The Pilot - Book II

Chapter 13

After dinner, I sent the crew into the shower so they could wash the
chlorine off of their bodies. I watched as they paired off and cleaned each
other and gave special parts extra attention. Robert and Billy were doing
each other as was John and Shane. The person doing the washing got the
liberty of servicing the person being washed. I saw Shane making sure John's

Billy was washing Robert and decided to make sure Robert's tool was just as

I went over to the Phillips' house and sat down to look at the information.
The first thing I noticed was that it was an all male prep school. The
headmaster was from England and concentrated on getting every child
academically prepared for college. Florida has several top universities and
the best students can get full scholarships.

We talked about sending both sets of boys there then decided at make an
appointment to meet with the headmaster. The boys came in and we decided to

bad place. I like the fact it has a soccer team. I use to play at my old
school."

Robert chimed in and said he use to play also. Pat called and made the
appointment and we were all to be there tomorrow afternoon. The boys took
off and went riding again then they said they would be back for another
swim. Pat looked at me and said, "Well Buck, half of them seem excited."

I nodded my head in agreement then said, "I think the others will come
around. I'm a little worried about the fact they are going to be getting
four gay teens there. I think after we meet with the headmaster I will sit
down with them and explain some things to them."

"Good idea Buck," Pat said. "I've never dealt with something like this
before and I'm sure glad you can offer some insight."

I looked at Pat and said, "Well I'm no expert either Pat but I do remember
some of the think I had to deal with but it may also help that times are
changing and many schools won't put up with discrimination of any kind."

Pat and I talked for about another hour then I had to get home because the
boys are coming over to swim. I got home and decided to see if I could find
out anything about this school online. I turned on the computer just as the
four bundles of energy came in through the garage.

The boys were really starting to get tanned and Shane had almost an all body

The boys showered and put on casual clothes then I went to pick Pat and her

impressed by the size of the school. There were signs everywhere directing
you to every building on the campus.

We went into the administration building and found the office. Pat told the
lady we had an appointment with the headmaster. We had to wait a few minutes
then a man in his mid-forties appeared. He introduced himself as Mr. Thomas
Smithers and showed us to a conference room. He handed us brochures about
the school and I handed him the transcripts for Shane and Robert. He looked
at Shane's and said, "Sir, with scores like these he should be in the eighth
grade."

I politely said, "Sir, I know Shane is very bright but I want him to
interact with peers his own age. I feel if he is challenged and given
advanced Math and Science, he will do quite well. Robert is an honor student
but he is working on his proper grade level."

Mr. Smithers scratched his head then said, "Well sir, I think we can keep
Shane challenged."

Pat handed him the reports on John and Billy and he read then just as
carefully. He smiled and said, "I think your boys will do very well here. Do
you have any questions?"

Robert said, "Yes sir, I read that you have a soccer team here?"

The man smiled and said, "Why yes son, we do. We have several very good
teams here. The dates and times for the tryouts will be posted by the gym."

I looked at the boys then said, "Guys, will you step outside for a few
minutes while we talk with Mr. Smithers?"

The boys welt out into the office then Pat said, "Sir, I read here that you
have a Gay Straight Alliance at the school. Is this true?"

The man swallowed hard and said, "Yes ma'am, we do. Is there a problem with
that?"

I smiled at him and said, "Oh no on the contrary, we're thrilled. You see,
those four boys are gay and are boyfriends. My son Shane and Robert are a
couple as are John and Billy. I was thrilled when I read that because it
meant they might have some peace at school. I will talk with them about
proper behavior and they will conduct themselves accordingly."

The man was definitely more relaxed after I spoke then he said, "You son's

here who are also gay. We have a policy of not asking but some boys do and
the other lad can then chose to answer if he wants. We have only had three
problems here and the other students assisted the boy and brought the
offender to the office. We take all forms of discrimination seriously here
and violators are dealt with severely. Every parent knows our policies and
signs a statement that they know every one of them. We give them a copy for
their records and a copy is on file in the student's records."

I looked at him and said, "I would like to enroll my sons in your school if
you feel they meet your requirements."

Pat said the same thing and for the next hour we were filling out all kinds
of forms. One of the office staff took the boys on a tour of the facilities
and when we got out of the conference room, they were just walking back
inside. Shane said, "Man Daddy, this is a cool place. I might go out for the

I smiled and said, "Sounds good tiger. I'm glad I got you gray slacks
because that is part of the attire for this school. Robert, we'll have to
get you your school clothes next. I hope you like light blue."

We all shook Mr. Smithers' hand then left to head home. The boys were all
chattering about their cool new school. I was really happy that three of
them are talking about other activities. I'm hoping once John gets into
things he finds something to peak his interest.

We arrived at Pat's house and John was home from work. We all got out and
went inside. The boys started heading for John and Billy's room when I told
them to hang on for a minute. I brought all the boys into the living room
and sat them down on the sofa. I handed them the papers I printed out about
the GSA and told them all to read it.

I went and had a cup of coffee with John and Pat then Shane came in and
said, "Does this mean what I think it does Daddy?"

I took him back into the living room and talked with the four boys. I said,
"Castle Prep has a Gay Straight Alliance and has a strong stance on
discrimination. Mr. Smithers said that there are several boys who are gay
who attend the school and two seniors were responsible for starting it. I

Robert asked, "What should we do if we are asked Dad?"

I thought about it then said, "I would try to judge the person who is asking
you first. Since the school has a very strong stance I would be honest with
him and tell him the truth. He might be gay himself and would just like to
meet another gay person. It is something you need to feel out for yourself.
You can bring him home so I can meet him and then you can tell him. We can
cross that bridge when we got to it, OK?

The boys nodded their heads then John asked, "Can we join Mom?"

I looked at all four then said, "I think it might be good for all of you if
you did. It might give other boys the strength to come out there at school
and show others that you're no different than they are."

Pat came in and said, "Yes John, you both may join. There is one thing I
would like to add to what Buck has already said. I have seen you two hold
hands here in the house and your father and I don't have a problem with it.
I do think however that you should refrain from doing that outside."

John and Billy looked at each other and blushed a little because they hadn't
realized they were holding hands. Billy smiled and said, "We didn't realize
we were doing it but we'll be sure not to out doors."

I finished talking with the boys then they asked if they could go swimming
when John asked, "Mom, can we spend the night?"

I was beginning to think I had four sons instead of two. Pat looked at them
and said, "Buck doesn't need you guys there all the time."

Billy chimed in and said, "We behave mom, honest."

Shane jumped in saying, "Miss Pat, Daddy doesn't mind them here. I kinda
think of them as brothers. I know Robert does."

Pat looked at her two then said, "I guess it's alright and Buck, if they get
to be a pain, just send them home."

I smiled at her and said, "Don't worry Pat."

I took their clothes and they rode their bikes over when I took my two back
to the house. I had to look into the freezer for something to fix for
supper. I took out some ground beef and made some spaghetti sauce.

I went to check on the boys and they were up to some of their usual antics.

and get dressed."

I put my uniform on and went out to the garage. I opened the door and the
boys headed off to the Phillips and I was off to work.
