"When are they gonna get here, dad?" Jase badgered his dad for the second
time, vs. Zack's three.

"Hold your horses," Erik replies. "I think I see Jalan's car up the road."
Taller than the boys, he stretched his head to the far side of the screen
door, but without notice it flew open.

"They're here!" Zack called out the obvious, the dark blue van pulling up.

The side door sliding open, Patrick was the first out. "Is this `your'
house?" he said, gawking at the size."

Next out, seven year old Travis sums it up, "It's a manshin!"

The oldest, Declan, at twelve years old is astounded, saying, "How many
people can you fit in there?" Then delayed, "Where's the pool?"

"Right now it's me, my dad, Jase, our uncles, Nick and Gef, and two other
guys, but there's lots more rooms."

And goofing, forgetting he had to ask first, Jase says, "Enough so you guys
can come and stay anytime!"

"Really?" ten year old Patrick says.

Spotting somebody else, Declan asks, "Is this your other brother?"

"We almost forgot!" Zack calls out. And pushing Manuel to the front of the
crowd, he becomes introduced.

"Want to go swimming?" Jase asks, which sends the six inside.

"Where'd everybody go?" Erik asks Jalan, when quiet sets in.

With the boys around it was tough to mention, but Jalan reveals, "I had a
`very' good time last night Erik."

"You're not the only one," Erik replies as his torso presses Jalan up
against the side of the van.

"I hope we can do it again sometime?"

As their crotches start kicking in, "And more often?"

There is enough room for Jalan to fit his arms around Erik, but for Erik
there's none, so he places both palms on the side of the car and leans in
for a sweet kiss, like doing an incline pushup.

"Dad!"

"What?" Erik breaks off all affection and turns around.

Zack says, "You gotta cut out all that mushy stuff. Nick says we can't go
in the pool till you and Jalan come and be lifeguards!"

"Be there in a minute."

"You gotta hurry dad! Us guys are waiting!"

"I suppose we should not keep the boys waiting!" Jalan says.

Jalan mimics something along the lines in which somebody, like Shakira,
would shake their booty, as Erik follows in hot pursuit.

"So, what's good on the menu, Dario?"

"Forget the menu," he says when he sees Ricardo Cavatelli approaching in
the distance.

"How are you gentlemen?"

"I'm doing fine and you, Ricardo?"

Known for throwing around some lewd humor, Dario thought he better say
something before Ricardo said something about the time he met him behind
the club one night.

"Ricardo, this here is my boyfriend, Shane Duffy."

It worked. Keeping his cool, Ricardo made out like nothing happened between
himself and Dario.

On the other hand, Shane was thinking, `Boy does this guy move fast!' Yet,
he also had on his mind he liked the idea of the `boyfriend' bit!

"Are you from around here?" Ricardo kicked up conversation.

Seeming to head in Ricardo's favor, Dario says, "Um, did you catch the word
`boyfriend', Ricardo?"

"I didn't mean anything, Dario," Ricardo tried getting out of his remark,
similar to a little, whiny boy.

Intently, Dario flung open the three-fold plastic menu and orders, "We'll
have a cheese pizza with everything on it."

"Everything?"

Quickly folding it up, he bashes Ricardo on the chest with it.

First Ricardo laughed, Shane following.

Dario scolds him, "Just get your brother going on the pizza, Ricardo?"

"Reminds me of my cousin," Shane mentions.

"Oh? And what cousin would this be?"

"Keirnan. My father's brother's son. He's um," and even though it seemed
out in the open, via Ricardo's and Dario's ruckus about such a risky
subject, Shane whispers, "gay too."

"Is he as cute as you?"

"Nah, probably not!"

After brief laughter, Dario probes, "So what about Kiernan?"

"Oh, Kiernan would be the perfect match for Ricardo. He would be ten miles
ahead of him. He would drive Ricardo crazy!"

"Sounds interesting," Dario replies. And in all sincerity, "Um, where is
Kiernan right now?"

"Ireland."

"Oh," Dario said with a downer in his voice.

"He wants to come here and attend college though. I've told him about
Goldwater Creek Community College. He said he was up for it."

"But there are so many colleges. Why Goldwater Creek?"

Shane replies, "Kiernan and me, we're the same age, grew up together. I
guess you can say we're kind of close."

"Oh? How close?"

He picks his straw up and throws it at Dario saying, "You're as bad as
Ricardo!" Attached is a smile.

"Sorry. I thought, umm..."

"I know what you `thought'!"

They both had a good laugh off of it.

Laughter slacking off, Shane tells Dario, "Hey, there's a guy who looks
just like you and another guy with him. I think they're checking us out!"

"Oh boy," Dario says, peering over the top of the booth wall.

"I don't know if I can take it," Shane says.

"Take what?"

"Two hunks at once?"

"You're not going to like find us in the same bed," he tells Shane.

But as he gets up to greet Terron and Jay, in his mind he is already
tossing around whether he should mention the three-way fun they have had
between the sheets. For now Dario sticks to introductions and inviting Jay
and his bro to sit with them.

"I told Terron this might not be a good idea," Jay tells Dario as he sits
next to him.

"Hey, what's your favorite baseball player?" Terron asks Shane.

"Now don't go bugging Shane, Terr."

"He's not bugging me," Shane replies. "Tell you the truth, I don't really
follow baseball. You?"

"Me neither. Hey, who's your favorite singer?"

"I like Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Maroon 5...."

"Oh cool! Hear that Dare?" And then towards Shane, "We like Maroon 5
too. Once we saw Adam Levine without a shirt on and Dario said he was
hot. Do you think he's hot too?"

"Um, Terron?"

