Room 108-Chapter 18: Byron's Celebration

"Coach, we did it! We won the first game! It wasn't even close, they
couldn't keep up with how fast we were! Gideon scored two of the points,
and we knocked them out! They didn't stand a chance, and they are supposed
to be the only other team that can compete with us! We kicked their
ass's!!"

Byron was next, "Yeah those preppy Oak Grove mother fuckers weren't
expecting my little send off either. I showed them how Pat Nixon would have
said thank you for the practice. Maybe they will blow us afterwords?"

Gideon just stood there soaking up the congratulatory pats on the
backs from his fellow teammates and the adoring looks that Liam was
shooting to him. All of them were so proud that they had forgotten they
were still in the presence of a teacher at their school and his
assistant. To them, they were alone in the world and only mindful of their
own needs and wants.

I chuckled a little bit, but spoke to Hayden. "We won because of how
hard you played, and how seriously you took practice. Those two things
combined to make it so that we won with ease. Just watch the language
Hayden. We are still representing the school."

"Who cares Coach, we won the season opener!" He then leaned into me,
and in almost conspiratorial voice spoke the next words to me in a
whisper. "Plus, we have another surprise for you. Byron can cum."

The long anticipated moment at which Byron would be able to cum had
just dawned on our lives, like the glorious sunshine after a dark
storm. True, our lives were far from tormented by tragedies and
tribulations, but all other achievements had been brushed aside when Hayden
made the awe-inspiring announcement that Byron could produce sperm. The
celebrations going on around us seemed to pale in comparison and in some
sort of twisted way, it seemed as if everyone was celebrating Byron's
introduction into manhood as well. Such a thing was of course ridiculous to
imagine, but it was still something that crossed my mind and made me smile,
increasing the smile that was already written large across my face.

Liam looked over at me as Hayden left my side and ran over to join
his cheering comrades, and momentarily looked perplexed by what he had
witnessed. Liam mouthed to me "What was that all about?", but considering
we were at the least fifteen feet away from each other, there was no way I
was going to share that bit of personal information about a student with
Liam. I wasn't sure how he felt about the boys in a sexual sort of way just
yet, and for all I knew he wanted me and me alone. Adding the Three
Musketeers into the mix might throw our potential romance off it's
hinges. I needed to be careful with how I proceeded with this new bit of
information.

The celebrations that were naturally occurring after such a win were
not long in winding down. I had authorization from Ms. Arthur to take the
boys to Pizza Hut after we won, in the eventuality that we would win. When
I announced this bit of information to the boys, they were clearly thrilled
by the announcement of such news, as the windows of the school bus seemed
to shake with the noise that announced to the skies that we were going to
be having pizza for dinner. I basked in the adulation that they were
heaping on me, and even Liam looked thrilled at the possibility of spending
more time with me and the boys as well. The bus settled down thanks to the
grumbling of the portly bus driver, who seemed none too thrilled by the
prospect of having to spend more time with roughly 15 young men, myself and
Liam included, who seemed hell bent on causing a ruckus. I ordered the
troops to sit down and we got on our way.

The celebratory mood that had been quashed by the bus driver, was in
no way completely extinguished, and seemed to arise as if it were a
mythical phoenix once we arrived at the restaurant. The boys flowed out of
the bus, shouting encouraging words to each other, and of course reliving
the glorious moment on the field, trying to determine the moment when they
realized that the game was theirs. The sweat flowing off their bodies from
being on a crowded bus didn't seem to dampen the ardor of their
celebrations. Hayden, Gideon and Byron were the natural leaders on the
field, and they were also the leaders off it. They were the first one into
the booths, and all others seemed to just congregate around them as if they
were the center of a swirling vortex of gravity. Liam and I ordered enough
pizza's to feed 30 teenage boys along with breadsticks, cheese and drinks
to go around. I ordered extra as a way that they could unwind and truly
enjoy their food. Not have to worry about a shortage of food was something
that I wanted to worry about at the moment. Normally I wouldn't allow my
players to eat so horribly as it might slow them down on the field, but
they had earned a small modicum of pleasure and why not allow it to be
food? They had left their all on the field; why not allow them a small
feast of carbs? The boys settled down in a natural progression once the
food arrived, of stuffing their faces with pizza, as well as talking loudly
about how awesome they were. The typical arrogance of youth, I grant you
that, but again I was on an emotional high as well.

