Survival
Chapter 4

The house loomed large as Neal guided me up the stone walkway leading from
the driveway to the front door. I didn't know who I was supposed to meet
but I could tell that whatever he did for a living was something that
brought him a lot of money. The house was two stories, with a large front
yard and a gate guarding the driveway. When Neal and I finally reached the
end of the walk we were standing on the outside of two large French Doors
both with stained glass. Neal quickly rang the doorbell as he looked
around, seemingly surveying his surroundings. The walk from the driveway
to the front door was more walking than I had done in a couple of days and
I could feel my knee throbbing as I stood waiting for the door to open. I
didn't have long to wait, however, as soon after Neal rang the doorbell the
sound of the lock turning came from the other side of the door.

The light from the foyer of the house was bright, making the man who opened
the door appear even larger than he was. My eyes, that were not used to
bright light, blinked rapidly as the light from the inside of the house hit
them. Still I looked up at a man that had to stand about six feet five
inches tall. He had brown hair that was turning gray and seemed to be
thinning slightly on the top. He looked down at me, with a weird look on
his face, after scanning me a couple of times his lips spread into a smile.

"Come in," he said to me.

Neal who had a hand on my shoulder, gripped me tighter making sure that I
did not go anywhere.

"We have a deal remember?" Neal asked. "I'll check his knee," the man
said. "But later." "No first you check his knee," Neal said. "Then you
do whatever else you want to do. Don't forget I'm givin' you a discount."
"Fine," the man said. "I'll check his knee first. Come on in."

Neal guided me by the shoulder, after the man, into a large living room
with high ceilings. In the center of the room was a plush leather sofa
which was pointed at a big screen television that rested against the far
wall of the room.

"Have a seat, son," the man said to me.

Neal gripped my shoulder harder as he had done outside of the house, before
leaning down until his mouth was right at my left ear.

"Remember what I told you in the van," he whispered in my ear. "No funny
business!"

I nodded my head quickly which seemed to give Neal permission to release my
shoulder. I slowly limped my way over to the couch and had a seat on the
middle cushion. The man came over and kneeled in front of me. I watched
as his shaking hand came up and rested on my right knee. Slowly he put
pressure on it before asking:

"How does that feel?" "It's the other one," I said softly. "Oh," the man
chuckled, nervously. "How about this?" he asked after switching his hand
to my left knee and applying the same kind of pressure on the sides of my
knee cap. "It hurts," I said, just slightly louder than a whisper. "How
about when you walk does it hurt then?"

I nodded my head quickly.

"I'm pretty sure it's just a sprain, should heal itself in a couple of
days." "You have to be shitting me!" Neal said. "Excuse me?" the man
asked as he looked up at Neal who was standing at the end of the couch.
"You can make a fucking diagnosis from pinching him?" Neal asked. "Shit,
if that's all it takes than I should have been a fuckin' proctologist." "I
believe I already told you that I am not an orthopedist," the man said. "I
told you I would do the best I could, but I couldn't promise anything for
sure." "And that's the best you could do?" Neal asked. "Here it is," the
man said. "If I were at my office." "Where's your office?" "What?" "You
heard me," Neal said. "Where's your office?" "A little bit East of here."
"You have an opening tomorrow at eight right?" "Excuse me?" "We'll be at
your office tomorrow morning at eight. You try duckin' out on us, and your
wife will learn what you were doing while she was visiting her sister in
Miami." "How did you know." "I have my ways," Neal said. "Now, since you
will be holding up your end of the bargain, whether you want to or not,
I'll hold up my end of the bargain. Because, well that's just the kind of
guy I am. There's one catch I may not have told you about before."
"What's that?" "I watch," Neal said. "As you can see, I have very special
merchandise. I need to make sure it stays in pristine condition if you get
my drift." "Look, I realize you think you're doing me a favor by charging
me an arm and leg and all," the man said as he got to his feet and looked
straight at Neal. "But you do not come into my home and begin to threaten
me. So now either we stick to the deal we had in the beginning or you get
out without any money." "I'm impressed," Neal said. "You do have balls, I
wasn't sure there for a while. You look like a pretty straight laced
fellow, so I guess I can trust you with my merchandise here. But I'll wait
here in the living room. And tomorrow morning we'll still be at your
office at eight sharp. Understood?" "Yes," the man said, before looking
at me. "What's your name?" "Dillon, I told you," Neal said before I could
even open my mouth.

