags of salty and sweet snacks, two
cases of Coca Cola and Sprite, five fishing rods, a tackle box, hooks,
sinkers, and other items that Dad and the boys would use on a fishing
outing. Phil had talked to one of his workers who owned a fish pond and he
had given us an invitation to go there while Dad was visiting. We finished
our shopping, checked out, and headed home. As we were driving into the
driveway, I asked Ryan to store the fishing stuff in the garage so that it
would be easy to find. I took the other stuff into the house and stored
it.

Ryan walked out and checked on the pool. He called me and said "Dad, you
need to come see this." I walked out to the pool, but Ryan was pointing to
the backyard. I walked into the yard and was amazed at how Phil's crew had
transformed it in just a short amount of time. Not only were the hedges
trimmed and the grass cut, but the flower beds had been planted with
blooming annuals and there were hanging baskets hung in the area around the
outdoor swing. The yard looked fabulous, and I knew it would impress Dad.
I walked back to the pool and talked with Ryan. I decided to take a water
sample to the pool supply store and have them give me some help. Ryan
found the sample bottle, dipped it in the pool, and gathered a water sample
for analysis. We drove to the pool store and had it analyzed. We were
told to add a variety of chemicals and some chlorine. We finished at the
pool store, returned home, performed what we were told to do and then, we
relaxed in the family room.

In a few minutes, Myles called and invited us to their house for dinner. I
agreed as Michelle is an outstanding cook when she has time to plan a meal.
We decided to walk down to Myles' house. We went to the front door, and
Ryan walked in without knocking. I stopped at the door and he turned
around and said "Dad, this is like my second home, and we don't knock on
the door as Ms. Michelle is busy cooking." I entered and followed him to
the kitchen. He was right. Michelle was busy putting the food that she
had cooked on the dining room table. I asked if I could help and she told
me to fill the glasses with ice and to pour the sweet tea. I started that
and as I finished, she said that it was time to be seated. We all sat down
at the table and Michelle asked Myles to say grace. He did a short, but
thoughtful prayer. We began to pass the dishes around the table and to put
food on our plates. She had cooked a roast with gravy, made mashed
potatoes, steamed broccoli, a squash casserole, and crescent rolls. We
enjoyed our meal and the fellowship of good friends. When we finished our
meal, Michele served each of us a dish of chocolate pudding. We sat around
the table and continued to talk about the upcoming weekend with their trip
to Wild Adventures, Phil's return, and Dad's visit. Finally, we were
silent. Michelle said "Well I take that as a signal that it is time for me
to clean-up the kitchen and the dining table. Myles said "No, Mom, Ryan
and I will clean up while you and Pops go into the living room and relax."
Michelle looked at me and said "Well now, that is a deal that I won't
refuse." We got up from the table and walked into the living room, sat
down and discussed Ryan and Myles' upcoming birthdays. I asked her if she
wanted me to host Myles' at my house, and she finally said "That would be
nice, as you have the pool and I don't." I said "Let's do it the same way
that we did last year. I will call my contact and see if she can bake the
cakes." By the time that Ryan and Myles joined us, we had the two events
planned and we knew what we had to do in the coming weeks. Myles pulled
the Monopoly game out and insisted that we all gather around their square
coffee table and play the game. It has been a long time since I have
played a board game, but this was fun however, Myles acquired more property
than either Michelle or I. Around midnight, we finished the game and
headed home.

We walked into the house and went to our rooms. I stripped and crawled
into bed. I lay there and tried to sleep but I couldn't. I grabbed Phil's
pillows and laid them down by my side. I lay on my side facing the
pillows, hugged one close to my chest. It felt so good to have something
pressed up to me, and I thought 'this time tomorrow, I will have Phil in
bed with me and I can love him like I want.' This seemed to work for me,
and in a few minutes, I drifted off to sleep.