Liam and I sat down to enjoy our dinner together, and also to
discuss strategy about the game and review what we could have done
better. The boys were too focused on one another, so they paid us very
little mind at all. Liam and I were thus afforded the privacy of a dinner
together, but also witnessing the boys enjoy themselves in our
company. Every now and again someone would saunter over our way, and
congratulate myself on my coaching abilities, but they were few and far
between. The boys were happy with each other's company and Liam and I were
more than content to have some time together.

"Well Michael, I can't say that it was a complete victory, but we
were able to come out and demonstrate that we have a great team. I would
have liked it to have been a shut out but I guess we need to work on our
defense. What do you say Coach?"

"Liam I think you are being too harsh on yourself and the
boys. Achieving a shut-out victory is a few and far between occurrence, and
I think our boys showed themselves to be a great team overall. They didn't
give up at all, and even when we had the lead, the boys still pressed the
defensive game so the offensive boys could have a rest. Our boys looked out
for each other as if they were a family, and that's more important to me
than anything else that they could have done."

Liam looked a little abashed by what I had just told him, but before
he could respond, Hayden walked over to our table and sat himself right
down, and grabbed a slice of our chicken and jalapeño pizza. Normally I
would have been taken a little aback by this familiarity between students
and myself, but considering all that Hayden and I had been through,
combined with his killer smile that he was flashing in my direction, I
welcomed his intrusion into my dinner time conversation with Liam. I could
tell that Liam was also slightly relieved to have someone to take the heat
off of himself, after I had gently chided him.

"Well Coach, I think we pretty much showed the other schools that
Pat Nixon isn't some push over school that they don't have to pay attention
too. I saw some students from Promenade Point in the bleachers, and they
won last year. I'm sure that since they've seen us in action now, they will
go back and tell the others what they have in store for the future. "

Hayden spoke with a little bit of the arrogance of one who has won
one game, and now thinks the championship is in their hands already. I must
say that I found his confidence strongly alluring, and I didn't want to
bring him back down to earth. That would happen naturally enough, because
I'm sure that exactly the opposite would happen. Promenade Point would take
what they had seen, pinpoint our flaws and find some way to exploit
them. To say that they were our most fierce rivals was an
understatement. To point out that they were our competition next week was
something that would become obvious soon enough. I decided to let Hayden
enjoy his moment in the sun.

"I'm sure that Promenade Point will be a strong competition for us
Hayden, but we will give them a good game. We just have to keep up what we
did tonight, next week for them, and we will bring home another win. It's
when the team works together, and our leaders demonstrate the skills that
they have, that our team will be able to win against any team."

"Jeez Coach you sound like one of those inspirational posters!
What's next, you gonna tell me to just hang in there baby!" Hayden snorted
as he said this last line, and I could resist a playful poke in his ribs to
get him to laugh some more. He smacked my hand away, and for a moment I was
afraid that I had overstepped my boundaries, but in the next second, Hayden
reached over and gently punched me in the shoulder and again flashed that
shit-eating grin at me. All trust in our relationship was still intact, and
I was more than relieved to see that he was still determined to retain our
playful banter between us.

Liam just sat there, watching the back and forth between Hayden and
myself. He made very little movements beyond the eating of food, and for a
moment I was afraid that he was upset with me about how I chided him
earlier. But all doubts were soon replaced by more questions, because every
time that Hayden spoke, I noticed that Liam watched him fully in the face,
never taking his eyes off of Hayden. He stopped eating, and in some
instances, it appeared that Liam was barely breathing at all, holding
everything in as he watched Hayden talk to me.

