SUMMER BASEBALL (PART 8)
-------------------------------------------

ANGEL AND HIS ROCK

Phone call #1
----------------

As I left the park, I beeped Pete. 15 minutes later, he called me as I
reached the hotel. I parked and stayed put.

"Sorry, but we had our hands full here after you left. Some parents wanted
to find you guys so bad. And this is the team that WON, fer chrissake.

"Yeah it was pretty intense. Are you and the rest of the tournament people
there ok?",

"Yeah. We are. Thankfully the people causing the most trouble are not
staying at your hotel. The team that lost, is there, probably til tomorrow
morning."

I knew the other umpires working tomorrow, their rooms and cells. I asked,
"what can we do to help you for tomorrow? What can I do?"

He replied, "I want to run some things by the committee. What is official,
is I will have a special area for you guys to park. It will be away from
general parking. I will have security for you all. You will not go
anywhere without escort, OK?"

"Yes, and thank you"

"They will meet you at the hotel, drive with you, and stay with you and
your vehicles. When the game is done, they will be with you. When you say
goodbye to your partners, they will be with you. If you wish, they will
follow all of you to the city limits."

"Oh, by the way" he said. "Joel DID do a good job. He was hassled only
because those people thought they saw inexperience. " I agreed with Pete
100%.

"And Tom, I don't care one bit he's gay." Neither do I, Pete.

`I'll catch you later, Tom. BTW, you ok? I mean you took that guy's best
shots. Do I need to worry about you for tomorrow?"

"No sir, you don't. I'll make sure every one of us is on the same page."

Phone call #2.
-----------------

To Phil and Tim, the other blue's working tomorrow. Left message to call
room 225 asap.

Phone call #3.
-----------------

I called Joel's number. His mate, Mark answered.

"He's in the shower. Can I help you, Tom?

"Yeah. He OK?"

"Yep. Still a little shaken up. But he`ll be fine."

"OK, Mark. This is between you and me. He did a FINE job tonight."

"Thank you."

"And I love it that he's gay. That he has you."

Silence. "Now you guys up to meeting me in a few minutes? It can`t be
later, I`ll explain to you then."

"I'll ask him, Tom. Once I've joined him in the shower. Call your room or
your cell?"

"Room. I have some other calls to make. I'm serious, please join me
later."

"I'll call you back, Tom. We'll see."

Phone Call #4.
-----------------

To my angel. On his cell. Left a message.

I showered quickly. Some calls have been returned.

Pete called to say security is a go. Meet in the lobby at 11am.

Phil, then Tim called. I informed them of plans for tomorrow.

My angel's voice. He did return my call, the darling. I called him right
away. He can meet Joel and Mark and me.

Now the room number. One message,...Joel. I called their room right away.
They'll meet Angel and me in 10 minutes. I phoned my baby.

********

Joel and Mark met me poolside. We ordered beers. And a Mountain Dew.
That shit makes me shudder, lol.

We moved on to the Jacuzzi. Mr. Mountain Dew Drinker was already there.
Relaxed and stretched in the water, the same way he saw me not that long
ago. We were not quiet and discreet like him though. We splashed and made
enough noise to waken the dead. We then made introductions. Mark and Joel
were puzzled why Angel was here.

Angel and I kissed. That answered their question, dammit. Joel looked at
Angel and said, "I had your game last night. Jesus kid, do you have
talent."

"Thanks, Blue. You called a good game." Then he looked at Mark with those
eyes that can stab you through. He looked again at Joel. Then he looked
at me.

"Yes, baby, they're gay. They're partners in life." I was holding my
angel close.

"Angel can't stay long, guys. So here's the deal. Pete says you are a
good umpire, Joel. Angel says you are. I say you are. Mark says you are.
So are you gonna be ready for tomorrow?"

"Yeah, I'll be ready. And, Tom, I can't thank you enough for helping me
today." I noted that Angel was both naked and snuggling closer. With some
squirming on my part, he had my speedos off.

"What did you say to that coach out there? The players got out of your way
in a big damn hurry. The wind seemed to stop blowing. You were going to
make him walk to Canada before you finally stopped."

Angel grabbed my cock. "Easy tiger", as I kissed him.

"I simply told him to fuck off." Angel stopped massaging my tool and
looked at me. Both Joel and Mark stopped whatever they were doing
underwater and started to laugh.

"Potty mouth", Angel giggled. "Yup. It worked too. And Joel, you can't
be doing that at this point in your career. You haven't walked the walk.
You can't talk the talk. I can."

"And BTW, Pete thinks he has a diamond in the rough. Meaning YOU.
And...he doesn't give a hoot you're gay."

"How'd he know that?"

"He kept the hounds of hell away from you. He saw Mark approach and let
him join us. He saw Mark's concern and love for you."

"Now, for Angel's sake, would you guys share your story?

********

All too soon, we needed to part company. I found new respect for Joel.
Angel heard more of what is GOOD about being gay...besides the sex. That
boy was gonna kill me on the sex thing.

We said goodnight. I pulled Mark aside, with Angel near me. I said
simply, "Take care of your man."

They went to their room. Angel came to mine. Should have given him a room
key.

I swears he was naked before the door closed. I quickly stripped. Grabbed
his hand. "Shower?"

Our time that night was to be precious and way too short. Early in the
week, I saw a gifted boy that was very frustrated and troubled. About
love. Tomorrow, I will say goodbye to this same gifted boy. But he will
be so much more confident in himself. In his sexuality. In how to love
his NEW lover.

We bathed and made love that night with passion. Honest to god raw
passion. He knew we were saying goodbye tomorrow. We didn't have to speak
it.

He drilled me this night like never before. I now had his seed. I so
wanted to have his angel babies.

I looked at the clock. It was time for him to go. His buddies knew only
that he went for a walk..

We would see each other tomorrow, but it would be as umpire and player. He
was going to pitch. His dead on fastball. His impossible to hit breaking
ball. His zeal and love of the game. I would not be on the plate to call
his pitches, nor would Joel. We'd be on the bases, and I would be Joel's
keeper.

I hope I've been a good keeper for my angel.

 ******

The championship game went well Sunday with only minor glitches. Fabulous
young guys playing a fabulous game. Angel pitched a no-hitter. I'm so
proud of him.

Joel had a super game, making some tough calls at 2nd base. I was at 3rd.
I was the buffer. The DMZ. If the coach wanted to cause trouble with Joel,
he'd have to go through me. And I'd take him to hell. Even on the Sabbath
day.

My angel hit a triple, sliding in safely at 3rd. We touched for the last
time, as our bare arms brushed and the sparks flew. I patted his butt,
saying nice hit. He giggled that wonderful angel giggle, and patted my
butt, saying "Good call, Blue." I said, "Angel baby, you damn well better
love your Rock."

He smiled and nodded.

The catcher, Ronny the Rock, had a real twinkle in his eye when he reached
3rd later in the game. "Sup, Rock?" He told me how different Angel seems.
A better team mate. A better player. A better friend. And...now a
boyfriend.

I said, "Rock, be good to your man." He replied, "You got it, Blue."

******

I left there on that Sunday knowing my angel was going to be fine. He had
a Rock to stand with. I knew the Rock would be just fine as well. His
lover would make sure of it.

I got home safely. I got an email from Mark and Joel saying they got home
safely. I got one from Pete, saying thanks for everything. I owe so, so
much to Pete. Why is he thanking me?

I got an email from a certain angel a couple days later, saying they all,
too, got home safely. And, BTW, Rock sends his love.

Note to self: Research cricket.

Ain't baseball wonderful?