I awakened the next morning later than normal. I lay there and listened.
It was extremely quiet in the house. I thought about spending some more
time in bed, but I told myself that I really wanted to do that when I had
Phil in bed with me. I lay there with images of our reunion playing out in
my head. I finally got out of bed, and took care of my morning rituals. I
walked into the family room and turned the TV on. I lay on the sofa and
watched the cartoon channel. I looked into the kitchen and decided that I
did not want to cook this morning, so I walked down to Ryan's room, knocked
on his door, woke him up, urged him to shower and get dressed. He opened
his door and looked at me. He was still sleepy and it was a funny sight.
I laughed and he got peeved at me. I told him that we were going out for
breakfast and that seemed to make things all right. He said he would be
ready in a few. I went back to the family room and watched some more
cartoons. Finally, about forty minutes later, he joined me. He was
complaining because he could not get his hair styled like he wanted it. I
laughed and asked if we needed to have it cut, he thought about it for a
few minutes, and agreed that it could be cut shorter. We walked out to the
garage, backed out and headed to our favorite breakfast shoppe.

We entered and found a seat in one of the booths. We were lucky as the
waitress told us that they had really been busy that morning. We ordered
our drinks and breakfast. We looked at one another, and I asked Ryan if he
wanted to get his hair cut this morning. He said that he did, so I told
him that we could do that as soon as we finished breakfast. We sat and
talked about this, that and the other. I looked up and there was a line at
the doorway waiting to be seated. I nodded at Ryan and said "I think we
timed this right, look at how many people are waiting to be seated." He
turned and looked and then, he said "Yep, and it's a good thing that we
don't have the crew with us or we would never have been seated this
morning."

Our waitress brought our food and placed it before us. We dug in and the
food was excellent. I love waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, and grits.
Ryan ordered what I had plus and order of hash-browns with onions and
cheese. We finished breakfast, paid our bill and headed out to the Denali.
I looked at the clock, and it was now 9:45 so, I drove to our hair
stylist's business and parked. We entered, and she greeted us. I told her
that we just really needed a cut and touch- up. She told me that we had
come at the right time because after ten thirty, she would be booked solid.
Ryan went first, and then, I followed. She did a great job getting our
hair cut and styled.

We drove back home, and soon, the house was full of boys. They checked the
pool out and decided to spend some time in it. They stripped and jumped
into the water. I listened to them from the living room as they challenged
one another and held all kinds of contests. I smiled, lay back on the
sofa. I picked up my phone and called Phil. He answered and told me that
he was running behind, but would be leaving his mom's in about fifteen
minutes. I did my calculations and figured that he would be here by six
o'clock that afternoon. I then called Dad. He was on his way and said he
was probably about three hours out from my house. I lay back and fell
asleep with the boys in the background. I guess knowing that both Phil and
Dad were on their way relaxed me, and I was sure enjoying my rest when -
"What the Hell?"

My face and chest were wet! Oh yeah, you guessed it. Jay had brought some
pool water in and drenched my chest and sprinkled my face with it. I
jumped up, pulling off my wet shirt and looking around for the cause. I
heard laughter and there was Jay. He thought it was funny. I just looked
at him. He was standing there naked with a semi-hard cock. I have to tell
you that this boy is filling out, and he was going to have an enviable
package in about two more years. I lunged for him, but he ran back and
jumped into the pool. He taunted me, and the rest of the boys joined in
wanting me to join them in the pool. I told them that I would sit outside
with them, so I walked over and l sat down in one of the chaises out of the
sun.

As I sat there my mind drifted to the evening's meal. I was going to have
New York Strips, baked potatoes, a salad, rolls and we would cut the cake
that Dad was bringing. I got up and walked to the kitchen, placed six eggs
in a pot of water and started them boiling. I opened a new large bottle of
Thousand Island dressing and thinned it by adding some additional vinegar.
After I finished doing those two things, I pulled my fancy salad bowl out
of the cabinet, began to layer it with lettuce, fresh local acidic grape
tomatoes, a sliced slivered sweet onion, the finely chopped boiled eggs,
the thinned Thousand Island dressing, and a lot of mild fine shredded
cheese on top. I placed the salad in the refrigerator to marinate, pulled
the steaks out, seasoned them, prepared the potatoes by oiling them with
olive oil, sprinkled on some kosher salt, and wrapped them in aluminum
foil. I decided that I had done everything that I could do at this time,
so I returned to watch the boys in the pool. I glanced at my watch and
thought that it was getting close to time for Dad to arrive. I told the
boys that they probably needed to get dressed. They moaned and groaned,
but that was short lived when Ryan said that his Granddad was on the way.
They scrambled out, dried off, and dressed. Jay and Rob went to their
homes while Myles stayed to see my Dad.

