				Chapter 11

Spring was just around the corner Anton was getting better and Anthony was
a pulling guard duty along with Troy. We all took our turns. I still wasn't
allowed to pull guard duty but I would usually spend my time with Kyle and
Troy but usually Kyle and I we doing something else than watching and once
in a while Troy would join in.

We had not seen a sole since Troy, Craig, Anton and Anthony join our little
band of youth. So one night we gathered everybody together and decided we
would go out searching for more supplies. We figured we would wait for the
snow to completely melt so we would not have trouble when traveling on the
roads. It was also decided that only six people would go on this adventure
because crops needed to be planted and the livestock would need to be taken
care of. I want to go on this trip but I was voted down by the group
because they felt I was too important to the group. So when it came time
for the group to go it was Dan, Tucker, Brandon, Jon, Bobby and Ben that
would go on this little adventure. They filled two trucks with fuel and had
extra tanks inside the two trailers they were going to pull behind. They
also loaded up with weapons and enough ammunition for a small army.

They also took enough supplies to last them for the next week since they
did not plan to be gone for longer than that. We said our goodbye and they
were off on there journey.

So for the next week everyone on the farm watched the roads waiting for the
guys to return.

We had most of the crops planted and the garden was in the ground. It was
then that Kyle asked me if we could travel to some of the other farms and
collect more hay and feed from the farms. I didn't see any harm in that so
Kyle, Anthony, Chris and I loaded one of the trucks with fuel and attached
a trailer so we could make our run. Once we reached the first farm we
loaded what supplies were hidden. We checked out the house to se if we
missed anything in there then headed back out to the truck. Once loaded we
made our way to the next farm place. There we loaded hay onto the trailer
and some of the feed from the barn. Anthony decided after we were finished
loading to take a look inside the house. He wasn't inside for to long when
we heard him yelling. With our guns raise ready for action we went to
investigated. I was the first inside the door while Kyle stood outside
watching just in case. What I saw inside made me almost want to throw
up. Anthony was

bending down looking at a young boy who was naked and on the floor. Next
to the boy was body of an older man it looked like he had died from
starvation. Chris was checking out the rest of the house while I knelt down
next to Anthony and looked at the boy. It didn't look good the boy was on
his last legs even if we take him back with us the farm he would not have
make the trip. I could see tears in Anthony's eyes as he said encouraging
word to the boy, telling him he would be ok and that we would help him
anyway we could but as the boy raise his hand and touched Anthony's face he
took his last breath. Chris walked in just as the boy died and stood there
in silence. Anthony grabbed me and broke down in tears crying on my
shoulder. Even with all the death we have been through it was still hard to
watch this young boy die. With tears in my eyes I told Anthony everything
would be all right. Chris came over and we just held each other.

After we had buried the three bodies from the house, we searched the house
for other things we could use. (Oh sorry Chris found another body in one of
the bedrooms in the house.) Anthony found more movies and games we didn't
have and in the basement we found more ammunition mostly shotgun shells and
some other munitions for the smaller weapons. With them loaded we headed
back to the farm. We would have checked out more farm places but with what
we found in the last farm place I don't think we had the stomach to go to
another farm and find anything similar.

When we pulled up into the yard we noticed the two trucks and there
trailers backed up to the sheds and Dan and Tucker were unloading their
wears. We backed up to the barn so we could unload the supplies we had
brought back. I got out of my truck and walked over to talk with Dan and
Tucker while Anthony, Chris and Kyle unloaded. Billy and Anton met me while
I was talking.

Dan shook my hand as I welcomed him back. As we talked he told me he had a
long story to tell us when they finished unloading the supplies. I asked
him where Ben and the others were and he said they were in the house
sleeping because they had been traveling all night. Dan told me that he and
Tucker slept all the way back so they were rested and decided they would
start unloading the trailers.

I took a look at some of the stuff in the trailers. They had books, tools,
seeds, spices, clothing, canned goods, games and movies along with boxes
and boxes of guns and munitions. Now we could truly start a war. I left Dan
and Tucker to unload their trailers and I went back to help unload our
trailer. Once we got all the feed and hay into the barn we went to give Dan
and Tucker a hand. By the time we had finished it was late and the others
were still asleep so we made the decision to go to the bed for the night.

I woke to the smell of something I had not smelled in years, pancakes. I
didn't even take time to get dressed. I just walked down in my
underwear. There on the table sat a large plate of cakes waiting to be
dived into. Ben and Jon stood at the stove with huge smiles on their faces
while flipping cakes on the stove. I sat down grabbed a few cakes and put
them on my plate, and then I put a slab of butter on top of my cakes. I was
going to just eat them that way but Ben pulled out a bottle of maple syrup
and set it down on the table. I picked it up and looked at it. Ben said
with a big smile on his face.

"We found that and a few others in a house just outside of Boston and
thought everyone would like it."

"I think you are right." I said as I opened it and poured it on my stack of
cake the sat down and enjoyed the best pancakes I have tasted in years.

The taste brought back memories of my mother making pancakes when I was a
young child. I can't believe she has been dead now for 5 years now. They
also brought back memories of my father who was gone now for 2 year. Wow I
thought how food can bring back memories.

The others in the house began to make their way into the kitchen each
proclaiming the smell of the pancakes woke each and everyone of them. After
everyone had their fill we gathered in the living room. Bobby, Billy and
Anton came over along with Dan and Tucker and they joined us. Thus began
the tale of their trip.
