The Innocents Part 4: Paulo and Beto

Chapter 7
While the ladies are engaged elsewhere, the men gathered in the Library.
Julio has prepared brandies for the three older men and to the junior of the
foursome he offered a cola drink.
"Here you are men. So we've got some decisions to make eh? Why don't you
start Beto, then we'll hear from Paulo and finally we want to hear from
Javier as he has an equal stake in all of this. May I offer some ground
rules on this bullshit session?"
"Yes." "Of course." "Yes Sir." Were voiced by the listeners.
"Good. I'm going to pass out pads and pencils so notes may be taken to
preclude losing our train of thought. I suggest one topic be taken at a
time. Any dissention or comment can then be heard on that. It will lessen
the chance of misinterpretation. No one will interrupt until the speaker
has finished his presentation. Further if no one objects, I want to call
the ladies in on this. They have the right to hear and voice yeahs and nays
themselves. Don't tell Elena I said this: she thinks I don't know she is
the ultimate power broker in our relationship. She has a way of getting to
the bottom of a problem and hints at a solution so I come up with the honor
of thinking it by myself. I think she does it so I can, as the Orientals
believe, `save face'. Does everyone find this agreeable?"
They all assented.
"Great. I'll get them. Be back in a few gentlemen."
"Um, uncles Beto and Paulo? I don't think I should have a say on anything
that goes on here. I don't know enough about things like this."
"May I answer that, Paulo? Javiero, if you don't understand anything that
is said or presented, I want you to ask questions so that you do understand.
This is mostly about your life and interests. If something doesn't sound
right or you disagree I want you to voice your disagreements as strongly as
you can to dissuade the others who may have made a proposal. Do you
understand?"
"Yes sir, I understand, but I'm a kid. I can't buck my seniors."
Paulo rebutted, "In this family you MAY. We want what is best for you. You
have to agree if it is the best. If you feel it doesn't serve your best
interest then I want you to tell us what your objection is. The same will
go for your sister. Is that clear son?"
"Yes sir, it's clear. I never thought that making a decision would be so
difficult. I don't know what my future holds. How can I make a decision
now about what may happen later?"
Beto interjected, "Ah my boy, that's the question mankind has asked
themselves through millennia. With a good education, sound family structure
and values, friends that stand by you through good and bad times, and
perhaps luck too, you will have the best choices to make that will determine
your future. Choosing the wrong friends may deter or alter your path. So
choose wisely and for the right reasons. We're here to advise and counsel
you. In the end, though, you are the only one who can choose. Whatever
choice you make we'll love you and stand by you. It doesn't mean that we
may not agree with your choices or like some of them. You have to do what
YOU have to do."
"Beto, should it take so long to find the girls? Damn, this house is not
that large that Julio would lose them."
"I agree, but it is a good time to take a pee break, eh fellas?"
"Man," Javier remarked, "I'm about to burst."
"You go first boy. The WC is through that door. We'll be standing in line
behind you."
Javier quick stepped through the door. Several seconds later he called out,
"Uncles there are two toilets in here. Which one do I use?"
Paulo queried, "What? Two toilets?"
Beto whispered to Paulo, "One of them is a bidet. Go help the boy out. His
education is just starting."
"Hold your horses, Javinho, I'm coming in." Paulo said as he opened the
door.
Several seconds later the Library door opened and Julio and the ladies swept
in.
"Sorry it took so long Beto, but I couldn't stand it any longer. I had to
call Ricardo and pass on our good news." Elena gushed. "He took it better
than I thought he would. A few tears and sobs, but he got his act together.
He said he in the midst of finals but will be here next week Monday. Good
news eh handsome?"
"I got to talk to him too, Uncle Beto, if for only a few minutes. He sounds
so happy. He said he wanted to dance and sing at the same time. I like him
already."
The sound of flushing could be heard in the background and in entered Javier
a bit red-faced, and a smiling Paulo. "Oh, that felt good!" he remarked.
"Um, Uncle Paulo?"
"No Javinho, I'll not tell them you thought a bidet was another toilet
fixture."
"Uncle PAULO!" he uttered in embarrassment.