In about fifteen minutes, Dad arrived and rang the front doorbell. Ryan
and Myles ran to the door, opened it and invited him into the house. They
joined me in the family room as I was on my way to the laundry room when he
rang the doorbell. I didn't want to greet him with wet towels in my hands.
I returned from the laundry room and he walked over and hugged me tightly.
This was not like my Dad. He was not a hugger, but he wasn't a cold fish
either. In the past, he might give you a quick hug, but nothing like
today's hug. He released me and pulled back. I looked into his eyes, and
they were moist. He handled himself and said "Boy, I am tired from that
drive; it's a little longer than I remembered and driving against the sun
was not fun." Maybe that accounted for the eyes, but things just did not
seem right. Dad said "Doug, we need to get my stuff out of the car, and we
definitely need to get your cake out as I don't want it melting all over
the place." Everybody walked out and helped Dad bring his stuff into the
house. I made sure that I took care of the cake. I took it out of the box
and placed it on the cake plate so that it could cool and show its beauty.

We returned to the family room and sat down. Dad talked to both Ryan and
Myles and asked about their summer plans and how had things been going.
The boys kept Dad entertained so I just sat back and listened. Later, when
the conversation took a lull, I said "Dad, Ryan has been invited to spend
the night with Myles tonight, and to go to Wild Adventures tomorrow. Is
that a problem for you?" He looked over at the boys and said "Boys, I am
going to be here for about a week, and we will find places to go together,
if I was you, I would definitely want to go to Wild Adventures, so go, and
don't give it a second thought." They smiled at me and thanked him. Myles
said "G-Pa, I have to go home now, but I will see you while you are here
and I just want to say that it is nice that you have made me feel like a
part of your family." Myles left and Dad looked at Ryan. He said "I
thought you were going with him." Ryan looked back at Dad with a serious
look and said "Not when we are having steaks!" Dad chuckled and said "Said
just like my son, he is definitely your child Doug!" We continued to talk,
and Ryan shared some pictures of the guys with Dad. I walked outside, lit
the grill and placed the potatoes on the grate to cook.

As I was walking back to the kitchen, there was a knock at the
utility/garage door. I knew that the garage door was closed, so it could
only mean that Phil had made good time and was home. I almost ran to the
door, but didn't. I walked fast and opened it. There stood Phil with this
big grin on his face, and some flowers in his hands. I looked at the
flowers and then, at him and began to laugh. I said "Oh you shouldn't
have, you know you are gonna get what you want without flowers!" It was
his turn to laugh, and he grabbed me and hugged me. I stepped back and
allowed him to enter. He placed the flowers on the counter in the kitchen,
and we walked into the family room. I introduced Dad to Phil, and Phil to
Dad. It was a little awkward for me to find the words so I just said "This
is Phil, Dad, you have heard me talk a lot about him." Everybody sat down
and tried to resume a conversation. Dad asked Phil about how his Mom and
family were doing. Phil said that they were adjusting and that he had
charged Brandon, his brother, with doing a few things around his mom's
house because he had to come home and take charge of his business. Dad
asked about what type of business, even though I had told him several times
about Phil's landscaping business. Phil started talking, and he and dad
interacted while I placed the flowers in a vase, placed it on the table and
set things up in the dining room.

I apologized for interrupting Dad and Phil, but I told Phil that I needed
him to start the steaks. Phil joined me in the kitchen, and as he was
getting the steaks, he leaned over to me and said "He is not the hard-nose
that you painted him to be." I said "No, Dad isn't unless Mom forces him
to be, but there is something different this time, and I can't put my
finger on it." Phil said "Doug, you try to make something out of nothing,
just sit back, relax and enjoy his visit. I have enjoyed talking to him."
I said "Great, we will spend more time with him tonight after Ryan goes to
Myles's house." Phil tended to the steaks while I carried the dishes,
butter and sour cream to the table and warmed the rolls for our dinner.
Phil yelled that the steaks were almost ready, so I told Ryan to place ice
in the glasses and pour the tea. I placed the salad and salad tongs on the
table along with the rolls. Phil brought the steaks and potatoes in and I
called Dad to the table.