At the time I didn't understand why Neal would be lying about something so
basic like my name, but I wasn't about to correct him. The man just nodded
and smiled at me before holding out his hand. I didn't want to take his
hand, but I looked over at Neal and remembered what he had told me in the
van so without any more hesitation I put my hand in the man's.

"Okay then," the man says, with a little sigh. "Why don't you come with me
Dillon?"

Without saying a word I followed the man out of the living room and down a
long hallway until he finally opened a door to his left and led me into a
large bedroom. The room was poorly lit, only a small lamp in the far
corner of the room provided any light. The centerpiece of the room was a
large king sized bed, which had a large wooden frame, the type I had only
before seen in movies. I stood just inside the door of the room, not
knowing what else to do, as the man shut the door behind me before gently
placing his hand on my shoulder and guiding me to the bed.

"Why don't you have a seat?" he said to me, in a gentle tone.

Remembering what Neal had told me I instantly listened to the man's
instructions and took a seat on the edge of the bed.

"What's your name?" the man asked me as he knelt in front of me. "Dillon,"
I said meekly. "Your real name," the man said, as he looked me dead in the
eyes. "I promise I won't tell Neal that I know. But I know Dillon isn't
your real name. You can be honest with me." "Tyler," I said softly.
"Tyler, I like that name better," the man said, as a small smile crossed
his lips. "My name's Jerry. It's very nice to meet you," he added in the
nicest tone I had heard anyone speak in since Ryan's Mom had said goodbye
to me at her front door. "Look, I know you're probably scared, but you
don't have to be. Not with me. I'm nice, I promise. Okay?"

I didn't really believe him I didn't think anybody associated with Neal in
anyway could possibly be nice. But I nodded my head anyway, the last thing
I wanted to do was to make anyone angry.

"So how about we get some of those clothes off?" Jerry asked, as a little
smirk crossed his lips.

***

I didn't understand anything that was going on in the kitchen. To me it
seemed like Glen was doing a whole lot of just sitting in front of a
computer screen. To be honest it frustrated me to no end. I started to
believe Glen was more interested in catching the one that had gotten away
and less concerned about getting Tyler back. I knew time was not on our
side. The more minutes passed the more damage Neal was undoubtedly
inflicting on Tyler.

As day turned into night I found myself becoming more and more angry. I
was angry at Neal for being how he was. I was angry at the police for not
doing more. I was angry at myself for not being able to fix the situation.
Maybe it was while I was sitting on the Ward's couch unable to go, hating
the thought of staying, that I realized my feelings for Tyler were
something deeper than I had originally let myself believe. I didn't
remember ever feeling love for anyone, even family members. And if you had
met my family you would understand why. My Mom left before I could
remember. My Dad was a drunk who would sneak into my room at night when he
thought I was asleep and do things I don't like talking about. When he
couldn't handle me anymore he shipped me off to live with my Mom's brother,
Gary, who was worse than my Dad. So I never really had the opportunity to
feel love for anyone, or for that matter even care that much for another
person. But Tyler was different. He was always full of energy, full of
life and I could tell he looked up to me. I wanted to be a good example
for him, even if my life was a mess.

Money came in sporadically, if at all. I smoked like a chimney, and I
drank more than I care to admit to. I would have days where the only time
I got out of bed was to smoke a cigarette or get another beer out of the
refrigerator. But my friendship with Tyler gave me a reason to try harder
at life. Days when I knew Tyler was coming over I actually would clean my
apartment, make sure that I didn't have any booze in the house. Tyler,
without even knowing it, was making me a better person. And then when he
needed me the most I wasn't able to do anything for him, and that more than
anything pissed me off.

"Waiting is the hardest part," Karen said as she sat down on the couch next
to me, interrupting my brooding. "Especially when you have no clue what's
going on," I said. "Glen's a good detective," Karen said. "If we're
patient he'll get Tyler back." "But what's going to happen to Tyler in the
meantime?" I asked. "You might know something about Neal. But I know
exactly how he can be. And knowing that Tyler is at his mercy for God
knows how long is killing me." "Jackson, you can't think about that,"
Karen said. "We'll get Tyler back. And then after that happens we'll have
to deal with what happened in the meantime." "That's easy for you to say,"
I said, letting my anger speak. "If you get Tyler back your job is done."
"I'll let that go," Karen said, calmly. "You're angry and you don't know
me too well. But just to let you know I don't check out when the
investigation is over." "I'm sorry," I said, as I quickly realized I said
something I didn't really mean. "Like you said, I'm just angry, and not at
you." "I know it's hard," Karen said. "Trust me I know."

