The Pilot III

Shane and Robert's Life

Chapter 7

I got into the Yukon and headed home. I was stopped twice and as before they
waved me on when they saw my uniform. I got home about 6:30 and Dad was
already up. I kissed him and he said, "How bad was the call you had?"

"Just a car fire," I said. "No body hurt."

"Oh OK and before I forget," Dad said, "Call Linda Eggleston later in the
morning. She wants to talk with you about Jake. Billy and John stayed here
with him last night. He was having a bit of a rough time."

"Sure thing Dad," I said. "I'll talk with Jake later, when he gets up."

"Did Billy or John tell you what happened to Jake?" I asked.

"Yes they did," Dad said. "Jake started telling us some things too then he
started getting upset so Billy just hugged him until he calmed down. We
didn't talk any longer about it."

Dad and I were talking when a skinny kid in baggy briefs came into the
kitchen. He looked at me and said, "Aren't you the guy I saw yesterday?"

"Small world, huh?" I said smiling at him. "I'm Shane Taylor and this is my
Dad, Buck. How are you this morning Jake?"

"I'm feeling better than I was yesterday," he said. "Who are all these
people here?"

"You already know your foster Dads, John and Billy," I said. "That little
squirt is their son Joey. The blonde haired man is my brother Robert. The
twins are Aaron and Jeremy. They are our foster kids."

"Wow, you guys really care about kids don't you?" He asked.

"Yeah we do," I said, "You probably won't believe this but my Dad can back
me but I was a foster kid until he adopted me in California. When we moved
here, he fostered Robert and John's parents fostered Billy."

"That's great," Jake said pulling up a chair.

I looked at him and decided it was time to try to find out more about why
his parents put him out during a hurricane. I took a sip of coffee then
said, "Jake, I think it might be time for us to talk some."

He swallowed hard and said, "Ah yeah, I guess."

"I'm not asking this because I'm nosey or want to pry," I started. "What
your parents did was just plain wrong. You could have been killed and it was
by blind luck you weren't."

"I know," he said looking at the table. "I did find a place to stay during
the worst part of the storm then it started getting scary in there so I
moved on. So I guess you wanna know why I was out there, huh?"

"Well yeah, that thought had crossed my mind," I said smiling."

"It's like I told that lady from Social Services," Jake said. "My friend and
I were fooling around and my Dad caught us and sent Tommy home then tossed
me out telling me to never come back."

"I know this might be very personal but what were you guys doing?" I asked.

"Ah um," he stammered.

I looked at him and said, "Jake, there's nothing you can tell me that I
haven't heard, seen or done before, so you don't have to worry about
embarrassing either me or my Dad."

He looked up at me trying to comprehend what I just told him. I waited for
him to speak then he said, "You mean you're?"

I smiled at him and said, "Yep, I'm uh."

"And your Dad knows?" He asked.

Dad looked at him smiling then said, "I'm uh too. Are you trying not to say
you are too?"

He started giggling and said, "Yeah, I guess I am."

"Well now that that's out of the way," I said. "What was it you and Tommy
got caught doing?"

"Well," Jake started. "We started off kissing a little then we were feeling
each other up. We pulled our pants down and we were sucking each other when
he came in. He started yelling and calling us names like queers and fags."

I started getting pissed but I bit my tongue then said, "Well, didn't your
mother try and stop him?"

"Oh hell no," he said then putting his hand across his mouth. "Sorry, I
shouldn't have cussed like that."

"It's OK," Dad said. "We all slip every once in a while."

"When he was yanking me towards the door," he started saying. "She slapped
me in the face and called me a bastard."

`Interesting choice of words,' I thought.

I looked at him and asked, "Was Tommy your boyfriend?"

"Nah," he said. "He was just someone I fooled around with. We'd jack each
other and sometimes, like this time, we'd suck each other off."

Dad asked him, "Son, have you messed around with any other kids or adults?"

"A few," he said hanging his head. "A couple of other kids at school would
let me suck them but that's it."

He started to tear up when he said that so I put my arm around him and said,
"It's OK Jake, we're not judging you. We were asking more for your health.
We didn't want you to pick up anything."

He looked at us and smiled saying, "Thanks, you're the first people who've
cared without wanting anything."

"Yeah there is," Dad said.

"I knew it," Jake said getting more upset. "You guys want a blow job,
right?"

"That's not what Dad meant," I said firmly. "The only thing we want is for
you to be safe and happy."

When he heard that he broke down and cried. He buried his face into my
shoulder and let everything flow out of him. I rubbed his back and just let
him get it all out. After about 10 minutes he looked up and said, "I'm sorry
I said that Shane. Somebody's always wanted something from me in the past."

"We understand Jake," Dad said.

The twins came in and asked, "What's going on Shane? Why's Jake crying?"

"We've just been talking," I said.

Jake looked up at them and said, "I just had some stuff inside me that
needed to get out and Shane and Buck listened to me without judging. Then it
finally sunk in that they really cared about me without wanting anything in
return."