We sat down and Ryan said the blessing. Dad said "Amen." We ate our meal,
talked, and fellowshipped. Dad said "Phil, now I am going to share a
little tidbit with you." Phil looked up with a puzzled look on his face.
Dad said "If you want to get Doug's attention, get an Italian Cream Cake
because he will do almost anything for one." Phil looked across the table
and raised his eyebrows up and down at me. I know I turned about 50 shades
of red. Dad either didn't notice or ignored it. We finished our meal
after I had served everyone a slice of the Italian Cream Cake. Phil said
"After having that slice of cake, I can understand where Doug is coming
from, that is one great tasting cake." Dad said "It is, and most of the
cakes that come from Mr. Eddie's restaurant are always good."

Ryan asked if he could be excused to go to Myles' house. I called him over
to me and asked him if he had his weekend bag packed? He said that he did,
so I gave him eighty dollars to spend at Wild Adventures. He hugged my
neck, and said his goodbyes to his Grandfather and Phil. After he left,
Phil took our plates and cutlery to the sink and began to rinse them off
before placing them in the dishwasher while I stored the salad, butter, and
the sour cream in the refrigerator. Dad asked about the top to the cake
plate, and I found it in the cabinet, gave it to him, and he placed it over
the cake. I wiped the placemats and the table while Dad grabbed the
glasses and took them to Phil. Soon we had the dining room table cleared,
the kitchen clean, and the dishwasher operating. We all settled into the
family room with Dad on the loveseat and me and Phil on the sofa. I had
missed Phil so much that I didn't think anything about it, and I lay down
with my head in Phil's lap. Phil thumped me on my neck, and I sat up
quickly. He nodded towards my Dad. Again, I turned red, and said "Dad,
there seems to be an elephant in the room and I need to acknowledge him."
Dad looked up with a puzzled look on his face. Phil poked me in the ribs
with his elbow. I looked at Phil and said "Dad, I told you when we were in
the mountains at Christmas that Phil was much more than a friend to me and
well, since you are here, you need to know that we are a couple, we enjoy
each other in all ways especially those usually associated with being
married." Dad looked over and said "Doug, I understood that months ago and
frankly son, that's more than my imagination needs to know. Understand
that I am not your mother, and I realize that this is your home." He then
turned and looked at Phil and said "Phil, you have been good for Doug, and
I hope to get to know you better on this trip." I turned and looked at
Phil. He gave me that oh yeah it's cool right now, but you will pay later
look. I laid my head in his lap and we continued to talk until Dad said
that he needed to go to his room as the trip had really made him tired and
he was ready to try to sleep. We said our good nights and headed our
separate ways.

Phil and I walked into our room, and I closed the door. Phil walked into
the bathroom, stripped and stepped into the shower. I joined him in a few
minutes. We took a quick shower, dried off, walked back into the bedroom
and got in bed. I snuggled up close to Phil and he said "Doug, I cannot
believe what you did awhile ago. You embarrassed me, and you embarrassed
your dad." I said "Phil, it was hanging in the air, and I just got it out
of the way, I think Dad will be okay with things, but right now, let's make
up for lost time."