***

"Fuck," the man said as he rolled off of me. "Neal wasn't joking," he
added as he laid on his back on the bed and stared at the ceiling.

I stayed staring at the wall, my body in pain I did not want to move even a
muscle. I was trying to think how I used to be able to go numb, back when
Blair had done those things. For some reason, that was not happening and I
was feeling everything. I closed my eyes, trying to wish the pain away as
I felt the man's hand land gently on the middle of my back.

"I hope I didn't hurt ya," he said, softly. "I didn't did I?" "No," I
said so softly it's surprising the man was able to hear me. "So where are
you from?" he asked.

I stayed silent. Neal had told me to only speak if the man wanted me to,
but he had also told me not to say too much about myself.

"Hey Tyler look at me," the man said, as I could feel the bed shift.

I turned my head to the other side and saw the man lying on his side.

"I don't know what Neal has told you about me," he said, as he looked
straight into my eyes. "But you don't have to be afraid of me. And you
can be totally honest with me. I'm not going to hurt you in anyway, and
I'm not going to tell Neal what you tell me. So don't be afraid. Okay?"
"Okay," I said softly. "So will you answer my question now?" he asked.
"Phoenix," I said softly. "Really?" he asked. "I used to live there.
Nice place. Do you like it?" "It's okay, I guess." "Were you born
there?" "Yeah," I said, nodding my head against the pillow slightly. "Do
you have any brothers or sisters?" "A sister and a brother," I said, as a
sudden feeling of sadness came across me as I thought of my family and how
much I missed them. "Nice," the man said. "How old is your brother?"
"Nine." "Does he bug you?" "Sometimes," I said. "My younger brother
always annoyed me," the man said, as a gentle smile crossed his face.

Under the circumstances I do not know how it was even possible but I was
actually start to feel comfortable with the man I hardly knew and who had
essentially rented me. But for the first time since I had been kidnapped I
found myself feeling just the slightest bit safe.

"He's okay," I said, quietly.

And just as I let my guard down I felt a hand enclose around my cock.

"Feel good?" the man asked me, as a different kind of smile crossed his
face.

***

I have to be honest, as much as it shames me to say it, there did come a
point where I gave up. From the second I heard that Neal had Tyler I
doubted it would be easy for anybody to get Tyler back. And as much as I
liked believing that I could somehow work some type of magic I didn't even
have and get Tyler back, the truth was Neal was in control and he knew it.
And when Neal knew he was in control he did not give it up. So, if someone
were to ask me if I always believed Tyler would be returned home safely at
some point, I would have to say the answer to that would have to be no.

I tried to be the strong one, the one that had it all together. Because
Lisa was a mess, Al shut down and Sarah was somewhere in between. Then
there was Tyler's younger brother, Kyle. Kyle was a quiet kid anyway, one
of those kids you would think were afraid of their own shadow, but now with
everything that was going on he was like a turtle with its head retracted
into the shell. I tried my hardest to take his mind off of things when he
wasn't in his room hiding from the outside world, which was a rare
occasion. I think he was scared Neal would come after him next. And well
I couldn't blame him.

It was early morning when I was standing in the Ward's backyard smoking a
cigarette. It was already hot out, and I could just tell that it was going
to be another miserable day as I stared at the pool and Tyler's neglected
water gun sitting on the deck. I remembered the previous summer when Tyler
had invited me over to his house to use the family's pool. They had just
gotten it built and he was as excited as I had ever seen him. On my way
over to the house that day I bought him that water gun, as a pool warming
gift. Lisa had told me at the end of the summer a day hadn't gone by where
Tyler hadn't sprayed somebody. I guess her thanks for the gift was laced
with sarcasm. I couldn't help but smile a little as I thought of Tyler's
face lighting up when I handed him the gift.