The occupants of the room excluding Javier laughed knowing full well they
had all suffered the same fate as he.
"You poor boy, your uncle is sooo mean to you. Paulo you should be ashamed
of yourself." Elena tittered as she swept Javier in her arms giving him
several busses on his cheeks. Javier melted onto her body as she held him
close. She smelled sweetly and feminine. She's the most beautiful woman
I've ever seen. She has command of the room and I'm in her arms. Oh no!
I'm becoming erect. I've got to ease out of this somehow. I can't allow
her to know how weak I am. Oh my God! I've never been so embarrassed.
"Pardon me folks, I've got to use the WC." Beto exclaimed.
Elena released her hold on a relieved Javier and recounted her litany of her
conversation with Ricardo. He smiled as she retold that which had
transpired during his absence. When Beto rejoined the group, Julio
announced that they were going to commence their meeting and recounted the
rules of it. All seated, with notepads and pencils at the ready, Beto
commenced to expound on his ideas of how to integrate the children into
their family and society-at-large. One of the subjects was about the
education of their wards. Beto valued a Catholic education for them noting
that, although parochial, it offered a solid scholastic atmosphere, more so
than would a public school. Some approved and some dissented the choices.
Paulo's disenchantment hinged on Ricardo's denial for Toninho to suffer the
liturgical offerings of a Catholic education by a church which was
exclusionary to gays, ethnic groups and certainly other religious heritages.
The entire group took especial notice when Elena stood up and declared
neither public nor parochial school would suit her choice. She opted to
send the children to a private school that allowed their students the
opportunity to pick and choose whichever talents and motivations they
aspired to become. An example she used, if a student wanted to be a
scientist...then the sciences would be stressed other than the core subjects
of language, history, mathematics and civics not to mention the arts of all
genre. She further declared she wanted Clara to go to an all girls' school
during her formative years. Yes exclusion was what private school was about.
Women she stated had been excluded from everything until recent years.
While Javier would be sent to an all boys school until his graduation from
high school, Clara she stated, needed to be included with girls of her
strata since she had been denied access during her earlier years. It would
build her confidence and value as a woman. She could pick and choose her
major whichever she wanted. Javier she declared would at an all boys school
have lots of sports activity, but also could pick and choose his options for
what interest/s he had. She further wanted a scholastic and career
evaluation study be done so that strengths and weaknesses could be pointed
out. The children then could make their decisions on their own evaluations.
All of the adults voted on their choices...the end result was what the
children wanted. They opted for Elena's dictum.
Yes, thought Julio, Elena is a force to be reckoned with. She can convince
an Eskimo to eat poi and like it..and..never know he didn't think of it
himself. Hehehehe.
It was further agreed that Carla could choose which residence she wished to
commune. She opted to live with Julio and Elena...only steps away from her
brother whenever she wanted to visit vice versa. Julio and Elena were
elated they would finally have a daughter, although a quasi-daughter---a
daughter nonetheless. Julio felt Elena may suggest the purchase of the
home between our two, raze it so that the area between both of our homes
would be park---a veritable family compound. Hmmmm, I may surprise her and
suggest that idea to her myself. It may knock her down a peg or two.
Hehehehe. She would counter that the couple that lived there were
anti-social and needed to find someplace else to live more to their
lifestyle.
"Darlings, I suggest we call it a night. This has been a busy day for our
young people. They need to sleep. I've a busy day planned for tomorrow.
I'm taking Clara out for a complete wardrobe unless that interferes with
your plans, of course, Beto/Paulo!"
"No. No. No. That's quite alright Elena. It's not a problem for us at
all."
"Good. By the way Beto, I suggest you take Javier shopping for more clothes
than what you told me you purchased for him today. No, on second thought
I'll take him with us. I doubt you'd be cautious enough to anticipate what
a growing young man might need. Besides I want people to see these
beautiful people and jealously think they belong to me. They'll squirm from
envy! Oh I love it!!!"
God Damn, I love this woman! She's pushy and all-knowing wrapped up in
beauty. We're going to make love like mad tonight. I can feel it in my
bones! Hot Damn!!! Julio perved on the thought. Go home fellas. I want my
woman!