I leaned over and kissed Phil and let my hands roam through his hair. He
resisted for a few minutes as he was still a little peeved at me, but
finally, I felt his cock rise so I knew that I was no longer in trouble. I
kissed his lips lightly and then did the same to his ears, his neck, his
cheeks, his forehead, and back to his lips for a longer more passionate
kiss. Phil grabbed me and hugged me to him before he pushed me over and
became the top. Phil replicated my previous moves. We spent a lot of time
kissing and exploring each other's bodies. For me, it felt like the first
time that I had been with Phil and explored his sexy body. I pushed Phil
back onto his back and I moved down to his belly button and began to kiss
and lick around it. I could feel his rock hard cock against my chest and
it was leaking pre-cum. I kissed downward and through his trimmed pubes to
the base of the underside of his cock. I opened my mouth and flattened my
tongue and ran it from the base to the tip of his cock. I could taste some
of the pre-cum that had leaked onto his underside, but right now I knew
that he was leaking on his abs and down the topside of his cock so I opened
my mouth farther and began to lick the head of his cock like ice cream in a
cone. Phil has the sweetest pre-cum, much more sweeter than mine, and I
cannot get enough of it. I slipped down on his cock until I had the entire
thing in my mouth. I began to bob up and down and it while feeling and
playing with his balls. Phil was enjoying and reacting to my efforts.
After a few minutes, he grabbed me under my arms and pulled me to his face
for some more serious kissing and then, he rolled me onto my back and lay
between my legs. He pulled my head up by placing his hands behind my head
and he seriously game me some tongue action. My legs just seemed to
automatically raise themselves around his hips. Phil raised up a little
and allowed his cock to spread his precum around my hole. He began to make
some small stabbing moves. I wanted him so bad that I tried to force
myself onto his cock, but it wasn't happening that fast. Phil stopped and
said "Doug, let me take care of this, you just lay there and enjoy." I
thought, if only you knew how much I want and need you right now, you would
force this to happen, but Phil continued to do things his way. Eventually,
he had me lubed with his pre-cum and he entered me slowly, but fully. We
rocked back and forth and finally I felt him into me up to the pubes. I
can only tell you that his entry into me was what I needed, but his
massaging my prostate or should I say his relentless attack on my prostate
was like fireworks for me. I moaned and talked dirty to him. He continued
to plow me, and I enjoyed it. Finally, he began to speed up and I knew
that he was close so I helped him by pinching his nipples and grabbing onto
his firm ass cheeks. Phil pounded into me and I could feel him unload his
cum into me. Afterwards, we lay there, kissed and talked softly to one
another. As we were laying there, I felt Phil soften and his cock began to
slide out of me. He rolled over onto his back and I snuggled up to him and
we drifted off to sleep as I was satisfied and had my man back with me.

The next morning came faster than I would have liked, but I have learned
over the years that I have no control over time. I lay there and enjoyed
the feel of Phil pressed up against me along with his "smell". I had known
that I had missed him, but now I knew just how much. I knew that I loved
him weeks ago, but now, I knew that I really loved him. He began to stir
and finally opened his eyes. He leaned over and kissed me. I heard
movement in the house and that could only mean that Dad was awake and up.
Phil said "Doug, it is time for morning showers and then, we have to face
the day. I want to visit the jobsites this morning and it might be a good
thing if you and your dad joined me." I wanted Dad to see Phil's work
sites and I also wanted to show him what I had learned and done for Phil
while he was caring for his Dad and family.

We got out of bed, took care of our morning rituals and dressed in shorts,
polos, and our deck shoes. We joined Dad in the family room. Dad asked me
if he needed to cook, and I told him that we were going out for breakfast.
He began to protest, but Phil explained that we would eat and then, make a
tour of some of his worksites. Dad was intrigued.

We walked out to Phil's truck and had to move some things around as Phil
had not really unloaded the truck so his luggage and dirty clothes had to
be put in the house. Once we had the truck unloaded, and his things in the
house, we got in and Phil drove to the Waffle House. Phil and I ordered
Coca-Colas while Dad ordered his first of several cups of coffee. We each
placed our orders of bacon, grits, scrambled eggs, and toast. I ordered a
large order of hash- browns, scattered, smothered and covered for us to
share. We ate our breakfast and Phil told Dad about some of the sites that
we would visit. I could tell that Dad definitely wanted to see Phil's
work.

We finished and argued as to who was going to pay the bill, but eventually
Dad won. We walked outside, and we could tell that it was going to be a
hot day even though it in the early part of June. We got in the truck and
Phil made a few stops at several of the smaller projects. He checked the
leveling of the land, the mix of soils, the laying of the irrigation
system, the tie- in to the water system or well, and he spent a lot of time
looking at the choice and planting of the shrubs, perennials, annuals
around the yards and the laying of the sod. Finally, Phil drove us to the
huge housing development that he had bid on and won. He pointed out where
it began and where it ended explaining that the entire project would be
done in five phases. We walked parts of the first phase as work had just
begun to clear the land and the roadways were still in rough form. Dad
asked a lot of questions about how could you envision houses, streets, the
entrance and the various forms of landscaping at this point of development.
Phil took his time and explained to Dad about his degree and the abilities
that he had developed using computers along with his experience.