"Jackson," Karen's voice suddenly broke my day dream. "Yeah," I said
quickly turning around. "Can you come inside for a moment?" Karen said.
"Glenn needs to ask you something." "Sure," I said, as dropped my
cigarette and stepped on it before following Karen inside.

Glenn was still parked at the kitchen table in front of the lap top. His
eyes were tired and heavy, but he had a look of determination on his face
nothing could have wiped away.

"Jackson," he said to me, only looking up from the computer screen for a
brief second. "Do you know a Dr. Jerry Alderson in Tulsa, Oklahoma?"
"No," I said as I shook my head. "Should I?" "Well I think he's a
possible lead to Tyler."

***

"Damn good for nothing piece of shit," Neal said. As the morning passed he
seemed to actually get angrier. We had been on the road for at least a
couple of hours, and he still was bad mouthing the doctor. "If he was that
nervous about being caught he should have never taken the fucking deal!"
"Well there ain't a fuckin' thing we can do about that now," Lou said.
"The kid seemed to be walkin' okay anyway." "But it's the principal of the
thing," Neal said. "It's a damn good thing I had him pay in cash. I bet
his check wouldn't have been worth the ink he'd use to write it." "Who's
this next guy anyway?" Lou asked, as he clearly tired of hearing Neal
complain about the doctor. "Shit if I know," Neal said. "Some fucking
perv, wants the kid in a dress. That's weird even for me." "Are we gonna
do it?" "Of course we're gonna do it," Neal said. "And getting extra for
it too. I'm just sayin' the guy sounds like a fucking weirdo. I'm gonna
have to watch this one closely." "Who knew the Bible belt had so many
pedo's?" Lou asked, with a chuckle. "Yeah, well Bible thumpers are no
different than the rest of us."

The entire time Neal and Lou were talking I was sitting with my back
against the side wall of the van. My hands were tied together, as well as
my ankles. I was staring up at the ceiling of the van, and for the first
time since I was eight I was praying. But it wasn't like when I had been
younger and my Mom would make me say my prayers before bed. No, in the van
I was asking god to either get me rescued or just let me die, because I
didn't want to keep having nights like the one I had just been through.

***

"The doctor cracked," Glenn said as he came rushing into the living room
where the Wards were sitting, praying. I was nervously pacing behind the
couch. Glenn had spent the morning on the phone with FBI agents in
Oklahoma. Apparently they had tracked down a pediatrician they believed
had bought pictures of Tyler from Neal, and would have an idea about Neal's
whereabouts. I was happy to have any glimmer of hope but I was not about
to hold my breath. So even as Glenn came rushing into the living room with
more energy than I had ever seen from him I was doubtful anything was
actually going to change. "What do you mean?" Karen asked. "He saw Tyler
last night," Glenn said. "Tyler was in his office this morning. Neal made
a deal with this guy. Sex for treating Tyler's knee." "Oh my god!" Lisa
said, as she covered her face with her hands. Glenn may have been a damn
good detective, but he was definitely lacking in the sensitivity
department. "Well does he know where Neal is headed now?" Al asked. "No,"
Glenn said. "But he told the feds in Oklahoma exactly how to make an
appointment with Neal for Tyler." "So?" Sarah asked. "Well we're in the
process of setting an appointment up right now," Glenn said. "Once that
trap is set there's no way Neal is escaping. We're getting this bastard!"

***

Neal had been talking on the cell phone for almost an hour by the time I
felt the van stop. The sounds from outside told me we were in a city but I
had no clue where. We had been driving all day, and when Lou opened the
side door of the van I could tell that the sun was setting. Lou quickly
shut the door behind him and went digging through the box that was sitting
across from me. I watched him nervously as he carefully pulled out a pink
dress.