Not meant to defy Dario's wishes for Terron putting the rush of questioning
to him, Shane replies, "I think Adam's kind of hot." And then to stir up
other conversation, Shane wisely chooses, "How about you Jay?"

"Me? What about me?"

Totally off topic he chooses, "So where did you and Terron meet?"

Before Jay can get it out, Dario puts his hand on Jay's shoulder and tells,
"Jay here is a Christian boy. He and Terron go to the same church."

"That's where we met!" Terron informs, a cheery disposition returning.

"I see." And then in all seriousness, Shane asks, "'Church' you say. Just
how do they regard the gay issues?"

Nobody could put it any plainer than Terron, "I'm gay. Jay's gay and
everybody knows we're a gay couple. Oh wait! Last night I claimed Jay, so
now we're partners!"

"Congratulations," Shane offers his hand.

"Thanks. When we get things settled Jay and me are going to say our vows in
church and they don't care if it's two guys or two women. Our church is
cool with gay people. And there's other gay pairs and even teenagers that
are gay. Are you and Dare going to come?"

He was overly convinced of the gay issue, but not sure about him and
Dario. Yet, Dario had already coined them `boyfriends' and it sat well with
him. So, in response to Terron's question he comfortably replies,
"Sure. I'd like to go sometime."

And monopolizing the conversation, Terron says, "And the church is going to
have a camping trip. Wanna come?"

"Camping, huh?" Shane said with a little doubt.

"Terron, it's not nice to put people on the spot. Give Shane a chance to
think about it."

"Okay. You can think about it Shane." And before it sets in, Terron is
asking, "Hey I got an idea! Why don't you come to church tomorrow and give
us your answer?"

"Church? Well, um..."

"Terron," Dario belabors the point, "You're putting Shane on the spot
again?"

But being aggressive at such things, Jay says, "Why don't you think about
coming to church tomorrow even if you haven't an answer about the camping
trip?" After nudging Dario in the ribs with his elbow, "And bring this
heathen with you!"

The afternoon seemed to fly by, food being devoured, Erik and Jalan having
a few beers, sitting around, sometimes one with an arm around the other's
shoulder. Somewhere along the passing hours one of the kids pushed David
Chinnery in the pool and soon all of Nick's friends from cooking school
were in their `wet' suits.

Not exactly drunk, but feeling no pain, Jalan says to Erik, "Nice bit of
eye candy, eh?"

"Mmm, especially Jake?"

"Jake now, he is which one?"

With getting soaked and it being all guys, the guys had stripped down to
their tightey-whities, CK's and `moose-brand' briefs.

"The one with the bulging cock-sock?" Erik replies.

Jalan exclaims, "They've `all' got bulging cock-socks!"

Both laugh their asses off.

Off the top of his head, Erik makes assumption, "I don't think you're in
any condition to drive home, y'know?"

Seeing right through Erik's remark, Jalan retorts, "And what are you
suggesting?"

"Oh nothing. Other than Zack and Jase would probably be thrilled if your
boys spent the night?"

"Oh? And where would that leave us?"

His hand already around Jalan's shoulder, all Erik had to do is slide it
westward, taking Jalan's neck in hand, drawing their heads together.

Down at the south side of the pool, Zack tells the guys, "I think we're
gonna be brothers!"

His pointing arm shows them why. The younger Karibe boy, Travis gets up
and leaves the gathering, Manuel following him.

Ten year old Patrick says, "You mean we can go swimming everyday?"

"And watch Spiderman too," Jase replies.

The oldest, Declan asks, assuming they would not be living with Aunt Rose
in the cramped little cottage, "Do we get to have our own room?"

Zack replies, "Our dad said Jase and me were too young for our own room and
when we get older we could."

"Hey!" Jase comes up with a brainstorm, "Maybe Declan and me could have our
own room and Zack and Patrick share a room!"

"But I won't be able to sleep without you, Jase."

It puts a damper on Jase's great idea, with Zack sulking.

"Oh, I didn't think of it that way."

"Declan and I sleep in the same room too," Patrick tells.

"Where does Travis sleep?" Zack asks.

"He sleeps with our dad in his bed, because there's not enough beds."

Knowing their dad slept without clothes on, Zack asks, "Does your dad have
clothes on when he goes to bed?"

"Um," Patrick thinks.

Quick on the draw, Declan tells them, "He wears bottoms."

"Sometimes when it's hot Jase and me sleep with only bottoms on."

"Us too," Declan says.

While the boys had their conversation at the south side of the pool, the
food brigade carrying on in the deep waters of the north side, seven year
old Travis had wandered over to where his dad and Erik sat on the
double-seated lounge chair. Manuel had sauntered past the dads and headed
towards the dessert table.

"Hi dad."

They became aware of Travis standing there. Before their approach, Erik had
guessed the youngster's purpose would be in finding out why the dads were
engaged in kissing.

Right on the money, Travis asks, "Zack says we're going to brothers. Are
we?"

Sitting there in their speedos, Jalan helps Travis hop up on his knee,
using it for a bench. Instead of denying it, he asks his son, "How would
you feel about it?" He looked to Erik and then looked for an answer from
Travis.

"Zack says we can watch Spiderman everyday and Declan says we can go
swimming. Can we?"

Erik smiled, passing the responsibility of an answer over to Jalan.

"I suppose there will be times when you can and times when other things are
more important to do."

"Okay," Travis says in reply. "Dad, I have to go to the jon."

"Duty calls," Jalan says, allowing Travis to slide down his leg as he gets
up.

From his view, Erik looked upon Jalan as a beach boy, slender, young even
at his thirty-one years of age. "Don't be too long," he replied. Then like
day and night, Jalan turns to walk away, the hairy front giving way to a
smooth back. With a sly feeling, he wonders if tonight will be the night!