Aaron put his hands on Jake's shoulders and said, "We all care about you
Jake. We're glad you're here. Hell man, you're like another brother to us."

Jake started to cry again when the twins pulled him up and into a hug
kissing him lightly on the cheek. He looked over at Shane and asked, "I hope
no one is offended by this question but I don't see any women here. Is
everyone gay?"

Jeremy giggled and said, "Well, we both are."

Dad smiled at him and said, "Yes son, with the exception of Joey, everyone
here is gay. But I would ask that you keep that to yourself."

"Wow," Jake said smiling. "That's so cool and don't worry, I won't tell
anyone."

I looked at Jake and said, "Did you get a shower last night?"

"Yeah I did," he replied. "But I could use another one."

The twins smiled when they heard that and Dad said, "And just what's going
through your minds?"

"We were gonna offer to help him, that's all," Aaron said with a devilish
grin.

I thought for a minute and said, "Oh go on but keep the noise down. Joey is
still asleep. Don't be surprised if he comes in to pee though."

"OK," Jake said as they want down the hall towards the bathroom.

I looked at Dad and said, "I never expected this to happen. Looks like Joey
will have a playmate until Jake finds a boyfriend. I better call Linda and
see what she wants."

I got her cell phone number from Dad and found out she wanted to come out
and talk with Jake some more. She needed more details so she could then
start to investigate his parents. As I was talking with her, Billy and John
came out of their room. She said she wanted to come by about 10:30 and I
said that that was fine. I hung up with her and John asked, "Where's Jake?"

He heard him and the twins quietly giggle as they streaked across the hall
into their room and Billy asked, "Did Jake need help with his shower?"

I laughed and said, "Apparently he did."

They just shook their heads and went into the kitchen. The three boys got
dressed and joined us followed by Joey still in his briefs. Joey hopped up
on John's lap and said, "I'm hungry Dad."

I went to get the cereal down when Dad said, "How about some bacon and eggs
instead?"

Jake's eye lit up as did the twins' then Joey said, "Yum, Grandpa."

Dad got the bacon frying and I took orders for the eggs. The smell from the
bacon started filling the house and soon Robert came out in his boxers with
his very noticeable morning wood. I grinned at him and said, "Couldn't stop
at the bathroom first?"

I stood up and hugged him as he said softly, "That smell was just too
overpowering love."

I reached my hand down and rubbed his dick saying, "This sight is just to
overpowering."

"Maybe after breakfast," he said grinning.

"Mmmm," I whispered. "I always love desert."

I squeezed it once more then he left to take a leak. Jake had seen the
goings on and he said, "Nice package."

I just grinned and wiggled my eyebrows at him.

Everyone wanted scrambled eggs so I started fixing them as Dad took the
bacon out of the pan. I made 18 eggs for us and when breakfast was done,
nothing was left.

I was surprised when Jake and the twins got up and started clearing the
dishes off the table then started rinsing them and putting everything in the
dishwasher. I want in to turn on the television and I was followed by Joey.
I sat down and he joined me on my lap saying, "The twins made me feel good
after we went to bed the other day."

"Glad you had fun," I said just as the doorbell rang.

I got up and carried Joey with me and opened the door to let Linda in. "Hi
Shane," she said. "And who's this little cutie?"

"Hi Linda," I said. "This is Joey Thomas. He's John and Billy's son."

She came in and rubbed his nose as Joey said, "This is my Uncle Shane."

We laughed as I set him on his feet then went into the dining room. Everyone
shifted from the kitchen to the dining room as I said to the twins, "Why
don't you two take Joey upstairs and play video games while we talk with
Jake?"

"OK Shane," Jeremy said as they went to find the little squirt.

Dad fixed a pot of fresh coffee as Linda said, "I think it might be better
if I just talked to Jake alone."

Jake looked up and said, "I want them here ma'am. No disrespect to you but I
trust all of them. I know you helped me yesterday getting me here but I
don't really know you all that well."

She smiled and said, "That's fine Jake, I just thought you'd feel more
comfortable talking with me alone. I know all these people so it's not a
problem. Now, can you tell me more about what was going on that caused your
parents to put you out?"

Jake looked over to me and I just nodded my head. Linda saw this then Jake
said, "Tommy and I were doing oral sex on each other."

Linda nodded her head then asked, "Jake, are you homosexual?"

I looked at him and said, "Jake, don't answer that question. Linda, since
when has that been an issue before. You never asked Robert that question so
why are you asking Jake?"

"It was just a question Shane," she said looking at me.

"Yeah, and if anyone finds out he'll be ridiculed," I said.

"No one is going to find out," she said as I glared at her. "It won't be in
my report but that question might come up."

"Big deal Linda," I said. "You know as well as I do that teens experiment
all the time. Hell, girls do to. So if it comes up you can honestly say that
you don't know."

"Alright," she said. "Did your mother try to stop him from putting you out?"

"No ma'am," Jake said. "She just slapped me in the face and called me a
bastard."