"Pretty in pink," Lou chuckled as he looked over at me. "No fancy moves
boy!" he snarled at me as he pulled a switch blade out from the box and
came over to me before roughly cutting the rope that bound my ankles, then
my hands. "Neal's fucking nuts for letting all of these other guys have
you. Fuck if it were up to me I'd spend all day just fucking you," he said
as he pulled the last of my clothes off and threw the pair of jeans behind
him. "Ah shit I forgot the panties," he said as he crawled back over to
the box. "Yeah but that's Neal for ya, thinking money before anythin'
else. Personally I think pleasure before business," he said as he pulled a
pair of flowered panties out of the box and crawled back over to me. "But
maybe that's just me though," he added as he pulled my legs towards him so
I was forced to lay down. In one quick motion my legs were pushed back
towards my chest. "That is one fine cunt though, even with how many cocks
have been shoved up it," Lou said as he ran a dry finger over my hole.
"Neal said you've been getting fucked since you were a tot. I wouldn't
have believed him but he had the pictures to prove it. Made me cum without
touchin' my cock. You know that? Shit, I would have given my left arm to
have ya then. Not that you're half bad now," he said as he pushed the
finger into me. "How do you stay so damn tight? Fuck, I want that bad.
You know, Neal's in the middle of making a deal. He don't want me fucking
you before you go out. But what he don't know won't hurt him. Right?"

I could have kicked, flailed my arms, yelled for help. I could have tried
to run, but I saw the switch blade still lying on the floor next to Lou, so
I just laid there and took it. I didn't say a word as Lou unzipped his
pants, or as he shoved his cock up my ass with only his spit as lube. Just
as Lou was getting into a rhythm the side door flung open.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Neal yelled as he slammed the door shut
behind him. Lou quickly pulled out of me and tried to pull his pants up at
the same time as he turned around to face Neal. "Nothing, I wasn't doin'
anything I swear! I was just dry humpin' that's it," Lou said, the fear
actually coming through in his voice. "You son of a bitch!" Neal yelled,
angrily. "You know I don't want him fucked right before we send him to a
client! What's the one thing I told you never to do?" "I swear I wasn't
fuckin' him," Lou said. "Don't lie to me you son of a bitch," Neal said,
as his eyes scanned the situation in front of him. Lou on his knees in
front of me still fumbling to get his pants zipped up, and me lying with my
legs still in the air, afraid to move. "I'm sorry," Lou said, and I think
he was actually starting to cry. "Sorry doesn't fucking cut it!" Neal said
angrily, as his eyes seemed to focus on something on the floor. "I'm
sorry, I'm sorry," Lou continued to babble, as Neal came closer. "Fucking
no good idiot, can't do anything right can you?" Neal asked. "I don't know
why the fuck I brought you along in the first place. I'd be better off
doing this on my own."

What happened next is a blur. I remember Lou suddenly starting to scramble
as Neal bent down and picked up the switch blade. There was a lot of
frantic yelling and cursing as Lou tried desperately to cross the length of
the van and get to the door. Then there was the blood curdling scream as
Neal drove the switch blade into Lou's back.

"Nobody crosses me," Neal said as Lou crumpled to the floor of the van.

Lou had parked the van in the back of a deserted shopping center, and Neal
calmly pulled Lou's limp body off the ground of the van and dumped him
outside. He then came back into the van grabbed me by an arm and made me
stand right outside the van.

"I want you to watch what happens, when somebody doesn't obey me," Neal
said as he stood over Lou, who was gurgling blood. "See when somebody is
dumb enough not to do something I ask of them they pay," Neal said as he
bent down and grabbed the handle of the switch blade. "And they pay
dearly," he said as he pulled the blade out of Lou's back before driving it
back in and pulling it out at least a dozen times. I stood there, shaking
like a leaf as I watched another human being, being butchered, then Neal
turned to me, the bloody blade still in his hand. "And that is what will
happen to you, if you ever disobey me. Do you understand?"

I quickly shook my head, yes before being thrown back into the van like a
rag doll. Neal slammed the door shut behind me and before I could fully
recover from being tossed the van was peeling out of the parking lot.

***

"We got it all set up," Glenn said, as everybody was gathered in the
kitchen. "The Feds have an appointment set up for day after tomorrow at
seven in Springfield, Missouri," "We're going to have to wait another day?"
Lisa asked. "We had no choice," Glenn said. "Neal said that it was
Springfield or nowhere and that it would take them at least that long to
get there. At least from what he said, it doesn't sound like anything else
is going to happen between now and then. We're getting Tyler back, trust
me."

I should have been happy, I should have been excited but instead a feeling
of dread came over me. I couldn't help but feel that something was going
to happen, that it wasn't as simple as Glenn was making everything appear.
I wished that they would let me go to Springfield to see the bust go down,
then I learned you better be careful what you wish for.

"Jackson, I need to ask you something," Glenn said, as he turned to me.

To Be Continued.