I was curious as to why Liam would be staring at Hayden, and again
at first I thought that he was upset about Hayden interrupting our
dinner. But the more I watched Hayden and Liam, even though they were not
interacting with each other, I noticed that Liam was spellbound by
Hayden. He was amazed by everything that Hayden was doing, and finally it
dawned on me that like me, he adored Hayden. Whether that adoration
bordered on sexual attraction was as of yet to be determined, but it was
clear as the dawning of a new day that Liam adored Hayden and would cross
burning goals in order to get to Hayden and make him happy. I was pleased
by this discovery, but again I wanted to know more about what drove this
adoration.

"Coach, have you given any more thought to that development that I
was telling you about earlier, you know the one after the game got out?
Byron was really adamant that you be informed of it, and to see what you
thought about it."

I was left speechless by the sheer temerity of Hayden, but this
should have come as no surprise at all to those who truly knew Hayden. He
was always willing to push the boundaries in order to see what he could or
could not get away with. His smile played across his face, as I'm sure my
dread was apparent. Liam knew nothing about what was being talked about,
and he betrayed nothing emotional about it except for a brief flash of
confusion as to what we might have been talking about, but again this was
just a momentarily lapse in his façade. Liam was a consummate poker
player I could only imagine, but I was sure he was curious. The verbal
sparring between Hayden and me would have to continue in front of Liam, and
we would need to be vague. However, as a teacher I have learned the art of
being vague about what one is trying to communicate.

"Well Hayden, you can tell Byron that I'm a little surprised by the
development you shared with me earlier. I am quite surprised by this
development and think it's a great accomplishment, but I don't know what to
say until I see it in action, if I'm able to do so that is. I'm not sure
that I can, but that's up to those in charge." Check.

"Oh Coach, Byron definitely feels that you seeing this development
is critical to its success. In fact, soon after the development reached its
conclusion, you were the first person that he wanted to inform of its
success. The Three Musketeers voted on it, and we have decided to put on a
special performance for you in order to showcase this development."
Checkmate.

Liam's face was now entirely transfixed on our conversation, and the
confusion that he had earlier tried to hide, was now written large across
his eyes and his mouth. Liam would have liked nothing better that to have
entered into our conversation, but again at the present moment, he wanted
to just sit back and watch what was unfolding in front of him. Curiosity
would surely kill this cat if he wasn't careful, but who really pays
attention to the flame in front of them?

"Alright Hayden, let me and Coach Liam get back to discussing the
strategy for the next week's game. You boys go on and enjoy your pizza
party, you've earned it, wouldn't you agree?"

"You are right Coach. It's also like we are celebrating Byron's
little achievement aren't we?"

With that last little comment, which seemed to go sailing over
Liam's head, Hayden flashed a toothy grin at me, and resumed eating with
his friends as if our conversation had been no more than a mere distraction
to him. I went to turn back to Liam and finish our discussion, when I felt
his hand reach over and grab mine.

"Michael, I have to ask you something, and I need to ask it
now. Were you just flirting with Hayden Van Diver right in front of me?"

*****

I want to take a personal moment and thank everyone deeply from the bottom
of my heart about the messages of condolences that I received since the
death of my beloved grandmother. I knew Nifty treated people like family,
but I was beyond grateful to be able to experience that personally. Again
thank you. I tried to respond to everyone who sent messages of support, but
the simple truth is that there were too many of you and I'm sure a few fell
into the cracks. But again I want to say thank you from the bottom of my
heart!! :)

Also thank you for your patience as it has taken me longer than I imagined
to get back to writing. Family strive has been rampant, and it still
continues. But knowing you all would be eagerly awaiting my next
installment, this has motivated me to this new chapter. Thank you for
everything and beyond!

Again I've got some model pictures of the boys that I wouldn't mind sharing
with people if you don't mind sharing some good stuff with me. Just say
hello and let's see where we go from there.