"I see," she said as she made some notes. "I think I have enough information
to do my report and look into your parent's behavior." She said. "Jake,
would you mind going and playing with the others while I talk with the
adults?"

"Billy said, "It's alright son,"

Jake left the table and went upstairs then we all looked at Linda. Dad said,
"What is it that Jake couldn't hear?"

Linda said, "Shane, you and Robert are going to have the twins for a lot
longer. I called the hospital to see how their parents were doing and they
passed away from their injuries."

I was shocked because even though they did seem serious when I called, I
didn't know they took another turn for the worse. I regained my composure
and asked, "Are you going to look into other blood relatives for them?"

"I'm not sure," she said. "They made it pretty clear to Mrs. Walden that
they don't want to live with their grandparents so we might just clear them
for adoption."

I looked at Robert and Dad then said, "I don't think we need to tell the
twins this today. They've been through enough these last couple of days."

Robert nodded his head as Dad said, "I agree son. They need a day of fun and
relaxation if not this could send them off the deep end.

We were talking about a few other things when suddenly Jake reappeared. He
waited for us to finish talking when he asked, "Will I have to go to court
Linda?"

"I don't know son," she said. "I guess that's up to the legal system but I
suppose the police will charge them for what they did to you."

"Oh," he said looking at the table. "I'm kinda wondering what they're gonna
tell you and the police when you tell them I was found unconscious after the
storm."

Linda got Jake's parent's names, his address and phone number and said she
would be talking with them either later today or tomorrow. She got out her
cell phone and dialed the number Jake gave her to see if they had telephone
service. She got an answering machine so that told her they did. She looked
at Jake and said, "Try not to worry Jake. It will work out alright."

He gave a weak smile and said, "I hope so."

Linda stood and I walked her to the door as she said, "I'll keep trying to
get in touch with him today then I'll go to the house. If no one is home
I'll leave my card telling them they must get in touch with me or risk a
visit from the police."

"Let's hope that works," I said as she walked outside.

"Oh it will," she said smiling. "One way or another."

I watched as she got into her car and drove away then went back inside. Jake
was standing by the door looking lost when I said, "Come on Jake, we're not
going to let anything happen to you. You have to trust us now."

"I'm trying Shane," he said as I led him inside.

Just then Joey came bounding down the stairs saying, "What's for lunch?"

Billy picked him up saying, "After that big breakfast you ate you're telling
me that you're hungry?"

"Yeah Daddy," he said. "Besides, that was a couple of hours ago."

Aaron said, "I'm kinda hungry too. I could go for some pizza."

The other two teens' eyes lit up at that so I went out to the chest freezer
and brought in 3 extra large garbage pies."

Meanwhile back at the DCFS office Linda was trying to get hold of Jake's
parents. Finally about 3:30 a woman answered the phone. Linda said, "Hello,
is this Maria Curtis?"

The woman answered saying, "Yes, this is Maria Curtis."

Linda said, "This is Linda Eggleston with the Department of Children's and
Family Services. I'm calling in reference to your son Jake."

The woman froze for a second then said, "I I don't know what you're talking
about."

"Before you hang up," Linda fired back. "If you do hang up on me, you will
be receiving a visit from the police department."

Her husband was apparently home and heard what was going on and he took the
phone saying, "Who is this?"

"This is the director of the Miami Dade DCFS," she said. "Is this Mr.
Curtis?"

"Yeah," he snapped back. "What business is it of yours?"

"I'm calling about your son Jake." Linda said.

"We don't have a child," he said. "Good bye."

He hung up the phone on her and Linda was really pissed. She had the address
but her problem that that the school board was closed from the hurricane. It
would be tomorrow at the earliest that she could look at Jake's school
records. She doubted that Jake was born in Jackson Memorial but that was
worth a try. She called the house and Dad answered saying, "Hi Linda, this
is Buck. What can I do for you?"

She said, "I finally got hold of Jake's parents and the father got on the
phone and denied having a child. Is Jake there? I need to ask him a
question."

"What do you need to ask him Linda?" he asked.

"I need to ask him where he was born," she said. "That man has me really
steamed right now and I want to find something that shows them as their son.
The school administration building is closed so I can't check his school
records. If I can find a record of his birth that will be all I need."

"Alright," Dad said. "Hang on and I'll get him."

Dad got Jake to the phone and told him what Linda wanted and put him on. He
took it saying, "Hi Linda, what is it you need now?"

"Where were you born son?" She asked.

"I was born here in Miami," he said. "You know the hospital where you saw
me, that's where I was born. Why do you need that information?"

"I hate to say this Jake," she started. "You father said they didn't have a
son. I guess if he said that, I couldn't do anything but he's wrong. That's
why I asked where you were born."

"That sounds like him," he said.

"Don't let it get to you son," Linda said. "You're with people who love and
care about you. And this is the most important thing, they WANT you."

"Yeah they do," Jake said.

"Hang in there son," she said. "I'll be in touch."

He hung up the phone and fell into Dad's arms crying. "He told Linda they
didn't have a child. Can you believe that? The bastard said he didn't have a
child."

To be continued