We loaded back into the truck and headed home after about a tour of five
hours. We got home and walked into the house. Phil called Dad out back
and showed him how he had installed my water fountain, outside swing,
outdoor lighting, and other things in the backyard. Dad was impressed. He
turned to me and said "Doug, I think you have a talented young man here. I
am truly impressed with what I have seen and heard." Phil smiled and I
felt like shouting. We walked back into the house. Phil pulled some of
the architectural drawings showing the outlay of the development and shared
them with Dad. I just sat back and watched Phil talk to Dad and listened
to Dad's questions. I could see that Dad was really absorbing everything
that Phil was telling him.

Finally, Phil looked at me and said "Doug, I hate to tell you but breakfast
has about left me and my stomach is now telling me that it is supper time."
I smiled, got up and headed to the kitchen. I pulled some ground beef and
ground chuck out of the refrigerator and blended it together, added some
chopped onion, celery, salt, pepper, ketchup, oats, and made a quick and
simple meatloaf. I placed it in a pan and began to cook it in the oven. I
peeled several potatoes, chopped them up, placed them in a pot of water and
started them to boil while Phil and Dad continued to look through the
development's plans. I opened a can of LeSeur Baby English Peas, poured
them into a pot and seasoned them with butter, salt and pepper. I opened a
can of beef gravy and warmed it up on the stove. I spent some time
drifting back to where Dad and Phil were and then, back to the kitchen.
After about an hour, the meatloaf was finished. I pulled it out of the
oven and allowed it to set for a few minutes, while I drained the potatoes,
added some butter and sour cream and whipped them into mashed potatoes. I
dished up the peas and called Phil and Dad to the island for supper. Phil
iced the glasses and poured the tea. It was a fast and simple, yet
delicious meal. Dad insisted on cleaning the kitchen using the excuse that
he had to keep in practice, or he would have hell to pay from mom when she
returned.

Phil and I adjourned to the family room and talked. Phil was much more
comfortable around Dad and allowed me to lay my head in his lap without
protest. In fact, he began to massage my chest and play with my chest hair
though the opening of my polo. Dad joined us after finishing in the
kitchen, and we watched a movie. Midway through the movie my phone rang
and it was Ryan checking in and wanting to know what we had been doing. I
gave him a report, and he told me everything that they had done at Wild
Adventures and that they had attended a concert with one of my favorite
groups. I was jealous, but so happy for him. He told me that they would
tour the animal section and the water park tomorrow and then, come home on
Tuesday. I encouraged him to have a good time, and I asked if he was
spending his money wisely. He laughed and said "Of course, Dad." I
laughed, and we finished our call.

After completing the call, I brought Dad and Phil up to date with his
adventures. Phil told me that he had a lot to do on Monday so he was about
ready to call it a night. Dad agreed with him, so we all headed to our
rooms. Phil and I stripped, showered, and got in bed. We did play around
a little, but did not get into anything heavy as we were both tired and
thinking of things that we had to do on Monday.

END OF CHAPTER 45 - My Son and His Friends

Well, I hope you are getting a feel for Doug's Dad. I can't wait to see
what else they do on this visit, but I don't think that Dad is as
conservative as Doug thinks. In the meantime, Ryan and Myles have upcoming
birthdays so parties have to be planned and staged. Summer is passing and
there is yet a lot to happen before everyone returns to school in August.

Sorry for the delay but it takes time to lay this story out and to find
time to write uninterrupted. Thanks to all who have written to find out if
I was still alive and to check on the status of Chapter 45. I have been
busy with a variety of issues and there were days that as much as I wanted
to write, my brain just would not cooperate.

I hope that you have a great upcoming weekend and I look forward to your
comments and questions.
